    NSV

My personal "goal" was not a weight, not really....it was a size....I wanted to wear a size 8! I went shopping last week because my size 8's are too big. That's right, now I'm wearing a size 6! Shocking. I'm 51, and I wasn't wearing a size 6 in highschool. I don't remember EVER wearing a size 6, I'm serious. I am certain I went from a 6x in elementary school to a size 12 in jr. high!!! It feels good, I look at them and am sure there is NO WAY I can actually slip into them, but lo' and behold, they fit. Of course, I thought the same thing about the size 8's, I didn't think I could really put them on!! I love my sleeve.

    First NSV!

Wuhuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu CONGRATULATIONS!!! It is always so exciting to see such hard "evidence" of one's successes especially when you have been working so hard!! And the scale can sometimes flipflop, but no one can dispute the CLOTHES. Nice work~~~~!!!!!!1 Out of curiosity, what is an NSV??
  5. Hello future sleevers; Sounds like you are all preop and have the jitters. You are normal in your feelings but that does not mean you should be backing out or rescheduling unless you have not done your homework or do not trust your surgeon? Do you trust your surgeon? You understand there are some risks, limited risks. Do you know that WLS is for you? If you answer yes, read on. Know why you are doing this VSG surgery. Write down the top 10 reasons you are doing this surgery so that you can look back on hard days ahead. Yes, this journey is not without bumps or a thought of "what have I done." I will start you off and you all are to add another reason. VSG surgery is for me becasue: 1. I was overweight - I had tried so many other diets and could never keep the weight off for long periods of time. Yes, I really tried too. 2. I wanted to be healthy for me and healthy to enjoy my family. My kids hug me so tight and I can play on the floor with kids easily now. 3. I wanted to walk up stairs without huffing and panting 4. I wanted to wear a skirt or dress without shorts underneath so I do not get a rash on my thighs 5. I wanted to be happier when I look in the mirror and not have to listen to the angry voice of "such a pretty face, if you could only lose some weight" 6. I wanted to reduce my risk from future co-morbitities, cancers and other issues of overweight people 7. I knew I can do this, if given a fighting chance. I am willing to change and I can conquer my bad habits to ensure maintanance weight goal. 8. No, this is not cheating - I need this surgery to save me from me. Helped me be a winner I know I am inside. Let me look like I felt deep down, beautiful. Others now see me as I was always, if they had taken the time to know me. First impressions are so much easier now. 9. I want to have better chances at so many things on vacation or dream about doing someday. A helicoptor tour (weight limit of 250), a horse back ride, a roller coaster, a ballon ride, skydive, a bike ride on the beach. Wear a normal bathing suit on a public beach without shorts and a tshirt on all the time. 10. I wanted to not hide in the back of pictures or be the one always taking the picture. Lastly - scroll down and read the NSV (non scale victory) section to inspire you. Good luck my furture sleevers. I have no regrets.
  6. Attached is a picture showing my beginning jean size (26W) and my current jeans size (10P). I saw a similar picture to this on the forum and thought I would do one, too. There is 108 pounds difference in weight. My waist has dropped from 46.5" to 32". (still TOO BIG) My hips have dropped from 48" to 36". I think I will leave these hanging on the back of the door for inspiration.

    Week 3 discouragement

I'd like to be able to change my stats to read starting pant size to current pant size instead of starting/current weight. My job is all about metrics so I understand the need to collect and analyze numbers but we really need to not obsess. There isn't a perfect weight nor is there a perfect size. This is about health and the quality of life...including how we look and how others see us. I keep telling myself I won't look at these threads but I do because I want to try to do what others are doing by saying to stop focusing on the scale. You are only three weeks out scarlet. How long have you been overweight? Years, right? It won't come off overnight. And even small losses are still losses. I never lost more than three pounds in a single week and yet I still managed to lose over 150 lbs. Relax...and enjoy the NSVs and whatever positive experiences you have while you are going through this change. Good luck.
  8. Im so stinking proud of myself because I too ate NO CANDY last night even when left alone with it And yes newat52 I think it's a NSV!!!
  9. it took 50 pounds for me to see the difference unless I look at photos --then I can see the difference on a monthly basis. A few days ago I saw my self naked and I had to double take---it's a NSV to notice it on yourself.
  10. Hi everyone, I've not been keeping up on the tread and just read everything that has been posted since Sept 1. I am 2 lbs from my Sept challenge (next week is deadline for me) and seem to be stuck! Ugh! I think it comes off 5 lbs at a time and the last 5 came off my boobs I'm sure. I did have a great NSV last weekend. I went on my first carnival ride in over 12 years! The man loading people onto the ride didn't even look at me like I wouldn't fit, the harness went over my head and locked down on me with room to spare. It was the funnest ride I've had in like, forever! Keep up the great work everyone, I wish we had updates from everyone who was chatting in April/May. Maybe they will find their way back.
  11. Drews...You are a hottie!! Janey, I will make sure my DW gets your chicken recipe. That sounds really yummy. Chicken is my favorite, regardless if I have a band or not. marz88, WTG on your NSV and your weight loss. It is really great to hear about your progress. missnikki, It's great to hear from you. Hope you post more often. LindaV, WHAT? You lost? You are just amazing!! Congratulations and tell you DH to take you out more often. Love the Turkey Take Off Challenge. I'm in. Need to think about the amount of weight. May go with 15 lbs instead of 20. Will think about it and let you all know for the commitment factor. GOBBLE GOBBLE
  12. Okay, in the interest of full disclosure, I should tell you that my "skinny" jeans are 1x with an elastic/drawstring waist. At my heaviest, I would only admit to a size 2x, but honestly, even those were getting snug. When I lost my first 20 pounds, I tried on these 1x jeans and they were still uncomfortably tight in the thighs and caboose area. So, I've been reluctant to try on anything smaller in the past month. Even though I only lost 2 pounds in December, I've added pilates to my walking routine. When I tried on the "skinny" jeans today, not only did they slide easily over my hips, but I actually had to tighten the drawstring to keep them up! I guess my body has become smaller even though the scale hasn't reflected a dramatic loss. I was beginning to lose some of my enthusiasm recently, but this small NSV has given me renewed hope. Happy New Year Everybody!

