    Lapband to sleeve

I had lapband in 2005. Had it removed in 2009. Sleeved 4/10/18. My immediate post-op experience after being sleeved was rough. Surgeon said I had a lot of scar tissue from the lapband, which took him almost twice as long as a normal sleeve to take care of. That means I was under anesthesia longer than usual, so I was REALLY groggy for about 12 hours after surgery. I had no energy to get up and walk like the others on my hospital unit. I had no desire to sip-sip-sip and I think I looked a bit like I'd been hit by a truck. I certainly felt that way. Once I got through the immediate post op part, I returned to normal pretty quickly. Other than some fatigue, I was feeling back to normal after about 6 days. I went through the normal progression from clear liquids to full liquids to mushies to soft, etc. When comparing the two, I'd say that the sleeve has a lot more restriction. After a certain amount, I simply cannot eat. If I do, I suffer with discomfort and a lot of foam/saliva/slime. I was never able to tolerate fills in my band, so this was something relatively new to me. If you have any sort of GERD, I caution. The sleeve tends to make GERD worse. I'd say it's a little hit or miss in that department, but it's certainly something to discuss with your surgeon. I started getting heartburn about 3 weeks out and I've had some times where I was really worried about nighttime reflux, but I seem to have it under control right now. As a revision surgery, it is likely you will lose slower this time around. I read it on here and I read other information on the internet, but was still disappointed at the slow weight loss. I'm certainly happy it's coming off, but it is much slower than first timers.

    Last minute payment

I have paid my Surgeon $790(before my first appt with him) and the hospital called and said I would have to pay them $1300, 10 days before surgery... my date is October 15th. The payments will satisfy my Out-Of-Pocket(OOP) expense with my insurance for the year. Once OOP is met, insurance will pay 100% of my medical expenses... for the remainder of this year Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Well little sis, I think I am just about ready to topple back into the 200s, and I could cry💦 I feared I'd never be down there again. So what if my clothing size isn't yet changing, the lower I go the quicker it will happen. And although 175 and a size 15 junior are still my dreams, I really would find anything under 200 acceptable. But just for the hey nonny nonny, let's see how low I can go! Things may balk, stall and move slowly, but fall of 2019- spring of 2020, I will be looking👀so good! Big Mama is going to be Hot Mama, and even if I am fatal to some, those men gonna have happy on their faces! Won't need so much mortician skills, will they?
  4. Hi all - I’ve lost 10 pounds on my pre-op diet & gained 14 in the hospital with all of the IV fluids. it took me a few days, but I lost the fluid weight plus an additional 5 pounds. I am only on protein shakes and water and I’m not even having that required 3/4 protein shakes a day (averaging 2.5/3). I will be 3 weeks out on Wednesday and have started gaining weight! Grrrrr..... How is this even possible? Anyone else experiencing something similar?

Wondering about experiences with exercise post-surgery

I was having a terrible time with exercise tolerance before surgery. I'm almost 6 weeks post op now. I did some basic walking before surgery and was usually winded 10 min into my 30 min walk. It sucked. But, I got back into my walking within a couple of days post op and for me, my exercise tolerance was better within a week. 2 weeks post op I was back in the gym doing elliptical and treadmill, easily making it to 30-45 min. I'm currently doing short warm ups on cardio machines and focusing on weight training. My muscles feel tired after my workouts but I have a ton of energy. I feel like an entirely different person already - so much stronger.
  6. I posted in the other October sleever thread (the one that is labeled "2018," which will make it less confusing if we stay in touch through 2019, which is why I stopped posting over here in this thread until now) with a list of the October sleevers and their surgery dates, so people can know who their surgery buddies are.

Any updates for 4 months out sleevers?

I am down 118 total since my surgery on May 10. I’ve had zero issues since surgery minus the inability to eat scrambled eggs and lunch meat. Both things make me vomit every time I try them. Outside of that, no issues. I have been working out with weights since mid June when I was cleared to start lifting. I’ve been walking 5+ miles a day for the last few months. I started with half a mile, then a mile and very quickly jumped to 5 miles. Once you get past the first six weeks of walking it becomes so easy. Something I never would have said presurgery where my weight on my joints made small walks a chore. Now instead of adding miles to my walks I add speed. I just walk faster because I don’t have time to walk for hours on end. This past week I added some hills to my walks by doing different more hilly routes.

