  1. The pain is from a hole being left where the port was. Your body fills it up with fluid trying to heal it and this causes swelling and pressure. Mine even looked like the end of a football sticking out (tiny volcano lol). Thirteen days since my revision surgery and I finally got out of bed without feeling sore this morning.
  2. I was a band to sleeve revision done in 2 surgeries. I didn't completely follow your questions... Where is the pain? Mine was the hole left by the port removal, it was sore, left an empty spot that reminded me of my failure. When you say the pain is deep, do you mean it is intense or? Some women are triggered to start a period by surgery. I wouldn't overly stress on that. I have no idea what you mean about the Water going through...through what? I set baby water goals those early days....little sips at a time. This is the hardest thing at first, but it gets better.

    Achalasia

Well, my doctor now wants me to have a revision to RNY. I suffer from borderline achalasia. Luckily the lower part of my esophagus opens and closes correctly so I can have the surgery. If I had a full blown achalasia situation he couldn't do any surgery. I cannot have the vertical sleeve because of this though. I basically suffer from horrible acid reflux because my esophagus spasms really bad. I tried everything with the band and went in for fills every 3 weeks because he had trouble filling (under fluoroscopy) because my esophagus would not hold still. He has stated the band has failed. I am five years out. It's a long story as to why this was not caught earlier but suffice it to say in the last year I have been very regimented with the band and it will not work for me. I am truthfully scared about the RNY but I just cannot get the weight off. I have the realize band and my doctor won't even use the realize band anymore. Anyone else deal with this issue? It is depressing. I had the band put in when it was all the rage and I should have thought about the fact that it didn't have enough statistics. I feel stupid but I also feel misled. This was never a side effect my original surgeon said could happen. And I don't know if the band caused the problem or if it was always there. But if it was always there, why didn't he catch it during the barium swallow? I am just bummed out. I absolutely detest this band. A friend of mine had a band placed two days after I had surgery and she lost a ton of weight and is doing great. I so wanted it to work. Now I just want it out. I hope that even if I cannot have RNY they can remove the band. I am worried it will erode or slip next.
  4. I was talking to the practice manager where I plan on having my revision done if/when Aetna decides to cover the VSG. I was approved for a revision back in Nov'09 to replace my band, they were not able to and could only remove the band, my port is still in place. She said that I may have to do a supervised diet to get approved for another revision. That really confuses me because it would seem as if I should already be covered by the Nov'09 approval. Anybody else have to jump through any special hoops? I think I'm going to make an appt for my PCP just to get my weight logged for the month.
  5. I'm curious about the slips too. One of my coworkers had a slip and had to have a revision surgery. She still doesn't regret it because she lost 50 lbs, got off her BP meds and got rid of her sleep apnea. She just told me to be careful and hope to have better luck than she did.

    Feel like im losing slow

My revision was done March 6 and I have only lost 21 lbs! The whole month of April I only lost 1 pound!! I'm afraid that I won't lose anymore
  7. I could defiantly have it worse but i had my sleeve placed on the 15th of July and one month later i went to the er with pain on my right side... Afraid it was paincritist or gullbladder (spelling sucks), we found out my endo-oscopy that my new sleeve had flipped and flopped rightside up i had a revision and had my new sleeve stapped and sewed to my muscles in my and around my abdomen walls. Now that this has been done I feel so much worse off than before. I was expecting for the same results and now i just regret my decision altogether wishingi never did this Sorry jist a,little rant :/

    Full feeling? Band Vs. Sleeve

I'm 5mos post op revision. And I think it was the best thing I've even done. I have more restriction with the sleeve, than I did with the band. The only issue I've had with the sleeve was when I started eating solids, I had neck/shoulder pain after I ate. That lasted for about 6wks. I'm good now.

    My story

Hi there, and welcome. Goodness, you are a beautiful girl and have achieved amazing results with the band. I had great results the first year I had mine. Then, like you, I started having problems. My surgeon was wonderful and we tried everything, but after two years of misery we both agreed that for whatever reason, my body had just developed an intolerance to the band. That is why I revised to the sleeve. I hope you are able to find success with your new doctor. It helps having one who cares and will actually listen to and talk with you to help resolve your issues. I am keeping my fingers crossed for your continued success with the band.
  10. If I understand you right one of the doctors wants to keep you filled with a slip? And work with you? If that is correct, RUN in the other direction unless he can scientifically prove you will be OK in the long term....slips often result in worse complications from what I have been reading for the past 3 years and experiencing for the past year. Please let us know what you decide to do....I went for the unfill and revision. Best wishes, Mimi

You're reading studies about the old lapband from 15 years ago. There are 3 different versions of the band and the most recent version has a much lower revision rate. http://www.lifeshape.net/blog/2013/02/study-demonstrates-the-long-term-benefit-of-laparoscopic-adjustable-gastric-banding/

BMI 35 or lower. Would you sleeve or bypass?

