PCOS and telling my friends
amandaseiders replied to lynnlee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That is so awesome to hear that people are losing even with PCOS! I am only 23 years old (24 in two months) and I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 15. I have it severely, I have only had a period 2-3 times in my life! I am set to have the sleeve surgery on June 4th so only a little over two weeks from now! I hope I have as great a success as you guys because I feel like nothing has ever worked for me... If you guys have any helpful tips or just want someone to talk to, feel free to message me! I am going to need all the support I can get! -
Hello! I have bad PCOS as well, went thru 3 years and 2 IUIs to have my oldest kiddo a few years ago because of it. I would go an entire year pretty much without a period. I was told I couldn't get pregnant because I was too fat -by a doctor- when I was first trying to get pregnant and couldn't figure out what was going on. I gained about 50-60lbs in just 4-5 months! I was 220lbs at that time. After having my 2 girls, who are 13 months apart, I had issues with stress and not having time and needed up gaining more. I had my sleeve done 2 weeks ago today, an although I'm dealing with major head hunger issues I'm still excited about what's to come. Day before surgery I weighed 264 and today I weigh 245. My highest weight was 270 and that was in January of this year, I went on a major diet and exercised as much I could with 2 toddlers and severe asthma and knee pain. Now I can't wait to get out and run . I am just now moving to the next stage for food, which for my doctor is purées but that includes so much more than you imagine it does at first. Oh btw I'm 25 . I never went out much, but I was a heavy drinker when I would go so I plan to avoid the situation as best I can. My biggest issue is the no more Motrin. Motrin was my best friend for my aches and pains and not being able to take any NSAIDs kinda sucks. But hey, you get to be so much healthier . How did your surgery go? And how are you doing now?

I had three drains and while they were in it wasn't painful. I was just very paranoid they would get hung on something and the little bulbs on the end of them were cumbersome. When they pulled them out, 2 of them didn't hurt, the last one (was so glad it was last) hurt, but it was more of an odd feeling as I guess it was really deep. Hardly any pain after. This was the first time I had drains in any surgery. Having a catheriter in was more bothersome. Hopefully you won't have them in long.

Surgery is one week from tomorrow! I can't get over the fear of the drain! The whole idea of it sticking out where I can see it and the thought of it being painful when in and when being pulled out scares the crap out of me! I know I stay two days in hospital and it will come out day 2.

My stall isn't nearly as drastic, but I'm super frustrated too. I'm 7.5 weeks out, I've stalled twice and this one has been about a week. Granted, I had REALLY bad nausea for over 2 weeks and barely ate or Frank anything or barely moved and I am sure that didn't help and maybe is the cause. But I've been eating and finally drinking the most fluids I have I think, ever. Since my surgery i had terrible pain for the first 3.5 weeks, I was ok for maybe a week and then I had the horrible nausea and NOW (yesterday!) I did something to my knee and am waiting for an appointment! And this was while I was getting exercise stuff. Lol I swear will I get to 1/4 of goal?! So resting the knee with ice, and I don't know if I should cut my calorie intake or leave alone so I don't confuse my body more! It's 700 or less, over 5 days average of 685, most being 730. Carbs no more than 36. Probably too high, as soon as I can start walking I'm going to, I ordered a sleeve for my knee for the future

So, I am currently in San Diego's Kaiser program, which in San Diego is a 6 month class that you go to weekly. I'm about six weeks in, and a friend came to me with an opportunity to see a Dr client of her's in Mexico for surgery instead of going through the class. They are offering me discounted rates and and payment plan I would need as a favor for my friend (who is the doctors personal trainer) I'm torn about this because I looked up the Doctor in the forums and people have had great experiences with him. I don't want to miss out on the opportunity if I could get the surgery quicker (it won't happen till after June if I stick with Kaiser), but Im just not sure. My initial thought is that since they want to help me, that I stick with Kaiser for the sleeve and since their office in Mexico also does full body lifts, that I ask for the deal on that later down the road. I don't know what to do...I guess Im just looking for thoughts or suggestions?? They were going to send me a quote for the surgery and lift after the fact....I suppose I just wait until I see what that is and go from there Thanks for reading my venting !!!!

I had fluid removed due to swelling from being sick. I gained a lot back and my doctor put me in the pre-op diet for 3 weeks to jump start me. It helped a lot!

When did you head back to the gym?

Soft aerobic workouts should be no problem. Treadmill, elliptical on low settings should be fine. Just no lifting, bending or stressing the abs for a few more weeks? -

I believe I am at 8 in 11 cc and feel restrictionif I eat too fast or too much but until Sunday didn't feel that much different and was very frustrated. Then Sunday I got stuck and had a bit of a pb episode and until this evening felt like I was in green zone but now not sure and not sure of it was due to pb or just it decided to work?!?. I read on here but can't find it - the week of/before your period it can be tight and I worry that is all it was - it was awesome though and gave me hope- now tonight back to being hungry :-(. My nurse practitioner said they have noticed this band seems to take more fills to get to green zone - she even has a lady at 10cc she said so there is hope, I'm thinking of going in next week and seeing of she will go w a 1/2 cc and hoping it will be perfect! Good luck everyone!