    My First NSV

    Great NSV! Congrats to you!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
  14. This is too funny! I don't own any sweatshirts and needed something warm to wear outside this morning to shovel snow. So I raided my husband's closet hoping he'd have an oversized sweatshirt I could squeeze into. Not only did I find a sweatshirt but I didn't have to 'squeeze'! It fits me 'perfectly' (but it is a bit big on him). Ten or 15 more pounds and I can fit in his heavy flannel shirts. Woohoo! The look on his face when he finally 'noticed' I was wearing his shirt was priceless! .

I Can Fit In My Old 13 Size Jeans! Nsv

Liliana, thank you for the encouragement, I went shopping with my daughter and bought a size 8 pair of slacks! This is a great NSV moment. I have been in a stall since Xmas and have been losing inches. I guess my body is readjusting.LOL
  16. after 100 lb weight loss, I wanted new picture for drivers license talked to clerk about my wt loss and WLS - he told me he had gastric bypass 5 years ago (small world)- and except for about 5-10 lbs he sometimes teeters with, he's doing great (water, Protein et al - doing terrific) - he lost 170 lbs and he looked great even though clerk didn't have the sleeve, its nice to see someone "long term" post WLS - continue to be successful i have heard some people do gain all their weight back, i guess that can happen to any of us (not to me of course!!! ) he called other clerk over, showed my old license to her - they both couldn't believe it was me!!! If i do say so myself ( and I do!!!) my new picture is pretty darn good - all modesty aside i DO look great - feel great too

    Friday NSV Thread

NSVs this week -- * Decided a week ago to kick my new dark chocolate habit -- and haven't had a single bite all week. * Hubby didn't die. Not kidding. Really. * I finally had time to take a shower. (And that's what they call burying the lead.)
  18. This is a wonderful NSV!! Congrats to you!!!
  19. I had a great NSV last week. I went out to lunch with 5 other people and only one person knew I had this surgery. One of the guys that work directly for me ask me if I was full since I only got clam chowder Soup in a bowl. I told him and the group that yes I was and had a big smile. I doubt he has figured it out yet unless others have told him. Chris

Almost 3 weeks PO and gaining?

Definitely sounds like a stall. Some people don't gain during the stall, they just sit at their current weight during it. Me? I gain. And by gain, I mean anywhere from 3-5 pounds. It's infuriating. Then I lose and gain the same 2-3 pounds over and over until one day I get on the scale and see that I lost 5-6 pounds. That's when I know the stall broke. It's going to happen, a lot. So start focusing on your NSVs (Non Scale Victories). Those tell the story of what your body is actually doing better than the scale can.

    My Fabulous NSV

That is a wonderful nsv. When you move into the category where people see you as thin/skinny without ever knowing that you used to be heavy. Congratulations, gingerbug. You are doing wonderful . . . especially at a little over a year out. I agree exercise makes all the difference in the world, without it I would have exceeded my goal, I probably would have been 20 to 30 pounds away from goal.
  22. Jachut

How did you decide on a goal weight?

I've got a funny story for you about that. I nearly had a punch up with an old bat at weight watchers once, she was doing the weighing and measuring. She told me I was 5ft 9. I'm not, I'm 5ft 10. I didnt like being called 5ft 9 becuase it meant I was even more overweight than I thought I was, lol. So I made her remeasure me. 5ft 9. Six freaking times, same answer, 5ft 9. So I was fatter and shorter than I thought. Great. Anyway, I assumed I'd shrunk an inch. Getting obese had compressed my spine or something. Anyway skip forward to a few years later and there I am in the surgeon's office having my first official weigh and measure. 5ft 9. Six months later, another weight and measure and WTF? I'm 5ft 10 again. I started rabbiting on about NSV's and said what a great health benefit, I've uncompressed my spine. No, love, she says (we call each other Love here). When you're at your heaviest you have a big bum. You cant stand straight against the wall to be measured because of your bum, nearly everyone leans back slightly. You havent grown, your bum's just not in the way of the wall anymore! ROFLMAO! Now if THAT isnt an NSV I dont know what is.

A NSV is a Non-Scale Victory. And there will be plenty for all of us.

    my day today

congrats on being able to enjoy shopping - great NSV
  25. Most often it is not how much you are eating - but what you are eating - you may not be eating enough - but try upping your protein - limiting your sugar and carbs to a bare minimum - and drink, drink drink lots of H20 - that may help - if you don't eat enough you won't lose weight - your body starts holding on for dear life - remember this is a lifetime journey - it doesn't happen overnight - so enjoy all the small nsv you are sure to be experienceing -and enjoy the ride down - it is all good - and you will have many stalls along the way - just take them as giving your body time to adjust - you will start losing again soon. Just make sure you aren't eating absently - or picking - or taking in liquid calories... write down for a day or 2 everything that goes in your mouth - and you may see any problems that are there - hang in t here Anne:smile2:
