    A Canadian "NSV" Thread

I bought a couple of belts at Zeller's the other day. These are to keep my new pants up. They are size XL. But I am having a problem with my latest NSV.:cry The trouble is that my brain has not caught up to my body and I still think of myself as being tubby. Are any of you having this mind/body disconnect? The other problem that I have at the present is that now that it is cold my old carbo-mania has returned and I want comfort - fattening - food.:hungry: Last night I ate pasta with lots of cheese and butter and broccoli.:omg:

Congratulations, Cloe!:clap2: An NSV from a jerk is still an NSV, you know. It might be an even bigger NSV because jerks don't give compliments easily. That's why they are jerks.:heh:

Okay, I have a weird NSV today. Yesterday, I had someone who I work with (for 8 years) take a double look at me ( a male), then said, 'gee, you look good today'. As Im saying thanks, I wanted to say......Oh, thanks JERK, your the one who wouldnt give me the time of day or answer my questions just last year, remember???? But I didnt. Took the NSV and ran.

    January Bandsters???

Hey all, Had my two week follow up. He's pleased with everything, including my 17lb weight loss. Said I'm to be on mushies for two weeks (I started two days ago), then go onto real foods. Said he won't even talk 'fill' yet until a month from now. So, that's fine...I'll just have to deal with it, and be sure to make wise food choices if I feel no restriction. He's keeping me out of work two more weeks, b/c of my fluctuating blood sugars, and b/c I have had such a horrible recovery period. Fine by me!!! I have had some 'small' NSV's: I can feel my jaw bone!!!!!!!!!!!! I too have buttoned some things that haven't in ages! Particularly one velvet blazer. Got on summer capris that will probably be too big...but it feels so good to get them on! Also started to rid the closet of things with tags that I've never worn, and never will, b/c they'll be too big by summer!!!

    Your little joys..

Do you have little things (NSV) that have occured that make you giggle with joy? I was showering this morning when I came up with some of my own.. I can't wait to: Be able to "fit" into one of those skinny "apartment" showers you find when traveling, at hotels. Not sticking to the shower curtain anymore. Not having to buy giant beach towels just to have that all wapped up feeling after a shower. What are some of your "goal" joys (like me), or some that have already happened to you that you would like to share with us?:clap2:

Here is my latest NSV: those jeans that I bought only three weeks ago are now too big! I can slide the damn things off without undoing them. I would be really, really pleased (in fact outta my mind with pleasure) if a) I didn't still feel like a fatty and :Banane57: if I hadn't just got them. I haven't even got the VISA bill yet!:cry I shouldn't have bought two pairs, eh. I have to buy a belt. :help: I haven't worn a belt in over a decade. Maybe even two decades.... I still wear a 3X top.

I'm loving the new tool. I do have a few concerns, I'm not eating much, I'm struggling to get my protein in, and working hard on drinking enough water - its tough! I just cannot eat more without getting sick! This morning, I made an 8 oz protein shake, could only drink 1/2 - I was about to vomit even thinking about drinking more - protein taken in about 10! My menu yesterday - Bfast 1 fried egg with cheese - ate about 3/4 lunch 1/2 cup of cottage cheese dinner 1/2 cup of refried beans (these seem to work best for me) Exercise needs to pick up for me. I've been slacking on my walking. My goals for the rest of the week 1) Focus on getting my water in 2) Increase my walking - make it a priority 3) Work on my protein! PS - another NSV - good-bye to my size 18's forever, they are just too big now, and hello to my comfortable 16's! I am wearing a pair of 16 jeans today that look darn good on me, I feel very slim & sexy in them. I haven't worn them in a while - probably 2 years? DH also can't keep his hands off me either, he keeps telling me how good I look. I love the new me! My kids keep telling us "get a room" LOL.

Hey Indianlight, great NSV's! Although...I still don't really understand the whole stone conversion! Why can't they just use pounds so us Americans can follow along?? HA HA HA! Same way with metric...who needs it? Just kidding! But, I definately understand the difference between a size 22 and a 20, so big congrats on that one! I love changing sizes! OK, I think we mostly have decided that we're OK with whatever for our next challenge so I'm going to start a Tax Day Challenge on Wednesday so put on your thinking caps and figure out what you plan to shoot for!! I have already figured out mine! This will be interesting because it will come out to be an eight week challenge with like three bonus days so...this way we'll have a little padding in case we need an extra day or two to hit our goal. I'm excited about it! It will end right around my one year bandiversary!

    Road to "TWOterville"

Hi everyone, Just checking in, everyones doing sooo well, i'm so proud of you all!! I don't think i'm going to make my challenge this time , but today I have acheived a personal challenge. I'm in the Uk and we go by stones and pounds to measure our weight and i REALLY wanted to be able to say I am 18 stone something by valentines, well today I am 18 stone 13.5lbs!! woohoo (14lbs in a stone) so although I havent managed to reach my target here, I do feel as if I've acheived something!! oh, I have a NSV!! i bought some new jeans in size 22 from my mams catalogue and as they fit I asked her to order a size 20 for me as well, they arrived last week and they FIT!!! making me realise that the size 22 is too big.....i only had them 2 weeks!! Elizabeth - I was told not to drink with my meals as it pushes food through the band and you get hungrier quicker, I have tested this and it is true! However, if I am really hungry i drink a glass of water before my meal to stop me overeating, I also wait half hour after meals before drinking. I think everyone is told something different time wise but drinking with a meal is a definite NO NO. I never drink fizzy drinks, but i had stopped that before I was banded as I noticed my tummy swelling and feeling bloated each time I drink it. oh no, I'm telling lies .....I sometimes have diet coke with Vodka!! but I put plenty ice in it to get rid of the fizz before i drink it... Good luck everyone, and I dont mind what challenge we do next...it's my 40th birthday in may so i need to set a goal for that (well secretly i'd love to be in a size 18 by then, not too bothered about weight but thats between us!! lol) Lets go for it....I love these challenges as they keep me focussed... November Bandsters!

