    Recovery time???

Meredith, Unlike most people, I had a hard time post-op. I had surgery on March 19th and here it is 9 days later and I'm just starting to feel better. I took all last week off and then I decided to take another week. I thought for sure I would have bounced right back but I didn't. Good luck
  2. Anyone else going through this? I've been working on this since August! I finally have a date (June 25th) and all of a sudden I am freaking out!! No solid food for 6 weeks???????!?

    Blood in Stool

I unfortunately got my first hemorroid about 2 weeks post surgery. I actually had bad diarrhea for almost 3 weeks post surgery which can cause them too. Not pleasant as it hurt like mad for a few days. All better now but the booger is still kinda there. YUCK! I hope you are ok.

    HELP - paniced husband

Please be sure her Dr. / nutritionist gives you some directions. I wasn't allow pureed food until three weeks post-op. Here's what my instructions were: Week one: Clear liquids only - sugar free Jello is fine. Week two: full liquids i.e. Protein shakes. Week three: pureed food, refried Beans and soft cooked Cereal made very thin. Week four: start to work in regular food as tolerated. The thing is to go slow and carefully during the healing process. You are a sweetheart! God bless you!

    Post op 3 1/2 weeks

There is no "we" in post-op bariatric eating unless you are talking to patients of the same surgeon being advised by the same dietitian. My instructions may be very different from yours -- you need to check in with your own team. My instructions were: no veggies until 8 weeks post op. Even then, green/low carb veggies only, they had to be cooked enough so that they were soft enough to cut easily with a fork, and no more than 1 oz per meal (the other 1-2 oz of the meal had to be high protein food such as soft meat or scrambled eggs).
  6. I am 19 wks pregnant and I was banded in 2007. As of today I have lost 20lbs since the begining of my pregnancy! I have not had an unfill and kinda reluctant to get one. At my last doctors appt. my dr. told me I am not getting enough calories in and I'm starting to get scared! I dont want anything to effect the health of myself or the baby. So far they say the baby is growing fine which is great! But, does anybody have any suggestions on what I should eat or If I should get an unfill or not?

    Liquid diet day 2 sucks!

GrandDaddy is so right!!! And I made a list of all the reasons why I wanted to lose Weight, and every time I wanted to eat I read my list. And I probably read that list 5-6 times an hour those first few days. I just busied myself when I felt the head hunger try and take over. The rewards are so much greater, I dropped 16 pounds on my 2 week pre-op. And I was so proud I did it. You ca do it to. I have faith in you ????good luck ????

    Very slow weight loss?

HI Monica. So after talking to several nutritionists specialized in bariatrics, and researching, I now made peace with the rate of my weight loss. Somebody here posted a table of weight ranges according to age and height. This also helped. I am 61 will be 62 in two months. Have had already major weightloss with my lap band years ago, so this is my second surgery. All nutritionists said these two details are a big factor that will affect my weight loss. I have now lost a total of 33 pounds in 3 months. My lab tests just came in and I am in the absolute normal range, which means no more cholesterol. No more diabetes. No more high blood pressure. This in itself is already my great victory! I now [emoji817] % fir sure that I will loose the rest 20-25 Kgs (40-45 pounds). If it takes a month longer that is also fine. My full bonus is already here, I am medicine free!! I feel great (except for the occasional gas which sometimes, drives me and my hubby crazy kkk) and hope everyone here has great success with their journey. We have all carried our weight too long with all the pain and I suffering that it involved. Now we are all getting a second lease. This in itself is a great thing. So let us all enjoy the ride. be kind and loving to ourselves and also patient with our bodies. They have endured a lot already. Lots if live to everyone. 9. Congratulations!! That is the best feeling in the world to go shopping in your own closet. I loved finding clothes I purchased years ago and finally got to take the tags off!! I agree on the vacation clothes. Wait until two weeks before so they won't be too big :-) congratulations again!!
  10. Of course you should tell the trainer, for several reasons. I disagree , I think the decision to tell or not is a personal one. 1. Some trainers make you drink Water several times during a work out. You need to be careful with this. It could make you throw up. Just drink (sip) at your own speed. 2. Some exercises press on your abdomen- be careful of your port site. Agreed. You could just tell the trainer you have had a recent op and need to be careful. I am sure you can come up with something if you don't want to tell. 3. All lap band patients should wear a medical alert tag in case something should happen that you can't speak for yourself. This is overkill. If you are ever in a situation where you need urgent lifesaving help the band is the least of your worries. Plus with XRAYS etc the med facility should see it anyway. 3. it is important to get an adequate amount of Protein so that you can build muscle.. www.myvi.net/katelm 4. You should be proud of the band.... and your trainer will be proud to be part of your journey to better health. Best of luck to you!!!

