  1. Apparently being post op RNY is a mosquito repellent. This weekend I was at an outdoor party and after dark everyone (except me!) was going nuts about mosquitos and drenching themselves in bug spray. Previously, as much as I hated the idea of spraying toxic chemicals on myself, I would eventually cave if they were really unbearable and douse myself as well. However- this time I hardly noticed an issue with them at all!!! I’m not sure what it is (possible malabsorption/malnutrition) that made me so unattractive to them, but I’ll take it! 😂😂

That's really good weight loss! If I hit 3 lbs a week I'm super happy. You're doing great!
  3. Thanks all, I did a # on myself yesterday. I had a brial shower to attend, italian food....well....I was able to eat all my food! I was stupid not to have had my oatmeal breakfast! I got so busy and before you know it it was time to go to the shower, I messed up. I was hungry, I didnt feel full so I kept eating off the plate. I go to the doctor this Tues, I hope to discuss this with him and hope he agrees to a fill. I did make my Valentines weight challenge...made 218, and hoped for 219, so that was good. Maybe that is why I did what I did?? I tend to do that to myself,,,,,do good.....mess up:crying:. I will get back on track today:thumbup: Hope all had a nice Valentines Day Patti with a smile:tt1:

    Frustrated With My Spouse

I can understand the jealous thing, I told some of our friends that after my surgery and weight loss, I hope people in our small town start talking about my husband having an affair cause they have been seeing him with a smaller woman!

    Unsupportive spouse

Oh well damn. That just hurt my feelings. Honestly, I think he may be dealing with some issues regarding your smaller frame. He isn’t used to you being smaller so he is acting out in either jealous, insecurity or both. I am sorry you have to hear that but if losing the weight makes you happy, that’s all the matter. Sometimes we have to cut the dead root to really blossom.

You know what makes me mad?

I agree, if it were as easy as that, there would be a lot thinner people and obesity would be a thing of the past. My thing is that people just don't understand how hard it is to lose weight. I hate hearing comments like it is just a matter of willpower, etc. If I had willpower, I wouldn't be where I am at now. Granted, I have been know to eat because I am stressed, or depressed. But my primary problem is just that I like food, especially things that are cruncy and salty. I eat just because I enjoy it. And, I need this tool that I am hoping to have soon to help me with that.
  12. :help: Hello All! I need your advice and opinions!!!:jaw: I just called my regular doctor yesterday to talk with her about me considering having the lapband surgery done. I trust her professional advice and opinions...however I do feel that she lacks experience with the band, considering the fact that she told me she NEVER has had a patient go through the procedure. She told me that she feels that the RISKS of the surgery outweigh *no pun intended* the LONG-TERM weightloss experience from this surgery. She said that more than likely the stomach will just stretch to compensate and you will be right were you where before... She also said that she would hate to see "someone so young" *I am 23* to go through this "drastic" procedure in order to try and lose weight... What do you all think of that? Are there any LONG-TERM bandsters that can give me some inspiration??

Is it really Gone for Good?

I think she doesnt know what she's talking about. Maybe things work differently there, but what on earth does your general practitioner have to do with your band anyway? What does it matter what she thinks? As I said, maybe its different but I just went to mine, asked for a referral to a surgeon (I knew who I wanted to see as I just went with someone a friend saw). As it happened the doctor I saw thought it was a good idea. But there wouldnt be a reason in the world to discuss my band with a general practitioner now, all my care comes from the surgeon. Its not like the gp has anything to do with my weight loss. In fact unless they happened to read right back through my file and see the copy of the referral letter and I guess a letter back from the surgeon, they wouldnt have any idea.

Is it really Gone for Good?

Veggestyle.....Hi....I am not a long time bandster. I have only been banded since June 5th. I am 36 years old and wish i would have done this when i was 23. So far i have been very successful with the band....my surgery was a breeze. Had very minimal pain. Was up and walking up and down my street at the end of the day of my surgery. Yes, there are risk BUT there are bigger risk to being obese. Lapband is helping me to enjoy life again and not be such a hermit crab. 23 is young but i have read a web page about a 13 year old having lapband....go to www.obesitycontrolcenter.com and read the testimonies of some of these people...i believe there are two 13 year olds that had the surgery. Even though your doctor says that the risk are high....i believe that risk are even higher if you life a life of obesity. Any your young enough to be able to live a long and healthy life and enjoy it being thin. I know many people that have lost hundreds of pounds from lapband. Lapband is a tool not a miracle and you will hear this from others....You have to work with the band or the band will not work for you. I have a friend that lost over 150 pounds on lapband and another that went from 200 to 113 in 8 months she is only 5'4 so 200 pounds on her was alot. Just do your research.....just remember you will the same amount of risk being obese...I am not a doctor but i new what was better for me. I have an awesome family doctor that said lapband would be a good option, especially since he knew i had failed at losing weight many many times. Hope some of this helps you to make your decision. If you have any questions please feel free to PM me. Like i said i am not a pro but i have also researched. Good Luck in your decision.

