  3. Got the "official" date! Plane tickets booked, and hotel for the first night down there. I don't think I want to spend 3 nights in the hospital....even though it's free. Excited, nervous, and a little bit scared.....but I've been waiting for what feels like forever to get up the nerve to book the surgery. CAN'T WAIT!!!

    is this bad?

I don't think it's bad. I ate plenty within my first month post op. Now I have a box I haven't touched in about 6 weeks. Maybe when it gets hot I will go back to them. If they are like my little popscicles, each one gives you 2 oz of water, so enjoy!

    Confused about meals

Decaf coffee seems to have broken my 10 day stall. I have had three cups and each time was practically running to the bathroom.
  6. Ok great I have my consultation in a few weeks. I just have so many unanswered questions about Aetna. But I'm hoping I'm told 3 months

  8. I'm sooo happy for you! It sounds like your recovery is happening very slowly but surely! I hadn't been able to go to the gym for a week and a half because I was too weak from not being able to drink. I don't think I answered your question before. This is my third fill. My first one was uneventful, as I thought they all would be. I hope he doesn't take out much, but I will deal if he does. I've lost 20 lbs these last 2 week; that's the only good thing in all this. But I feel sick and run down and irritable and it's also messing with my cycle and my attitude . Oh, my poor family! MY KINGDOM FOR AN Optifast PROTEIN SHAKE!!!. I went to shop rite today and they are having a big sale on anything drinkable... I bought tons of diet snapples and sobe water and waters to bathe my mouth in after the unfill. How pathetic am I???

    Protein bars

Anyone know how far out u have to be to eat them? I'm 4 weeks post op and I wanted to try a pure protein chocolate bar to see if that would help with my protein intake but I'm scared. And my drs nut won't return my calls.
  10. HW: 312 SW: 300 Weight Day before Surgery: 289 GW: 150 I had Gastric Sleeve back in 2014 then got pregnant almost a year later and just did the Traditional Duodenal Switch 4 days ago. Day 2 was a little scary after eating 2 pieces of Jell-O and half of a Sugar free Popsicle I ended up throwing up 6 times but in very small portions and some blood came out as well. Did some testing after and it wasn't anything major just has to stop eating and stick to liquids a couple more days before trying anything else from Phase 1. I was supposed to go home yesterday but Dr kept me an extra day to see how I did with Phase 1 continuation and see if my white blood count came back ok cause it was slightly elevated after surgery which is normal. Blood work came back and I'm all good to go home! Yay! So my journey begins. Anyway else recently here did the Traditional Duodenal Switch in the past 3 months, how are you feeling and doing now? 11. I am 15 weeks out too (sleeve surgery Oct 3rd) and I am down 44 pounds. I would say you are right on target. At least I think I am on target. 40 pounds in 15 weeks is approximately 2.66 pounds per week. That is normal, healthy weight loss. I have always been a slow loser too, but I don't worry about the amount of weight loss everyweek, just that I am losing and not gaining. I have never been a binge eater; however, I used to take in the largest majority of my calories in the evening and I (like you) find myself eating all day now (stoking the metabolism fire). Good Luck to you! Keep us all posted on your progress.
  12. Thanks for your response. I am just going week 2. I am feeling really hungry right now and know I can't consume any regular food right now until at least 6-8 weeks. I have another question if you don't mind. Right now I'm drinking a lot of water. I don't feel any restriction at all, so I don't know if I should drink until I throw up to know my tolerance. I'm suppose to drink at least 64 oz, but should take all day.

    Swollen stomach

That's normal. You still have the gas they used in your surgery in there that needs to work its way out. Make sure you walk, walk, walk and in a few days to a week you'll notice the discomfort and swelling will be gone.

    Am I eating too much?

I think the problem might be that you aren't weighing your food. I will get my sleeve on the 26th, and once I'm off the liquid diet my plan calls for 2 ounces Protein (eaten slowly, small bites), followed by 2 ounces low-carb veggies (again, slowly with small bites), then, if I'm still hungry, 2 ounces of fruit, and only after that, 2 ounces starchy veggies. I practiced this for a couple of weeks so that I would be used to it and it is pretty hard, but doable. The main thing is to never allow yourself to get hangry. Once my hunger gets to a certain point, I think 'screw it, I'll eat what I want' but if I'm taking in enough liquid and protein, I don't get to that point and I can follow my plan. 17. Like many of you I have been through it all in the way of diets and better eating. And every single time I would be dieting or trying to lose weight, people would always say stuff like...."just eat more fruits and whole wheat/grains, beans, brown rice, etc". Ya know, things that most people substitute for other unhealthy foods. Problem is, for ME those items ALWAYS made me stall or even gain weight!!! I could never have them! My hope is that once I have the surgery I WILL be able to have items like that again occasionally and actually be able to still lose weight or maintain, depending on where I am along in the process, but NOT GAIN! I always missed those things when dieting. Have any of you experienced this? Were they no-no items for you too BEFORE surgery? Could you eat them again, like most normal people, once you had the surgery?

