    Hair loss

Biotin, lots of Water, Protein and ure oregano oil addresses and eradicates scalp problems such as inflammation, dandruff and sweat. It is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-microbial in nature. If you have very little strand fallout, along with good hygiene and maintenance practices, it is believed that your hair will be able to grow at an accelerated pace. I have used oregano oil in the past and I did notice some benefits, including what looked like slightly faster-growing and stronger hair. When to use: Use weekly or bi-weekly as a part of hair and scalp cleansing regimen. If you are being challenged with hair loss, balding, dandruff, head lice, scabies or inflammation of the scalp, you may want to especially consider using pure oil of oregano. How to use: Create a topical hair/scalp rub for general maintenance to avoid hair loss and promote maximum scalp health. Mix with other oils, as pure, undiluted oregano oil can be a skin irritant. It is recommended that you dilute with carrier oil at a ratio of one to four. Add a few drops of pure oregano oil per tablespoon of shampoo to get rid of scalp infections or dandruff. If you are creating a topical ointment, you should use one ounce of pure oregano oil in four ounces of coconut oil on clean scalp. Once hair has been washed and conditioned, part your hair row by row and massage oil mixture into scalp for best results. If your scalp is particularly sensitive, dilute mixture to a more comfortable ratio and rub in. If you desire, you may rinse entire head after 10 to 15 minutes, as the smell may be strong even after dilution.
  2. This really is pretty good tasting, IMO. It also gets you a lot of protein for not a whole lot of drinking or calories. 12oz of 1% milk (8.2g protein, 102 calories, calories from fat 21, 2.4g fat, 12.2g carbohydrates) 3 scoops of GNC Pro Performance AMP Wheybolic Extreme 60 Chocolate flavor (60g protein, 280 calories, 10 calories from fat, 1g fat, 7g carbohydrates). Mix together, chill, and drink over 3 sessions. You get 68.2g of protein for only 382 calories, and best of all, it tastes GREAT. Also, the GNC powder that I listed has amino acids which should aid in recovering from surgery. http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3509954

    Letter from insurance

You probably won't be able to get a clear answer to this out of the insurance co., but you can try. I'd suggest two things...talk to the insurance expert/billing person at your surgeon's office as they deal with your insurance company requirements all the time (I've gotten the best info. about my insurance from this person...mine said "If you fall below the 35 BMI then you won't need the surgery." They can't legally tell you not to lose weight, but if you ask the right questions they'll 'tell you'.). You can also do a post (put the city/state and insurance co. name in your title) on the insurance forum here and you'll get replies from others who have the same. It's so different even within the same co. I am not allowed to fall below the minimum 35 BMI before approval, and also I should not lose much weight (5-10# ttl...I'm expected not to succeed at loss), but others here are expected to lose like 10% of their body weight and some are allowed to fall below the 35 or 40 BMI thresholds (I have BCBS also, but the requirements are different even within my same state of PA). Good luck (and make sure you're well above your threshold for the consult as they'll weigh you).

    Please don't judge me...

I slim a few times a month. Eating too fast does it. It was gross. I walked around my house for about 10 minutes until I burped a few times and felt much better. My ribs got thrown out Monday night because of this and I was pissed. They tasted so good. We all do it.
  5. I don't have complete info for you, but I can help you with part of your question. I think by the "Inamed" band, you're referring to the 9.75 and 10 cm bands (that both hold 4 cc's of fluid). The reason your question could be modified is that the VG band is made by Inamed too. The VG band is 11 cm in length (thus larger than the other Inamed bands) and holds (I understand you don't care about how much they hold but someone might) about 11 cc's of Fluid. So, the largest of the Inamed bands is the VG. I have no idea how the VG compares in size to the Sweedish band. I also don't know if there's a difference in where the two bands are placed on the stomach -- that could impact your question too. Happy searching!

    after lap band

Alicia I was not bedridden but I did spend most of my time on the couch. I was more sore then anything not much pain - and I am a chicken when it comes to pain. After a few days I would walk around the house to get my body going and when that got boring about a week and a half after surgery I would walk on the treadmill at a VERY low speed just to keep myself moving fpr about 10-15 minutes at a time. It was November so it was too cold to walk outside so thats why I used the treadmill. I do remember getting winded quickly but I would take my time and just do what I could.
  8. So I am pretty sure I know where my port is, as I have been able to feel it since surgery. It is located just to right of my belly button and I can still feel it there. But I have a new lump just above my belly button that has just appeared today. I dont know what it is It doesnt necessarily hurt but I am kinda concerned about it. I have felt pretty good the last couple of days and did a little bit of very much needed housework and some laundry. I made sure that I didnt pick up anything heavy. I am going to call the doctor in the morning, but wondering if anyone has heard of this as of yet. Post op is 10 days out.

