I'm 8 days post op and finally feeling great! My doc says 3 weeks liquid diet, 1 week soft and then normal. Now that I'm feeling better I want to eat! I do get satisfied on a small yogurt or soup but I honestly don't know if I can make it to 21 days! I wish my doc only had a 2 week post op like most of the others. I wonder why there is such difference of opinion among docs. Any thoughts?

Gas (fart)
Slave to Senor Sleeve replied to shelbyschroepfer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I realized I burped more in the beginning because my sips were too big. Once I measured 5ml out and learned what that felt like in my mouth, my burping improved a bunch too. I was sleeved on the 8th so it will get better. The farting is different. What are you eating? I just started full liquids and each day added a new thing (yesterday milk, today yogurt, tomorrow protein shakes). -

Yes, puree was after full liquids for me, but some surgeons skip puree stage. For puree I could eat the types of food listed above but they had to be pureed to the consistency of applesauce. Exceptions: refried beans, cottage cheese, yogurt, and poached or scrambled eggs could be eaten without being pureed. Soft foods came next, that's what I'm on now. Soft foods for my program is high Protein foods (meat, fish, dairy, soy, beans, lentils), cooked non-starchy veggies, and soft fruits -- as long as I can cut them with a fork. So I could have ground beef but not a steak, for example. And even though I could cut a potato with a fork, I can't have it because it is a starchy veggie. My program is very strict and very detailed!

Sleeved April 27 and on Pureed foods, who is with me
judyoz posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I found the smoother the better for foods. Tried ground up chicken salad, felt like a lead balloon. Mashed potatoes were not good either (I just had to try them). What is working is Greek yogurt, mashed beans. I am going to try cream of wheat tomorrow and cottage cheese tomorrow. -

Newly sleeved 2.28.13
michelleooo513 replied to prettylittleheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was also sleeved on the 26th! I have lost 27 all together including preop... 12 since surgery but tomorrow that may be different.... anyways I started puree as of day 3 and im on till day 21. I drink2 protein shakes a day to help with my protein intake. One of the shakes i basically make it into a smoothie and add goodies like natural peanut butter.. plain greek yogurt for extra protein. I am fortunate enough to have suffer very lil to no discomfort. .. nor problems drinking anything or really even the amount. Anyways... I am eating this like pureed refries beans with ff sour cream.. pureed egg salad with low fat mayo and mustard... pureed chilli.. etc. I always add cheese to just about everything to give it a lil extra. I melt a lowfat babybel cheese and thats an extra 6 grams right there! Or drink a v8... that has a lil boost of protein in it also. -

