  1. I had rny 6 months ago. Decaf was fine for me, but it tasted horrible to me (I’m sure this was a mental thing) after about a month or so when everything was healed up, I went back to regular. I have one fried that is 10 years out, one that is 5, and one that is a year and none have had any issues from “real” coffee

Post op pain - be honest

When I woke up from surgery, I felt wonderful. I'm sure it was the wonderful drugs. I didn't really have problems with gas. They had me up and walking by late afternoon and I walked about every 4 hours. ( not when sleeping however). The stitches didn't really hurt that much, and I only took the pain medication for a total of three days. The worst pain was when I would try to sleep on my side. I think I had to sleep on my back for about 10 days. so, honestly, pain was very minimal. Di

    Hoping for ESG

It's a week before I start the official pre-op diet, but today I decided to get a bit of an extra start, figured it wouldn't hurt. I have adapted the pre-op diet for this week so its not so VLCD and I will have two meal shakes instead of three. The other meal will be a meat or fish dish with vegetables with yoghurt and fruit snacks. So far I am not inclined towards any food funerals, not to say it won't happen though after all there is a week between now and 1/10/2018. I've created a diet cheatsheet from the instructions provided by the dietician, hopefully it will help me focus. I am on a facebook ESG group (three actually), one of the members asked if I was nervous. Surprisingly I am not nervous yet, but I am sure as date gets closer I will be mighty nervous. Being under certainly doesn't worry me (I been under a number of times for colonoscopies, off course not to the degree of a GA), I haven't had endoscopy before so possibly that will be the thing that makes me nervous, even though I will be out to it. There has been mixed post procedure reactions to pain/nausea that I have read on the FB groups - some seem to have lots of pain and cramping as well as nausea, for others it seems quite minimal. What will be will be I guess, I will need to make sure I have the meds for the worse that I may experience. The most discomfort I imagine is being without fluids for a couple of days, I will have infusions, but it is the extra dry mouth that concerns me. I will be taking mouth spray/lip balm and will swill water and spit it out if needed. I have dry mouth to start with as a conseqence of sjogren's syndrome, I guess the good thing I will be better prepared than most for that. I am just about to go sort out my wardrobe and the many clothes I haven't worn in sometime. Anything I am sure I won't wear again even if it may fit me it will be going in the op shop bag, the others will be arranged in order of size and I hopeful that I will get through them as I work towards my goal! Thankfully I have plenty of clothes to get me through each size. I have also been shopping already for some smaller sizes and I can remember the last time I wore a dress or a skirt, so I bought a LBD, I have never had a LBD. Not sure I will ever wear the LBD out and about (luckily it wasn't that expensive) but I would be very happy to fit into it!
  4. Really upset with myself, i have put on 5lb in 4 weeks because of food funerals . I am really lucky and only need to pre op diet for 1 week, op is on 10/10, but am really upset with myself, i cried to myself (yes I am on meds for that.) anyone else feeling or felt like this?

    Does Diabetes affect weight loss?

Hi...I had surgery on 8/29/18, I am diabetic as well, I am actually losing weight rather quickly 10 lbs in the first 7 days, 21 lbs down since surgery and my A1C was bad also, almost 10, since surgery I have come off all meds and my blood sugars are between 100-120, my endocrinologist took me off the meds. As I lose more weight and exercise my numbers should get even better. I don’t eat many carbs but berries and such a small amount, I choose less carbs because I want to have good control of my blood sugars. I wish you the best!

All I want to eat is cheese!

I’m hitting you up to say, go ahead and eat that CHEESE AND PEANUT BUTTER in moderation. Of course they count toward protein. I eat both everyday as part of my protein goal. I’m 10 pounds under goal and still losing. I’m not bragging and not happy about it. I just wanted you to know that cheese and peanut butter has not kept me from reaching goal. I’ve eaten it since the first day it appeared as an option on my plan. I just buy natural products. And, I don’t do the low fat thing, at all. I track all my food, every bite, but I don’t even care what the fat says because I’m more concerned about what is added to low fat foods. It’s usually more salt, more sugar and more chemicals and/or fillers.
  7. Hi everyone. I'm brand new here and need some good news stories. I will be having Gastric Bypass in 2 days. I chickened out 10 years ago I was afraid to not wake up from surgery. I had 3 young kids at the time. Anyway I am older now and my health is getting worse, I need to do this but I am nervous. Please just a little reassurance will go a long way.

