  1. My first stall came around day 15 post op and lasted 10 days. I was devastated! This week, I'm 7 weeks and 2 days post op now and I have been gaining and losing the same 2 lbs for the past week. Today, I was down an additional lb so now, I'm at my post surgery low! 34 lbs since I started and 27 from my surgery weight. From surgery, that's an average of 3.8 lbs per week. I'll admit, I'm a scale slave. I try not to get upset when I see my weight go up and down. Weight loss is not liner and I have to keep telling myself that. I know that if I keep with the program, then I will continue to loose weight. It also helps me continue to be more and more motivated with the exercise component which I've not been so great with.

    September bypass buddies??

Hello everyone! How is everyone doing? It has been 15 days since surgery and I have lost 15 lbs (24 lbs total) and 13 inches overall. I saw the doctor and nutritionist yesterday and everything is on track. I had a small blip with a scrambled egg getting stuck last Friday but after calling the doctor, I waited it out and went back to eating pureed foods. I am now on soft foods for the next 2-4 weeks depending on my tolerance. It really boggled my mind when my nutritionist said I could have toasted bread or crackers (saltine or Ritz). After years of different diets, I have to concentrate on the new rules. I don't plan on eating these because I know before surgery I would sit and eat a whole sleeve of Ritz at a time. Thank goodness that my tool will no longer allow me to do that. I have been very fortunate that I haven't had any of the nausea or dizziness. I have had low energy but I make a point to walk a mile every day (weather permitting). I am suppose to increase that mileage as time goes by to 3 miles. I also am having regular bowel movements which is a relief! LOL I am heading back to work on Monday to a desk job with a restriction to not lift more than 10 lbs for the next 4 weeks providing that Medical at work clears me. The only thing is that I am still having pains in my left lower abdomen. My doctor said this is very normal since that is where he did the most work and to expect it to continue for the next 4 weeks. I am no longer taking any pain reliever because if I do, I will over do it. Doctor told me no vacuuming, mopping, reaching, bending for the next 4 weeks because I am still healing from Major Abdominal Surgery!!! LOL I have found that if I wear my binder at night, I can sleep better since I tend to roll over to sleep on my side. I do not wear it during the day because it can still be uncomfortable to sit in certain chairs and the binder adds extra pressure. Overall, I have to say that I am extremely happy that I had gastric bypass. I am no longer aching in my left hip and other joints. This tells me how much food plays a part on inflammation on my body. Now to remember this so I don't go back to eating and drinking things that I shouldn't. I know they say that eventually everything in moderation is okay but I don't want to feel horrible again. Have a great day everyone!!!!