I was a revision from band to bypass. I never even considered the sleeve. I only wanted one last surgery.. After seeing the sleeve to bypass revision board I knew I would only do the bypass.. And I love it
  13. i haven't considered a revision but i have considered a reversal. i have had nothing but trouble with my band over the past 2 years. yes, i've lost 60% of my weight but it's been at a very high cost. i now have severe acid reflux and my stomach folds over the band if i get the slightest fill. i have a 10cc band and only have 4.4cc in right now. at one point i had around 5.5cc but was constantly throwing up from the acid reflux. *sigh* my fills and unfills have been (thankfully) covered under my initial surgery fee but my 2 year anniversary is coming up and that means i have to start paying for my fills and unfills. i'm aggravated. i'm sad. i'm scared. but my doctor considers me a "success story".

    Bcbs

I hve bcbs and had surgery on 10/29 bcbs I got thief policy and there were revisions to the policy. As a matter of fact bcbs approves faster than any insurance I seen on the boards.
  15. I'm a former bander also. I had the Lap-band done Sept 2007, and lost 30 lbs in the beginning then the port flipped so April 2008 I had to have a surgery to move the port, then I got pregnant in 2009 and when they removed the Fluid for the pregnancy they pierced the tubing so after 2 babies back to back they did another surgery to repair the port and I've had nothing but pain since then so I finally got a revision, 12/6/13. My surgeon removed the band and I opted for the sleeve. 15 days post-op and I finally feel normal again, so I am so excited about the sleeve and the journey ahead in weight loss.

    Un-fill Lapband before Sleeve Surgery?

I was unfilled in December 2012 because I was having such a hard time with adjustments, again. I've always had a hard time getting the right fill. My surgeon unfilled me because he knew that I was leaning towards a revision and the since the band wasn't working for me anyway...... My sleeve date is April 18. I have zero restriction and no intolerances. So, I've gained a lot. I'm ready for my 2nd chance at permanent healthy weight loss with the sleeve.
  17. My dr recommended that I have an unfill 2 weeks prior to the revision which I did today surgery actually 5/31. There is some pretty rough side effects. I instantly had heartburn and my throat started hurting? I've been burping ever since and it does seem weird. I actually had 6.4cc when I thought I only had 5.9cc in my band. Hmmmm i just miss eating meat! this is going to be interesting.....
  18. I am looking into revising from a banded plication. I initially lost about 60 pounds but lost restriction about 6 months after the plication. I originally wanted to revise to a sleeve (from the band) but was nervous about the procedure and my previous doctor was not very supportive of me revising from the band to the sleeve at that time. I wish I would've researched more but plication was so new here in the U.S. at the time. Now I will be undergoing another procedure, but hopefully this will be my final WLS! Good luck to you! Jenn
  19. Hi Dani, If I were having issues with my band, I'd not hesitate to revise to a different procedure. I'd work with my PCP and surgeon (both of whom I love) to decide which was best. Best wishes! I hope you are feeling better soon!
  20. I had gone in and had an unfill hoping that would help with complications I was having. The next day I went in for emergency surgery and they did the revision at the same time. I think you would want to deflate the band as soon as possible just help keep stomach swelling down but I guess they can do the surgery even if the band is full.
  21. I'm pretty sure that's what my nurse said in the nutrition class the day before surgery. That they take out the stretchy part of ur stomach so while u CAN stretch it a little, it can never be stretched to more than 8oz. I'm hoping this is true. I'm 5 mths post op. When I started eating solids at 8 weeks, I could eat maybe 5-6 bites of any given meal. It's grown monthly to now - I can eat 10-12 bites of any given meal. I've been maintaining for 2 mths ( lost 22 lbs the 1st 3 mths. I knew it would come off slower since I started at 174 - I was a band revision). I still have 22 lbs to go to my goal but I decided before Thankgiving that I would maintain until after the holidays then on Jan 2nd, I would go full force to get the last 22 lbs off. Then I think it should be fairly easy to maintain. Unless of course, I can eat 20 bites in the next 5 mths. Seemed to double. Hope it doesn't continue to double. I'm actually a little surprised that I've doubled my intake and haven't gained any weight... Yeah. Has anyone else heard this?
  22. Well, right now the scars are pretty red since I'm only out 13 weeks fromthe revision. They had started to fade to pink in May before the revision. They don't look that bad, just long.It goes from my arm pit to my elbow. It doesn't show much anyway unless I'm raising my arms. It doesn't bother me if people see it. The scar looks better than the hanging skin and fat, especially with sleeves on and clothes fit better! For me, since I had a face lift with the original surgery, the arms were a breeze. The face wasn't so easy, especially the eyes. They felt like someone was stabbin me with needles! With the revision, there was very little pain at all. After both surgeries I waited 3 months to do any real lifting at all just to be sure everything was healed up. I went back to work 2 weeks after the first surgery. It wasnt' too bad but I did have to put on lots of makeup to cover the bruising on my face. I looked like someone had beat me up! Anna R

