  1. I got mine from escali.com because they're pretty reliable. One scale I got from them is almost 10 years old. You can get a digital scale that weighs in both ounces and grams, to the nearest 10th of an ounce and up to 6 lbs (making it versatile for other uses) for about $30 or $40. .

Hi it depends on your insurance requirement my insurance required a mandatory 6 month requirement along with various test , I started the entire thing with a seminar back in August 2014 and do to long waiting lit for my surgeon I did not have my procedure done until May 2014. I though it too forever but the time allowed me to learn a lot about myself my true friends and make the necessary changes in my life such as getting rid of bad foods, beginning an exercise program, and learning why I was an emotional eater as well as just stress and comfort eater good luck. Total time from start to finish was 10 months.

    Bypass process

I started in September 2014. I also had to go through psych eval, testing, RN meetings, Surgical consult, a 6 month diet period and see a nutritionist once a month. I had an Endoscopy, and a month long wait for approval from insurance. 9 months or so. plus a 10 day liquid pre-op diet. I finally have surgery on May 20th. I am so excited!

  5. I use 2 Flinstones chewables, 2 Calcium chewable and 1 sub-lingual B-12. I have taken advil without a problem but interestingly enough I use to take at least 7-10 advils a month before getting banded. I used to get terrible headaches- the kind that made you wish you could cut it off! But since being banded (8-7-03) I have had the need to take it only 2x! Go figure! As for the prune juice... oh my God we buy it by the case load in my family because everyone seems to have that problem! When I feel the need I just make myself a small salad and a nice helping of olive oil & lemon juice. It tastes great and does the job well. Mary

    I am banded!

Sus - I went into admissions at 9:30 am, into surgery at 10:30 am and out the door at about 2:00 pm.... quite a whirlwind and a really crappy drive back home - I'm about 45 minutes from the Surgery Center. Was glad to get home and lay down and SLEEP.... I think I would've been out even sooner if my blood pressure had been behaving. Crazy technology these days - doesn't seem quite possible to have something like that done and be in and out that fast!

    Return To Liquid Diet?

honestly, i did it. I had a stall for about 10 weeks. Of course during this time i was losing inches intially, but eventually, everything came to a stop, the weight, the inches... So i went back onto liquid diet for 3 days, and whoop, the scale moved, 3 lbs. Then darn! my period came for a visit, and I haaven't step on the scale since then, but i've started eating normal again, cos the fainting spells were pretty bad. I'm not for or against this idea, just sharing my story. anyway personally, 6 day stall i think its pretty normal, i think you should weigh yourself every 2 weeks..
  8. I haven't posted in a while. I used to find these kinds of videos really helpful, so I decided to chronicle my own journey through this process. Here's my 10 month update-- I've now lost over 100 pounds! I also included some before and after pics!

Would you have WLS again? What kind?

Yes I would do it all over again. I am extremely happy with my RNY. I just wish I had been brave enough to get it done 10 years earlier.

Would you have WLS again? What kind?

definitely would do it again... my health and life have improved 100 fold. I only wish I had done it at least 10 years ago but I know I will have more quality of life for as long as it last. Any issues I have had were from my not doing what I was supposed to do but I get back on track easier than on any other program. I am very fortunate to have had the best surgeon ever do mine and a really great support team at home.. My husband and daughter and grandkids are my biggest fans.I am very blessed.
  11. Hey all got sleeved on July 19 down 55lbs feeling good. I only wish it would go faster lol

    Cold Feet? Big Mistake?

I have yo-yo dieted for years, I had the lap band done 10/20/09. I have lost 35 lbs. I can lose weight but I always gain it back. That is why I had the surgery. I think the people who are the most successful with this are the ones who are willing to cook healthy foods. If you eat out alot and are not willing to change I don't think the band does any good. Eating less of the wrong foods still wont work. Eat good foods, eat less and exercise is the only solution to weight loss. The band helps with the eat less part. You have to be willing to do the others. Weight loss surgery is a business like any other, if they were doing it because they "cared" it would be free. Good luck in whatever you decide.

    Cold Feet? Big Mistake?

Just got an email from a family friend who had the procedure at Ellis(same place I'm using). She's an RN and her comment was that this was the "best thing" she's ever done and has lost 65 pounds. She says she feels good and is traveling and being far more active than she's been in years. Can't argue with those sentiments. I chose the lap-band because I'm not comfortable with the malabsorbtion issues and because I am a breast cancer survivor(10 Years!) and if I ever had a recurrance I know I'd need additional nutrition/calories in the face of chemo & radiation. I think what's been most frustrating over the years especially following nutrition counseling has been knowing what to eat, how much, the importance of having no forbidden foods, portion control and still continuing to eat too much. I'm more and more convinced that the lap-band will allow me(eventually) to eat like a normal person and not focus so much on food.

