Holy Protein Cow! Cottage Cheese!
Jazzy4Health replied to sistasassy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In addition to the CC and Gr Yogurt (yum), ricotta cheese is a whopper in the protein department. It is whey protein so people who normally have difficulty with lactose may have better success with it. I eat it paired with fruit slices, or just a touch of splenda, or even SF jello. If it is part of a meal rather than a sweet, I put veggies, particularly cukes and/or broccoli, but a couple of my friends - not even on diets - now love it too and say they put it with whatever they love. By the way, the Gr yogurt is good w/ a touch of splenda or a fruit as well. They are all awesome for calcium too, so it is a double bonus to me! -

Greek yogurt goes well with savoury stuff - try grating up a little cucumber (skin and all) to put in it and making your own cucumber dipping sauce. Serve with sliced fresh salad veges (carrot, celery, capsicum) and you have lunch! YUM! -

What Is Your Pre Op Diet?
vanessabalderas replied to DreamsOfSkinny's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am allowed 4-5 shakes a day, up to 900 calories. The shakes are through Bariatric Advantage and I can mix in fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, and skim milk but cannot eat any of those foods alone - strictly shakes -
I went in for a fill 2 days ago. I was at 6cc's in a 9cc band. I had been doing great and seemed to find my sweet spot, but I did start to get hungry and eat more a week prior to the fill. So, my doctor filled me up to 6.6cc's As usual he had me drink a bottle of water and eat yogurt before I left the office to make sure I wasn't too tight. I was fine. I went home and had some soup for dinner with no problem. Well, the next day I went to work and had a protein shake for breakfast then soup for lunch. Next thing I know, I could not keep my lunch down. Later that night I had soup for dinner and could not keep that down. I was starving, so I tried broth, tea, jello, etc...could not keep any of it down. So here I am another day and not able to keep anything down. I called the doctor and he wants to see if I can keep down fluids today and then go in for unfill tomorrow. My fear is that he will unfill me too much and I will start gaining weight. I have worked so hard and my weight loss has been slow and steady...I would hate to fall back any in my progress. I am hoping that maybe since I was just filled, it just needs time to adjust and maybe between now and tomorrow I can actually keep things down. Has anyone had this type of problem ? What happend? Anu suggestions?

I've only used Unjury so far just because I like it a lot. The chocolate is really good, & I use the unflavored in everything. I put it in soups, pudding, yogurt. I even made protein pops with it tonight. I'm going to get the chicken soup flavor tomorrow & see how that is.

Am I supposed to be able to eat 5-6 ounces of yogurt in one sitting? Or is that too much?

Protein Powder Suggestions
BigSue replied to Jnfinney's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Before my surgery, I ordered a lot of different samples of protein powder, and IdealFit was my favorite. I love mixing the birthday cake with yogurt, and the chocolate brownie, chocolate coconut, and mint chocolate are good to drink. I have my eye on the chocolate cherry and butter pecan, but unfortunately, those aren't available in sample sizes and I'm not sure I want to commit to a huge tub without tasting it first. I also got some interesting flavors from 1up Nutrition, Northbound Nutrition (Waves of Whey), KetoShop, and Black Magic Supply. They all have single-serving samples so you don't have to buy a whole tub. -
I used prosource no carb for the first week since I had that in the hospital. It wasn't bad but it's really thick and viscus. However if you mix it with herbal tea or Water, it's wasn't bad. I tried several different types before surgery. I ended up doing a mix of the prosource, premixed orgain organics & CVS brand whey powder mixed with almond milk or sometimes greek yogurt. I strongly recommend getting a few single serving sample packs of a variety of different ones and trying them out to see which ones you like before committing.