    Favorite Things To Sip On!

I can drink a glass of 3/4 Water and 1/4 of diet cranberry or diet cran grape. Diet snapple green tea is nice and I brew up decaf tea and pour it over crushed ice with a half pack of Splenda. When I need a " citrus" fix I make the sunrise orange crystal light and let it get to slushy point in the freezer.
  12. I teach fifth grade as well. I have a 20 minute break and I just try to snack during class. I generally will eat some turkey meat and string cheese and a yogurt. During my lunch break I will eat a few crackers and some chicken salad that I make with chicken breast. You will be fine. I am two months out as well but I really didn't have any energy problems. I taught summer school from 7:15 - 1:00 so it was a long day but I did well. I only took off a week.
  13. It looks like to need to take more than 2 weeks off. I teach 5th grade. I am already suffering with the fact that I have the leave them with a sub but i have to take care of me. I also wanted to know how did you eat your lunch? I only have a 20 minute lunch break (with the students of coarse). It takes at least 30 minutes to get the meal down. I guess I will figure these things out with time.

  15. I was banded almost a year ago. My anniversary will be June 16th. Since then I have lost around 45 pounds to get down to 175-8. I feel great and look great and am in a size 10-12. My question is this - for the last 3-4 months I haven't lost any real weight. I seem to be on this HUGE plateau. I am kinda freaking out. I want to loost my last 30-35 pounds, but it won't really budge! Is there anyone else who has had any experience with this? I have had 4 fills and still dont' feel like my restriction is where it needs to be, but for the most part I try to be good. Any info would be great!! thanks Jen
  16. My doctor did not recommend a fill for 6-8 weeks after surgery to ensure that everything internally had healed. The band is placed and usually the stomach tissue is stitched around it to keep it in place. They like the band to settle into its new home before putting Fluid in which could shift it out of place and pull on the sutures. Giving your body a chance to fully heal is not a bad thing and it will bring you over all long term success and that is what we want. Even though right now we want that instant gratification. That is not really the way the band works. Try not to compare yourself with others, this is YOUR journey and they are on theirs. Best of luck to you.

    March 17Th Check In

I had a loss this week - I've been bouncing around at 184.4 for quite a while but I walked every day this week, went back to liquids during the day and sensible meals at night and today I weighed in at 182.2. That is finally .4 down from my lowest weight since being sleeved so I am happy about that. Hoping that this week I'll see more loss and get down into the 170s soon! Have a great week everyone!
  18. Okay I had lost over 175 before surgery, but had been stuck for some time. Decided to go forward with the lap band 1 so I could lose more and 2 I want to keep it off. So any tool that will help is welcome. I was to see my PCP on Thursday but they called today and she had to go out of town tomorrow could I come in today at 3:45, sure why not! Dang it all I had to face her very telling scale, but happy to say down 8 pounds! I'm one happy girl and Wednesday I can start phase 2 of the diet, wow what will I do with real food?? Just looking forward to the day I can chew again, sure do miss it! Anyway well wishes to all on LBT this fine evening!

