    My worst night since surgery

Larry, I am feeling a lot better. My whole problem was being caused by the Unjury protein powder I was using. I have been off that stuff for 24 hours now and I barely feel the band now. My gas problems have all but gone away. I am not sorry I have had the band done, I have lost 25lbs on my first week. I know that this much of a loss is not normal, but it has happened. Larry please feel free to follow my blog and you will be able to see how it goes for me another man. I have my first surgical follow up tomorrow and I will let eveyone know how it goes. I know how you feel, I had the same feeling right up to my surgery day. But to answer your question; yes I am gald I have gotten my band. You see I realize my weight was killing me very slowly, and I had to do something. Biker
  2. You may want to see a doctor to make sure the shortness of breath is related to weight verses something related to your heart or lungs. But definitely back to the basics should help and it sounds like the biggest issue would be the grazing. Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app

    ????????Graze

OK, so at a month you're still learning to live with your new stomach, it's going to take some time but I'd still recommend tracking your calories. I tracked calories for the first 2-3 months, although I've been losing weight steadily, I still track once in a while to see what my nutritional distribution is. If you're having confidence issues, definitely take advantage of your support system, now is the time to fix the things that are a problem. Thank you???? yes this is all new and I just have to take it one day at a time.
  4. I am sure this has been talked about at one time or another but, here goes.... Does anyone know if FEPBCBS covers the removal of skin after surgery? If so talk to me about the process and what is needed.

I completely understand how the two of you feel. I myself am in the same boat, but I also realize that it is also one of the reasons I needed the band in the first place. I was banded in April and I am fully aware that I have a long battle ahead of me due to the amount of weight I have to lose and my own relationship with food. I also know this is something I can overcome. I did not get this way overnight and I can't fix it with the band...however it is a great tool Good Luck! Amy

Had 2 week post-op today and....

Congrats MistyDTX! Can't wait until I get to experience that type of weight loss. Keep up the great work!

    Presurgery weight gain

@@Timmy2shirts, as others have said it depends on your insurance. I did not have specified weight to lose. I lost about 10lbs from my 1st weigh in and the insurance approved. Good luck!
  8. My last fill was the end of May and I am scheduled for another this Thursday. While I am able to eat a good bit at times there are times when I can't. It doesn't seem like there is any rhyme or reason to it. While I was on vacation I got stuck so bad on tuna fish (Who would have thought?) and actually ended up throwing up. I notice I don't eat as much as I used to but I have been stuck at the same weight for 6 weeks. Should I get a fill?
  9. I ate SO much today. TOO much. I kept eating after I was full. I snacked when I wasn't hungry. I ate more at lunch then I usually do. I'm stressed (work) and sad (sudden death of a family friend yesterday) and bored (training). I know these emotions are what caused this episode of overeating. I knew when I was eating that it was emotional. But I couldn't stop. And now I'm miserable. My stomach hurts. And I'm worried that I've stretched my stomach out and I'm going to gain weight back. Only 6 weeks after surgery, and I've already messed up! I feel guilty. (Clearly I have food issues. LOL!) I HATE food. And I HATE how much I love food.

No problem. You might be surprised. After the first couple of weeks my frame of mind was mostly positive with a bit of down moments. When the weight starts to come off it is hard not to feel good. So worth it for both of you. Good luck

Myu Bonita!!! i am 10 post Op and not feeling so well. I have lost 8lbs and i am starving!!! i just hope a year from now i am close to my goal weight of 180. Love seeing pics of women who beat Obesity!!! GREAT JOB!!!!

    No Desire To Eat

Continuing to only get 550 calories a day may cause your body to go into starvation mode and you may not lose at all. You should try to keep that intake closer to 900 a day if you can? Of course, there are some who may lose weight this way but I don't see how you could exercise efficiently with so little energy input? tmf
  13. Hi everyone. I'm 5'1" weight of 215 by BMI is 40. I'm so nervous about excess skin after my surgery. Has anyone ever not had excess skin after surgery? I head low BMIers could possibly not have excess skin depending on how much you loose. Thanks in advance for your help!
  14. Nope, didn't lose any weight during the 6 months. I was 212.5 when I weighed in on the 1st class and went up to 217.5 then on my last class I got back down to 212.5. According to my surgeon's office though it wasn't a requirement for me to lose during the 6 months just that it probably wasn't good for me to gain.

