  1. I know logically 2 pounds a week is great! And I know that a few “extra” calories a day isn’t going to make me gain back 70 pounds overnight. But some days I’m just not feeling logical. 🤷🏻‍♀️
  2. I hear you! I also drink less liquids, especially wearing a mask and having to take it off to drink. I don’t know what to say about not being able to use the restroom as much as you want… Maybe talk with your principal or colleagues about being able to go at least every 60 to 90 minutes? Do you like fish? If so, perhaps a nearby grocery store seafood counter will cook your fish for free? I get a little over a half a pound of fish on Sundays, and then divide it up into five containers. I top the fish with different beans each week, and a little shredded cheese. Microwave for 20 seconds and you’re set! Easy! Cheap, quick! Baking chicken breast and cutting it up over the weekend would do the same thing. In addition to protein bars, you could keep grocery store chicken pouches in your classroom. Good luck! 😀
  3. I'm going to Italy late next month and I'll be about 3.5 months out. My plan is to have protein at the hotel breakfast as much as possible and then a lot of shareable meals and snacks so that my husband can eat most of it. My understanding is that it's okay to not order all three courses but it's also a little rude to order only an antipasto, so I'm hoping that ordering three courses between the two of us will be fine. You could also stay at an Airbnb and cook for yourself; this wasn't feasible for my situation but could work for you. Whoops, just noticed that you might be on a cruise! My nutritionist is totally on board with me trying a little pizza, pasta, and gelato--it is vacation after all--but to also focus on protein where possible, drink lots of water, and get right back on track when back home. If you want to remind me in mid December, I'll be happy to share my experiences!
  4. I stayed 1 night at the hospital. Supposed to be 2 but I was doing well. I was off work for a month. I didn't need to be off that long, I could have gone back after 2 weeks but my surgeon didn't release me until a month. They wanted me to focus on my recovery and new habits. I will say I was very very tired 2 weeks out. After my abdominal block wore off it was difficult to sleep so I took a lot of naps. I went back to work this week and I'm so tired after working its not even funny. I can definitely tell that even though physically I'm not in pain I still get worn out. Plus mentally I don't feel like myself. Not because I regret anything- this was the best decision I ever made. But your hormones and vitamin levels change. You eat less food so your body is like WTF you doing? I was told it can take up to 3 months to feel "normal". Don't stress yourself out by trying to go back to work early. The beauty of surgery is there is FMLA and short term disability. Take the time you need to focus on YOU. Your job will be there when you are ready.   6. You'll know a lot closer to then what you can and can't eat. Some people can't eat steak, because it's too dry. Some people can't eat pasta or bread because it expands too much in their pouch. Everyone is different. I will say this, though... you're likely not to be able to come anywhere close to eating an entire three-course Italian meal. If you don't speak Italian, you might want to take a little card with you that says something like Mi hanno operato allo stomaco e non posso mangiare molto. Per favore, mi serva piccole porzioni.

    Wow Mammysm, you’ve been through it all! You are the first person I know that is having SADI! I have a friend who is almost ready for the DS. I haven’t been great with my liquid diet but I’m hoping my lower BMI will help it. My old house (which we care for meticulously) decided to act up this week (blown outlet and for extra fun a HEATING OIL LEAK INSIDE THE HOUSE!) This is my last try. My RNY is scheduled and I’m 62 and so tired of not being able to move without being in pain. you at least know how to do this so remember you can! Third time’s the charm, remember? 💗

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

    Hello Teri...I'm scheduled for the Sadi on Oct. 25, 2021...are you on a liquid diet . ? I'm on week 2 of it..I am doing ok I guess, I think I get disgusted with the choices (or should I say lack of) so I opt to not eat anything because nothing thrills me....How are you doing with this if you are going this lovely route.. Long story short...I have tried it all..and this is my last chance to Onederland....I've had the Lapland that was really horrible when I had to carry a Barf bag with me everywhere...ofcourse junk food went down good. Didnt loose a whole bunch. Had that removed...got the sleeve , felt great but didn't loose a real lot with that either ..had it checked, not stretched...just my luck...anyhow...Dr. says this is my last resort....not sure if it can happen..got alot of adhesions and lost some small intestines from previous misfortune....but will see when he looks...I pray it can happen for me.. And guess that's my story in a nutshell.. I'm from Maine...relatively healthy for my age...tired of being this big... I wish you the very best with your surgery on the 25th...saw you with the same date so grabbed the opportunity...Waiting in Maine

    Looking for Surgery People 60 and UP

    Hi, I am 64 and had gastric sleeve surgery on September 1. I'm also interested in seeing what results people over 60 are getting, although I know there are a variety of factors. I feel that I am losing slower due to my age. I've lost 38 lbs in 8 and 1/2 weeks (counting the pre-op loss of 15 lbs in 10 days). How much exercise and what kind are you getting?