    Going through Norton - Louisville

Why would you have to start the process over? You would still have all the information current so that shouldn't matter unless United Health doesn't accept the 3 month plan (which I guess could happen). It may be difficult to get it all done before year end. I start the 3 month plan tomorrow so it will be mid December before I can even apply to insurance and who knows how long it will take to get approved then schedule surgery. Good luck to you as well

    Going through Norton - Louisville

I guess I have not technically started the 3 month diet. I haven’t really gotten any clear guidance I say my PCP the surgeon got my refferal 2 weeks later I can't see them till 10/28 but they won't answer anything till my appointment. My insurance requires a 6 month diet OR 3 month program seeing counselor, dietician....etc Scary I'm changing insurance on 1/1/09 and can't find their requirements......

Thank you everyone. I just love this forum! Everyone if so supportive. I also think I an out of my stall. I was down 2 more pounds this morning! I wish you all great success on this journey!
  22. Ok, I'm 5 days post op. I've been feeling pretty good. The soreness had eased up and the gas pains were pretty well gone. Then, this evening, all of a sudden my left upper side started cramping up and feeling like I'm having muscle spasms inside. Could my stomach be spasming?? It gets real intense for a few seconds then let's up. It happens every couple minutes. I'm getting kind of scared. It's been going on for a couple hours now. My follow up appt isn't until Thursday and my dr is 3 hours away. Anybody have an idea what's going on??

    What to eat?? Losing hope

Okay..so I got the surgery done June 9th....I have lost about 11lbs since then. I know weight loss is super slow but hey iths something. I have been doing zumba about 3-4 times a week, counting calories (about 1200 a day), and I have 8.3 in my band. I was wondering of someone would like to share their blog or food diary to see what I'm doing wrong. If i eat slow enough and take small bites, it can go eat with no problem and feel full faster...but not exactly feel full longer...what am I doing wrong??? Any type of help would be greatly appreciated. p.s. Has anyone gone through a slow weight loss but finally it's turned around?? I need some hope ....also has anyones Dr' prescribed any diet pills with Lapband?
  24. I live in Tallahassee, Florida and for my authorization I needed to visit a pulmonologist. Tallahassee Pulmonary lost my referral 3 times before offering me an appointment in March (my surgery is in December so... yeah) . My surgeons office, being the super awesome folks they are, were able to get me an appointment with a pulmonologist at Shands in Gainesville (about 2 hours and 15 minutes from my house). Not a bad drive and Shands has a wonderful reputation. I went and the people were extremely nice and thorough with the tests. I think that emptying my lungs until almost passing out has been my least favorite pre-op test! I'd take the camera being shoved down my throat over that lol. Anyway, other than the normal discomfort... it was fine. Until I met with the actual pulmonologist. I don't have her name here with me but she really pissed me off. She looked at my results, and said that I had better lung function and capacity than the average person. Great, right? Then she asked why I was having these tests. I told her I was having a gastric sleeve. Her face changed (this is a doctor, a specialist, a medical professional). Then she asked... "Haven't you ever just tried not eating so many carbs?" What the literal... efffffffff. I know that I gave her a cross between a side eye and stink eye and I replied, "No. That had never crossed my mind in the 30 years of being overweight. I just thought that going under and having someone cut out a part of my body sounded super fun!". Folks, she didn't say it with good intentions. It was said in a very accusatory, rude tone. I responded by having my words drip with sarcasm. I ten went on and had to educate this doctor on the fact that this is not a quick fix, and explained the surgery. She didn't know really what it even was... which in itself is fine because it's not her specialty. But really... telling me that I should just stop eating carbs to cure my weight problems?? Ugh. Anyway, my surgery has been approved and I am scheduled for December 27. Just wanted to rant a bit here.

4 months out and weight gain

Girl I'm 4 months out too. Surgery was on 12/2/14. I haven't lost any weight in a month. I'm about to lose my mind. I'm working out 3 to 4 days a week and still not jumping pounds.