tpietrowski replied to prettylittleheart's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 32 had surgery on 2/28... Down 11 lbs but 32 total since preop appt. Hi walk about an hour every day Monday through Friday. I still have a very hard time getting in my fluids and Protein. If I take sips it still feels like it's upsetting my stomach but I do find drinking from a straw helps a lot. I have my check up tomorrow with my nutritionist and hoping that she will give me some suggestions or moved me onto the next stage. I did have some scrambled eggs tonight and that went okay but I ate them too fast and ended up feeling sick. I also have tried some small bites of chicken chewed very well and that went down okay so I'm hoping that I can get the protein in that way or by a Greek yogurt. 6 days of liquids and ready to snap
lapband4meNOW replied to skinnyrebal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on full liquids the day after surgery. I had Clear Liquids two days before surgery just to clear out the bowels. I dont understand why your doc would have you not on any Protein at all? You should ask. Doesn't sound right to me. I am 6 days out. I am eating all kinds of things. My doc said the same thing, if it is soft and mushy, try slow and if it is okay, go for it. I eat right now, with no problem - Protein shakes, pudding (sugar free), Jello (sugar free), dannon yogurt smoothies (lite), sucked on a chocolate kiss (dissolved in mouth), fudgsicles (no sugar, 4 grams of Fiber from health food store..YUMMY), creamy tomatoe soup at hand (that is really thin and yummy!), piece of cheddar cheese I ate in TINY little bites (went down just fine), applesauce, garlic mashed potatoes from country crock with sour cream and a little melted cheddar cheese whipped together (dont eat too much, just a 1/2 cup max it made me a little gassy), stuck my finger in Peanut Butter and sucked it off (dissolved before it went down)...it may sound like a lot, but I really can't eat much of it at all. I can only finish half of the creamy tomatoe soup at hand from campbells..but it is very satisfying. I too have chewed some stuff up and spit it out. I did that with a piece of chicken and a tortilla chip. LOL Anyway, like I said, I am 6 days out and my doc says all this is fine. You may want to try adding some ice and blend it to your drinks to make it a little thicker too. I think you would be fine with applesauce too. Just some ideas. -
I don't cook. Very very rarely I will get in the kitchen. I've never really liked it and it's a waste of time and food for me. You can purchase food for every single phase, post surgery. Clear soups like chicken broth, chicken noodle (just drain out the chicken and the noodles, the broth is delish), unjury Chicken Soup is pretty good. I bought one of those cup warmer things to keep it warm and near me. I couldn't drink it all before it got cold. For the first 6 to 8 weeks, you won't be eating a lot. I went to Kroger and got broccoli cheese soup, chili, chicken tortilla soup. Just stick them in the blender or strain the solids out ( just no tomato soup, it's too acidic. Well, my stomach doesn't like it anyway). You can get pre boiled eggs.. mash them up with some mayo and mustard, a little pickle juice, salt and pepper-- egg salad. Yummy, soft and about 5 grams of Protein. Yogurt, cottage cheese, refried Beans with cheese, mashed potatoes (at this point in your recovery, mashed potatoes won't make a huge difference. it'll be soft warm and filling). I like ham and bean soup, sent through the blender as well. And don't forget your liquids! You can make suntea, sweetened with splenda or another alternative, or drink it plain. Water, juice (I drank white grape juice), diet snapple. There's also Isopure. Some people love the stuff. I wasn't too fond of it but there's, 40 grams of protein per bottle! Check it out at your local GNC. I had to mask the flavor with some fruit juice. Further along you will find that you can get a lot of things lowcarb. Just ask for no bun or a lettuce wrap-- Wendy's will serve their chicken/burgers on a bed of lettuce with a knife and a fork. Hardees/Carl's Jr sells all of their burgers Lowcarb-wrapped in lettuce leaves. Jimmy Johns has the Unwich which is any of their sandwiches wrapped in lettuce instead of bread, or chopped on a bed of lettuce like a salad. Same with subway. And if they don't serve it that way, you can make it that way. It never hurts to ask. On the weekends, like Friday night I go through the drive thru at KFC and get a 4 piece in their grilled recipe. I take the skin off because I don't eat skin and at home I pair it with bagged salad or sometimes I can get myself to steam some vegetables to go with it. It doesn't take much to fll me up at all. ALSO Atkins has really great frozen lowcarb meals. The chicken broccoli alfredo is excellent.

I was on it for about 14 days, although milk, yogurt, jello, pudding, and cottage cheese were allowed. I was struggling with an unrelated health problem, newly diagnosed, so I honestly slept through most of those 14 days (9 were in the hospital). Honestly, I barely remember it!

@emk101009 wonderful weight loss how do you know hungry you "should" be???? "it" varies for all of us some of us might never have lost their hunger issues others maybe at 3 months others at.............. stalls happen to most all of us Get Over It must be patient - it will pass (like gas ) time periods/stalls will vary from 3 weeks to.............. God Grant Me Patience, Just Hurry Up About It!!! We're all different we lose amount of weight in different time periods we lose inches at the beginning from different areas ie less boobs or less tushy!!! yogurt is not that filling but it is great, and has lots of Protein too you can never have too much protein during the day dense protein like chicken is wonderful - very filling you didn't chew thoroughly?? means you probably ate too fast too!!!! KNOCK IT OFF slow down with your eating and chew better that wouldn't cause you to stretch your sleeve after each bite, put your utensil down for a few seconds too use a baby spoon - that helps too i "think" many people at one time or another worry that they might have stretched their new little tummies as far as "stretching" your tummy eat wayyyy too much food, too fast all morning, noon, afternoon, evening & night in other words 24/7 grazing ALL day (like you/me did in the good 'ol days this will cause weight gain but as far as stretching the sleeve - don't "think"it happens follow all the rules and things should be good you'll get wrinkles if you worry toooo much good luck 43 lbs down!!! kathy congrats

I definitely can empathize with the food looming, for sure. The first night I got back into town from surgery, I went out with a few friends to one of my favorite food places. It was pretty much torture. Haha. My post-op diet is going pretty decently. I'm also on three weeks of varying liquids, the last day of which is Thursday. Yay! I've been able to go semi-liquids like yogurt, oatmeal, and sugar free pudding at least. Kudos for three weeks of strictly liquid. That's even less fun. I've basically been doing a lot of creamy Soup the last ten days, along with a Protein shake and a few other odds and ends. I can easily say I'll never have the desire to have broth again! Protein wise, I had to go through a few different ones before I found one I could at least tolerate. I'm doing the EAS carb control chocolate. I'm sure if you look around a little bit, you'll find something that you can enjoy at least a bit. Besides the food, I'm doing well. Recovery went great; the transition been easier than I thought. That gas problem is finally subsiding. Hallelujah.

