1. Go figure. It's exhausting to keep up with all of this. Being my own human guinnie pig, I have taken it down to an austere 600 calories, just barely getting my Protein in, carbs under 30, no salt...you know...all of that, and today on the scale I have gained 2 pounds overnight! I about cried. I certainly did not eat 7,000 excess calories, so it had to Water and/or poo, but I am not constipated at all. It's hard being my own hall monitor, but I volunteered for this. So, if you gained 3 pounds, you know you did not consume 12,500 excess calories. keep you head up and stay on your program.

Fill Dr in Houston TX?

My friend's surgeon agreed to do my fills and he's charging less than the fills centers and another dr wanted to charge me for the first visit. I have to pay $150 for each visit/adjustment and the fill center wanted to charge me $350 for the first visit and $160 for every visit/adjustment after that. Bariatric Surgery Treatment | Gastric bypass surgery | Lap Band Surgery Houston, Texas | Sleeve Gastrectomy Texas I got 1 cc and he made me drink a bottle of Water before I left to make sure it wasn't too tight. After about 4 sips I had to go throw that water up and he had to take half my fill back out again so I have only .5 cc's in right now. I was really adamant before I got there that I was gonna push for at least 3 cc's to start with and thought it was pretty funny that 1 cc was too tight LOL I think I've been able to eat so much because I've been drinking with my meals and I thought the only reason why you're not supposed to is because it might be painful BUT he told me today that drinking with meals actually makes the food mushy so it doesn't stay in the little pouch as long and negates the purpose of the band. I'm glad to know that and I'll stop drinking with meals now and hopefully get back to losing weight!

self pay options

I pursued lap band surgery almost 2 years ago. Jumped through all the hoops, and then 2 weeks before I thought I would be having surgery, insurance sent a letter denying me. Instead of appealing the decision, I let it drop, thinking I could do the weight loss on my own. I have regretted it ever since. I wish I would have appealed it and argued with them til the end. My insurance company stopped covering weight loss surgery as of April 1st, so there is no hope for me to have financial assistance from them now. My only option is to pay out of pocket. Maybe re-fi the house, borrow against the 401K, I don't know. I don't even know what costs estimates are for the surgery. Can people give me a general ideas of costs? I realize it will vary by state but it will give me an idea of what I could be looking at.

You don't need to lose weight...

I really get where you are coming from here... As much as people are trying to be kind and supportive, it is still a tad bit stupid telling someone they look good for the 'sake' of it! At just over 6mths out, I am not even half way, very close, but not quite there... anyways, in work I continue to get lovely comments about how good I look and how healthy I look... Nice! I was speaking to a friend, who is really skinny; tiny, tiny, tiny lady who is also lovely... She commented on me weight loss, calling me the amazing shrinking lady and we both chuckled; I told her that I am frustrated 'cos I haven't hit my half way goal and she said 'Bloody hell Coops, you can't lose another 3+ stone, 'cos you'll have a skinny little body and a massive head!' Well that was a lesson in itself... yea, I can lose it cos there is fat to lose... so the moral of the story... just take the compliment and don't discuss where in the weight loss process I am!!
5. When I stalled for 3 weeks in a row (and each week I did lose but it was so little to me that is a stall) - I started logging my foods religiously, started incorporating more healthy carbs to my diet, and started bumping up my workouts. It worked. I've lost 10 Lbs in the 2 weeks that followed. I haven't lost any since that 10 lbs but it's because of mother nature, which is fine. Enjoy your successes! I honestly think this is the first time in my life that I've gone this amount of time with such consistent weight loss, besides my band where I was losing for the first 5 months. I'm almost there now and I really don't see me changing anything up. Keep in mind too, you will just have to find the winning combo for you as far as diet and exercise. Also, most everyone goes through a stall at 3 weeks out, so you might just need to wait it out. Good luck!

Soooo frustrated!!

So I recently had posted that I had lost weight after being stuck for quite awhile. I was extremely excited but since then I gained 2 pounds. Why does it feel like I'm so close to my goal of 125 but it doesnt seem like I can get there?? I know reaching 140 is a HUGE accomplishment but I want to reach my goal by my 2 year mark April 11. HELP!!!!!! Sent from my iPod touch using LapBandTalk
7.