    October 2018 Sleevers

I've started a list to help people find their surgery buddies. This is supposed to just be sleevers, but I bet some others snuck on. It's supposed to be all the October sleevers, but I'm 100% sure I missed some, and some don't have dates yet. Let me know if you aren't on the list and want to be on it, or if you're on it but want to be, and I'll edit this post! (Please please please don't quote the whole post; just type "@CrankyMagpie" to get my attention. I mean, also, I'm following this thread, so I'll see it even if you don't @ me.) 9. I use Body Fortress whey protein powder and it blends fine. You can get it in isolate as well but unless you use a blender it is very grainy right away. If you continue to stir it after the initial mix, it will dilute more. $17 for whey or $19 for the isolate at Walmart. You can also find it online (ie:Amazon.com) for about the same price. The me the flavors I've tried do not taste like what they are supposed to but they do taste really good. The 60g of protein they have on the label is for 2 scoops. A serving is 1 scoop. https://www.bodyfortress.com/chocolate-whey-protein-powder https://www.bodyfortress.com/SUPER-ADVANCED-100-PROTEIN-ISOLATE-VANILLA

    Pre -op and Nervous

I am right there with you. Scared as hell and nervous as all get out. It's normal and when I talk to myself (often) I tell myself doing something that I fear, demonstrates bravery. It helps me with resetting my thinking. I'm tired of my knees hurting, found out Friday my sleeve is dilated and gastric polyps. If I can stop taking meds for acid reflux (over 10 years), have knees that don't ache and buy a smaller bra (eventually) I'm going for it. You are not alone in this; I got you in prayer. Take a deep breath and get ready to embrace the next chapter in your life.

    1week post op

The first few weeks post op I was in alot of pain and also not in the best mood. I had a drain placed so I had to nurse that for about 10 bdays before it was removed. I started to feel better and like normal around 1 month post op. I think pain can colour your experience greatly. I ate very little and only the items allowed, I wasn't that interested in the foods in the weird phases, when I got back to regular foods (final phase) I was more hopeful and cooked the things I liked but made them the healthiest versions possible. Game changer for me. Try to avoid breaking the protocol of your diet, instead ask your team if you can excelerate the stages. If not take it for what it's worth and soon enough you will be back to whole foods and feeling better. Safe Journey!

Why am I losing weight so slowly

Hi! Are you tracking with an app like MyfitnessPal? Can you post a screenshot shot of a random day when you were still losing vs now? Also how long since your weight has moved up or down? By 4 months post op I only lost 37lbs! I am a slow loser also. But things add up I'm the long run because at 10 months post op I'm about 90lbs down .

