When does the Swelling to go down
erinshel replied to hannahj914's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery yesterday morning. I took the anti nausau meds in hospital and slept on and off for a bit longer there. I was okay with it since I didnt have much planned for yesterday anyway  I had really bad gas pains last night that pretty much stayed in my ribs and upper stomach area. My stomach is still pushed out a bit and I know I still have quite a bit of gas inside. Walking around the house last night helped a lot....Although it did cause me to burp a lot. Today is seems to be coming otu the other end (sorry if thats TMI). I feel SOOO much better today although I still have some pain in the incission area and am still a bit tired. Im hoping the rest of the gas pain goes away quickly, so we'll see. Good luck with your surgery! -
I'm 22. I'm 5 days post op and 250 pounds with no other health risks. I am Barely feeling any pain I haven't bed on medication since I left the hospital and I'm so happy. TMI! I am so happy I did this, I have so much further to go and I hope to loose another 100 this year and with the sleeve and faith and persistence I will get there. Okay, I have a question about constipation. I wont get too graphic but ever since I tried adding Protein shakes into my daily diet (I'm on the 6 month supervised diet), I seem to get constipated. I feel like I've tried everything from drinking more Water, adding more Fiber, eating more fruits and veggies, stool softeners and Metamucil. It gets a little better but still there. Anyone else have issues from adding protein? And now, I'm worried about how it will be after surgery when it's all about protein. Any help/insights?

Timeline for Revision process?
OmaJ replied to Star Dust's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had Lapband revision with Gastric bypass on 9/5/17. Decided with my Dr. that it was the best course to take in April. I wanted to wait until after the summer, as our daughter was graduating high school and then college late August. Did 90 day program with Dr. & Nutritionist, then they submitted to insurance after (BCBS Fed.) Did all the tests (labs, CXR, EKG, ECHO per my Cardiologist) on specific timeline. Probably about a month or close to it before I found out that I was approved. We set my surgery date before beginning 90 day program. Was anxious to hear if I was getting approval from insurance, and I really think my calling customer service with them helped expedite the process. I also spoke to the manager at my Dr.s office. Hope this helps & not TMI [emoji4] Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G870A using BariatricPal mobile app -

Have you spoken to your surgeon or NUT about eating veggies if they are steamed and EXTREMELY soft? I was eating veggies at 3 weeks post-op, but I made sure that they were super-soft. A few bites and full. I did stay away from extremely fibrous veggies like celery or asparagus, but broccoli and carrots were fine as long as I only ate the florets and again, made sure they were super soft. If you do get clearance for some veggies, as with any food, take a bite and wait a few minutes to see how your sleeve accepts it before taking more. I also obsessed over the scale in the beginning, and I've quickly come to the realization that our weight changes throughout the day by a few ounces to even a pound or two. For instance I learned quickly that you weight about a pound or so more after a shower, even after you dry off because your skin retains some of the moisture..lol...I always freaked out about that. The best thing to do for me was to weigh in once a week, and try to do it at the exact same time of day. I chose to do it right when I wake up (after using the restroom...lol...tmi I know but that liquid can actually be enough to impact the scale). This allowed me to not be so obsessive throughout the day. Since starting this, and making the decision to make my diet consist of whole foods, the only thing I count anymore is Protein, as I feel as though everything else is coming from healthy sources of food. I workout 5 times a week also, and that has helped me tremendously as well. It keeps my mind busy and helps me stay positive knowing I'm doing the right things to succeed so that, at the end of the week when I weigh, even if it's not as much loss as I want to see, I know I'm making the right choices it motivates me to continue on that path. Try some new things. Take it slow. Whenever you have questions, speak with your surgeon/NUT. They are there to help you. Don't wait for things to get "back to normal". Create your own normal. Do that and you'll find YOUR OWN path to success!! Best of luck!