    September Surgery Buddies!!

    Hi all! First time posting. RnY surgery was Sept 15th and so far I'm down 40 lbs total. I'm so glad to hear I'm not alone with the stall because I have been getting so discouraged. No issues getting protein or water in. I consider myself very lucky with my recovery. I haven't had any issues eating anything but eggs- which I didn't really tolerate before surgery so no big loss.     Before and After Pics

    Since I am now halfway between my heavy weight and my goal weight, I thought I'd show myself. I lost 26 lbs. on my own, then 9 lbs. on the pre-op diet, and 41 lbs. so far since surgery (five weeks ago). I only "see" the changes when I look at before-and-after pictures. I'm starting to see what I'll look like further along and I ain't mad about it. 76 lbs. down, 76 to go.

    I'll echo what others have said: the 3 week stall is REAL. There are THOUSANDS of posts here from folks who stall somewhere between week 3-6 for 1-3 weeks, sometimes more. Your body is likely rebounding from surgery and catching up with all the changes. Give it time, be patient, stay the course, follow your plan. It won't last forever, and it will happen again. Its all just part of the process. If its taxing you mentally, maybe take a week or two break from the scale. Take body measurements for a couple weeks instead, or use photos to track progress. Remember that the scale is only ONE measure of progress, other things can be just as valuable. Lastly, a TRUE stall is generally considered 3+ weeks; 4 days is absolutely nothing. You're right where you're supposed to be!

    Mind Games (in my own mind)

    I'm 4 weeks PO and have the exact same internal argument all day every day. Weeks 1 & 2 I lost 6lbs each, week 3 was barely 2lbs and I pitched a fit. Its been really helpful to read the stories and experiences of other folks though, it helps me remember that everyone is different, everyone goes at their own pace, and all of the WTF moments are completely normal. I'm really focusing on my mental health as well, working on my relationship with food and my body, etc. Because it is such a mind game, regardless of what the scale says, I want to be HEALTHY, including internally. Just know, you're absolutely not alone!

    There's absolutely no way 600-700 calories wouldn't lead to loss in an adult. Stalls happen! You might want—this is such perverse logic but it works for some people—to increase your calories by 100-150 just for a week. It won't be enough to put you anywhere near maintenance, but it might break the stall. I broke my 3-week stall with the help of a dietitian by adding 100 calories of carbohydrate. To @CtotheTina - the 3-week-stall is legendary around here. It happens to most people and there are almost 20,000 posts on this site alone about it. It's your body getting used to the new normal and doing some fluid rebalancing. It will break within a week or two, just keep following your program.

    Alcohol is a Transfer Addiction !!

    Thank you so much for sharing your story. I read it a few months back and revisiting with a reply and saying out loud that I have a problem. I've been transparent with my BF, fam and close friends that I'm struggling...but hiding how bad it can get. Last night was a sure sign of transfer addiction and will be seeking help. I'm 5.5 years out and over the last two years have gained 50lbs. I stopped working out and have been holding around the same weight the last 6 months. I can't seem to get the ME back that was so focused. My Dad passed away in 2019 and to cope, I started leaning on wine and drinking (as did my Siblings) Then during 2020 covid, I was drinking during the week, sometimes alone when my SO was at work and often a bottle of wine all by myself. I was able to get back some control in 2021, but find myself sneaking drinks and hiding my evidence. Last night, for no good reason I had wine delivered and drank 1.5 bottles of wine after BF went to work. I know the next steps will be therapy to figure out the triggers and coping skills. Again, thanks for posting your story to inspire me to address this problem before it's too late. I worked so hard to be healthy and I'm sabotaging my future self.

    September Surgery Buddies!!

    i have never learned how to reply to specific posts, but I sent CtotheTina21 a PM. Today I begin my 8th week, and i have been in my second stall (since the 3rd week) and have not lost any weight in a week. I'm hoping this period will pass like the third week did, but overall I was hoping to have lost more than 38 lbs (since starting pre-op) by this point. I get my water and protein grams in as assigned, and always maintain the time distance between drinking and eating. So I think I'm following the rules, but am eating between 600-700 calories a day, and wonder if this is too many for my age (64) and activity (I walk or do stationary bike for 30 minutes a day). How many calories are people eating 8 weeks after a gastric sleeve? How much daily exercise? thanks

    September Surgery Buddies!!

