  1. I have purchased the sistema BPA free storage system today ( I got them from Waitrose in the uk as they are on offer - half price ) for my small meals after having the sleeve.     Anyone from Bristol or Essex in UK?

    I am OK with the shakes, I did Lighter Life and Exante before, and knowing that it is a must will see me through. Eating puree'd food is a bit minging though, so I will need to talk with the dietician about whether I can just live on Heinz tomato Soup and Yogurts haha I am really nervous though. Scared it wont work, scared it will work so well that eating will be something I dread. Crazy eh

    July Sleevers! Let's chat!

    My surgery date is July 16th. My doc usually require 2 weeks liquid diet before the surgery but he told me I can start on July 6 due to the holiday. Ive already been experimenting with different things. unjury powder (chicken Soup flavor), Premier Protein rtd, muscle milk rtd, pure Protein Powder. and I have some of those swanson flavor infused broths (which I need to get some of that unjury non flavor protein powder to mix in). Yogurt etc
  4. That's great...I'm on day 3 of my two week plan. Protein drink for bfast and lunch..for..up to 3 snacks/day of yogurt, protein bar, or protein drink, and a dinner with 6 Oz of lean meat, leafy vegs,..non starch.

  6. Can you crush and put it in some yogurt? Anything to not have to taste the drug. I never had to crush any pills. Of course my thyroid med is a liquid pill like vitamin e.

    Feel lost...pleas help!

    Most of my meals consist of chicken or fish. Breakfast is usually fat free yogurt and a few sliced strawberries, lunch usual my deconstructed sandwich, no bread or chicken breast with a small side salad (very small), dinner is a little more adventurous I still do chicken or a turkey patty with fresh steam veggies. I'll add spaghetti sauce or cheese to change flavor. Ive been on a regular diet for a while, but still keeping it simple. Lots of boiled egg whites, avocado and cheese. These are used as add in and help amp up my protein. Thank goodness to the person who recommended Quest protein bars. I love you because they are fantastic.

    Consipation

    Unfortunately chronic constipation is a very common condition post-op. I never really cured it during my losing phase, but I was able to manage it with Smooth Move, Mira-Lax, and Milk of Magnesia on rotation and Colace every day. I also took daily probiotics and ate yogurt every day, but I'm not sure if they had any effect. Now that I'm in maintenance and my intake of fruits has increased, my constipation is becoming less of a problem.

    How accurate is your calorie counting?

    Whether you track or not, you should definitely get a kitchen scale. I don't track my food anymore (did back when I was dieting over the years pre-op). But I still weigh a lot of my foods daily, just to measure out servings or partial servings. This was ESPECIALLY true in my early days post-op when I wasn't supposed to eat more than 2 oz. at a time. I would weight out 2 oz. of cottage cheese or whatever. Not for tracking purposes, just to be sure I didn't eat too much at once. Now that I'm 9 months out, I weigh food just to get correct serving sizes. Like I always pack a little Kashi Cereal or granola to add to my afternoon yogurt at work. I measure out 13 grams (1/4 serving) of that. First of all, because it's carbs and I do try to be mindful of carbs, even though I don't track them. And second of all, because loose stuff like that is hard to eyeball the right amount. I also use my food scale every single day when I add soy milk to my coffee to make sure I'm only adding 2 oz. Any more or less than that and it doesn't taste right!
  10. Also try not to eat heavily processed foods or " diet foods" go for all natural ....I make my own shakes using Greek yogurt and fresh fruit and stevia

    5 month post op diet

    My surgeon Dr. Marema has instructed me to be eating 700-800 calories at seven weeks out post op. A typical day for me is getting up at 730 having some hot tea with milk and a small teaspoon of sugar, a babybel cheese and a fruit cup of peaches at 9, a protein shake at 11, two ounces of deli meat with a small tomato at one, tuna salad with a couple slices of cucumber at four then my yogurt with a tapioca pudding no sugar added at seven thirty. This obviously changes from day to day but just wanted to give an example

    Am I eating not eating enough?!