    Lapband to sleeve

I had the lapband 12 years ago lost roughly 85 lbs and kept it off until 6 months ago they had to deflate my band because of issues. I also had two children within those years. I’ve gained 43 lbs within the 6 months and they removed my lapband on 8/13. My doctor refuses to do the surgeries at the same time because he said you should let your insides heal. I tend to be on the more cautious side so I want thankful for this and totally agree. I know some doctors see no issue in doing both and also personal choice. My insurance originally approved me for both at once but approved two separate once my doctor wrote a letter. Believe me it is not ideal to have two but in a way I’m thankful, I just get paranoid I guess. I’m due to have sleeve shirts 10/1. No matter what you go with good luck!!!
  4. And since I sort- of now have made myself a diet plan, now I'm trying to add in my meds for peak efficiency. :-* do know space calcium citrate away from iron, away, from multivitamins. Okay but doesn't protein shakes also contain calcium, space them away from multi vitamins also. I know Ditropan first thing in morning, Zyrtec, signulair at night like. h.s.Well I have Wellbutrin 3 times daily, when do it work those in? Do they fight with anybody? I was supposed to take liquid Tylenol for certain length of of time , why when I am observing,no discernible. pain? I do understand. Zofran 8Am - 4PM - 10 PM , which I must continue because of Precious Pouch and I being quesey longer than 2 weeks. And Lovenox, oh that's one I am GOOD at, 8 AM-8PM, go jab thyself. The rest of the time shoehorn 6 mini meals in, take QS fluids in 48 oz moving up to 64 and then past. Exercise and walk, try to live life but nothing over 5 lbs of weight. And smile, smile, smile, wouldn' want to scare off future WLS patients, would we? Oh yes B12 is to be started, now where does it fit in?
  5. Ok, will wonders never cease!!! I actually had a pretty great fasting day yesterday. It was a nail biter at times to be sure. LOL. But I made it to 25 hours! Holy sh*t Batman! Then I ate ALL the things. (Not really, but I did eat a good dinner of chicken and spinach with garlic.) I did not get anywhere near close to 60g of protein. I'm reading that if you are MO or overweight, that may not be necessary. The protein that is used would be extra broken stuff and things like skin before it pulls from lean muscle. But I'm doing more research to find out for sure. It's also 9.20.18. That means Duh. Duh. Dunnnnhhhhhh. It's time for my monthy accounting according to my date of surgery. I had surgery 2.20.18 and that makes today the start of Month 8. I've been doing IF for roughly 3 weeks. When I weighed on 8.20.18 I was at a then "new low" and then had my usual bounce up at the end of the month. So my weight on 8.20 was lower than it was on 9.03. But it still sucks that in this month, I've lost only 3.8 lbs from 8.20-9.20. I did lose 5.75 inches so I am gonna glom onto that as a win. Weight 8.20.18 (164.6lbs) | Weight 9.20.18 (160.8lbs) | -3.8lbs loss (I've lost 61.6lbs since day of surgery and 126.2lbs from my most recent high of 287+lbs.) 08.20.18 Measurements | 09.20.18 Measurements | -5.75inches lost Chest 39.5 | 39 | -.5 Waist 32.5 | 31 | -1.5 Hips 41.5 | 41 | -.5 Neck 13.5 | 13 | -.5 Right Thigh 22 | 21 | -1 Left Thigh 22 | 21 | -1 Right Arm 11 | 10.75 | -.25 Left Arm (Lymphedema from cancer) 12.5 | 12 | -.5 On 10.01.18 I will post my official losses for the month of September. Fun with math (and flags, mostly math though). I'm going to try to do one more 24 hour fast today. That will make it 3 consecutive days of 24 hour fasts. This weekend will be busy and we have the playoff games for our minor league (Atlantic League) team on at least Friday and Saturday and maybe even Sunday nights. I'm planning on making us wraps for dinners before we leave for the park, but I do think there will be popcorn involved and probably a few peanuts--not many for me. But that way I can hold the transgressions down to popcorn and it sure helps if I'm full. So I will not do fasting--or maybe just 14/10 with regular eating after that. We'll see how it goes. I'm nervous!

    Stalling Early ON

I have the same situation! Sleeved 19 Jul, have lost 30 lbs. Had almost 3 weeks where I didn't lose anything, lost about 5, now stall again. It is very frustrating. I know I'm not exercising enough, so that is probably it.
  7. I haven't been on this site for ages. I was banded in June 2009. Went from 74kg to 50kg, felt great. No major issues with band except that now it is really not helping. Over the past couple of years I have regained to 66kg. I feel as though I am a total failure . Went to see my Doc on Tuesday and he was lovely. He said that the lifespan of a band is between 5 - 10 years, 15 if you are really lucky and that what I am experiencing is not my fault. I was expecting him to suggest a sleeve but he said no , there are too many issues with reflux and regain etc with sleeves, that my best option is a Roux en Y. Whilst I think that is probably a better option than a sleeve ( at least they are not throwing half your stomach away) it still seems like such a major op. He gave me all the literature, costings etc and he also gave me a small fill ( at my request) although he doesnt think that I will be able to achieve what I want with my band - it has had its day! Whilst the info for any op is scary it was the risk of death of 1/100 that completely freaked me out. Surely that's not accurate? If it is presumably it is more risky initially when a person is extremely obese and due to anaesthetic risks? Would love to hear peoples experiences. The good the bad the ugly. If it has helped. If you are keeping the weight off etc. Also links to former threads which may be helpful as I haven't negotiated this site in forever! TIA Lynn
  8. My stomach is made of iron, I swear. Only things that bother it are vitamins! It was that way pre WLS, and is the same now. It's funny, at 3 weeks post op I was on trip to a week long meeting and the host is known for hosting elaborate meals. I was eating 10-15 course meals each night. I mean obviously I didn't eat every course, nor eat very much of the courses I did have. But I think back and wonder how I *knew* my stomach would be able to handle everything, duck, pork, raw fish, cooked fish, shellfish, etc. But it did, with no issues. *Disclaimer - I don't encourage anyone else to go off plan so early post op!