Sleeve buddy needed in the Seattle area, surgery date 9/17/2014
auntiemel replied to Pamela870's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Pamela870 I tried the premier Protein and it was awful lol...I sound like grumpy cat. I honestly have such a hard time with protein. Most of it makes me want to gag. I could chug them pre-op and not taste them as much, but now post op I have a really hard time getting all the protein in. I'm eating greek yogurt and milk and things like that, but it's still not 60 or more grams a day -
Two Months Postop (Week 8)
SexySlim commented on mrsteacher's blog entry in Sleeved by Dr. Kelly in Mexico
Good job! I lost 4.2 this week. I think because I started back having a protien shake in the mornings. I only got in 2 workouts last week, but my brother got married Sunday and I danced the night away, so I'm contributing my loss to that. I, like you, also do not count calories. That is not a way of life. I eat what I want in small portions. I was away the whole weekend and I think I did pretty good considering the fact I ate nothing home cooked. The hotel had breakfast and I had sausage and a french toast stick, or greek yogurt and strawberries. I had half a piece of cake and half a kiddie portion of frozen custard this weekend. I feel really good and I got a lot of compliments about my weight loss. I ordered an elliptical machine yesterday, I have always wanted one. I can't wait to start! Keep up the good work sleeve sis -
I lost 1.2 lbs this week. This puts my current weight at 215.4 (from a high of 246). My total weight loss since starting this journey has been 30.6 lbs (average weight loss per week is 2.5….which does not include the 10 lbs I lost post op). I am two months PostOp and I am pretty much eating whatever I want – except in smaller amounts (examples of things I am eating – watermelon, spaghetti, cereal, small salads, asparagus, etc.). If it can fit into one of my 4 oz containers that is how much I eat. Best meal this week was a tomato, mozzarella, basil salad with left over fresh tuna my husband caught (ate separately…drizzled wasabi, soy, ginger dressing on the tuna..yum!). The day before I had the tuna on a small bed of lettuce with the dressing and sliced up cucumbers. Please note that I don’t enjoy cooking at all. I did make the tomato/mozzarella salad but my husband cooked the tuna. I’ve been looking up “make ahead” salads so I have more healthy “go to” items in the fridge (this weekend I want to try a black bean confetti salad and a Texas caviar salad – found easy recipes through pinterest). I thought those would be good with some pre-cooked chicken. I made the mistake of watching the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead this week. Now I want a juicer and started obsessing about getting in micro nutrients (I liked parts of the documentary but not all of it. It is about juice fasting.). I also made the mistake of weighing myself every day (which has not helped me mentally and has me questioning everything I am eating when I am eating below 1200 calories as it is). I am close enough to being under 200 to “taste” it. We bought plane tickets to go home this summer and I would love to be under 200 when I go. I am feeling some “self pressure” to drop those pounds in the coming month which I think is contributing to my recent blah mood (mainly because I know I should probably join the Y and get on a regular exercise program if I want to lose that weight in the next month). I had a moment yesterday where everything was ticking me off and all I wanted to do was go and eat and eat and eat. I went to McDonalds and got a hot fudge sundae and that made my stomach feel horrible and I pretty much didn’t eat for the rest of the night. I was mad that I couldn’t eat like I wanted but got over that (I’m normally a pretty happy person so I am going to blame my recent mood on PMS). My exercise is still hit or miss and not really planned. I walked 3 miles on Saturday and did some hiking and a lot of walking around on Sunday. I am not counting calories or weighing my food (too much “work” for me). I am eating in 1, 2 or 4 oz increments (these are the mini containers I purchased so my meals are measured with that). Here is an idea of what I am eating: Breakfast – High Protein Slimfast Chocolate Shake with Skim Milk (sometimes with strawberries or bananas blended in). Sometimes Go Lean Crunch cereal with skim milk served in a ramekin. Sometimes a ready to drink shake that I have on hand in case I am running late. Sometimes an Atkins bar. Snack (around 10 a.m.) – Atkins bar or 4 oz flavored greek yogurt with 1 oz of Go Lean Crunch mixed in or applesauce or jello. Lunch (I usually start eating from 11:30 to 1 p.m. in little increments) 4 oz applesauce 4 oz of left over dinner (i.e. spaghetti, grilled tuna, sliced ham and cheese, usually something with protein, etc.) 4 oz watermelon (this is a recent thing but I have also had sliced cucumbers too) Sugar Free Jello snack pack Mid Snack (around 3 p.m.) – Almonds, Atkins bar, yogurt, cheese stick (any of those) Dinner (around 5:30) 4 oz of dinner 4 oz of veggies with dinner (I usually don’t eat the carbs that go with the dinner) Desert – SF popsicle, cut up fruit, or SF gelatin