  15. I finally got a surgery date, after extreme stress for the past few years. My mom passed away on Mother's Day and I flew in from out of state just in time to be with her. We had a very rough past few years losing both of my brothers, one to cancer and one quite suddenly. This threw my mom into a deep depression and dementia that got progressively worse. Trying to deal with it from another state was very hard and she didn't want any help. I got through losing my younger brother but my older brother really crushed me. I have no other siblings. Now, my husband has prostate cancer that spread to his pelvic bone. Our lives have changed forever. As long as the meds they put him on work, he can live for another 10 or more years. He has started hormone pills as that is the best treatment to keep the Testosterone down. I pray it works as my entire immediate family is gone and I'm terrified of being alone and living without him. His moods are up and down and everyone tells me I have to be strong for him, but I'm not sure I have much strength left! He wants me to go through with the surgery and of course I am, but I have so many other things on my mind. Sorry for venting so much. I am really lonely and scared, but need to do this for myself. I'm hoping it will turn my life around. My husband is trying to prepare me for a life without him and after 33 years of marriage and working so hard toward our retirement plans, I wonder what our future is. My pre-op is Oct. 10 and my surgery is Oct. 23rd. We should know by then if the hormone pills are helping. I hope all the stress I'm under doesn't effect my recovery.
  16. There are many options when it comes to affording bariatric surgery and getting FREE or reduced-cost weight loss surgery is possible. There are many options when it comes to paying for bariatric surgery. Let's explore them. Click on each hyperlink to learn more on the topic. Having health insurance does not mean that weight-loss surgery is covered in your policy. About one quarter of people seeking weight-loss surgery will be denied three times before they receive weight-loss surgery insurance approval. If you have insurance coverage for bariatric surgery and are denied, you have the right to contest the decision and write a bariatric surgery insurance appeal letter. Since many health insurance plans exclude weight loss surgery, this leaves people faced with the decision to self-pay for bariatric surgery or to forgo what could very well be a life-saving procedure given the devastating effects of obesity and obesity-related diseases on health. An option is to take out a medical loan for weight-loss surgery. However, bariatric surgery is expensive if health insurance will not cover the surgery. And many people seek bariatric surgery outside the U.S. and engage in the process of weight loss surgery medical tourism. Thousands of individuals head to Mexico for Bariatric Surgery to realize excellent quality care, fast wait times, and attractive prices. With the question of safety of weight loss surgery in Mexico being being top of mind, I turned to Alex Brecher founder of BariatricPal Hospital MX for further exploration. Alex Brecher opened the BariatricPal Hospital MX in 2017 after having run a Mexico medical tourism business for 10 years. As far as free bariatric surgery in the US, while it will no doubt be a challenge, free weight-loss surgery is within the realm of possibility. Free or reduced cost WLS grants and charity care are available. There also are bariatric surgery clinical trials for surgical weight-loss candidates. 18. @sillykitty Dinner looked fabulous!!! I'd soon gobble that down! Was it sweet at all? I haven't had Thai in so long because of the sugar they add to all the sauces. I do miss it! @GreenTealael What is Sukkoth? I could google it, but would rather your abridged version. Mazels! No real IF yesterday from a food type, but I did end up going 14/10 between eating first and last meals yesterday, so defacto IF. Today is Game 5 of our playoffs. I'm thinking about fasting until the game if possible. Don't know if I will make it or if it would even be considered a true fast--or if I should say eff it. I'm fighting off a cold and I take what we call "eukaneuba" every 4 hours lol. It's actually Sambucus Elderberry Extract Ultra Concentrated - standardized to 5000mg per dose. It is a natural anti-bac/anti-viral and works great if your immune system is flagging as well. If you take it early enough, you can skip the infection entirely. If you don't get it early and develop full-blown symptoms, it will shorten the duration and severity of the infection. Works so great on cold and flus. But there is a little natural sugar/carb in it from the extract (it's extract, glycerine, water)...so I wonder if it shuts down the autophagy part of the fast or not?

    My surgery date is coming

I start my liquid diet at noon today. I have to bathe with a certain kind of soap. I don’t rinse for one minute. Dry off with a HAND TOWEL!! Put on Clean pj’s. The sheet have to be clean. I put on a patch behind my ear. This is getting ahead of the nausea. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. In the morning I take the same kind of shower before I go to the hospital. I take Emend (anti nauseating) pill. Not to scare anyone but this 1 pill was $110. Thank goodness I reached my deductible and out of pocket. I have to be at the hospital at 10:30 and surgery @ 12:30.
  20. The tannins in tea, lucky me, cause migraine headaches that are so bad that I am gutter crawling, commode hugging sick. And because of that I have not had tea either hot or iced in over 10 years
  21. My doctor told me that caffeine will impact the healing process of the pouch and that is why I when from a 10 cup a day habit to decaf same thing to 1small 8 ounce cup for the two week fast. I plan to stay on decaf.

    My surgery date is coming

My surgery is scheduled for 10/29/2018. it took 5 months to get all of the testing done (EKG, endoscope, colonoscopy, ultrasound, psyc approval). The insurance company gave the OK last Friday. I haven't felt nervous, just excited. I am ready to stop the yoyo diet lifestyle. I have tried all of the regular, and some not so regular, weight loss plans. I would lose well, and then gain it all back, plus few extra pounds. I am ready to leave that in the past as I start this new part of my life.
