    Picking Goal??

My "final" goal weight changed several times during this process, and I suspect it may change again. At first, my doctor's goal was to "just get you back under 200." That was fine by me, even though it was still very heavy for my height (5'2). Then I thought maybe 179, because that was 1/2 of my starting weight. Then I thought maybe 165 because that's 10 lbs less than I'd ever weighed as an adult and I knew I'd be a size 12 at that weight and that was fine with me. Now, I'm going for 136 because I got under 165 with just the regular bandster effort and am still losing (knock on wood). 136 is the 24.9 BMI cutoff for my height, i.e. "normal." I plan on having a thigh lift, so I suspect I'll lose another 8-10 with that. I'm sticking with 136 as my official goal, but if I wind up in the 120s, I won't be shocked.

2 questions for those closer to goal

I am down to the last 20 myself . . . and I am still consistently losing. It is getting harder however and I find I have to "tweak" things regularly. I will stay on a particular "plan" for a week and if I see that my weight is moving in the right direction, I stay the course. When I start to stall out or don't see movement, I make changes to exercise, calorie intake, Protein intake, food choices, etc to change things up and hopefully make them move again. It seems like keeping my body "guessing" seems to be the best way to peel off the pounds at this point. I also do not keep my calorie intake the same every day to avoid a rut. I have very low calorie days (800-950) mixed with higher calorie days (but never above 1250 calories). I usually do two low, then one high but it is not always the same. At six months out, I have found that I stall at any calorie level if it is always the same. I also can stall if I eat the same foods every day (which is in my nature to do). This works for me, but of course our bodies are all different. I suffered through many plateaus in the beginning, and once I learned how to break them, I turned plateau busting into part of my regular routine . . . and it is working beautifully for now . . . who knows if it will still work the last 5-10 pounds to goal . . . or if it will work when I bypass my original goal and go for the smoking hot goal of 125???

    Running low on energy

Dont know how old your are, but unfortunately sleep patterns do change with age, especially with women. Sometimes its hormones , etc. I used to sleep like a baby every single night, then while expecting 26 years ago, ( I was 30) started waking up once a night. I could handle that, but then it got way worse ! Asleep at 10 pm, then every single night, wide awake at around 3:30 am. I'd have cocoa and crackers to help me maybe go back to sleep. Maybe. I tried everything. Now , I take Trazadone before bed, and combined with my ADD meds, sleep for 7 - 8 hrs straight. Zzzzzzzzzz

    Running low on energy

I used to consider myself a night owl, going to bed around 1 or 2 am and sleeping for maybe 4.5 hours. But now, I CANNOT wait to get to bed by 10:30, and that's stretching it. I can barely keep my eyes open! I am almost 4 years out with a lap band and am at goal. I take a Multivitamin and B12 daily (mostly) but probably don't get enough Protein. Anyone else dragging?

Purging my closet again - anxiety

I got rid of over 10 trash bags full of clothes....I realized I dressed like a slob to hide my weight and bought and wore clothes that were big, bulky and colorless! I went to the thrift store found tons of stuff even brand new and bought it...at one store I got three pairs of pants and 4 shirts and paid $22.50! So clean out that closet! Can't wait to purge these clothes too!
  6. So I'm just back from my psych eval & I'm so interested in knowing WHY they needed me to draw a clock & show the time 11:10 on it? Also had to draw a 3-D box & connect the numbers 1-2-3, etc, to the letters A-B-C. Really???? How is this going to help my weight loss or prove if I'm ready? I had to fill out a long questionnaire too which seemed to have the same questions over & over, just worded differently. I don't know, there must actually be a logical reason for this but I can't figure it out for the life of me. Also, the psych rattled off a bunch of letters & each time I heard the letter "A," I had to knock on the table. What your psych eval like this?
  7. I'm 7 months out and the past 10 pounds has taken about 2 months to get rid of! I'm 202.9 this morning and can't get to the 100 mark. I'm 42 and haven't seen the 100's since I was about 17. I don't think I eat alot but I do eat junk. Not that I crave it, its just easier to grab something in a package for breakfast. I have knee surgery yesterday which puts me on my butt for about 3 weeks. Does anyone have any tips for those of us that are closer to our goal and the weightloss has slowed down? I'm happy its still going down, but its like waiting for water to boil.
  8. I've got much farther to go, BMI about 55. I have lost 19lbs on the supervised diet so far. My insurance BCBS MN covers almost everything, but requires 6 mo supervised diet. It seems a bit longer than is really needed. But it has given me time to learn, adjust and realize that the Chinese Buffet is not ever a good choice, and something I CAN live without long-term. I have had to go through Pysch, Gastro, sleep, and PCP clearance, and finally Cardiac. It has not been too bad, but you really have to want it. I have seen more Drs in the past 5 months then in the previous 10 years.

    October Buddies wanted

Charlottesville, VA here! Last PCP appointment on 10/1 then everything will be submitted to insurance for final approval! Nervous, anxious, excited, all of this waiting has been agony! I have been mentally ready for this since about April! Seems like surgery will never get here!! Probably another 6 weeks or so until insurance approval and actual surgery date...............