    Approved Aetna Rocks!

My first meeting was a seminar on March 19 , 2011. Had 12 weeks supervised diets , behavior ,nutrition and Dr's. appointments. Every thing was sent in Last wed (May 25,11) should have had surgery on the 5th but I am gone a week in June so I have mandatory (by the Doctor) classes of 4 weeks preop , I have to miss one in the middle but just one week wont kill me! I hope!! So adding it all up I will have surgery its like 4 months and 3 weeks from start to surgery! Seems long but the time flies by. Good luck . will watch for your progress!
  10. Thanks for the response and link. It was very helpful! I try not to compare myself to others but it is hard not to sometimes not too. I am happy with my progress so far. It just sometimes when you have a slow weight loss week you can't help but wonder, Is this it? Is this all I am going to be able to lose this time? But i am still early in the game. I am 10 week post op so I am going to be positive that there is more weight loss to come and stay on track with my plan.
  11. Hey March 3rd group. Here's a quick update: I'm still fatigued from doing nothing. I don't meet my 64 oz. goal for hydration, I'm only halfway there. So I started with the popsicles this week to help me. I take the Prilosec and the bariatric multivitamins eveyday, without issue now. I don't like the taste, but I will manage. 3/6 incisions have shed the skin glue naturally and looks amazing. Going to start using Mederma and vitamin e oil next week. They itch like hell though and are still a little bit tender. Pooping is not my friend, I'm taking the meds to assist me. I've only went once over this past weekend. I will take the Miralx to aide my body if needed. I want to chew and now... I have to fight this head hunger like everyone else. I'm hungry sometimes, but I will drink a shake or one of my allowed items from the Full liquid diet. Still want a waffle and Turkey bacon or some cashews. I'm down exactly 10 pounds from surgery last week. Sleep is difficult, I'm uncomfortable most nights and I want to go sleep during regular sleeping hours, I can't. I need a little more rest than normal. I finally put on a bra today and full lounge wear.

    VSG Runners Question

I'm 10 weeks post-op and just starting back to running. At this time I can drink normally - normal size drinks, max 4oz at a time. I also use Nuun...I just let it go flat before I drink it, which isn't a problem. So far my distances are short enough, that I haven't had to eat during the run....still rebuilding based on my energy level. I'm planning on a bit of trial and error as I find what works. Right now I'm leaning towards a small pouch of peanut butter...I know my stomach can handle it and sounds better than Gu. (I hated Gu pre-op so I don't expect it to have improved)
  13. Hello everyone. I was recently diagnosed with hypothyriodism in 8/2019. After realizing this, I started the process to get approved for VSG and was approved for a 8/2020 surgery date. I then pushed my surgery date back to 12/2020 because I am so afraid of the unknown. I am 5 ft 9 inches tall and I weigh 269 lbs currently. I have always been super athletic and my calves and thighs are huge and are very muscular. I have a three year old daughter and lost 22 lbs during my pregnancy just so that I could deliver with my OB vs being considered high risk and having to transfer to the hospital where I worked in high risk OB. My highest weight has been 275 lbs. Please someone with hypothyriodism please share some insight with me. Here are my biggest fears. Loosing too much weight too fast. Not being able to tone my body and my biggest is not being able to ever drink 2-3 gallons of water day every again. I currently take Synthoriod 75 mg and I have found a new endo Dr. Please someone share some info with me.

    My doc never mentioned this..

I'm over 10 months out, and I have only thrown up on three occasions since surgery. Once was the day I came home from the hospital and stupidly took my whole antidepressant for the first time in a few days on an empty stomach (I started cutting it in half and taking it in two doses spaced out, with food, and was fine). Once was a couple months later and was just a weird combination of factors and seems to have been just one of those random things. And then a couple months ago I had a nasty stomach flu, which is completely unrelated to my surgery. As far as acid reflux, I take prescription Pepcid twice a day as a preventive measure and have no problems. In fact, I haven't touched a Tums since surgery, where before I was popping them all the time. Everyone is different, some people have these issues, but for me the benefits outweighed the possibility of the side effects. Don't panic and cancel surgery.

    Taking robitussin?

I am a little over 2 months after the surgery. I was down with cold and flu 10 days ago and did take Tussin. I was scared first that I might throw up but it was alright. Please try half a spoon (half a tablet) of the dosage first and give it 15 minutes to see how you feel and then take the remaining dosage.