    October 2018 Sleevers

I am scheduled 10/1. Has anyone started the pre op liquid diet? I am on day 4 and down 8lbs. It I dying on this and feel like absolute crap and need some help!!! Anyone feeling any better after starting it
  9. My sister-in-law had RNY about 10 years ago and she pretty much after the healing process went back to consuming anything she wanted to including coffee and tea but in smaller quantities. Of course there is the whole dumping syndrome that happens with RNY patients when they consume sugars and fats because the duodenum is reattached further down the intestine preventing the pancreas and gallbladder from breaking those things down efficiently. So basically the only thing that will cause us (I'm getting RNY as well) problems long term it sounds like will be foods that become sugar like white bread, refined sugars like what's used in doughnuts and certain types of fats.
  10. I had a hungry hungry heffer day yesterday. Gosh I felt like a bottomless pit!! I do feel pretty successful in navigating it though. Here's how I triumphed. I'm writing this down so that I remember it. (I did have a "slight" altercation with pita chips leftover from my birthday--but the up side is I managed to limit them to 9=1serving and combined them with a complex meal rather than just shoving them down my piehole slathered in butter or cheese--something guaranteed to make me hurl in 30 minutes or less.) 1. Managed to do an 18 hour fast yesterday. 2. Made great food choice for lunch. 3. Made an almost great food choice for dinner rather than eating a chili cheese coney with fries at the ballpark like I was craving--and which would have made me hurl in 30 minutes or less. 4. Limited my allotted popcorn at the park from 4 cups for the game to about 2 to maybe 2 1/2 cups (I guestimated on the high side at 3 cups). 5. No alcohol despite wanting a beer or a glass of wine. 6. Exceeded my fluid goals for the day mostly from water, green tea, black decaff coffee. 7. Exceeded my walking for the day with 12000+ steps + did upper body free hand weights and actually jogged for 2, 1 minute intervals. 8. Did not stop for fast food nonsense or a drink after the game like I was craving. 9. Did not eat a heavy meal cooked at home late night like I was craving. 10. Appeased myself with 2oz of PP in decaff as a "dessert/sleep aide" even though it was 11pm--that's better than a low carb breakfast taco with bacon egg and cheese!! Totals for the Day: 865 cals; 63g protein; 46g fat; 60g carbs; 11g fiber; 49g net carbs; 14g sugars Despite doing all those things I did wake up to a 2.2lb up-tick on the scale this morning. I'm sure it was cuz I had 60g of total carbs and about 49g net carbs for the day. My pattern is that I go down, hit a new low, then bounce around above that number before again stepping down to a new low. So it's a jagged, spiky stairstep in a downward progression. So I won't sweat it. I also know I have bad lymphedema in my left arm as of last night, and that may account for both pounds. So I will chill out about the scale and just live another dream day today. I'm only gonna do a 12/12 today and actually enjoy a brunch (homemade). I'll keep carbs lo-low and really munch the protein and see if that gets my hunger back in submission! Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far!!! Hugs all around!!

    Is this too much?

I totes agree, and I could drink fluids pretty freely--they just wouldn't let me. I think I still had a 4oz per hour limit at 3 days, or maybe it was still 2oz per hour? Can't remember exactly. But I do remember I'd wake up at 4:30am and start my fluid intake for the day and drink until 10 or 11pm when I went to bed.

Any sleevers start at or close to 500lb?

My heaviest was 489. I was 477 the day of surgery on 5/10/2018. As of today, roughly 4 months later, I am 359. The weight has just melted off. However, I workout five days a week with weights and walk 7 days a week. Make sure you eat plenty of protein and get plenty of fluid. It will be like a blink of an eye and you'll wake up and be thinner.

