I just started it and I've lost 4 pounds this week!! It's hard though I feel more hungry now than when I was eating only 500-700 calories a day. :mmph: Go figure that one!! Anyhow I am getting my second fill on tuesday the 30th well see how that goes! anyhow glad your all doing well! thought I'd keep in touch karen aka kj

    My Life as a Bandster

I don't own a scale, and so the only times I have been weighed is when I have had my fills. Other than that I let my NSVs do the talking as to how much weight I've been losing. Of course the way I knew I was getting fatter and fatter was that I kept growing out of my clothes! Looking in a mirror was not nice, either.:think

Wow, congrats you guys!!! I too would like to TRY running... I'm such a weirdo, I'm too embarassed to even attempt it at the gym. A couple times when no one was around, I cranked up the speed and trotted for a few seconds. How immature am I? I have this feeling that if I had sunglasses, maybe I could do it outside. I guess because my 5 year old mind thinks that people can't see me with them on?! I will work on that though... maybe in the summer. Dan always wanted me to jog with him, and if I was doing it, I could drag him out with me, and get HIM started losing (more) weight. I have an NSV, which I just remembered today. On New Years Eve, we went to a party at these people from works house. Around... 3-ish, we called a cab, and the 4 of us that live in the same building 'group' left together. Outside there were people smoking, so we (the girls at least) gave them Happy New Year hug, and the last guy PICKED ME UP, and swung me around. (he's a HUGE guy) It was scary, and totally foreign to me. If you recall, I was excited a little while ago when I let Dan pick me up for the first time. I'm sure this guy would have NEVER attempted it even a few months ago... and if he had, I would have done my good old 'turn into a noodle' move, and slid out before he got to! Yay for strange men picking you up and swinging you!!

TAMI...A commercial, that's AWESOME. To think of all the people who he has banded that you stick out. You Rock! I have been having the same issues with having a fill. I felt like I shouid have gotton one at my last appointment, and I didn't. I have an appointment next Tuesday. I stepped on the scale this morning and I thought it was bad when I didn't lose a pound on Monday but today it says I've gained 4 pounds. YIKES! I have alot to do before Monday. I have been exercising almost every day, it is obvious it's bad food choices. I wonder if they have a band to put around my brain instead of my stomach. Well, I'm done whinning now, congratulations to everyone on their scale and NSV this week.

My new NSV... my goodness how lucky I have been. It was a wonderful morning today and I ran. I ran 4 km (I walk occassionally) and it felt good. That and my size 16 + jeans are my current thrill. I am trying to train for a 5 km... some times I am just amazed at how well this has worked!!! you guys are all great!! Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/207/179

Tami: I knew you were talking about a fill soon. I was too. I got mine Tuesday. I am not at all overfilled. I forgot to ask him exactly how much he added, but I do not have the wild cravings that I was having. Since the fill I've been doing much better. It hasn't kept me from eating anything though, that I've tried. So don't be afraid. Be sure to tell them of your fears. I did and I think that's why I am not overfilled. Good luck! I hope it helps take care of those crazy cravings! You're doing so well! Congratulations on your fantastic NSVs!

    November Bandsters!

I do weigh at home, but whenI am at the hospital I check my weight there. the norm is to deduct 2 lbs for clothing. So I am happier with the hospital scale which is accurate and the one used by new lapbanders and bypass patients. I wish I did not obsess with weighing every day! I had an NSV today...I went shopping for household stuff and I thought...why not try on some smaller sizes to see what fits? I was using 20/22 dresses, blouses sometimes 18/20 if lucky. I decided to be bold and see where a 14W would fit or not fit.... OMG it fit!!!!! :faint:

Bluehill....14/16 pants are truly a NSV. How in the world did you keep those 22/24's up????? Just got back from belly dancing....55 mins. workout. I'm starting to get congested so I know the weather is changing. Tomorrow evening the temp. is going to start to drop with a possibility of snow; and Friday with the wind chill it will be minus 5 on Long Island. Roberta

  12. Bluehill: DEFINITELY! That is awesome! NSV stands for "non-scale victory." For those of us that are scale-challenged, we have to get excited about all the other victories that come from working out and living with the band.