Hi. I am 3.5 weeks out, and I have been having alot of problems eating and drinking. I was put on meats, cheese, soft veggies...pretty much anything since day 6. I think it was too early. I have been nauseaus and not wanting food (or drinks) I was taken off shakes (which I can't get down anyway) and yogurt. My question is, i know that we are supposed to eat yogurt with more protein than sugar, but since I'm having so much trouble, would it hurt to eat one that has 13g sugar and 11g protein? Even if just until I can eat better? Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app

My rule of thumb with yogurt was a 1 to 1 ratio, protein to carbs. So it sounds like yours is pretty good. The first month (to me) is about healing, not weight loss, so do what you need to. When you are on solid foods, it will be much easier to transition to higher protein/lower carb choices.

when i go for a fill the dr makes us drink 20 oz of Water before we leave the office. i take it a step further and bring a yogurt with me and eat that before i leave the office. i would say have the dr remove all the fill that he added the last time PLUS .1 cc. the reason i suggest that is you sound like you were to tight to begin with. i think going with a little less than you had originally makes sense. i am sorry you are having such troubles, it is the WORST to be to tight. take it easy till monday!

I've been banded for 2 1/2 years and I've encountered an issue in the last two weeks: So for the two years, I always "got stuck" 4 - 5 times a week and I blamed it on myself--eating too much, not paying attention, eating too fast. Right after New Years, it got worse and for two days I couldn't take anything in without getting stuck except yogurt, cottage cheese, and liquids. Last week I suddenly realized I hadn't gotten 'sick' in over two weeks--AND I can eat more without being satiated and nothing seems to get stuck--not to mention the fact that I gained 5 pounds since before Christmas! (And I had only gained back 2 pounds from my lowest weight). I made an appointment for a fill for this Thursday, January 28th, but thought I'd check with you guys to see if anything like this ever happened to anyone. Is it possible my Band was twisted and has straightened out? (Hopefully) I have to tell you that I've only got 4 cc in my 14 cc band. What do you think??

How long were you on liquids before you went to the mushie stage?
princess_n_thep replied to divaliciousdee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
No mushies allowed on my diet. I had 1 week of straight liquids, then 2nd week of creamies, then added yogurt to all of that on the 3rd week. 4th week was straight to solids -
What will I need post-op?
Nancy6015 replied to Chele6378's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure none of your regular meds are extended release or sustained release, if they are, have your doctor write new Rx. Get a pill crusher for the meds you take, and mix the crushed meds with sugar free pudding. I find that boullion and V-8 juice taste pretty good after all the sweet stuff I have been eating! oatmeal and Cream of Wheat (both thinned with skim milk) are good to have on hand. Low fat yogurt, too. My doctor had me on liquids for 2 weeks before surgery and 2 weeks after surgery ... tomorrow is the end of those 4 weeks! -
What To Eat First Week After Surgery?
losetobemeagain replied to Willow216's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you like me will be on mushy's as soon as you have your leak test. I ate alot of refried Beans melt some cheese on it, Liz told me I could put some chicken in a blender and eat that, bake some ricotta cheese topped with some mozzerella cheese. it is so hard to explain how little you will be able to eat two bites from a baby spoon and I was done, so you will have to get most of your Protein in with shakes, she allowed me to have smoothies since we are on mushies I added greek yogurt with calorie countdown milk and sugar free torani syrups for flavor, they allowed me to count my smooties or Protein Shakes toward my fluids also, yogurt went down real nice and didn't cause me any pain. I still don't get all my protein in there was days when I did but the majority of the days I didn't. you have to really concentrate on it, it can be done but you have to remain conscience of it. I have a video of the hospital if you want to see it PM me your email and I'll send it to you... -
Pre-op diet/post-op diet
Bufflehead replied to 8petals's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon requires being on a 48 hr clear diet before surgery. I know I could have Jello, chicken broth, cranberry/apple juice, basically anything clear. Does anyone have suggestions of other things I can consume? Tea, beef broth, miso broth, G2, Vitamin Water Zero, Propel Zero. You can get protein powders that mix well with water -- Unjury chicken soup, Syntrax Nectar fruit or tea flavors. You can buy individual size packets of those, which would probably make sense if you don't have an extended clear liquids diet post-op. What I really need suggestions for is my post-op diet. What are the best things to consume post-op that are filled with Protein? On full liquid phase: protein shakes Puree phase: Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese (Google Eggface ricotta bake for a great recipe), scrambled or poached eggs, refried beans with melted cheese. I made a lot of pureed casserole (minus the high carb ingredients) type things. Basically I would take meat, add a flavorful sauce, puree, put in a tiny little ramekin and heat in the microwave maybe with a little melted cheese on top. So, salmon with dill sauce, chicken breast with marinara sauce & mozzarella cheese, tuna with low fat roquefort dressing & swiss cheese, turkey with peanut satay sauce & jack cheese, ground bison with low carb bbq sauce & cheddar cheese -- you can do whatever works for you. How long was it until you could even try a solid? Everything will depend on the food progression your team gives you. I am sure your dietitian will give you more info as your date gets closer, but if you are curious now, call them up and ask if they can email you a copy of your post-op eating guidelines, or if you can stop by and pick up a copy. My team has extremely conservative guidelines, so I was on full liquids for four weeks, purees for four weeks, and then soft foods (easily cut with a fork) for four months. but how do I check my private messages? Someone messaged me last night, and now I can't find it to respond lol. I use the website, not the app, version of bariatric pal so unfortunately I can't help you here. Hopefully someone else can step in and provide an answer. -
Protein Drink Ideas?
KevinsBabyGirl85 replied to Erin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Try the syntrax nectars they are tasty!!! Also you could blend some fruit, ice, milk, and protein powder.....makes the best smoothie!! Also try unflavored protein powder in pudding or yogurt!!! -
I tried one, it was whey protein but the flavor was apple and I hated it! I also cant stand milk, but only cows milk. I make my shakes out of vanilla and coconut almond milk and mix a lil yogurt in and its pretty good.