I know what you mean about losing 100# and trying to imagine what that would be like. I am a LOT farther out than you considering my band time as well as my sleeve time and I've lost 132#. I never thought this day would come. During weight loss it is exciting each time the scale goes down, but after you get to goal and have time to think about it it's different. You sit back and think, "WOW! I lost a person!" Hind sight is the eye opener with WLS, that is when you figure out all the stuff you learned while you were losing it but didn't realize you knew it. If I knew then, what I know now... things would have been easier in some ways and harder in some ways. I have a box of Velveeta cheese in my cupboard. One day after I lost about 20# I was at the store and I realized... I've lost **10** of those! That's a lot of Velveeta cheese. Today when I need to get back on track I look at that old, nasty, expired, gross cheese and realize.... I have lost 66 of those. Melt that and glue it to your hips! That's a lotta lotta lotta cheese. That box is probably freeze dried by now but I do not care. I will never throw it away. That was what kept me realizing just how much I was losing and today it's my icon. ;o) In my wildest dreams I never thought I would reach a point where I had over 100# to lose. When I finally looked at myself and realized I was pretty darn fat and it was time to do something about it I just got depressed and ate more. Today I look back and I think it was all worth it. I wouldn't want to regain but I'm glad I have this journey. I have learned more about myself than I ever would otherwise. I have skills and knowledge that I wouldn't have if I hadn't have lost all that weight. I think there is something about being a 100# plus - person. Meaning, those of us who have over 100# to lose. It's just different, the mindset, what we learn, what we experience. Hard to explain but it's different emotionally and physically. I'm not saying it's better or worse, it's different. I'm glad I got fat because I wouldn't have had the journey. Someday I will be the wise old lady down the street and all the little children are going to want to come to my house and hear my stories. I already have a ton of them! But it's a journey like this that will create that little old lady I'll become someday. Lisa, I see you as being exactly the same. I think you will be the cool old lady down the street that kids will love.

Same here. I am SO glad we are all having the same issues so I know it's normal. I only lost four pounds pre op and 19 lbs post op. gained a few ounces since I've started consuming other foods. I'm keeping up with everything I put in my mouth on my fitness pal. It is kinda discouraging because we are so scared to fail. I haven't lost anything since my first week of surgery although I am seeing a loss of inches. We sound JUST alike. My husband also tells me to chill it's only been a few weeks and I stay under 800 cals a day.
  13. yes very true. I have been known not to have much patience.. lol I feel like since I waited so long, been through so many struggles to get the surgery, I just want a break! lol... But I have made it thus far and will continue to do what I am suppose to and what I chose to do so I can be healthy. And I agree If I or my dr thought any of the other surgeries were right for me, I would of had the other. I'm only 10 days out and I should be resting still. This to shall pass Thanks for the wise words..
  14. Melissa thank you so much for your post. I was secretly feeling scared, discouraged, because I to am 10 days post op. Surgery was June 6th and I did have some restriction right after surgery but it was causing me severe pain when I tried to sleep. Tightness and back pain. I initially thought it was gas. But after my follow-up post op appointment my dr took the pre fluid out 3cc's I immediately felt relief. But with that removal I feel like I have no restriction. I go for my first fill July 6th. I hope it starts to work. And I'm also afraid that tightness will return. I lost 23 lbs during the pre opt liquid diet n I don't want to regain. I've been trying to be careful but... I'm just hoping this works.

    Setting your goal weight

Weight goal charts are made up by insurance companies. MD's use a simple formula for woman which is 100 pounds for 5 feet and 5-8 pounds per inch over 5' depending on frame. I put 135 as a goal just for the heck of it. I take it 10 pounds at a time and figure when I look in the mirror and like what I see, THAT will be my goal weight.

    Setting your goal weight

I set my first goal (with the band at 165) Just under the bmi of 25 cause of my frame I hide weight well and would have a lot of weight due to extra skin......however as I approached that number I decided I wanted to go to 150. When all was said in done I hung out most of the time (with the band) at 153 - 160. Which is a little below the BMI of 25 for my 68 1/2 inch frame. I was afraid to get much lower Cause I was a size 8-10 on the bottom and a small on top and my breasts were gone!
  18. Surgery was Wednesday and it went well. But I am struggling with nausea and vomiting. I have only been able to keep down a few ounces of liquid a day. I finally got my Dr office to call me in some phenergan but I vomited about 10 minutes after I took it. The Medical Assistant tells my I don't need phenergan just take Reglan, Symax, and Prilosec and I will be fine. I am ready to strangle her. It defeats the purpose of taking these meds if I just vomit shortly after taking them. I am hoping today will be better. I definitely don't want to end up back in the hospital with dehydration. Any tips would be greatly appreciated since my Dr's office is not very helpful. __________________ Originally posted at www.lapbandtalk.com

    Surgery Tomorrow!!

