NSV- not recognized
OKCPirate replied to LisaMergs's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@@LisaMergs - One of my prouder NSV's was at last year's Meet the Teacher Night. For several years I could not fit in the dang desks. No problem the last two years. Got to love this stuff. -
More NSV - Jeans I haven't been able to wear since LAST fall are now comfortable on the verge of loose. Soft foods are harder than I expected, so still slogging away with the shakes for protein, but it's nice to have variety. My kinesiology student daughter is developing a workout plan for me LOL.

So last night was "Meet the Teacher" night at my youngest two kids High school. Hubby was out of town, so I was splitting up their schedules and doing double duty. First of all- I'm wiped out this am lol. Their school is huge and spread out- and I was running between classes to get to each teacher like a bat out of hell. The NSV's- 1)I did it! Easily!!! From one end of campus to the other, up and down flights of stairs, happily moving through the throngs of people and not ever needing a "rest break" due to pain or inability to walk that much; 2)I ran across tons of people I haven't seen since I began my journey and as I'm waving hello to them, I get a blank look- and then I realized they didn't recognize me!!! Love it!!! Even sick, I was very involved in my community so believe me, there were TONS of people I know that this occurred with last night. Most, upon realizing it was me, were shocked and pleased for me, and it was, plain and simply, exciting and motivating. The downside, I have a cousin I grew up with and live close to- two of our kids are the same age and go to school together. To this day she has not said one word to me about my transformation- nor do I now expect her to. We sat next to each other in a class last night and as one mom friend was congratulating me and gushing over my loss, my cousin just sat there and said zilch. Jealously? Perhaps. But at this moment in time I have decided ***k it- leopards, spots you know? Finally- all that extra running and chasing for 3 hours last night on top my regular workout? scale dropped 2 lbs this am! 2/9 Surgery Date Team
JennsJourney replied to Positive44's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My NSV is that I just got back from a cruise and I was really worried about eating. I was mindful but indulged some too. And the results were...I LOST A LB!!!! YAY! I'm now down 107 lbs and in a size 14! What??? I never thought I would get there. And my other NSV was that I actually like our photos from our cruise. I have never bought one before but this one I really liked. And btw, my husband is down 90 lbs too by just following my post-op diet. I'M SO PROUD OF YOU ALL! -
Couple of my NSV's this week.... Took a minute to check the blood pressure......all is well and I've been off all blood pressure meds for two months now. Was also having early morning coffee. Took me a few minutes to actually wake up....realized that in the dark I'd grabbed an old t-shirt that I'd been saving. Didn't think it'd fit as it's an athletic cut 2XL. Well....it would seem that it fit with room to spare. Made my day start off with a confident feeling. This time last year I as wearing 5xl and 6xl shirts. So damn grateful.

NSV - Sweatshirt
Dub replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Very cool NSV. I was hugely relieved when I could finally....finally shop in virtually any store and buy clothes. So much more variety and way cheaper than the big & tall stores......or in my case, the bigger & taller stores. No longer have to fear losing my bags on air travel. If it happens.....no worries.....a quick trip to any mall and clothes are replaced. Very cool NSV. Hope you get well quickly. -

Super NSV, but remember that a sweatshirt is inappropriate interview attire. -

what a great NSV. buying off the rack in a pinch. -
I attended an out of town conference this weekend. Since it was in the 90s, I left the sweater I usually take to conferences in my room (and left my wool wrap at home). Of course, the conference center was freezing. It finally occurred to me I could buy one of the sweatshirts they had available on the merchandise table because it would fit! I still got sick but at least I got a new hoodie sweatshirt.

I'm at my 3-week stall. How long does it last?
CLN.BK replied to Hiraeth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Hiraeth I am exercising. It's one of my NSVs I go to the gym everyday and do 1 hour of cardio and 30 minutes of strength training. Effective the 15th, I will be working out with a personal trainer 3 days a week. Like you, I was expecting the stall, so I'm not concerned. I weigh myself every morning, but I'm not discouraged by the lack of weight loss. The weight will come off when its ready. I've read where some 3wk stalls lasted a month or so. I *hope* mine won't be that long, but there's nothing I can do other than to follow my plan. -
I'm at my 3-week stall. How long does it last?
CLN.BK replied to Hiraeth's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@Hiraeth I was 3 wks. post-op as of Friday, so I'm a day behind you. My stall started 10 days after surgery, and I'm still stalled. I've lost nearly 2" from my waist and have had several other NSVs during this time though. Like you, my weight is fluctuating within 2 lbs. -