    Non Scale Victories

I weigh less than the weight listed on my driver's license and it wasn't the correct weight to begin with! Also, yesterday, I tried on size 10 pants just for the hell of it and they fit! I was so excited I bought two pair. Shopping is so much fun when you fit into everything you try on and have to decide what you like best instead of what fits. : )
  10. Congrats! My surgery date is 10/17!!

Starting with exercise - I think I got this!

congratulations on your amazing progress! I am with you - on this journey the biggest transformation has been in the domain of fitness. I have become much more oriented around maximizing the abilities of my body rather than being thin, a healthy weight or the right BMI. I weigh 175 and wear at medium (8/10). I get a little smaller each week however my attention is on strength training progressions, flexibility and balance improvements and resolving joint issues. It is so much more fun and rewarding to create goals that actually light me up rather than try/hope to adhere to some standard that I am "supposed to be." Keep kicking ass and taking names!

    Losing too fast?

I lost weight very fast, 49 pounds first month and a steady 8-10 pounds every month after till i hit 160 then my body just slowed the weight loss way down and i am working towards increasing calories to reach maintenance calories. Don't worry you will eat more as you get further out and your body will settle in to a good weight with time. If your labs are good and your doctor is not saying anything don't worry and enjoy. some of your fear is you have never been here before and it all feels like too much but you will get used to new image and it will feel and look normal with time. Body image can mess with your perception of what is too much so use your doctor and there staff to judge that not your own self image till you have time to get used to the new you.

    So excited!

My surgery is tomorrow at 0600 hours. My sister asked me if I’m nervous, and I can honestly say I’m only excited and happy. I feel such relief! I went on my first diet at 10, so it’s been 30 years of one diet after another. I finally get to be done with that. I know surgery is not a magic bullet, that I have to make good choices, but now I’m hopeful that when I do the right things, I’ll get results. I can’t wait!

    Worried that I am failing

I now plan to have a snack each day, which is either a Jello cup and/or a Dole fruit cup. The Jello is 5-10 calories and the fruit cups (Peaches or Pineapple in fruit juice) are about 50. Jerky is also pretty good, you can get 50 cal Jacks Links snack packs from Walmart.
  15. Ok, well the OMAD thing is not for me. First of all I flunked and it set me up to be bad--with kind of a binge rebound (involving Taco Hell crispy tacos). *sigh* First off by the time I got to Outback I was Starvin Marvin (at 5pm--first meal). And the lobster was tiny--like 2oz cooked. So I ate some of Mr. F's prime rib, but felt bad about it, so I probably only ate 1.5oz total. Which "should" have been enough, except I also shared a little of his salad and a couple bites of broccoli. And it would have filled most of you--but not my beast of a tummy. And the food was crappy, and so expensive, I didn't want to order anything else. By 9:30 after trivia was over and a glass of wine in my bellah (btw, the wine is bye-bye for a while now--until Mr. F's birthday next month)--I was ready to sacrifice and devour small animals. Nothing would stop me from my appointed rounds!!! I ate 2+ crispy tacos. Calories for the day were well over my limits and I'm up a lb today. I deserve it--even though I walked yesterday. So I think what works best for me is doing my consistent meals. I may not do as "big" of a production for each meal, but I think I will get my 3 meals in over the 14/10 to 16/8 timeframe and continue to do ADF calorie restriction. I have done well with it in the past. And as much as I want to be one of you 20/4 or 23/1s, I can't make it work. It opens up the binge monster which I avoid at all costs whenever possible!!