I have a new NSV to report. For some time now my size 16W jeans have been getting kinda baggy on me. These were jeans that I was unable to fit into at the time of my lapband operation last September even when I was lying down before trying to do up the zipper. Today I did a massive shopping freak out after months of wearing very baggy clothes. I bought a skirt and a pair of pants in size medium :Banane44: at a normo store and I bought two pairs of skinny jeans - size 16 - at the Gap. :woot: I did not have to lie down in order to do up any of these clothes!!! :faint: And I think that the kid at the Gap wanted me to buy the size 14 jeans (but I was afraid).

Oh good, Roberta, your belly is feeling a bit better, at least good enough to go to a belly dancing class! Have you moved into your new home, Julie? How exciting to own an apartment in Manhattan! (My East Village pied-a-terre is just a rental.) Love the colors you picked. Have a blast in Palm Springs, Betty! And best of luck in the Mah Jongg tournament! I finally broke down and bought some new exercise pants this afternoon, since the ones I've been wearing are waaay to big (22/24). I tried on a pair of 18/20, and they were still too big, so I settled on 14/16. I don't know what NSV means, but is this one? April 2006 Bandits January Challenge: TWENTY days of exercise completed

Good morning everyone, just a few rumblings in my tummy this morning so that's a good sign. My head is a bit stuffy and my chest hurts a little so I don't think it's the flu. I hope to get to my belly dancing class tonight if the runs have stopped. Congratulations Boo, what a great NSV!! Betty have a great time! Roberta

Kat, your brother actually sounds charming. People with differences make the world special. I have a question for you. Does your concern for him regarding not having a lot of friends stem from something he's projecting and you're picking up on (meaning loneliness) or is it more that having friends is what you (naturally) want for him? What I mean is, he may not be as aware that he has a void of friends as you are, which would be better than if he's truly lonely. In any event, I'm so glad he has you and your husband as both family and friends. Amourette, your life is so exciting! Even if you're in a bit of a boring spot, you're in Japan! I've always wanted to go...I must have missed the bit about the Beans. I'll go back and read the posts again...Ahh yes. I see it. Question for you -- is it a big deal to get a new uniform when you go down a size, or is it pretty easy? Do they charge you for that? Have a safe flight home. Boo, Happy NSV! Dancing bananas with top hats for you! :D :Banane48: :Banane48: Of course we love you and your lightweight self. I hope to be a lightweight one day too. Your run was inspirational. I hope to use that inspiration tonight as I prefer to run in the morning but couldn't today yet I've got to get one in so I'm ready for my race weekend after next. I don't know what I was thinking signing up for my first race in FEBRUARY at 8 a.m. I'm going to be so cold (Dawn is laughing at me right now). Betty, Sherwin Williams has a great "color visualizer" on their website where you can pick a room that looks most like yours and "paint" it online. Check it out here: http://www.sherwin-williams.com/do_it_yourself/paint_colors/paint_color_palette/ Then click "launch color visualizer" in the middle of the page. To see what my room will look like, choose living room #4, "cooled blue" for the wall colors, "extra white" for the trim, and "gypsy red" for the accent color (a lot of my furniture is red). I'll send you an actual pic once I've painted and moved in in a couple of weeks. Roberta, How are you feeling today? Any better? Bluehill, You're ROCKING the challenge this month. I will meet the challenge tonight and keep going too, just like you've done.