Help, Anyone Have The Same Problem?
summerseeker replied to jthebutterfly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes this was me too, its miserable. You need to go to the emergency room or contact your team and see if you are dehydrated, if you are they will put you on a drip. There are other things that will eventually make you feel better. Biotin spray is brilliant for that awful dry mouth You need to get some anti nausea medication, I take 2 a day, it helped a lot You need to up your liquids everyday, even if its only a little, once you get to your quota, this helps you feel better. The iron in the multivitamin may make you nauseous, I dropped it from my regime. I have never put it back into my vitamin regime because I have never needed it to date. So if this worked for me, it is not proven, I would have tried anything, I was so miserable. We all keep the large amount of acid our stomachs that we had before surgery, this does not help with nausea. Sleep in a recliner if you have one. I didn't, so I put a large book under the top of my bed and bought a wedge pillow Your first bowel movement is a doozy and TMI ALERT, I had to resort to rubber gloves, others have had to go to the ER and let the nurses deal with it. Once you get more liquid and food in you will manage better, plus then you will be able to get some constipation meds. As this medication pulls water into your bowel you can not take it yet. It would make you more dehydrated. I hope you feel better fast -
Well today has been full of some (not so great) adventures. First, I couldn't get out of bed this morning (just super sleepy) so I ended up sleeping until 11am. Drank about 1.5 ounces of Water before getting in the shower. The combination of no water in 10 hours + hot shower left me dizzy, nauseated, and shaky. That was TERRIBLE. But I did drink a 16 oz bottle of water in less than an hour afterwards, so my tummy is definitely healing. Then, I went on some errands with my mom. I brought water with me because of what happened this morning, but nothing else. Realized at 2pm that I'd had no Protein and no calories, so we stopped at a convenience store to see if they had Muscle Milk or something similar. They had Monster Milk, but I didn't want to try it because of the caffeine, so I grabbed a low fat chocolate milk instead. Drank about a third of it and my tummy did NOT like it. It looks like I may be somewhat lactose intolerant after all (I forgot that the milk I drank yesterday was Fairlife, thus lactose-free). In other news, (sorry for the TMI) - I pooped!

Pregnancy before or after surgery?
malpal8629 replied to malpal8629's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And while it's probably a little TMI...I've always been extremely regular so I'm assuming that means I'm ovulating normally as well. I've never gotten off birth control, and I use the Nuvaring so there's not even an issue of missing a day on the pill. I honestly think I could get pregnant if we tried, but it's more of a question of whether I should. I'm just so conflicted. -
Hello everyone, my name is Alicia and I had my VGS surgery on March 7 2013 so I just completed my 2nd week. So far I have lost twenty pounds. I am very excited and feel truly blessed with this surgery. I decided to post because I don't know any one that has had the sleeve besides me and I would like to hear from others about their experiences (I would also like to share mines also) My sister and one of my best friends had the gastric bypass but I'm finding that their experiences are different than mine. I'm still on my high liquid protein/puree stage of the diet and will be on that until April 11th. I'm looking forward to getting to know every one better. I do have a few questions and I would really appreciate it if any one can share their experiences. Do any of you still have food cravings? I know it's head hunger lol. I don't have any hunger pains or anything during my cravings. I'm just making sure I'm not going crazy still craving foods. Also has any one had any issues with being lactose intolerant? My RD told me not to worry about that because most sleeve patients don't become lactose intolerant. I'm starting to think that's not the case with me. I become very gassy and bloated when I drink any protein shake milk. . . even nonfat pudding. I also have been getting headaches for the past two days. I do a lot of walking and I'm wondering if I'm not getting enough fuel in my body. Also some times I feel full and then other times I can drink a protein shake or have a pudding and an hour later my body or maybe it's my head, is telling me that I need more fuel in my body. One last thing and I hope it's not to much TMI, in the beginning is it normal not to have a bowel movement for a few days. I think I'm freaking out more about this than anything. Thank you for taking the time to read my post and again I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better.

A little TMI but here we go. Day 7-17 Post op I had my monthly. Then for a few days I had no bleeding or anything. Anyways the past few days I have been noticing blood when I wipe I am a month post op now. Last night I went to qipe and there was a lot of blood, as much as I would have during my monthly. I have also been sore in my abdomen between my large incision and belly button and have been feeling unwell overall. I dont have a doctor so it would pretty much be hospital or walk in clinic. I was also out of country for the operation, so my surgeon cant really help me. Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Yes my Protein is low because my surgeons office said in recovery mode to just do what you can. I'm supposed to just either eat mushy foods or drink Protein shakes every 2 hours and that's where I've been ending up. It's SO frustrating that the scale hasn't moved in 6 days when I see people saying they lost 30 lbs the first few weeks. I know this is a long road and I need to relax and not compare it's just so so hard! I do feel like I drink more than I urinate out (TMI) but perhaps I am simply retaining Water?? Hey yall... sorry for the TMI but I need some suggestions. I literally have not had a bowel movement since a day before my surgery 8 days ago... I am still on full liquid so have been doing protein shakes and yogurt etc., but nothing! I have reduced my percocet intake to 1 every 4 to 6 hours and I know that can really contribute too. I have used a stool softener/laxative for two days now and nothing. I called my doc and he recommended milk of magnesia but I don't think I can stomach that stuff. Anyone else struggle with this right after surgery and have any suggestions? I am drinking Celebrate ENS 4 in 1 shakes which have fiber in them too but clearly not enough :/.