Just remember by offer of "working out". :kiss2: Getting out of a toxic relationship can be difficult but it can also be the best thing for you. My ex and I separated after almost 21 years of marriage but we're both much happier single. We were friends for 7 years before we married and are back to being friends again. That was NOT the case the last few years of the marriage. BTW, another NSV for me. I decided my slacks were getting just too lose. (I always bought belts that had holes all the way around as I would fluctuate before banding.) Not only did I need a smaller size, I needed a pair *2* sizes smaller. They're a bit tight but since I have at last 25 pounds more to lose, I'd prefer a bit snug now. I'm now in my upper goal size so maybe I will get down to a 36 waist. (My goal was at least a 38. At my highest, I was in a 48. Last Christmas, I was in a 46 waist.) I may have to shoot for a bit lower weight as I don't think I'm going to be where I want to ultimately be in 25 pounds (that would put me at 225 - I'm 6'3"). We'll see. Now, to get motivated and hit the gym before I go to work today. It's only open a few hours on Saturday and will be closed when I get off so I have to go before if I want to get it in and I've only been once this week due to my work schedule and the hours its open. Tom

Hey Koala, I am so happy for you. You just described some of the nsv's that I hope will be coming for me too. I can't wait to go and buy cute clothes off the rack. Well done. You have worked hard for it too, the band was an aid. By the way I love Koalas too.:biggrin1: Susannah

    January Bandsters???

I drive a VW Golf that has automatic triptronic transmission. Basically when the car is in drive you can move the gearshift to the right and then push the gear shift up or down to go up or down on gears, it's like stick shift w/out the clutch. Anyways I digress, usually when I drive, my leg used to lean against it, and push the gearshift to the triptronic mode. Today I was driving home and noticed there was a 1/2" gap between my leg and the gearshift! I know it's something small, but it's the best NSV I had! Also I walked for 15 minutes today in the FREEZING cold with my dog. I'm going to try for 20 tomorrow in the afternoon when it's a little bit "warmer". Keep up the good work! :clap2:

    My first NSV

This might seem a little weird, however, it made me feel so good so I believe it is a NSV. I was sitting at the red light yesterday, and I could feel someone looking at me, and I turned to the left, and there are these 2 young boys hitting on me. The driver was practically hanging out the pasenger window trying to get my attention. Now, I'm a very happily married woman for 19 years, but let me tell you, it felt good to have these 19 yr old boys flirting with me. I know they would have just crapped thier pants had they known I was 40! LOL. I smiled back and drove away..............

    January Bandsters???

I feel the exact same way. The scales are saying "I gained" however, my clothes are saying "I've lost". I also had a NSV yesterday. I was sitting at a red light when I could feel someone looking at me, I looked over the left and there were these two young boys giving me the looks and smiling at me. LOL. Wow, even though I'm 40 and happily married for 19 years, it still felt good to have these young boys notice me. They probably would have crapped their pants had they known I was 40. LOL. Here is another NSV I had, a guy I work with came up to me yesterday and said my face looks so much thinner and not only that, my complextion looked so much smoother too. He said he could tell I was losing weight. No one from work knows I had the Lap-Band surgery, but they they know I had a hernia repair, so thats all they think. Its just nice when someone notices. It lifts my spirits.

  22. Thanks everyone!!! Yes Green....relying on NSVs is the way to go, I think! Dame J: exercise has never been a big problem for me....much to everyone's surprise I've always been quite active. These days, I do an hour and a half routine. One hour consists of cardio (ie. elliptical and/or recumbent bike) and this is followed by 30 mins of strength training (weights) and matt work (ie. leg work, ab work). I try and do this 5 times a week. In April I plan on doing aquafit as well....(I'm waiting until Apr because my schedule will allow it at that time). So, yes....the weight work (and I find the biking) has really toned the muscles.
  23. Wow! Yoda, it sounds like you are making fabulous progress :clap2: and I liked hearing Dr. Yau's advice about the plateaus, and the inches vs the pounds. It made me feel better about not having a scale and relying exclusively on NSVs. (My size 16 skinny jeans are getting a little loose and I just paid for them.:phanvan ) It's too bad I wasn't able to meet you while you were in TO.:cry It would have been fun to meet one of you in the flesh. Oh, well....... Your drive sounds horrible. The driving conditions yesterday were very bad even down here in the city and we tend to get off lightly when it comes to snowy blizzards. I'm glad that you made it here and back safely.

    September Bandsters

Karey, you're right. Keep plugging away...it will pay off eventually! I am a firm believer in weight training with a cardio program. It's worked for me before (until I quit doing it ) I am down 3 pounds from last week to 195. I haven't seen this weight in years. Actually squeeeeeeezed into a pair of 16W in the store today. I bought them! Trying them on encourages me when the scales aren't showing any loss......ooooh. Another NSV!!!! Hurray for EVERYONE!!! This group and challenge keeps me in check. Thanks y'all!
  25. you may find becca that your feet will also drop a size or 2 with your weight loss, I know I've gon up a size with my gain.... jus another nsv to look forward to.................... good luck!!