    I am five weeks and one day post-op and down 41 lbs. from surgery weight, 50 from before the pre-op diet, and 76 from my heaviest. My incisions have all healed except one that looks a little bit herniated. My surgeon said he'd look at it at my six-week appointment on Tuesday, but didn't sound overly concerned since there's no pain. I had a slowdown (not really a stall, just a significant slowdown in weight loss) for two weeks but now appear to be back on the loss rollercoaster. My dietitian told me to start eating small portions of carbohydrates (potatoes, etc.) because apparently my system doesn't function well on protein-only. This has had the added benefit of relieving my constipation, so I no longer need to take docusate. I'm on about 1000 calories a day, which seemed high to me, but the dietitian pointed out that my activity level is more intense than many bariatric patients, PLUS I return to my physical job next week. I am completely off my blood pressure medications and my blood pressure is usually around 125/70 or 125/75. Not high enough for my primary care physician to be concerned, especially since I still have weight to lose. I also am on half the dose of antidepressant I was on (and feel great), and I need to make an appointment with my sleep clinic because I think my CPAP either needs to be dialed way down, or just simply eliminated. I am allowed to return to lifting weights (slowly) next week, so I have been running. I spent the first two weeks just walking, then did short (~100 m) jogs to get my body used to it. I am now on week 3 of Couch-to-5K and my mile time has gone down by almost four minutes since pre-op. I am with you on the mental portions. I have been trying to train myself to be willing to throw away food rather than finish it just to be polite. I am looking for a therapist to help me through this. I am discovering what foods fill me up and what foods "slide" through me. Today I met a friend for coffee and ordered ricotta toast. Ended up with an absolutely enormous slab of sourdough with what had to be 250 grams of ricotta on it. I ate two bites and was done, and am still full two hours later. But if I eat, say, a hamburger patty, it just goes right down. Absolutely zero regrets. I wish I'd done this 10-15 years ago.

    Regret and Depression

    Hi! I was just wondering how you were feeling these days? Have you found the regret and depression have lessened? I am 2.5 weeks out from a lapband to bypass conversion and still having quite a bit of regret. Hoping it will just go away in time
  20. It is normal to be thinking like you are. I think most of us do the same thing. It looks like you lost most of the easy weight before surgery. Many of us lose a bunch in the preop diet and the rest of the easy stuff in the first month post op then it slows down considerably. After my 3 week stall which lasted 2.5 weeks I am back to losing about 4 or 5 pounds a week. I anticipate that slowing down considerably as I pass 2 months post op. I obsess over weight from day to day and I know I shouldn't be looking at it every day but I do anyway. I find if I UNDER EAT then my body holds on to the weight a little more, like I am going into starvation preservation internally. I upped my calorie intake from 750-800 to 850-900 and it seems like the weight is coming off again. I tinker with things when I slow down to see if I can get it going again. The nutritionist is good about giving ideas on what to try.
  21. a two-lb a week loss is pretty common after the first month or so. So you're doing fine!
  22. I would think so. Three lbs could due to just water retention - or constipation. Of course I'm not the surgeon, but a two or three lb daily fluctuation is pretty common....so I personally wouldn't think anything of someone being a couple of pounds "up".
  23. This whole process really screws with your mind. I'm 10 weeks out. This is what goes on in my head constantly. I lost 50 pounds before surgery and "only" 25 since. Woot! I lost 75 pounds total. I'm "only" losing two pounds a week. OMG I'm losing TWO pounds a week!! I don't feel like I look like I lost 70 pounds. Oh wow! My belt went from one notch to 5!! I feel the restriction. I don't feel the restriction. Maybe I'm eating too much and stretched out my pouch. I gained a half pound in one day...must be water. I gained a half pound in one day...I'm going to have to go back to my old clothes! I gained a half pound? I probably look exactly as I did day 1. What if this doesn't work? I ruined my life. I'm so glad I had this surgery. I'd never be able to continue losing weight and keep it off.......and repeat.
  24. I'm 59 and had RNY in August. No major issues to speak of. I was pretty sore the first few days and very tired the first two weeks...but everyone has those issues. It's not an "age" thing. Good luck!

    @echubbythighs I'm about a week behind you and feeling very similarly. Thankfully recovery has been mostly smooth, save for one episode of "the foamies" last week that nearly undid me. Apparently, chili is still off the table for now. I'm switching to a capsule multivitamin next week when I run out of the chewable I have; since surgery they are disgusting and make me gag. I'm down about 18lbs since surgery, 37 total. It feels slower than I'd hoped, but I know that's a mental thing and I continue to work on my mental health/body image/self care stuff. SO MUCH of this journey is mental, it can be overwhelming. I got back on the treadmill this week, for the first time since surgery. I feel slow and unsteady, but it was good to move my body and work up a sweat. Glad you're doing well and making progress!