    OK gotcha.... Everyone is different... I was eating that amount of calories for a while. My number just recently increased up to 800. I believe my low calorie intake was due to not being able to tolerate anything really.... Meat in particular. So I was eating light Greek yogurt with unflavored Unjury giving me 30 grams of protein per yogurt cup... I had 2 of those a day given me my daily minimum of 60grams. Inbetween that I would have some type of fruit or veggie..... From what Ive read a stall is no weight loss for 3-4 weeks..... And I didn't hit any... The longest period I had euthanize weight loss was about a week. On June 27th I will 5 months post op and down 80 since surgery and including my 3 month preop diet I'm down 100. I started at 293. Surgery weight was 273 and my current weight is 193. My goal was 155. I would post pics but I don't know how to on posts lol. If you go to my profile they should pop up... I think I might look too small at that weight because I am 5'8". The only advice I can give is to listen to your body, aim for 60-80 grams of protein and get in 48-64 ounces of water. My doc suggested that per serving my fat intake be 3 grams or less and my sugar be 5 grams or less.....I believe the week I didn't lose anything was because that week those numbers increased... So for the long post lol... Was trying to get everything out lmao ???? good luck on your journey ????

    One month Sleeveiversary...

    I put in a little more than half a scoop to light Greek yogurt. Witgbthose 2 combined that gives me a total of 30 grams of protein for tgat one yogurt cup...... I would have one more for lunch that gives me my daily minimum of 60 grams for protein.

    @@angelinnc32, ​Did you go thru a program to get the surgery? They should have provided you with all the information. Biggest thing is to stay hydrated and get your Protein in. I suppose right now you can do soft foods. Greek yogurt is good...Cottage cheese...anything high protein, low fat , low carb. Just listen to your stomach. It will let you know when it's full and if something isn't agreeing with you. Check into the other forums that talk about diet. They'll have some great ideas.

  16. Hello, I was sleeved June 1st, so I am 15 days out from surgery. I am still mostly on a liquid diet, I just added in a little bit of plain yogurt and no sugar added apple sauce. I have lost 9.6lbs since surgery, I feel like this is kind of low. Anyway, the point of this post: I am eating about 350 calories a day; is this too low, should I be eating more? Could this be why I am not losing more weight? I do hit my protein goal every day and always drink at least 60oz of water. I don't feel deprived or hungry really, so I have never wanted to eat more. What do you guys think? Am I not eating enough? Could the low calorie intake be why I am not losing as quickly or dramatically as most Sleevers do? Or is this normal? Thanks!!!
  17. Wow my first "meal" 2 weeks after my sleeve. "MUSHIES" was 1 ounce of Krab with a dab of plain Greek yogurt with spices and four cooked carrot slices and I'm full! 20 calories!!! But it was lovely after 4 weeks of liquids!!

    Feel lost...pleas help!

    Great loss. I had my first post op visit today (11 days post on). I had lost only 10 pounds since surgery but 26 pounds prior to surgery. I sure hope I can say almost 50 pounds when I get 2 months out! My mushy food starts Friday. Here are suggestions I was given - fat free refried beans with low fat melted cheese on top, mashed potatoes with protein powder mixed in, baked fish, tuna salad with very little low fat mayo, chicken salad with low fat mayo, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. (These are all mushy food phase but some of them will still work at your stage). I was told chicken thigh is better tolerated than chicken breast because it is more moist. Cook up some in your crockpot. Try Pinterest and search for gastric bypass or weight loss recipes. If you have been to this website yet - check it out - www.the world according to egg face.com. she has some great recipes. Look under the section about Bites which is a lot of mini muffin size crustless quiches. Definitely call your NUT and try to find a support group. People there can help with some foods. If you come up with anything awesome, be sure to let us know! Take heart. You are doing great.