    Argon's Activities

I haven't been in Canuck Corners for awhile. (I've been brawling over in Rants and Raves.) Mandi, Congratulations on your big NSV!!! :clap2: I love the double jeans photo. You are looking fabulous and your ticker info is most impressive!! Thanks for posting the photos, eh.
  21. Amourette, this is gonna sound really lame, but what if you brought home dry Beans? I know it is more work to soak them and all, but you could bring home more at once. And Japan...(sigh!) Sounds lovely! Okay...so...this is my usual run. Gleefully run out the front door and up the street. Every mile I reward myself with a 30 second walk. This goes on for three to four miles. If I feel like running further, I do. If not, I turn for home. While running, I am enamored with the stars, the view of the city lights, the beautiful homes. Friends and neighbors wave and say hello. (I must have a wierd "Phoebe" kind of run, cause everyone recognizes me in the dark.) The only thing I dislike about the run is the fear of animals (raccoons, coyotes, rats, opossum??) jumping out at me! I scare them and they FREAK me out!! Well, anyway... Tonight was DIFFERENT! I did NOT want to run, but I HAVE to meet the challenge, so I figured I would just walk part of my time. After walking up the hill for one minute, I just HAD to run. There was no looking at the sky, no notice of anyone, just eyes to the pavement. Thoughts dominated the run. But guess what? I ran 2 1/4 miles non-stop, uphill! I MADE myself walk for 2 minutes and then ran again for a total of 5 miles in under an hour! So I had a serious NSV!!! :clap2: Thank you for accepting me in this group. Initially, I was afraid that I would be judged harshly for being a "lightweight." But everyone here has been supportive. We face the same issues and challenges. And now, we are ALL lightweights!!!! Woohoo! By the way, DAWN...You ARE a runner! And don't ever question that!

MimIn: Congratulations! We are the same weight and I'm buying some 14's, but depending on the brand some can be tight. I'm trying to think of a NSV.... Let's see... People are telling me that I look a lot younger. I guess that is a NSV!

MimIN: Fabulous story!! That is really impressive - both the run and being able to wear a 14 and a large from Jrs. Wow. It's those kinds of stories that give me courage and the strength to believe that even though I am having some problems, I can still reach my goal. Congrats to you for your really good NSVs.! I did finally get a fill today. Lots of dietician talk about how to get myself out of this slump and lots of talk from the doc about what other people have done that was helpful. I am lucky to have such a support team. I just hope I can get back with the program!

Has anyone had any NSV's the last week? I had a few.... I flew to Atlanta last week and found I actually fit in a plane seat with room to spare and I can pull the seatbelt tight across my lap without extending it as far as it will go and see it rather than it hide under my belly! My lane bryant size 14 dress pants and jeans are hanging off my arse and while in atlanta I decided to go shopping (lane bryant 14 is a 'normal' size 16). I bought size 14 dress pants and a pair of levi's in the misses section and a couple large shirts from the juniors of macy's I hven't done that since I was probably 12. Last night my dog took off like a rocket and I ran full sprint after him clear across the community by the time I caught him I was several blocks from home and was hardly winded. Curious how far I had gone I later took the car out to measure and it was 1.1 miles (my dog sucks!). I have never been able to run more than 1/4 mile without feeling the onset of death. It's the little things that make it all worth it!
  25. re: "If the inches are disappearing then where are they going?" Another question may well be 'where did those inches COME from?' Fat is less dense and occupies more space than muscle tissue. While my body weight has not changed much over the past 8 months, my pant size has decreased and my belt size has decreased. My body shape is headed toward that of an actual human rather than a semi-mobile poof pillow. Those are 'NSV' Non scale Victories.....recognition and celebration of NSVs are an important part of postBand life. Semi-mobile poof pillow--Oh Jack I just love the way you phrase things! You must be quite adorable in person. I think I have finally stopped losing the weight without a fill...it is a bit discouraging, but I have had people tell me I have lost more weight, so I uess I have lost inches...I did not measure myself at the beginning...wish i had so I could see more of my NSV'S! Another NSV lately is how clothes are fitting...loser! I will be getting a fill mid February it is time!