Everything is a damn waiting list & it seems like in order for me to get anywhere a little faster is to go into a shelter with 3 kids. Only time will tell the out come of what I'm going to actually do cuz I'm honestly trying to avoid a housing project and the shelter.
  24. My original posting was on the LB talk site but have never liked it because so many people talk to you like you're a freak of nature when you say the band hasn't worked for you or you've had complications, you get the whole "you're doing it wrong" "what do you eat" responses. I guys, any thoughts on Lapband removal and going to sleeve? I was banded April 2008 and have many complications over the last few years from GI issues to slippage causing weight gain. Spoke to my doctor today originally thinking of going to gastric bypass, but after much discussion of how I am dedicated to working out, counting calories and portion control, that he feels the sleeve would be a better option for me to lose the weight Ive gained and help me obtain my goal weight with out dealing with the complications of re routing intestines and malobsobtion. Here's the break down: I had never really considered the sleeve only because I had read that those who failed with the band would fail with the sleeve. And with my track record lol... Let see banded April 2008, lost about 30lbs in 10months Bad break up on Feb 2009 prompted the run/drink water/smoke diet and lost 40lbs or so in 2months. April 2009 got life back on track and was less depressed so was able to eat and hold down food and gained 60lbs in 6months Aug 2010 went back to nutritionist and was put on phentramine (yet have lb but still needed diet pills) and lost 30lbs in 6months. July 2011 delt with slight weight gain and possible ulcer Nov/Dec 2011 nearly hospitalized from GI issues and had ever test they could think of to figure out what was wrong with me and scoped from WMD to end. Off phentramine March 2012 learned my band had slipped which wa cause of a lot of the issues my GI doctor was trying to figure out. And band unfilled and began discussions on revision to gastric bypass May 2012 band looked better had partial fill and more talks about revision, up 7lbs, back to other doctor an put back on phentramine weightloss program July 2012 gained another 13lbs and another fill, stated to start researching revison options. Got personal trainer at gym for 2xs a month work out for extra support. Still on phentramine Aug 2012 down 3lbs, still having issues with band, can't lay on stomach because port site hurts, can't do certain work outs because it hurts to twist. Still not much restriction but fear tha because my band is tighter when I stress that any fill can cause issues. Discussed my fears of gastric and my doctors/my fears that of band is completely removed I will gain even more back and then some. Doctor recommended sleeve over bypass. So yes I've been looking into it for awhile, I'm doing everything that has been asked of me and then some to lose the weight and keep gaining the min I'm off diet pills and sometimes even when on them. Doctor expressed that believes its my intolerance to certain healthy foods (the good Fiber ones) is a big problem, cant have a salad or fresh veggies with out getting stuck, sliming or PBing. So that's why I'm torn, hadn't given much thought to the sleeve before it scared me more than bypass until I read all the horror stories of it and heard stories from friends who knew people who died from gastric complications months after surgery. I've spent 4hours yesterday just reading and researching and so far the sleeve really does seem like the best option. The idea to continue to have a tool to help me control my weight gain and the ability to eat a salad at the same time with out being in pain or throwing up sounds heavenly lol So that's where I am at lol

    Band To Sleeve - Thoughts?

I'm nervous and excited. Doctor has extra steps he makes his client take than just the insurance requirements for the revision, which is frustrating because I'd like it out last week lol. I'm miserable and in so much pain. But I'm happy to be gettin it removed. Looks like it'll take another 3-4mos. Wish I would have made my decision back in march so I would have it done already lol