Hey Panda, I am a runner. I have been running for the last 17 years of my life. So a 4mile walk is nothing for me. One would think with all of the running that I do, I wouldn't need this surgery -- but I did. My starting weight was 225lbs, and I am down to 214 in a matter of days. (I haven't been able to get the weight off in YEARS!) I am sooo excited for my journey to see where I will end. My goal is around 130-135. Per my doc, I can walk~walk~walk~as much as possible. The more walking -- the less gas I will have. I figure, by 3 weeks I will be back to running again (as long as there is no pain). I can do up to 10 lbs of weights. I am restricted from elipitcal machines, or any machine that could pull the stiches loose for 1 month. I feel great! Unfortunately, I have sooo many chores, etc to do around my house -- so when I got back home, I didn't stop moving. Woke up extremely tired today to come back to work. Ohh about that Protein, I am only 5\6 days out. I am just trying to get my liquids in at this time. My body isn't accepting the protein just yet. I have been drinking "G" (Gatorade) - Recovery (it has protein in it). I also have protein shots. When I take the shots (and this is TMI people - turn your heads.lol); it gives me the runs. So, until I go on thick protein, I will stay away from the shots for now. Fluids are going down like a champ. It hurt at first, but ever day is better and better. Not so much pain. Panda, keep me posted on your results and how you're doing. I would love to share as we move forward. Take Care Sleeve2B

    Show some skin?

Becky, I'm 44 as of July of this year. I think as long as you do some sort of walking or exercise most days, you wont have a big problem. I walked mostly and did some zumba, elyptical, etc. I was not consistent with it but for the most part, I exercised about three days a week or so. This summer I didnt do anything really. It was hot and I just wasnt motivated. I did start jogging/walking in early october and finished my first 5k in 36:10! I was very pleased with myself for that. I am only three weeks out from my plastics so I cant exercise for a few more weeks but I plan to train for another 5k or maybe even a half marathon. I enjoyed it, if you can believe that. Just follow the rules the best you can and get some exercise in. You are young. Believe in yourself!

    Question to you all

My surgery is scheduled for 12/28 with Dr. Alvarez and I have also given my deposit and every week I change my mind. I read all the success stories in the forum and the one time I hear of a complication I am ready to back out. I have been battling weightloss for over 10 yrs and I am ready to get my life back, but you are not alone in your feelings. Evaluate your pros and cons then move forward, I feel very confident in the surgeon I selected.

    New and nervous

Melissa, girlfriend, your surgeon is right! I just made it to 'onederland' (slang for going under 200 lbs.) the past month. My surgery was Oct 11th-started pre-op diet Aug 11 weighing 278. Today, almost 5 months post-op and I weigh 197! I haven't weighed under 200 lbs in 20 years-since b4 my 2 daughters were born and they are 18&19! I never thought I'ld see the day-like you I've dieted only to stall and regain. I look and feel better than I have in many years. Is it easy? He-- no! I stll have hard days, but with my diabetes reversed and sleep apnea gone, I now have the energy and drive to live my life to the fullest. Not just being worried about having a full tummy. Good luck-we're here for you!

    quitting smoking

Annie I know just what your going through I was told I had to be smoke free for 3 months before surgery my last one was 01-3-13 I took chantix for 3 weeks and it really helped me get over that initial hump but now that I'm on low carb diet the last 10 days I've been having that nagging craving. I've found that electronic cigarettes help me. My surgeon allows you to use them so you may want to ask and try those it took a few brands until I found one I liked.
  24. You aren't alone in this. I am sure most people succumb to old habits at some point. The goal is to not give into that stuff but every so often. You just will not be successful if you can't get that under control. I eat out once every week or so, but choose places that will allow me to have options at least (a salad or protein and veg). You can find okay options at most places... At KFC, for example, a grilled chicken breast, and 2 green bean sides contains 260 calories, 7g of fat, 8g of carbs, and 40g of protein. Not so bad unless you are watching your sodium (1230mg). Everything else Is loaded with carbs, salt, sugar or fat. At Taco Bell, there is a power menu bowl with chicken that will pack in 500 calories, 20g of fat, 53g of carbs, and 28g of protein. It is 12 ounces, so if you eat half, you are clocking 250 calories, 10g of fat, 27g of carbs, and 14g of protein. Everything else is blah. I used to love KFC and Taco Bell, but wouldn't be caught dead in either of their drive-thrus or dining rooms. There is just too much temptation there for me. I prefer sit down restaurants over fast food, although I have been known to devour a small Wendy's chili with cheese and onions (only once or twice over the last 4 months, I swear). Learn to forgive yourself though, and move on when you mess up. Letting it linger is not going to help you. Formulate a plan if you are going out. Look at the menus before hand to see what on their menu is healthy, and have that. Remember, success means doing the right things 90% of the time. I doubt that having a taco or some fried chicken once every 10 days is going to explode your diet, especially if the rest of your eating is on point, but it is a slippery slope nonetheless. Good luck.