I wont lie, I hate the GYM... I will go for a 2mile walk every now and then. and go do some roller derby every once in awhile.. but other then that I just REALLY watch what I eat. I will say I need to start in the gym lifting weights as I am losing muscle tone and getting flab.. and that is not a good look.. so when my hubby gets back from his TDY we will hit the gym..

    Flab On Front Of Arms

Yep, I agree with Lisa, the low weight high rep is a good way forward... I started with this in the very early stages! I don't do them so much now, but I do go to a boxing gym which has definately helped tone my arms and given me extra strength. I think push ups or half push ups are really good for upper arms too.

    Flab On Front Of Arms

High reps, low weights does work. I've been diligently doing this since surgery and I'm seeing improvement in my arms. I don't have big muscles, but I do have definition and strength!

    Protein

I always have and always will use Isolate. For me this is because I was extremely lactose intolerant before surgery (and surgery usually makes it worse). Isolate has no lactose, which makes it the best option for me. If you look at weight lifting forums and stuff isolate is generally looked upon as better in quality than other proteins. The biggest reason (in my opinion) not to use Isolate is because it's significantly more expensive than other protein sources, and your options are much more limited (of finding a flavor/texture/drink you like). I think it may be absorbed quicker than other proteins as well but don't quote me on that. The majority of the stuff on my surgeons recommended list contains lactose, and bariatric advantage makes me sick as hell. So whey isolate is the best option for me

    Sexual stamina

Did someone say sex? Legitimate topic and a great side effect of weight loss surgery. Female 45-50 chiming in on the guy talk. (hope you don’t mind) Oh yes, libido and stamina from hell. Chased my hubby around like a teenager - It’s a win win for our significant others.
  20. I was also unable to escape the dreaded 3 week stall. Surgery date was 6/24 and I lost 20 lbs the first 2 weeks. Now I have been at the same weight for 9 days. Everyone keeps saying "hang in there, it will pass". I'm ready for it to pass!!
  21. I have been on depo shots for a year when I first started I asked about weight gain. My doc put me on a diet not really to get weight off just so that I didn't gain weight. So I have uhc and I have to do a 6 month supervised diet. I called them today and asked about the 6 month diet and they said It didn't have to be a monthly weight ( I called twice). But I didn't think about the gyno till now. So I typed all this to ask do u think I can use the year for the 6 month supervised diet?
  22. My family had Christmas pics made Sunday and I got them back today. After looking through them alone I quickly realized that NONE of the ones that I am in will be posted for anyone to see UNTIL I lose some of this stupid weight! From day one of wanting to have this surgery I have wanted it for my health...but after seeing those pics and busting out in tears when I was trying to explain to my husband that they look horrible with me in them, (he was at work) I have decided that I want to be healthy AND in better shape! I have always been thick but now Im just a huge blob......*sigh* my surgery date can't get here soon enough! :'( On a different note...I have a few good 'before' pics for my WLS album.
  23. Prior to my RNY gastric bypass surgery 5 years ago I had sleep apnea but I also had severe asthma. The sleep apnea problem went into remission within a couple months. The asthma disappeared after around 3-4 years. There was recent research performed in South Korea that showed a direct correlation between weight loss in men and improved lung function. A group of researchers led by Dr. Eun Kyung Choe from Seoul National University Hospital Healthcare System Gangnam Center, Seoul, South Korea, studied the association between abdominal obesity and lung function — their study published in PLOS One. These investigators used clinical records from about 1100 adult Korean people — 428 men — assessing them at baseline and following them for about 3 years. All were healthy at the beginning of the study, and all were non-smokers who had never smoked. As the amount of VAT (visceral adipose tissue - fat tissue located deep in the abdomen and around internal organs.) decreased in men so did both FVC (forced vital capacity) and FEV1 (1 second forced expiratory volume). These measures are used, as well as their ratio (FEV1: FVC) to help diagnose lung diseases like emphysema and chronic bronchitis. The authors suggested that the changes in lung function associated with decreases in VAT might be due to mechanical differences, e.g. less pressure on the diaphragm, and/or due to the greater propensity of the VAT to release inflammatory cytokines which could trigger systemic inflammation. https://www.acsh.org/news/2018/02/28/losing-fat-might-mean-better-breathing-12629

    Starving

It sounds like you dont have any restriction yet. It is possible for the fill to have not "kicked in" yet. Some people say they can't feel a difference until after a week. Until you get restriction, you won't have any real benefit from your band, and any weight loss you experience will come from a lot of work on your part. I am sorry you are hungry all of the time. That really sucks. If after a week, you still are starving, call your surgeon and see if he/she will agree to do another fill. Many people don't feel any real restriction until their third or fourth fill. Also, ask if you are supposed to follow any certain guidelines after a fill. Many doctors require liquids after the fill for a day or two. Mine doesn't, but I always read people talking about the liquids after a fill.
  25. I know this is a late post but I had my lap band at San Dimas Surgical Center and LOVE them. I was there this morning for a fill adjustment and I am considering having breast augmentation when I finish losing all my weight (which I'm real close)!!!
