Nutritionist was NO help at all
Sosewsue61 replied to HealthyLifeStyle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Cook with fat- coconut oil, avocado oil. Try adding fatter meat choices, starchy vegetables like parsnips, winter squash, potatoes, etc. Can you tolerate nuts - cashews will help with constipation and are high in fat. Full fat mayo. I agree that your NUT is not listening. I also agree to get her advice in an email, just email her and ask for clarification because she told you so much and you can't recall all of her recommendations regarding the dairy since you are lactose intolerant and need to know how to end the weight loss phase Then reiterate this to the office manger. Also do not be too concerned about going below goal because there can be a 10-15 pound bounce especially in year three. -
I was banded in 2003. I went in for an adjustment in 2016 but unfortunately my esophagus had become dilated and it had to be removed. If it wasn't for that the plan was to give me a fill. There was no reason the Dr. believed that I couldn't continue to lose weight. My highest weight was 311 I lost 150 and decided to settle at 160-175. When I went in for a fill I was at 190.

I’m not quite 6 weeks out and have lost a little over 20 since surgery day (about 27 total), so I still think you’re right on track! I’ve found this the easiest weight loss in my lifetime of dieting. I know it will slow way down soon, but I’m happy to have my new tool!

1) Hair loss: my hair stated growing back around 6-7 months (which was co-incidentally at around the end of my weight loss phase...not sure if this was related). I'm 2.5+ years out now, and its all back and the pretty much the same length as all my regular-shoulder length hair. I also like to think it's actually thicker, fuller than pre-op, but that may just be wishful thinking. I did not take/do anything out of the ordinary to address it (other than chop it all off to a pixie cut around 3 months post-op 2) Vitamin Continuation: I stopped taking my vitamins around the 1 year mark. I've had 3 labs done since then and they have all come back satisfactorily (p.s. I'm was sleeved) 3) Vitamin Regimen: When I was taking them, I was doing: Wake up: Pre-natal multi + calcium + Vit D Mid afternoon: calcium + Vit D Late evening: calcium + Vit D I was on B12 just for the 1st month post op, but was taken off it because apparently I overproduce it already. 4) Meal Spacing of same size: In the first year, I didn't really have regular "meals" I just ate snack-sized "meals" a few times a day...probably 3-4 hours in between at minimum...and not really at any set time. Now I can eat alot more at one sitting (maybe 1 to 1.5 cups in volume in one sitting) and depending on what it is, this will keep me satisfied for 3-4 hours again....depending on what it is. Dense protein keeps me fuller longer vs salads. Good Luck! ❤️ p.s. im female, 49yrs, 5’2”, 115lbs

How much more are you planning to lose??
ms.sss replied to blackcatsandbaddecisions's topic in Rants & Raves
It is annoying but, It does end eventually. Once everyone is used to your new normal it's just no big deal anymore. During weight loss phase and the months immediately afterwards, I got into the routine of saying thanks, or "that's a good point, I'll have to think about it" and then quickly pivoting the conversation about them. People generally love to talk about themselves...give them a nudge and they will quickly lose interest in your affairs. -
Insurance Through Postop

8 months- checking in today at 192.8 lbs, for total weight lost of 146.2 lbs. I have 27.8 lbs left to go to get to goal. My weight loss is slowing down but it’s still going. I know that as I get closer to a regular body weight the weight loss is going to get slower and more difficult but I do miss the days of regular 3-5 lb drops every week. July 5 represented one year of concerted weight loss effort for me. On that day in 2020 I started a low carb low calorie diet that was supposed to last for two weeks- I needed to drop weight for my first in person weigh in at the Bariatric clinic and I was terrified I was going to be disqualified due to gaining weight during my 6 month program. I squeaked under the line, and when I got home I just decided to keep it up a little longer to help with weight loss prior to surgery. I ended up keeping it up a whole year! So I have two anniversaries in my head, July 5 and November 10, diet date and surgery date. I’ve been doing good on exercise, and I’m trying to focus better on making sure I keep my diet in check. I’ve gotten lackadaisical about tracking food and I need to work on that because I can’t rely on portion control forever. I also need to focus more on getting sleep- I know that impacts weight loss and I’m terrible about staying up late after the kids are asleep to read books. I remember some celebrity had a big awards show and said something like “I want to thank myself, for all the hard work I put in, for the sacrifices I made, etc” and everyone laughing. But you know what, I would like to thank myself. For starting a diet 12 months ago and sticking with it though the hard parts. For getting a surgery that terrified me but still jumping through all the hoops and getting it done. For drinking tomato soup for thanksgiving and giving up the candy and snack food that got me to 339 lbs. 😀 If anyone is reading this and has 150+ lbs to lose, it’s possible. It’s possible with a sleeve, or a bypass, or whatever surgery you get. Surgery doesn’t do the work for you, but it helps so much. Next month I will be in the 180s and getting closer to a normal BMI. I’m committing this month to tracking each day, exercising 3-5 times a week, and going to bed earlier. August here we come! -
My bmi is 31.6 Curious to know roughly how much weight other low start BMI’s have lost in the first couple of months after surgery