    October 2018 Sleevers

Hmm, so having a cookie over the holidays might be OK, but we need to really buckle down for the first quarter of 2019. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4422859/ (In plainer English, it appears that the speed of people's weight loss in months 3-6 is a solid predictor of how much weight they'll lose total, independent of other factors.)
  14. Thanks! It feels good knowing that even when I fall off the wagon I'm capable of getting back on again! I have made good choices in the past. It is way easier for me when good choices are also what I really want, like the tuna tartar. As for the dumplings, the restaurant only serves noodles, rice, and dumplings, so again, what I really wanted, was also the best choice. Well, they also serve greens, but not a chance in h*ll I was just going to order a plate of spinach I've done so little drinking compared to normal, lol. I was only tempted yesterday because my friend makes amazing Micheladas. I had one over the weekend and it sucked and cost $10! Cooking, since I live alone, is pretty pointless considering how much I can eat. I didn't cook just for myself much even pre WLS, cause cooking for 1 sucks. The ironic thing is, I am a pretty good cook, and actually love cooking for other people.

    Not going to be Popular...

i also eat low carb i was just responding to the fake sugar issue. i eat less than 10 grams of sugar(most days under 5) and 50 grams of carbs per day and the carbs are from my veggies. i gave up flour and all its products cause for me the issue was and is Carbs. If i consume processed carbs i get hungry not full. with my restriction i can feel full to the point of being sick but be starving in my head if i eat processed carbs. This is me and others my have no or less issues but i know how i feel when i eat them so i just dont eat them and i an so much happier now when i eat.

    I don't understand!!!

I’m so sorry your having this frustration. Was wondering if you had tried to mix it up a bit. I know what the doctor told = protein and carb but for me personally I’m doing 75% protein 15% carb 10% fat every couple of days I’m switching the fat and carb I’m 4 weeks out on the 29 th surgery was 8/29/18. 😉 you will find out what works for you best. I was 236 when I left the hospital and today I’m 217.
  17. I'm addicted to Moon Cheese (dehydrated cheese) right now. My grocery store had more flavors but Costco has 10 oz. bags of the cheddar. Sooooo good.
  18. Yum girl!!!! Those meals look delish! So does that golden tea/milk!!! Congrats on getting back on your fasting schedule and on exercising. The walk alone is VERY impressive, but then adding strength training too--you are burning the fat girlie!!! Wooohoooo! We want you to weigh again soon!!! (Now that girlie-time is almost over...) OK, so yesterday marked the end of 3, 24 hour fasts! Yippee!!! And I don't mind telling you that yesterday was hard. Oh, it was hard by the afternoon. But thank GOD for @GreenTealael's green tea mixed with the black teas I have here (Matt I'm gonna work on getting some of the ones you rec'd.) like Bigelow Peach and Celestial Seasonings ones. And of course, plenty o' decaff black coffee and tons of water. I'm happy to report success! Today I will do a 14/10 fast and eat normally, no caloric or macro restriction. I'll have 2 meals + the popcorn at the game and I may or may not have a couple of sips of a Diet Dr. Pepper. Dunno. Oh and a few peanuts--can't eat too many of those or I will feel ill, but I can handle about 8-10 max. I'm down to 157.6lbs. I never dreamed I'd wake to this whoosh. I felt like it might happen cuz I was peein' like a racehorse last night. But I'm afraid to feel excitement cuz I don't want to be disappointed in the scale going back up. I did have some poopies over the past 2 days and of course pee'd a lot as mentioned. So it's quite likely 99% fluid. But hey, I broke the 150 barrier by the end of September which was my goal!!! Wooohoooo!!! I didn't wake up a Starvin' Marvin' like I did yesterday, so think I will be fine making it through noon to 1pm on coffee and water and supplements. But boy do I have plans for lunch! I'm jonesing for my greens soup with shrimp and maybe one of my homemade meatballs (my daddy's recipe) that are lurking in the freezer all innocente. That's Spanish for innocent. hehe I make them up, cook and freeze on a tray, the bag and tag for later. They are 1oz portioned. I'm gonna make it Asian style. Hold me. Tonight we're just doing quick lettuce wraps with BH turkey and BH lacy swiss and veggies. No biggie. If I get hungry--which I won't, I'd probably splurge on a few almonds and 5 bing cherries. Ok, that's all I've got! Super thrilled but trying not to be. Last time I weight this I was a senior in high school.

    I don't understand!!!