Any Teachers Who Have Been/getting Sleeved!
Treed2 replied to mommeof3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I eat a packet of tuna for lunch or a yogurt. Then later I will eat a piece of string cheese or one of the 100 calorie cottage cheese. I also still drink shakes from Costco. They have 30 grams of protein in one shake. -
I had my 4th fill 2 weeks ago when i went into my Dr.'s office and had only lost 2lbs. i am now filled with 2.5cc in a 10cc band. My restriction is good but i CAN NOT eat breakfast. I can only drink a protein shake or smoothie and sometimes get away with a yogurt or cottage cheese. Yet, as my day goes on i am able to eat more solid food and soups with pieces in them, and by the end of the day i can get in apx. 3 oz of meat and 2 oz. of veggies. Does anyone else have this daily constriction problem ?

Worried about dumping syndrome with gastric bypass....advice...thoughts?
amylynns replied to lanaml2015's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've had some mild dumping. My heart races, I get sweaty and then about 5 minutes later, I'm in the restroom. BUT...I avoid whatever I ate mistakenly so it doesn't happen again. Like ice cream, or frozen yogurt I just cannot do. I've tried sugar free also, but my new stomach just doesn't like it. For me, it's high sugar foods or high fat that can be a problem typically. And like I said, as long as I avoid those foods I'm good! I'm 7 months out and have only had that happen a handful of times. In the beginning I was nauseous a lot, but not dumping. -

I have a question
BobScott replied to marissahealthiernewme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I got home from the hospital, and the pain was still a big part of my day, I looked at my situation and realized that my life needed to be different. I was initially embarrassed that I couldn't do it on my own and needed the surgery, and this embarrassment was motivation to not squander this opportunity to hit the "Reset Button" on my habits. I never have looked to be able to re-introduce bad foods, but instead I have looked for replacement foods, and activities. This is the new Football Sunday spread. Lol. Once I started losing the weight, I fell in love with the new "superpower" of a small stomach! I never wanted to have the craving monster come back in my life, so I have convinced myself that my addiction to crap needed to be treated as the disease it is. So I have sworn off of all trigger foods, and basically anything non-healthy. No breads, candy, Pasta, etc. I have never heard of an alcoholic program that has a goal of reintroducing social drinking.. lol. So why does our program have the final goal of being able to eat some of the foods that put us in trouble in the first place? Once you can find your "feel good" foods, things get much easier. For me it was home made Soups, yogurts, Fish, pickles, and almonds. Once you decide to eat to live and not live to eat, it just gets easier. One day at a time, the future is so bright! Surgery was Feb23rd this year... I was 381 and now 214 as of this morning. Down 167lbs Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