    A spiritual friends thoughts

For 10 years + I have prayed, asked, begged God to give me strength to be able to lose weght and keep it off. For some reason or another it didn't happen. When I found and was given this tool I felt completely blessed and protected by HIM, and I knew, once I had the operation done, that He granted this gift to me. Now the rest is up to me

    Shepard's Pie

Shepard’s Pie This will look like the traditional recipe when it comes out of the oven, but the topping is made from pureed turnips and cauliflower flavored with butter! You can steam the veg's for the topping while you make the filling. FOR THE FILLING 1 medium onion - 1/2 inch diced 3 garlic cloves - crushed and minced 4 ribs celery - 1/2 inch diced 1 cup green Beans - chopped into 1/2 inch pieces 1 small turnip - 1/2 inch diced or 1 small rutabega, diced+steamed 15 minutes *1 lb ground beef, turkey, lamb or other meat 1 roma tomato - diced (optional) 3 tablespoons Water 1/2 teaspoon margoram - optional sea salt & pepper to taste *rutabegas take longer to cook than all the other ingredients for the filling so its important to pre-cook it. In a large skillet with lid: heat the water over medium flame. Add ground beef and cook until getting crumbly, breaking it up with your spoon. Add all the diced veggies and stir well to combine. Cover and simmer on low for 15 minutes, add a little water if you need to so that they can actually simmer. just enough so there's some liquid bubbling, veg's shouldn't be swimming. Add marjoram, sea salt & pepper to taste and pour into 9x9 baking dish, or a large pie dish. FOR THE TOPPING 1 large head cauliflower - chopped 2 medium turnips, chopped into 1/2 inch cubes butter, sea salt & pepper to taste Steam the cauliflower and turnips until very soft. Put them into a Cuisinart fitted with the double blade and puree with some butter -2 or 3 tablespoons, salt & pepper to taste. If you don’t have a Cuisinart, mash them with a potato masher, they will be a bit more lumpy, but just as good! Spoon the cauliflower mixture over the top of the beef mixture, gently spreading it to cover all the way to the edges of the dish. Sprinkle with a few dashes of paprika and place on a baking sheet (to catch any drips so as not to mess up your oven). Place into a preheated 350 oven for 20 to 30 minutes, or just until you can see it getting bubbly, and the edges of the topping are a bit browned. Every oven is different, so its a good idea to check it after 10 minutes! Then keep an eye on it. A great winter warmer, and it really is quite easy once you've diced & chopped... Lovely with some chopped parsley on top for garnish.

    A spiritual friends thoughts

I've struggled with this also. Maladies in our bodies are because of the sin in the world. For some of us it seems there is a biological/chemical/psychological/emotional disconnect causing us to be overweight. I believe strongly God is using this surgery to equip me to being honor to Him thru my body and thru serving him more efficiently. If I had cancer I don't know if I would sit and decide if getting chemo was a sin....I'd use it as a tool for God to restore health to my body. There is such a stigma to being overweight, those of us who struggle have many of the same thoughts. If we could just WILL it or be better people, we'd be able to do this. For some--God gives the willpower. For some of us, it's the tool of weight watchers, support groups, personal trainers, nutritionists, doctors and even surgeons. Man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Being healthy will allow me to glorify Him much more effectively. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ESV / Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. --------- 1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV / So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Grace and Peace brothers and sisters!

Have you tried the Master Gardeners Extensions? http://ag.arizona.edu/pubs/garden/mg/ http://extension.arizona.edu/maricopamg http://www.phxgardening.com/grow-vegetables.html http://www.phoenixtropicals.com/vegetables.html http://www.azcentral.com/style/hfe/outdoors/articles/20100317arizona-spring-planting-guide.html http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/azgard/msg1116045925629.html They all can show and help you to grow crops in the heat. I've used the ones here in Virginia. They're great. Some of them even will allow you to swap stuff with them or teach you things like dehydration, canning, etc. Speaking of which, what about homesteading? Have you looked into that? http://homesteading-arizona.blogspot.com/ http://www.motherearthnews.com/homesteading-and-livestock/yavapai-county-zmaz87jfzgoe.aspx http://thepaleomama.com/2013/10/urbanhomesteading/ http://www.homesteadingtoday.com/general-homesteading-forums/homesteading-questions/285458-az-homesteading.html All of these are ways that you can save money and use less resources, conserve. Things you can do around the house. I know here there are groups that allow you to trade, swap and barter. If you can get to a library also, there are ways of getting books on that, or info. What else have you checked into like this?