    Salem/Portland Oregon sleevers?

    That's awesome, I've heard good things about Dr Patterson, she was one of the first we checked out, but we just couldn't afford it. I know right? I only have 7 more days! my nerves are really kicking in! I have had a two week liquid protein shake, plus 1 light greek yogurt per day, and I'm on day 7 now. Mainly this Pre Op is to shrink the liver, but I am starting out at the largest I have every been so every pound I lose now will hopefully help! Does your surgeon require a Pre Op or liquid diet? You are going to do so great with your surgery! Good Luck (:

    Back to Work

    I'm taking four weeks off because I work in a lab and it demands for me to do a lot of walking/standing and mental work... which I'd find hard to stay focused since I'd probably be thinking about how to not let anyone else in the lab know that I had the surgery. My program has me on food levels... so for now I'm eating 1/4 cup of yogurt. Not enough for continuous movement.
  21. What does YOUR bari program recommend about alcohol? (My program is very conservative and recommends NO ALCOHOL FOR LIFE [hard to do--but worth it.] Many programs say to wait 6 months; others say one year.) "Stretching" your sleeve is really the least of your worries in the priority of things. I know you said you were "joking" about drinking beers, but in case the joking becomes reality-- Only YOU can answer the question about your choice of using alcohol in your forever WLS life. Maybe also consider that we as WLS patients can be susceptible to an array of transfer addictions (alcohol being one of the biggies) as replacements to our strong "addictions" we've had to food our whole lives. Just be smart and know yourself... Also depends how far out you are from surgery. As others have said, do you really want to "spend" your calories and carbs on alcohol that has no nutritional value? The odds are good that it will affect your weight loss. Some resume drinking immediately after surgery (you see many of them here on BP). Some wait beyond one year after surgery when they have established and fully practiced their new eating habits, and if choosing alcohol in their WLS life is what they want to do, they can plan to occasionally (3-4 times/month) include it in their eating plan. There are TONS of great non-alcoholic, non-carbonated, refreshing summer drinks out there we can create that are fun and WLS-friendly too! I love challenging myself to come up with new and different ones. For instance, I recently found a simple cantalope smoothie recipe made with non-fat Greek yogurt. Ice-cold and so refreshing...filled the glass with summer shaped ice cubes, put in a little drink umbrella, and sat on the patio under a BIG umbrella--Bliss! Just offering a different perspective...

Peanuts (just watch your portion...they can be high calorie/fat if you go overboard) Light and fit greek yogurt Light string cheese (I like sargentos) Protein shakes (pre-mixed) Oh also, I love treats from BariatricChoice.com like protein hot chocolate, protein Fruit drinks, protein chips, etc. Just watch the carbs.
  23. Those first couple weeks are very, VERY hard. I did not eat with my family during that time. It was just too hard emotionally for me. I would sit in another room with my broth, or greek yogurt, or whatever. In fact, my mom and mother in law were there alternating making meals and taking care of the kids and I almost resented them making my favorite meals and sitting there and eating in front of me (silly in retrospect I know). It does get better, I promise! Now I will cook a meal that has a component I can eat. I won't be able to eat everything, but I make sure there is at least one thing I can eat with them. I want to try to maintain as much "normalcy" in our family mealtime as possible. But definitely not during those first couple of weeks. That is just about surviving.

    Protein got really really hard for me too, i had to buy the unflavored one and just add it to things, like my yogurt, that helps a lot! now i can get it all in without having to fill myself to the gills!

    5wk post-op no loss for 3wks

    i hit a stall right at 3 weeks, tomorrow will be 4 weeks for me and the scale dropped two pounds this morning. i had to start eating more for sure to get it to drop, pushing those meals was hard for me also i increased my gym time. and more protein! ended up getting the unflavored unjury and added it to my yogurt i think it helped! just be patient! your sleeve will work just give your body time to adjust!