    Robotic gastric sleeve

I had mine on March 18th, 2019. I am doing pretty good so far. The nausea the first day or 2 after surgery was HORRIBLE! It did get better though. Only real problems I am having right now is eating/drinking enough water. I can only tolerate liquids right now and sometimes even that's hard to keep down.
  15. Did anyone else have robotic surgery? Mine was on 3-11-19. If so, how are you doing after having it done.

    Nervous about revision

I'm sorry for all you have been going through. I also have a sliding haital hernia, by the way. Makes it possible to eat well some days and some other days, I can't get anything down. Since you had a hernia before the sleeve and it is back now, if repaired again without converting to the bypass, according to my surgery, the hernia will likely return in 3-5 years, unless your diaphragm is supported with a mesh filter. Making the decision to have any WLS is difficult enough, let alone having to decide on a revision. It really comes down to quality of life, from what I've experienced and heard in support group for months now. If you feel you can manage your reflux well enough with medication, then maybe surgery is not worth the risk but acid reflux could lead to other things down the line... In my case, there is a plethora of reasons for revision, so that in a way, has made it easier to decide (scheduled for 9/9/19). Also, regarding your main concern (dumping), I actually have that now with the sleeve (maybe 3-4 times a month). It happens when I make poor choices (high sugar or high fat). Yes, it's more likely to happen with the bypass, but I think managing our intake regardless of surgery type is key to preventing uncomfortable dumping situations. I'll have surgery just 10 days before you, so if you'd like, let's keep in touch and I'll let you know how it goes! I am most likely to have an open surgery (surgeon will try laparoscopic first) due to an obstruction in my sleeve, ulcers, and scar tissue buildup being 7+ years out, so my recovery may be a bit different/lengthy.

    Nervous about revision

I was suffering from January 2019 after a round of steroids, until my revision from sleeve to bypass on 9/11/19. I will honestly say I am very thankful I had made the decision to proceed with the surgery regardless of any possible drawbacks. After 9 months of progressively being able to eat less and less food, sleeping in a chair, to not sleeping at all unless I was at an almost 90 degree angle; the surgery has given me back my life. 1 week after surgery I was able to sleep at a 45 degree angel and 2 weeks after surgery I was finally able to convince myself to try to sleep at an almost flat position. I am now 6 weeks out and I have finally had a week of real sleep after 9+ months of "naps". Like most of everyone who opts originally for the sleeve, I was worried about the bypass dumping syndrome, which unfortunately I have learned the realness of, and how to avoid it at all costs. ( quick lesson - avoid all sugars real and artificial), but I still have the fear of losing too much weight, malabsorbtion, and osteoporosis. I still haven't started solid food for fear of the GERD coming back, but I was told if I were to stay on the high dose pantoprazole for long term it would contribute to osteoperosis, which was my absolute defining calalyst to finally agreeing to the surgery. If you are on the fence, determine what kind of quality of life you wan, then if you are willing to make the changes to achieve it. I knew I wanted to be able to walk independently and not need to be using a cane or wheelchair when I retire, especially if I could make better food choices and take vitamins after surgery to prevent it now. Good luck with your decision.

    Question For The Post Ops...

You might think about slacking off on the gym on your 2 week diet. You can lose only so much quickly, then you will stall. You don't want to stall before you even start. Eating that little plus working out hard could send your body into a starvation mode...such as it is. I think I lost 15 pounds on my 10 day preop with no calorie restrictions whatsoever...just drinking shakes and eating nothing but soup. And I didn't workout once.
  20. Congrats on your idea for this new chapter in the capital district area. I expect to have my RNY in June if all goes well. I have been in this process since December and I am almost at the end. In 10 days I see the sleep doctor and check my results with my cpap machine. If I have shown improvement since my study [in January], and I expect to, she will clear me for my surgery. Then its just waiting for the insurance approval I have CDPHP. I too have Dr Trivedi as my doctor. Were you pleased with everything, the doctor, staff etc? One question I have concerns about, being able to pick up the phone and check with him or his staff on my current process and exactly where i'm at. Also were you happy with all your follow-up? Sorry, I had more questions than I realized. Its just great to converse with someone who's been there with my doctor. Any advise would be appreciated.
  21. From what I understand, liquids don't sit in the stomach very long if taken alone... so given your modest rate of drinking - 2oz per 10-15 minutes, it may be that your stomach is emptying that liquid as fast as you are filling it.

    Gas Pain after Surgery ?

I’m 10 weeks post sleeve surgery and noticed that I get the same feeling when I eat or drink too quickly. I’ve been working on slower sips (not gulping) and smaller bites until applesauce consistency and haven’t felt it since.

  24. I had like 4 bites of cheesecake. It was good, but it hurt me like 10 min layer. Right now I can't handle things that sweet and rich.

    So... What Are My Chances?

Depends on where you are in the process. There are a lot of boxes to check before having surgery. I started the process in early October, and I had my surgery December 19. I was able to move it faster than usual because it was close to the holidays. Most people don't want surgery around that time. But I really had to hustle to get all the pre-op testing completed - you'll need a fairly clean bill of health in most cases.