This is awesome! I called insurance today and initially the lady said gastric bypass is not covered as my husband's employer didn't pick up the rider, but when I asked about lap band she said "Isn't that the same??" Ummmmm...... no! I don't want bypass, I want the lap band. Trying to determine if that means no weight loss surgery at all or just no bypass. I am hoping that if it is nothing at all I can piggyback it on with getting my hiatal hernia taken care of. Heck, they can check for more endo while they're in there too. This gives me hope that I can work something out. For those of you who have done this, did the DR let you pay in installments or was it one big amount?

8. Thanks for offering to send me the letter. I have contacted two of my doctors now and haven't run into any problems w/the process so far. One of my docs, just had a form to fill out on his site. The other I just called and she said I could come in to fill out their form or fax in a signed request. So, looks like getting the info is pretty easy. And, I'm having it all sent to myself just so I know what it is and then we can just send the best weights to insurance. Who would've ever thought my 'best' weights would be the highest ones. Or, that I wish I could be just one inch shorter. LOL

Denied... UHC

Don't give up just yet....if you have an associated co-mobility such as diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol then you have an argument with your provider. Also pick up the book "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies" there is a section on what to do when the insurance company doesn't agree with your physican decision. My BMI was less than your and I was just banded with insurance approval this Monday. I am sore as all get out, but do NOT regret my decision. Good luck.

to all the self pay people

There are a lot less hoops if you self-pay but there are still hoops. I had to do a nutritional consult, a psych eval, an EKG, an Upper GI, a Cardiac Stress Test, labs and a physical. The physical usually includes a PAP and Mammogram but I had them done less than a year ago so they accepted those instead of demanding new ones. What tests you get depends on your pre-op symptoms. I probably didn't really need the Stress Test as it turns out. But no 3, 6 or 12 month diet, no classes, no documentation of 2 - 5 years of weights, no having to submit a list co-morbidities and other documentation of medical necessity, etc. I could have had surgery 2-3 weeks after my first surgical consult if I'd wanted to.

The BS Psychologist

I'm at the end of my lap band journey... I have completed all 6 months of dr. visits, dietician, and done the psych eval. The entire visit with the psychologist was, to me, a bunch of bullshit. We talked for about 40 minutes before the 700 question test, yes, 700 questions! and he basically just went over the same stuff the dietician went over. Exercise and crap like that. But, he told me something that really bugged me. He told me that for me to be this weight that I must consume 4500 calories a day. I told him that I didn't agree and that I know I didn't consume that. He did that stupid thing doctors do when they dismiss you... and I knew at that point that he probably thought I was some lieing fat person who really consumes more than what they say they do, but I'm not. After leaving I immediately decided to keep track of what I eat. I wasn't going to change a single thing either. I'm going to eat just how I normally eat as not to change the results at all. So far after three days, I average between 2,000 and 2,600 calories a day. Yesterday was a big calorie day with the 2600, because I had that stupid chinese buffet, but again, I didn't want to not eat what I would normally eat simply because I knew I was writing it all down. I even put the stupid mayo pack I used on my chic-fil-a sandwhich! and the cup of hot coco I drank.. can you believe that was 150 calories?? yep!, but I put that down too. I still have 4 more days left to go, but I have a feeling they will all be about this amount, because this is what I eat on a normal basis. When I'm done with this, I'm going to show him and say "see, not all morbidly obese people sit around pigging out all day eating 4-5 thousand calories a day". I'm so sick of people having this impression of obese people!! I sit right next to a vending machine at work and have never even gotten anything out of it! But, I'm sure people just assume that. My biggest worry is, if I'm 294 pounds and consume 2,000-2600 calories a day, will I lose much taking that down to 1200-1500 a day with the lap band? And, what if my metabolism is just big time slow?? and that's causing it... Ugg...
13. hello it has been a month sence my last fill and i have not losted any weight has this happened to any of you i am so worried about going in to get a fill not knowing what they will say i am worried that my pouch as streched any advice on what to do before i go get a fill i have had three fills is this normal
14. I am a slow loser myself. I've only lost about 34 pounds since my surgery on March 15. Everybody is different. My piece of advice is don't weigh yourself everyday. I don't even weigh myself once a week any more. I only do it when I go to the doctor's office. As I go about every six weeks I see the dramatic loss and it makes me feel much better. Also, don't fret about the amount. Think of it this way: at least you've lost weight! Every pound is a victory.
15. My starting weight is 286. I had surgery on Sep 16. The first 2-3 weeks I lost 30 lbs. Ever since I have been only losing if I'm lucky 1-2 lbs. What gives man. Am I doing something wrong? I only eat 3 times a. Day and its all meat and cheese.