Help! What needs to be accomplished in 6 month pre-op plan?
ColieCallwell replied to timmytommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in the same boat as you. My BMI is 35.5 with a comorbidity (sleep apnea). I met with my surgeon last week. My insurance requires about 4 months of classes, etc. My surgeon told me not to lose any weight during that time or I could un-qualify myself. She told me not to go and lose 10 lbs on her during this time. I'm considering self pay just so I don't have to worry about it AND not lose weight for the next 4 months. I'm ready to get my life back. Of course since I'm not supposed to lose weight, I've lost 3 lbs. [emoji52] Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
February 2021 bypassers?
MissSmartyPants replied to TreeTrunks's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey guys! Checking in to say that if you've slid back into bad habits its never too late to turn it around! To be honest I deviated from the eating plan early on, and never really worked out, but ever since I've become a more mindful eater and have prioritized working out I feel like this whole journey is possible again. I want to reach my goal weight by February of next year so I really want to utilize this period of easy/more rapid weightloss to reach that goal and be a candidate for plastics. Unfortunately, I started this process for completely vain and superficial reasons. While those reasons are still driving me to reach my goals I'm also motivated to see what my body can do. Things I'll be trying in the near future: Skateboarding Bike riding Swimming Surfing Muay Thai Boxing A handstand A cartwheel A split Powerlifting Long distance running I'll be checking in more frequently too! What was your tipping point?
Pilot my best self replied to 3tallwomen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have thought about all the milestones (negative) that I hit before finally turning to surgery. These were NOT tipping points for me: -needing seat belt extender on flight -struggling to tie my sneakers -Winded walking to my office or up the stairs -prediabetes diagnosis And so many years of dieting struggles The tipping point was -getting an A1C test of 6.9 and a Diabetes diagnosis. - getting prescribed diabetes, cholesterol, and blood pressure medications. -And Not being able to go on bike rides with my daughter I felt so hopeless until I finally followed my cardiologists suggestion to attend an informational session for bariatric surgery. After another 4 months of considering all the risks (real and perceived) with taking this step, I could not imagine any other way that I would be able to lose the amount of weight that I needed to get healthy again. Just over 3 months later and 54 lbs down, I am only sorry I was so resistant to the idea of surgery to help lose weight. I feel more than hopeful again. I have a long way still to go, but it feels doable now. And I already feel so much success to be able to move more comfortably and no longer need the medication prescribed just 8 months ago! And I am getting my bike tuned so I can go biking with my daughter on the nearby bike path that I have avoided riding for over 5 years!! -
Help! What needs to be accomplished in 6 month pre-op plan?
timmytommy posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I currently have a BMI of 36.5 with comorbidities. I have to follow the 6 month pre-op diet as part of the bariatric program. My question is: what if I lose too much weight during this phase and fall below 35 BMI? Will this exclude me from surgery? I know I can be successful at a 6 month diet, but past experience has proven that I will gain that weight back. Any feedback is welcome! -
Looking for a WLS veteran buddy in Northern California
Tierra T Tij posted a topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Hi, I just wanted to find someone who has had gastric bypass and has had the weight off for a long time, and is doing well on their journey. I need some inspiration and help to keep me going. I need preferably a walking buddy and a person who had gastric bypass for a long time to go grocery shopping. If anyone is interested please let me know. I don't have much support but myself and the pandemic has made it hard for me to cope and I don't want to go back to being big again. -

Six weeks out and scared??
STLoser replied to brooketw's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is SO true. I had my 1 year follow up with my surgeon the other day and he was saying I've done a great job, and I said it's because now when I make an effort to lose weight I feel like my body isn't fighting against me. It's amazing! My weight loss has slowed down quite a bit, but it's still going down. As long as you keep following the plan you will keep losing so don't worry! I think you're right on here. When I let my daily protein slip, I stop losing, which is probably best. Losing weight when not eating enough protein means losing muscle mass. The fat doesn't come off unless we're getting in the protein we're supposed to.

Congratulations! Wishing you well with your upcoming surgery & weight loss. I am still pre-op, so there are others that can be more helpful, but reading the posts from people who have gone through surgery has been helpful for me. This site is a great resource, people on here are very helpful with sharing their experiences. I also like watching YouTube videos from people who have had the surgery (search VSG). There are many of them with all different topics (what they ate, what they brought to hospital, etc.) Here are a few different examples of YouTube posts. Each of them has multiple videos on various topics. There are lots of other personalities out there that you may find helpful.

I will be discharged from hospital today. Hopefully everything will be fine in long-term. Height: 5'7 Weight: 238 Age: 41 Doctor used DaVinci robotic assisted to do my surgery.

Derma Rolling Loose Skin?
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to Candace76's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
She is young and just had a baby. Her skin would probably go back to normal without any treatment. Not the case with weight loss patients! As others said-the only option for us is plastic surgery. Don't waste your money on all that other stuff, save it for plastics! Just remember-"if it sounds too good to be true...!" -

Lying about not getting surgery is awful
2021NewMe replied to GinormousReislin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have a friend that I known for many years that was always on the obese side, she suddenly lost so much weight and I swear the first thing I thought was she got the surgery, the thing is that when I asked she said she was on a diet that kaiser put her on with shakes and stuff, but I know she got the surgery. now that I know what is required and how she was acting when we met for coffee and she just drank water. well anyways, I felt like that was messed up that she would not share it when I myself had weight issues with obesity. I felt like she must not be a true friend if she cant share such an important issue I would never have judged her, I am not like that I think its a privacy issue for her. I myself did share but with a small circle of five people closest to me. now is it and will it eventually leak out YES of course bc if you dont want it to get out tell nobody. so i expect it to someday be something that everyone might know and that is ok if someday just not now or immediately bc I am not a reality show and I dont want everyone all up in my business all asking me questions, wanting to see me and like no privacy. I dont mind people knowing my business but in my time, at my pace when I am good and ready and think people are worthy of knowing any of my business.