    high BMI's

Hi Christina, Our stats are similar. I'm 26 and 5'6 with HW being 293. I had surgery 4/1 and my total weight loss has been 50 pounds. Unlike you, I'm more bottom heavy. I have a little bit of a belly but nothing some clothes couldn't hide. My problem areas are mainly my legs and my butt. I've been at a stall for the past week or so so I'm hoping once I break the stall more weight will fall off. My exercise regimen has been okay. Since I'm more bottom heavy, I have pain in my hips which makes walking for long periods of time really painful. I did walk a lot when I first got out of surgery. I was wheeled into recovery at 11am and by noon I was already walking around. I walked at least 10 minutes every hour (even at night - couldn't sleep). Now, I'm comfortable walking for maybe 30 minutes until the pain starts to creep back up. I follow up with a swim or resistance exercises with weights or abs. Let me know if you have anymore questions

    Favorite "fast foods" redux

Chick Filet grilled nuggets. $3 Wendy's Junior Bacon Cheeseburger no bun. $2 A HUGE favorite -- Chipotle bowl, no rice, double Beans, meat, cheese, extra sour cream, all the salsas. Easily 3-4 meals. $8 If I can't take it home -- Chipotle Kid's Taco. No rice, no shells, double beans. You get the meat, the beans, the toppings, a small drink and a bag of chips to give the kids. Still more than I can eat. $4 Any grocery. lunch meat counter. Two or three slices of meat and cheese. They look at you weird, but I'm ok with that. As I am getting so little, I get the good stuff -- Boar's Head in my area. $2 -$3 costco or Sam's. Hot dog. No bun, all the toppings. $1 Or the gigantic pizza slices. Toppings only. $2 Noodles and Company. Caesar side salad with Parmesan chicken add on. $3 One of my summer favorites.
  20. I had surgery last thursday morning and my post op diet calls for Clear liquids the first week. I've had enough Jello and propel Water and broth and sf popsicles to choke a horse. I'm supposed to walk 30 mins a day but today, for the first time, I guess the 200 calories/per day diet is taking its toll and I feel too weak to think about going for a walk. What can I do??? I'd KILL for a Protein shake but that's not on my clear liquid list unfortunately! Suggestions anyone?? I would be most grateful, cathy

    Protein protein protein

My team allows up to 6 meals per day to meet my protein goals. I'm eating every 2.5 - 3 hours. I'm 10 weeks post op and can make my protein goals much easier by having many little meals. I'm slowly reducing total meals and increasing serving sizes, but 2 - 4 oz us all I can handle. Take your time, find what works best for you.
  22. So let me give you a run down of my last two weeks........ I’m definitely not looking for sympathy, I just want to know if any of you have been through this so I’m not going through it alone. I had my revision from VSG to RNY on 7/22 - Day 1 was rough but after that everything was a breeze. I had tapered myself off pain meds and felt great. Sunday morning (6 days post op) I felt pretty dizzy and light headed which I linked to dehydration so I stepped up my liquids. This lasted on and off all day. Come Monday morning and I’m starting to have some left side stomach pain and linked shoulder pain. I’m not gonna lie, the shoulder pain hurt worse than anything imaginable and I tried simethicone and nothing helped so it was not linked to gas. I called my surgeon and he suggested to come into the ER for eval. CT scan and blood work later, I was getting admitted. Let me tell you what though - I have not felt the same since they stretched me flat on the CT scan, it felt like every fiber that had started to form back together was ripped open again. I was admitted to the hospital for 3 nights for severe dehydration and to fully rule out a leak, which was definite after an Upper GI. During the first 2 days of admission my surgeon allowed me nothing by mouth and near the end of that I could just feel my stomach going crazy inside my abdomen looking for substance. When I was finally able to eat, my stomach hated me. The first thing that hit my stomach caused unbelievable cramps. A day later and I can still feel fluids hit my pouch and cramps follow. My pain in my shoulder has gone away, I’m still pretty sore in my stomach but for the life of my can’t figure out why my stomach is so mad at me for drinking. Has anyone of you experienced this? If so, PLEASE reassure me that things do get better 🙏🏻

    I ate a lot today!

Ms. Lady - I suffer from migraines as well - many!!! Anywhere from 9 - 12 per month. They have not gotten worse since surgery. When I was on liquids only, when I was eating just a few TB's at a time, I was worried, but I went two weeks without a headache at all!!! I was shocked, that hasn't happened in years! I am certain it was because many of my migraines are triggered by foods. Some I know and many I do not!! I personally HOPE my hunger does not return and I continue to be satisfied with very little!!!! I obsess - WORRY that I will begin to eat more, therefore have to "cut back" to keep from gaining!!! Right now, maintaining is EASY, not to continue to lose is the hardest part!!! LoL

    I ate a lot today!

Sounds yummy. I make ravioli using wonton wrappers...I make ricotta or some such filling, and seal between two thin wonton skins, boil for about 3 or 4 minutes, sauce up... cheese up... eat up! 2 or three are usually enough. I make several small dishes, and eat the next few days.
  25. Has anyone else ever tried this? I have not had a fill yet so I have no problems eating it. You take 3-4 large apples a little on the tart side, peel, core and chunk them up and put into a gallon ziploc bag. Add 1/2 pkg of sugar free strawberry jello. close the bag and shake it up till all pieces are coated! Delicious! Satisfaction for that need for both crunch and sweet!