    A little confused

Great reply. And congratulations on your inches lost. And especially your sugar coming down. That's awesome. See alot of people forget that it's not all about the weight-loss. It's about everything else also.

    SCALE by Shel Sliverstein

I like this guys sense of humor. Scale If I could only see the scale, I'm sure that it would state That I've lost ounces. . . maybe pounds Or even tons of weight. "You'd better eat some pancakes- You're skinny as a rail." I'm sure that's waht the scale would say . . If I could see the scale. by Shel Silverstein the book is Falling Up

    Approved!

One of the times I called Tricare I got someone who understood what I was saying, but said she didn't really have an answer for me. The only question I have is how they look at your weight compared to the scale. If the scale says 118-132, and you weigh 225 is that good for the 100 lb over requirement OR would you have to be over 232? That was my only question all 4 times I have called and no one has answered it. I have a few comorbids(arthritis (knees, ankles, hips), high blood pressure, borderline diabetic), that isn't my problem. My problem is the weight, I lost several pounds when my husband was in Iraq and am still in the process of packing it back on since he came home, so I am wondering if I should go back down and reweigh. I think I have put on another few pounds since then. Wonder if they will take my word for it? Doubt it, just thinking out loud. :smile2:

    BMI charts are crap...

sooo... i recently went to the doctors and they did this test on me... they put a sticky bandage on my arm and my foot and found out how much water was in my body, how much of my weight is fat and how much is muscle and gave me a weight that i should be at according to my body structure and muscle mass... and when the reading came out, it said that according to my specific body, my healthy weight would be 196 pounds. Im a pretty tall girl, and my entire family is naturally a little big boned.. so it made me think about those charts where u find out how much "your supposed to weigh" according to your height... and how wrong they were... it made me feel pretty good because now i dont feel like i need to fit into this chart , which i thought would be too skinny for me anyways... just letting you guys all know because if any of you were feeling like me.. ask your doctor to do a body composition test.. is what i think its called... its more personal and accurate for YOUR body
  19. Well, I had my consultation with the surgeon last week. He's very kind and his staff is also good. Unfortunately, I seem NOT to be fat enough for surgery. The height my PCP and surgeon took are a solid inch apart. DAMMIT. I should have asked the surgeon to do my height again - and I will when I go back. (if I go back, that is...) He told me that it would be unethical of him to do the surgery on me with a BMI below 40. (I think I came in at 38.6.) Without a comorbid condition, I am on my own unless I gain some weight. That said, he did think that I should see the pulmonologist because he thought I might have sleep apnea based on a few answers on the questionnaire. Happily, there was an appointment about 30 minutes later since the pulm had a cancellation. I saw the pulm (also very nice and took time with me) and he thinks that there is a 75% chance that I have sleep apnea. Um. Yay me? I have been scheduled for a sleep study. I do not sleep with any humans in my bed (just cats), so I don't know if I do snore or gasp for air. Obviously, I am conflicted and quite disappointed. Without a positive diagnosis of sleep apnea, I am out on my butt. If I do have it, then I could probably qualify under my insurance. (Though my credit scores are all over 800, I simply cannot afford private pay.) Oh, and it seems that my insurance is really good (the office lady said so) and covers everything but the nutritionist. I learned so very much on this site and through others' experiences and now it may all be for naught. It is just so disappointing. Of course, I ate a whole box of donuts when I got back from my consult. :scared2: I just had to vent a little since I do not have anyone I can tell about this.
  20. Hello everybody, I just can't believe it I am almost there! I received the most awaited phone call in the last 2 weeks. They told me I was approved and scheduled for surgery on May 27. I just want to give some words of encouragement, I am a low BMI (35.7) with PCOS, Infertility, Hypothyroidism, sleep Apnea and begining stages of Diabetes II. So I have the comorbidities, but still low BMI, so there is hope out there. Insurance companies seem to be approving faster now, I think because they see that with the lap band is one time investment in your health and form that point you will be healthy....Treatment of the Diabetes is very expensive and infertility just to mention, so they are thinking twice before they reject someone. Please keep trying, it took me 7 months from the begining of this journal, and at some point I was just tired of appoinmt. supervised diets, etc.etc everything without knowing if I was gonna get apporved or not... But I was persistent, with wishful thinking and hoping for the best. I will keep my journal posted, perhaps I will create a blog to keep everybody uptodate in this new road. good energy to everybody Good Luck Vicky Barberena Austin, TX Surgery 5/27/08 Current weight 202 Goal 135
  21. Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have 3 children and 3 grandchildren. I wish I had found you when I started my procedure. I had lap band surgery on January 21, 2009. I lost 44lbs., but I have gained 6lbs back this last month. I have only had 2 fills which consist of 2cc. My doctor is Dr. Steven Clark at the St. Francis Weight Loss in Indianapolis, IN South Campus. I don't work and I'm on disability. When I lost my job 2 years ago, I tried to get another job, but when you go to interviews with a cane nobody wants to hire you. I really need someone to talk too. Like at first I lost 44 lbs. Than I got this sweet taste and all I wanted was something sweet, like pop tarts and chocolate candy. I need someone to talk too when I want food so I don't eat. It is mostly when I have nothing to do. If I can keep busy I'm fine. So if someone out there can help please do. Thanks:blush: grandmawof3
  22. Hello all, Since I'm thinking of moving to Florida, and since more then likely, if I do I'll be teaching, I started checking out BCBS of Florida. I read the federal employees policy and weight loss surgery is covered, but what about after care? I had my surgery done here in Portugal and I want to know if they will cover fills, and/or any complications I might have even though the surgery wasn't done there. Any one had any experience with this?