Post op pain - be honest

My story is different than most. I’m 12 days post op. Was hospitalized on day 10/11 due to pain nausea and heartburn. I still can’t keep anything down. They’re saying it’s reflux so I’m praying it passes. I’m pretty miserable and barely drinking anything. Pain meds made it worse bc constipation but they did help me sleep at first.

    October 2018 Sleevers

Soooooo I posted before and my surgery was supposed to be 10/15. My doctors office called me today and asked if I wanted to push it up to 10/1....UMMMM yes!!!! But I thought I would have time to mentally prepare for the two week pre op liquid diet. Nope....starting tomorrow pray for me!!!!!
  19. I am getting really close to my surgery. I have one more nutrition appt. and then I’m good to go. It’s been 6 months of appts and tests and reading and learning. Today I saw my family doctor and someone in the front office is 3 months post op and we had a good chat. She is 51 lbs less. And I asked about post op pain. She said the air they blow in your system to expose the stomach etc.... was the worst part. Once she worked that out of her system she was good. She did pain meds in the hospital. And one day at home. She missed 10 days of work and although all the changes come and need to be addressed, I am pretty confident that the pain is close to that of maybe a gallbladder removal. Rest and healing is the key, she said pain was minimal. I’m encouraged and look forward to sharing my surgery experience and beyond. 🙂. You got this.

Post op pain - be honest

I had sleeve and had no gas pain, no pain walking, etc. The worst pain was the shots I had to do for 10 days to prevent blood clots! As soon as I was home after 2 days in the hospital I stopped all pain meds as I didn't really need them and I found them binding and contributing to my constipation. I still have no pain, nada, nothing, almost like the surgery wasn't done. I guess I am one of the lucky ones.

  24. Lol "I just want to cry and eat food" I feel you. I gained 2lbs (what feels like 10) back on. Ots like the sleeve gets you all hyped about losing a lbs a day pretty much and then boom!! Nothing! Ughhhhh. I haven't got clearance to do anything else but walk for 20nmins but I am so tempted to just go at it in the gym at least that way I know the lbs I'm gaining is muscle gain related[emoji30] Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
  25. Hi there, I just joined this site looking for support and suggestions on my 1st major weight gain 16 years post a very successful gastric bypass surgery. I am 52, had the surgery at 36, and lost 198 lbs, and maintained a goal weight of 170 lbs, with a yearly fluctuation of 10 lbs, or so, post operatively. I also maintain yearly blood work that drives my nutrition and supplemental needs with my primary doctor. I gained about 20 lbs about 4 years ago after back surgery, but brought it down again within the year. Here is my problem, last January I started menopause, stopped oral contraceptive, and have experienced heavy insomnia, hot flashes, hormone shifts, and large weight gain of 50 lbs for the year. I have to add that this total change in my physical, and emotional health, has led to some depression, which of course does not help. I am still going through Menopause but I feel more emotionally stable and ready to address the weight gain. My question is, where do I start? My surgeon had always said "you have a permanent tool at your disposal, so if you feel yourself slipping from your program, then go back to the beginning" which I have always assumed he meant to start at only fluids and gradually increase intake from there, but I've never truly slipped with a significant weight gain in 15 years, so never had to go back. I would appreciate surgeon and fellow post operative patients advice and suggestions please.