#1: Stop watching those YouTube videos! If you go looking for negativity, you'll find it and stress yourself out needlessly. #2: Find something positive to focus on. (Obvious, I know). There are tons of posts on this site alone that are inspiring. One of my favorites is What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back" Sorry, I don't know how to make it a link for you to go directly to, but you can search for it. Before my surgery, it was a reminder of all of the reasons why I chose to make such drastic changes to my body. There are others about achieving goals and NSVs that are so encouraging and hopeful. They can all remind you of the wonderful life you have to look forward to. #3: I know the liquid diet is hard. But it doesn't last forever. And when you get tempted or feel overwhelmed, refer back to #2. Remember why this decision was so important for you to make. #4: Call a friend, go for a walk, make a list of all of the rewards you want to give yourself when you reach certain milestones, do something nice for yourself today. You're almost there. You can do this. And you are worth it. Write those words on post-it notes and cover every available surface of your home, your car, your office . . . the dog if you have one. And good luck! You've got this. -
What Are Some Things You Can't Wait for POST OP?
ahappycamper replied to Denise73's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I've actually been making a point to think about these things the last few days. I'd been feeling discouraged from the six month waiting period. Things felt real and exciting and immediate when I decided to get sleeved, but the waiting period sucked the excitement and immediacy out of it. In an attempt to boost myself, I've been making a (long) mental list of NSV I'm looking forward to. - Not being too embarrassed by my size to fly for fear I might be kicked off. - Not needing a seat belt extender on flights. - Being able to keep up with my niece and nephew. - No knee pain when going up stairs. - Being pain free enough to properly work out. I've always been fat, but I was a small-fat before (not a death-fat like I am now (my phrasing here is tongue-in-cheek, referencing the "morbidly obese" title many are given and popular among the fat acceptance crowd who taught me to lose most of my body shame, so yay! Also, I'm blunt and a have an odd sense of humor), and when I was a small-fat, I still had the energy to work out the way I like. Until I'm half-dead on the floor with wobbly legs and as red as a tomato. I miss pushing my physical limits. - To walk up 4 flights of stairs without being winded for 15 minutes after. - To see what my body shape really is beyond "cute blob". I've been overweight since I was 9 years old, so I don't know what I look like. - To keep the arm rest at the movie theater down comfortably. - When I'm ready, to be able to get pregnant more easily and have a successful and safe pregnancy. - To go sky diving. - To go parasailing. - To go zip lining. - To run marathons in honor of those I love who are no longer here. - So I don't have to wonder if someone complimenting me or asking me for my number while I'm out is only doing so to make fun of me. - So I can live. Live longer, but actually LIVE instead of just exist. - So I can shed the old me that was built out of shame and trauma and find the real me, someone outgoing, warm, and optimistic hidden inside. - So I can stop buying wide calf boots and finally buy boots I like. So, since I've lost 90 lbs, I've been enjoying wearing flirty skirts all summer. Knowing that fall is around the bend, I wondered what size jeans I'd be in now. Off to the mall for some size- tries I went. Grabbed 16's- nope! 14's--NOPE!!! 12's--you betcha!!! <--- me doing a happy dance!!! That's from a solid size 24!!!!. Sorry- it's humid here and my hair was messy from changing tops in the dressing room lol. Ladies, this skirt is from a company called Haystacks. It is reversible!!. These are the two prints on this skirt. Most importantly, no waist band, super cute, and very forgiving as you lose weight. This is a large I'm wearing- bought it while I was still an 18/16 and still fits beautifully. They are made in Michigan, and also have an online shop. The reversible print ones are called "Switchstacks". A bit pricey at $52 but being reversible I get tons of wear out of them. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Was thinking about non scale victories the other day while on my thinking chair...yup, the toilet and it dawned on me. My best NSV so far is fitting in a regular stall... No more having to use the handicap stalls for me. I can "think" like the regular folks in the tiny stalls that are everywhere. No longer do I have to wait just because someone else is in the big stall. It's the little pleasures like this that make me thankful for making the decision I did.