sad

My best friend said she thought I was "wimping out" because I want to get banded. It turns out that she was afraid, for me and for herself. I guess she thought I'd change once I start losing weight. But now she'sgoing with me to the seminar in a week. I hope your support person will come around. There are lots of wonderful people here who have given great suggestions. good luck to you. Debbie

I like what phyl808 and Devotion had to say. It's not what you're doing TO your body it's what you're doing FOR your body. If you're tryiing to save your own life, prolong it or improve its quality, don't waste any more time!! How can anyone make a judgement like that if they haven't walked in your shoes. My family gave me a hard time. So I told them I changed my mind and wasn't going to do it just so they would leave me alone. I showed up for Christmas banded, with a 21 pound weight loss, in perfect health and HAPPY. they all changed their minds and now support me. They were just afraid, and I spared them the fret and worry.

I have to be honest though, I don't many in home shows because.of my weight insecurities. So I'm looking forward to working on self confidence as the weight comes off and I'm more active. My sales are 95% website orders and people I work with and 5% book/basket parties. I sell an average of $500-$700 a month so anxious to see how much I improve once I start losing the weight and not embarrassed of my weight.

shelly22 NO (direct answer to your question ) how are you feeling - how is your weight loss going these past couple of months??? I had 85% of my big tummy removed thats the "standard" amount that most people have removed i have heard comments/complaints from OP who think their doc didn't take out enough tummy never the other way around you think doc took too much tummy out??? is that what you think happened to you??? I kindof doubt he took too much out i was wrong ONCE though, i thought i had made a mistake!!! good luck kathy
20. Apparently being post op RNY is a mosquito repellent. This weekend I was at an outdoor party and after dark everyone (except me!) was going nuts about mosquitos and drenching themselves in bug spray. Previously, as much as I hated the idea of spraying toxic chemicals on myself, I would eventually cave if they were really unbearable and douse myself as well. However- this time I hardly noticed an issue with them at all!!! I’m not sure what it is (possible malabsorption/malnutrition) that made me so unattractive to them, but I’ll take it! 😂😂

That's really good weight loss! If I hit 3 lbs a week I'm super happy. You're doing great!
22. Thanks all, I did a # on myself yesterday. I had a brial shower to attend, italian food....well....I was able to eat all my food! I was stupid not to have had my oatmeal breakfast! I got so busy and before you know it it was time to go to the shower, I messed up. I was hungry, I didnt feel full so I kept eating off the plate. I go to the doctor this Tues, I hope to discuss this with him and hope he agrees to a fill. I did make my Valentines weight challenge...made 218, and hoped for 219, so that was good. Maybe that is why I did what I did?? I tend to do that to myself,,,,,do good.....mess up:crying:. I will get back on track today:thumbup: Hope all had a nice Valentines Day Patti with a smile:tt1:

Been having a weight stall for 2 - 3 months. I am about 20lbs away from my goal. Is the weight stall normal? Before Surgery: 225 Current Weight: 160 Goal Weight: 140
25. I wasn;t allowed to work out for the first 8 months due to lower back lose hip knee problems and a couple of other reasons I was having some treatment for stuff so couldn't; even go swimming till I had recovered. I pretty much stayed in my house other than going to hospital for them months I didn;t even walk up and down my stairs much. I never did work out much even when I could I am very bad at that lol I started off swimming once a week for about a hour I would be done when I started feeling the pull ache and tiredness of my abdomen. a couple of months of that I added in going to the gym 2 nights a week for 30mins of mostly weight training very little cardio. can't use certain machines due to the back hip and knees. I slacked right off mid nov and didn't go at all for dec or jan and so far not feb either. total lazy butt here! I also don't calorie count don't weigh myself don't weigh food out don't obsess or stress out about any of it never have.