It's time to buy my proteins! Huzzah! This was discussed in my class, but I clearly didn't retain this information. I have two questions on the pre/post op liquid diets. As I recall, liquid was define as anything in a liquid state at room temperature. This included popsicles, broth, shakes, etc. So question one: Does yogurt count? I'm not sure how I'd define that consistency! I've found a bunch of Greek yogurt flavors (without that I enjoy and would love to put them into rotation during this time if I'm allowed. Secondly: How many of these per day am I supposed to have? Obviously there's the breakfast/lunch/dinner ones. Do I have a full shake for 2 Snacks a day as well? For those of you in the pre/post op liquid diet or who remember theirs, I'd love to hear when and what you ate!

Different doc, different liquid diet?
Aquarius12459 replied to LAURIE290's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Laurie, if you mixing your own protein shakes and are using water, try adding either a 1/2 cup of the cottage cheese or a 6 oz of either vanilla or plain to the chocolate shake in the blender. It will help make it a little thicker and you really don't taste it. A fruit flavored yogurt would do well in a vanilla flavored protein shake or you could take a RTD one and put it in the blender and add it. -
Protein sources other than shakes
healthy-me-in-Az replied to KatieKateKate's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You can only find CarbMaster yogurt at Smith's because it is a Kroger brand. Kroger owns Smith's, King Sooper, Fred Meyer, Fry's, Ralph's (except in certain areas) Kroger's (obviously!) and just about a dozen others. I am not as familiar with the ones in the east. I live in Arizona and we have Fry's. Oh yeah, and I work there. :w00t: LOL It is actually pretty good yogurt... I am eating one now so I felt compelled to post! -
I love Disney although I haven't been quite that many times. We did go this past March though. I have tried several different brands and flavors of protein shakes. My favorite is Bariatric Advantage Banana. The shakes are getting very old though so it is hard to force myself to drink 3 a day. Luckily 3 days after surgery I will be able to eat sugar free pudding and no sugar added Greek yogurt. I have never tried Greek yogurt so hopefully it is good. Your thread was actually the first time I posted. I have been reading for months now.

Yes, I am 5 months out but as you say, at a lower BMI so perhaps this is more appropriate for those closer to goal than those just starting out? I don't know. Initially, I was eating 800 calories a day (and even that was hard) but as per the recommendation of my dietician I aimed for 1000 by 1 month out. It was hard! I needed protein shakes.I am 5 foot 3 so according to the above calculator I need to eat only 1037 calories to lose weight. I found I barely lost weight when I was even eating 1200 calories. What I am saying is everyone has different calorie needs so one size does not fit all! And this calculator scientifically shows that. My calorie needs are not the same as someone taller, younger, with a higher BMI, or someone who is a teacher and on their feet all day...We can calculate our individual needs. I have been trying to hit 1037 daily - not under or over. I was surprised that my optimal calorie level was so low, which is why I thought this would be interesting to share. As you rightly say, it has been HARD to get this level of calories in - I still have at least 1 protein shake a day to accomplish this. Many days I don't quite reach it but I try to reach the desired level and find I honestly lose more weight when I eat at this level rather than undereat!! If I see on MFP I've only eaten 800 calories at the end of the day, I eat some yogurt with a teaspoon of peanut butter for example or some chicken chunks etc. I try to make it to my recommended level and I have been having pretty good results with it. I have currently lost 48lbs which is 80% of my excess weight. I'm losing an average of 10lbs a month (some months less, some months more). I absolutely take my hat off to those starting at a higher BMI and with a longer journey. I know it is super hard and those people have my absolute respect !! This is a tool to inform, that's all. Science can help us. Calculate your PERSONAL needs, try to meet them, see how it goes! ADD: But yes if your doctor has given you a specific plan which goes against what the calculator says, absolutely follow the doctors plan first!! I was not given a specific plan; maybe there are others in the same boat

Now since I am 4 months post-op I eat fat free cottage cheese, yogurt, grilled or baked salmon/chicken, soft veggies, drink Premier and nectar Protein drinks, etc. It is a variety but still no carbs or fried foods. During the earlier stages I would eat refried Beans from Taco Bell and Wendy's chili and slowly incoroporated different soft foods to get an idea of how my stomach would handle it. So far I have lost 40 lbs and 10 lbs from goal. I was also a low BMI as well. I do not keep track of my foods but I do read labels to verify sugar and carb contents.

So is Greek yogurt and cottage cheese.

Ginger Lim, your new life is just beginning. It will be so worth it! My last food indulgence was a large size bowl of soft frozen yogurt with hot fudge sauce. Haven't missed it since being sleeved!