Hi my dear friends, I am doing well! I will admit the first 30 hours after surgery were hard. I felt much better once I was able to take oral pain meds. I got home last night from the hospital, took a pain pill, and passed out. It's amazing what a day does make. I felt 95% better today, and it's only going to get better from here. I love my "sippie" cups, baby spoons and bowls. (TMI section) Also, I need to watch out for any lower gas. I can't trust any! Thank goodness for "always with wings". They are lining the rear of all my undies. I'm not weighing myself, since I was pumped full of fluids. However, I did loose 10 pounds during the pre-op. I was pretty happy with that! Well, it's time to start walking around the house again. My family is on a mission to make sure I get my 10 minutes an hour in! Thanks all for your thoughts, prayers and concerns. I will update more tomorrow. Hugs, JoAnne

I had gastric bypass June 24...I have atleast 2 to 3 BM's a day...Is this normal?

I hope this isn't tmi, but I just had my band put in Friday, 12-9-16. The 1st day I was in a lot of pain from the gases in my chest, I was able to drink a lot though. But starting yesterday, I can barely drink small sips of water. I have to burp after every sip and still sometimes vomit white foam. I'm so thirsty but I keep throwing it up. And when I'm sleeping, I wake up choking. Is there anything I can do to fix these things? Right now I'm asking myself what have I done..any suggestions are appreciated. Need some solutions for gout flare up...
iamsoworthit replied to Wayne Hunt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wayne, I suffer from gout too. I am almost a year out and have had several bad episodes. I take Allopurinol twice a day but still get flairs. I am not allowed to take Indocin but I am able to take colchicine (even tho it gives me diarrhea- tmi). Ask your dr about colchicine because it isn't an NSAID and shouldn't be on your restriction list. I would suggest not taking it on an empty stomach tho. My dr is a Mayo Clinic physician and they are extremely conservative. Also, make sure you are drinking your water! I have been able to figure out ny pattern on gout. It is almost always a direct result of too many days of just barely getting 64 ounces or stress. Try and get 80 or 90 ounces of Water because it does help. Finally, I did have one really bad attack right before my mom passed away (I was under a ton of stress). It was in both feet even up in my ankles. The colchicine didn't touch it and I had no relief for 5 days. My dr prescribed steroids and it went away a day later. That is an option in extreme cases. I was taking leftover pain medication and it didn't even touch the pain. Sorry you are dealing with gout. It is by far the worst pain I have ever experienced. PM me if you need any more ideas. -
Curious, Did This Happen To You?... No 3 Week Stall, But A Gain!
happy1957 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am curious, maybe a little disappointed, but I promised myself I would NEVER write about a stall. Well technically, I'm not. This is my three week weigh in. I expected no or very little loss based on what I have read here. I started solids last Wednesday and knew I've been consuming more calories, maybe 500-800 daily. My weigh in this morning shows a 2 lb gain. Has this happened to others? I know I am a slow loser. I lost 5.5 lbs during my liquid diet and 8.5 over the next two weeks. I read where many lose upwards of 25 lbs during that time. I am patient, but I can't imagine a gain.. Has anyone else experienced this? My Dr did make me throw away my hydrochlorothiazide which is a diuretic, could this be the cause? I have consumed a lot of ham/cheese roll ups this week as a source of Protein and low calories, maybe the salt is causing Fluid retention? (TMI) Also having a constipation issue. Using benefiber without any real relieve yet. Any suggestions? . Words of encouragement anyone ? -
Constipation 4 days out. End of lucky streak.
emtscott54 replied to emtscott54's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well let's just throw the cards on the table and talk poo. TMI spoiler alert! I thought I was going to die. I began drinking Water and then sent wife out to get miralax. I will never know the pain of child birth but I believe my experience may give me some insight. I am going to double down on water and call doc tomorrow. I got bloodshot eyes from the ordeal. -
I missed counted and tried my pureed stage too early. I hope I did not cause any problems. TMI I have not had a bowel movement since I did that. I still have trouble sleeping and some pain in the from and back in the same section. I am glad I did this but did not prepared for the problems that have happen. Hoping that I did not cause aproblem with my sleeve. back to the liquid that one day of pureed may have caused a problem OMG. I am scared and alone.

I drink body fortress starwberry whey Protein. I get it from walmart. I also like EAS ready mixed shakes they have smooth taste and bot brands are low in carbs and u dont get the gritty taste. the BMs come when you get more on solids. your body has to adjust to surgery, swelling etc. TMI but i got really loose bowels about a week or so after surgery with little to no warning. Once I started eating it went back to normal for me.