    Honeymoon's Over...Help?

Congratulations on your success so far! That is awesome! I am 2 weeks away from being 1 year post-op. I would say that around 9 months post op I went through a little of what you are. I had pretty much reached my goal weight and began to let things slip.....snacking more, adding more empty carbs, etc. For me I had to continuing logging things religiously in myfitnesspal.com, but I had to become a "re-born" sleever. By that I mean, I went back to basics. I did a 3-day reset, going back to the pre-op liquid diet for 3 days. Then from there I stuck to my numbers as much as humanly possible (70g Protein, 35g carbs, 100 oz water). When I do this, I lose..... even if it's just .2 of a pound, I lose. It's not fun, but the longer you go without the sugar and empty carbs, the less you crave it and better you feel. Also, are you exercising? I run, and that has completely changed me as a person. Also, it gives me a goal to focus on that is not scale-related. And in all honesty, it is probably what kept me from gaining any weight back during that period of a few weeks when I was really slipping. Good luck! You can do this!

    Ugh.

Was it submitted as a prescribed medical treatment e.g. BMI > 40, diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension, etc)? or as a weight-loss procedure? If you're not sure, ask your surgeon's office staff to ensure you're being recommended for surgery as a medical treatment/procedure (assuming you're eligible based on health risks and factors). If necessary, ask your surgeon to write and submit an appeal letter to the insurance with additional supporting information (related health issues, your willingness to undergo nutritional counseling, etc). You definitely have appeal options - don't take this first 'no' as a final answer. Good luck!

    Ugh.

I'm so sorry to hear this. What insurance company do you use, if I may ask? If I were you, I would take out a loan. I have several health issues and my weight is the only thing making me unhappy. Money is definitely an issue with me, but there is no price on happiness and good health. I'm only telling you what I would do; not what you should do. I don't know what your full story is.