August 2012 Bandsters Progress
Lori Voss Green replied to sadollar11's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Banded on 8/7/12. Starting weight 304.5. Weight as for this morning is 271.8. While I wish it were MORE of a weight loss, I also realize almost 33 lbs in just over 6 weeks is nothing to take for granted. I have a concert/girls weekend get away the first weekend in November, and my goal is to be to 250 by then. I had my first fill on 9/20. I feel exactly the same as I did before the fill. I go back on October 5th. -
9 weeks out feeling worse. I should be happy but I'm not. I feel like I miss my fat. (Not that I'm skinny). I just miss the old me. I'm not as strong and family is giving me a hard time. I feel like I just want to be alone all the time and sleep. I push myself because I have to. I know I only have 6-8 months before my sleeve slows down or stops whatever it is but its a strugle every day. I feel so stupid. I can't seem to even except a compliment I brush it all off. I'm working out, that clears my head but as soon as I'm done it comes back. Even though I've always been overweight I have always worked out so this is not different. I'm down a total of 48 lb 35 since surgery. I feel like I'm going to fail all the time. I do speak to a therapist once a week for anxiety but this is so different. I've talked to her about it but I thought you guys might be feeling the same way and it might just be part of the process.

Can't Shake The Depression
Banned member replied to ljperez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been a emotional wreck since surgery and my husband has been my biggest support. I was talking to him today about me not being able to use food as a coping mechanism and not it's all flooding out. He's very understanding and over the past couple of weeks I've learned how to talk about whats upsetting me instead of trying to eat my emotions away. It is getting better everyday but I'm still learning how to cope. I will also admit that I'm scared to be skinny and all the attention it will bring. As much as I hate being fat, I'm scared of the unknown (being skinny). I'm not depressed but I do get anxious about the journey to losing weight. Maybe this is why I failed at weight loss attempts in the past, I was scared of having to face the issues that I have kept buried with food. -
Should the Moose Stay or Go?!
delta_girl replied to jan8j's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
My sister-in-law brought me a very small rectangular pillow the day after surgery. I named it Baby Pillow. It and I were best buds for about 4 weeks. Perfect for just a bit of support or to tuck together with a larger pillow. Don't know what I would have done without it. -

I think im on a stall already
Lia M replied to wpierce's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are about three weeks out, depending on what your doctor suggests, I was on puree type food then. So, refried beans were a nice go to for me. Cottage cheese has a ton of protein. Or try getting protein power unflavored. It all has somewhat of a flavor, but I put some in everything. Soups, Coffee , Cream of Wheat. -
How much liquids is actually enough?
FutureSkyDiver replied to Hiccup's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It will get better with time. At this point, just drink as much as possible right now. It will get easier quickly. I think I was up to the required 64oz within three or four days of returning from the hospital. -
Anyone else have this issue???
James Marusek replied to LauriDJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The surgeon's guidelines will vary between doctors and also in time. I had RNY gastric bypass surgery 4 years ago, and my direction was Full Liquids for first 4 weeks, Pureed Foods the next four weeks and only on week 9 was I permitted Solids. Your stomach needs adequate time to heal. Transitioning to harder foods can be hard. There is no need to rush things. Many individuals experience a strong desire to eat certain foods right after surgery. Someone coined the phrase Head Hunger to describe the condition. Integrated into each individual is a strong desire to chew. It is part of the digestive process. So after surgery when one is on liquids, that need is not being met. -
Anyone else have this issue???
JohnnyCakes replied to LauriDJ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hahaha.... that's funny. for the first 2 weeks after my surgery, i kept having head hunger for fried chicken too. nothing else. JUST fried chicken. it eventually went away and hasn't come back. and you're right about the dark meat. f**k that white meat s**t. -
I've had two fills so far the first one was 2 CC and the second was .5cc. I had 3 cc placed in my band during surgery so I have a total of 5.5cc. It seems like it's not that much and I would like to have another .5 cc fill on Monday. The concern is that I get stuck quite often and I have to throw up a few times a week. Not after every meal. I think it's because I eat the wrong foods or I eat too fast and don't chew enough. I don't want to get another fill if I don't need it but I don't really think I have restriction yet? Any advice?

I know they say no drink w meals, but is 2 oz. too much?
SkinnyCubanChick replied to Myndkandi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw my surgeon this week and he said the minimum amount of water makes the food slip through the band and that's not how the band works! Weight loss= NO WATER 1/2 hr before or 1/2 hour after! -
Sleeved on 1/8. Lost 14 pds the first week. and only 3 pds since then... so frustrated! I'm getting all of my water and protein in, keeping calories and carbs low. -- not hard considering the little amount we can consume. Tell me this is happening to others too, and that it will end!

My boobs got the memo...Wish my butt did too!
stefaniwg replied to Reigo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that is will come in time but I'm in the same situation. I run a 5k 3-5 times a week and I have thighs, hips and booty for days. My boobs on the other hand have shrank tremendously!