    Back in the hospital.

I had to go back to the hospital early in my recovery too. I fought it for an entire week. I had flulike symptoms that I just tolerated and ignored because my experience in my complicated, lengthy original hospital stay had been so miserable. Finally, my doctor ordered me back. I DID NOT want to go, but I went. Turns out I had a kidney infection, and had I continued to struggle at home, I could have been in very serious trouble. Now, looking back, I'm glad I went in. I jumpstarted my recovery. If you can't stay hydrated, you should go back in. Being seriously dehydrated will compromise your ability to heal and recovery, and is dangerous anyway. The first month of my recovery was pretty hellish. But then things even out. I'm now 10 weeks out, and yes, it does get better. I have lost a lot of weight (31 pounds), and I'm not sick anymore. I just live my day to day life. The suffering was definitely worth it. You'll get over the hump too, even if now, it doesn't look like it. Hang in there.

    Nearing a Major Goal!!!!!!

Reading all of your wonderful posts has me sitting here at my desk with big ole tears rolling down my face! Thank you all so much. As for any words of advice...don't for one second think it can't be done because no matter what you need to lose, it can be done! I say my band was kissed by an angel before it was put in me because I've had hardly any problems. The changes in my life are unbelievable! At 469 pounds, I had given up on life completely. Now I have a life and man, what a wonderful feeling! I have 2 little granddaughters, 4 and 2, and the joy of being able to actually sit on the floor and play with them is priceless. Before, I couldn't have gotten down on the floor much less get up. It's some of the most simple things in life that I'm amazed that the weight loss has changed. I'm having a huge issue with the large amount of excess skin, but I just keep telling myself to just concentrate on my accomplishments and not the negative part. I run into people that I haven't seen since my surgery and they don't recognize me. I've gone from crossing my fingers and hoping a size 32 would fit (most times it didn't) to wearing a size 12 or 14. I can walk a country mile now compared to walking 10 feet before and then pretending to have something in my shoe so I could stop and catch my breath and hope people bought the excuse. I think one of the major secrets to my success with my lap band is sure determination and being a lot bullheaded! So many people said I couldn't do it...well, I dang sure am! I told my surgeon on the first visit, I was going to be his biggest loser and I am. I'm speaking at a convention in Dallas in October and I can't wait to share my story. I want people to know that if someone that had let themself get to 469 pounds can do it...they can too! Thanks again for all the kind words. This site has been my savior so many times. It would be hard to find people anywhere that are as supportive and kind as the folks on here! It might sound silly but I can't wait for those 4 pounds so I can do something that I never even thought possible...lose 300 pounds! I just got chills typing that. I have to admit, I'm very proud of myself and God bless whoever invented the lap band!!!!!!
  22. WELL PEOPLE I HAD MY SURGERY ON JUNE 25TH. SURPRISINGLY I REALLY WASNT THAT NERVOUS JUST READY TO GET IT OVER WITH. THE PAIN WASNT AS BAD AS I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE JUST VERY ANNOYING BECAUSE IM A PRETTY ACTIVE PERSON. I WOULD TRY TO GET UP TO DO SOMETHING AND THE PAIN WOULD KNOCK SOME SENSE INTO ME THEN I WOULD PROCEED SLOWLY LOL. I HAVE MY GOOD DAYS AND MY BAD DAYS. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES THE OTHER DAY I WAS EXCITED ABOUT THAT.I THINK THE MOST ANNOYING THING HAS BEEN THE CHEST DISCOMFORT. I OFTEN FEEL REALLY BLOATY AND GASY IT SORT OF FEELS LIKE THERE IS A HUGE BURP STUCK IN MY CHEST THIS HAS BEEN DRIVING ME CRAZY. WELL IM LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD AND STARTING A HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE, I CANT WAIT UNTIL I CAN START WORKING OUT. THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR SUPPORT:thumbup:

    How much can you eat.....

I am seriously considering this banding. I looked up your profile and it is so similar like mine that i thought i would question you. i hope you don't mind. when did you get your banding done? Is it painful? How long before you can go to work? Are you not hungry at all or is it hard to eat after you do this? what made you really go through this? all of these years i have been wanting to loose weight. it is so easy to put it on but to get rid of it, is not that easy! i am 5'4" and i am 198 lbs. I got liposuction done about 10 years ago, but i dont' recommend it becuase other areas in your body grow a lot if you continue to eat a lot so you are some what not proportional anymore. Please help me make the best decision for me.