I was having the same issue. I was almost three weeks out and lost 10 but gained 2 back. It puzzled me because I wasn’t hardly eating. Well, after I talked to my nutritionist we agreed that I needed to eat and drink more. Literally two days later I dropped 8 pounds. Maybe you should speak with your nutritionist.
  20. I have been on a low carb diet sense my initial appointment. My surgeon has a % you have to loose before he will approve you for surgery. I have lost well over mine and am down 40 lbs! I know he doesn’t do the 10 day pre op like some surgeons so I’m sure I’ll get my instructions the week before surgery. I just wanted to know what it entailed to prepare. You need to do a colon cleanse too right??
  21. I am 10 weeks today and have lost 60 pounds from surgery date and 82 pounds from heaviest pre-op weight. I increased my protein this past week and noticed a jump in weight loss this week. I’ve hit a few stalls along the way, but nothing too long. I think our bodies have a way to slow down to catch up with all these changes suddenly happening at a rapid rate. I am also a B-cup and not sure what size I will be at the end of my journey. I have already gone down 4 pant sizes; from a 28 to a 20 so far! People are really starting to notice the weight loss specially in the face. No issues with gallbladder because I had it removed over 20 years ago. The surgery team is very happy with the progress I have made so far. It’s keeping me motivated and I am not too far from my first goal of reaching 299 and then a 100 pound loss when I hit 290. Small steps lead to great victories!

Any updates for 4 months out sleevers?

Oh wow, you are tall! I am glad to see you are going for a weight that you are comfortable with too. The smallest I've ever been is 169, but I carry my weight in the lower body. I had a tiny waist, wore small tops too, but fit in a size 10 jean. LoL it may sound vain, but I dont want to lose my curves, and that is why I will settle with 160-170. Any updates for 4 months out sleevers?

Congrats!! I'm going for a weight over my doctor's idea, too. I was 150 during most of my pre-kids adult life. I figure I can add 10 lbs for each kid I had,LOL, and be good at 170. I'm 5'11" and 170 is a size 10, so I can't wait!! fingers crossed for us both.

GALS who started their journey over 300 lb+<br /> +

Highest weight ever - 408, first appt with surgeon - 386, day of surgery - 368, 10 days post op - 350. I’ve lost a shirt size, pants sizes are so screwy I was wearing 28’s through 32’s that fir before surgery. Anyone else have what I lovingly call “tree trunk legs” ? I’m slightly scared I will only lose weight from the waist up (I’m a pear with very large hips). Maybe it’s irrational, and it’s not stopping me from staying on track and doing my best
  25. Saw the surgeon yesterday. He is very pleased with my loss thus far. I am averaging about 10 lbs a month. Turns out my nutritionist and my surgeon have vastly differing ideas on how many calories I should be eating right now. Nut put me on 1K a day. Surgeon said nope, they are wrong, go to 800/day. Too bad I have been following what the Nut advised. I could have lost more weight already. Oh well, I will do it now! I am also going to add another day of working out to help break this stall I have been in since 8/28. I am very happy as this week I was able to get into a size XL shirt and I am wavering on pants sizes, but I am wearing a lot of size 18 that are too big or are getting too big. The inches are still dropping off nicely. I saw my parents for the first time after a long time this past weekend (they live out of state) and my Dad who never says anything gave me some super nice compliments. My sister also did...her words as we were trekking through the airport on a long upward ramp were along the lines of "Before the mind was willing but the body wasn't. Now your mind and body are in sync. Before we would have had to have stopped at least once and now you aren't even phased by this." What a great thing to have someone recognize.

I was there yesterday too! My appointment was at 1:30pm. And its crazy that they told you 800 calories per day, when they told me 1k yesterday, but I've got my own agenda lol.

Were you up here??? I am sorry I missed you. My appointment was at 1:15 so it seems we may have just missed each other!!! When do you see him for the 9 month? Maybe we could meet up and say hi!

    3. TakingABreak

      TakingABreak

Oh my gosh, that's a gag... we literally just missed each other! It was technically my 9 month appointment, even though I'm only 8 months post op. I missed my 6 month, so I went a month early to my 9 month. I probably won't be back up until my year appointment, but if I come sooner, I'll be sure to let you know!
