    LAP-Band Veteran HELP!

I'm a band to sleeve patient. I do like the sleeve but there are quite a few people that have posted who were very successful with the band and revised to the sleeve and their hunger is worse. And those that weren't successful with the band ( myself included) do better with the sleeve. The people who were successful with the band seem to do better with bypass. This is just info I've gotten from other people posting. Good luck to you

    Choose wisely!

Hey how is Steve? Did he have his revision surgery in Chicago?

They are doing a revision because of problems im having so maybe that will jump start the weight loss!

    Candy cane syndrome

Living on soft foods and soups. I will find out this Thursday about having revision surgery. I am so sick of throwing up. What is the recovery time?
  5. I had LapBand surgery in September of 2013 and I lost a total of 24 pounds and gained back 10. I am aware that I contributed to the fail but I am feeling like the discomfort I feel when I eat only makes me mad and discouraged. I am going to see my doctor to inquire about revision to the sleeve. Love your post!
  6. I'm hoping to revise from band to sleeve in June. I already had a planned one week stay action before I decided to do this, so I'm hoping I can have surgery that week. My question is, when I had band surgery I had a pretty easy recovery, only took pain mess the first 2.5 days, and was getting bored at home by day 5. Is this surgery more painful? Is 7 days enough. I do have a physical job. And sometimes have to lift large dogs and such, I'm an LVT. I am not telling anyone at work about surgery, I'll just tell them I can't lift because I hurt my back or something. So I'm just curious if I'll be in more pain.
  7. I am so happy to have had this surgery. Absolutely no regrets. I have ups and downs like everyone, but I've never had a down bad enough that I've regretted this procedure. Mine was mostly covered (a revision from unsuccessful lap band), but if I knew then how I'd feel now, I would have found a way to pay had it not been. Its changed my life for the better. Good luck with your decision.

    Candy cane syndrome

I had the candy cane deformity. I had surgery and they removed 4 inch limb. They dialated my opening 2 times due to vomiting and nausea. I now have to have a revision. Ive been on liquids for 6 weeks almost. Are you able to eat?
  9. I am not losing weight. I had surgery 1/26 at 265. As of 4/15, I am 248. I feel so depressed and I am SO disappointed. Yes. I am having NSVs. But I am also still really fat and this tool doesn't seem to be working. When I go back to my surgeon, I am considering revision to bypass. Please any advice is welcome. I feel miserable.
  10. I after 3 attempts of fixing a afferent limb and dilating my opening have to have a revision. I cant eat food been on liquids for 6 weeks my hairs coming out again and stay exhausted. Does anyone know how long it takes tricare to approve or deny. Its funny that i had my surgery done at a medical center. Im glad this time i was referred to a civilian.
  11. While I'm not a human nurse, I am a LVT (licensed veterinary technician). I work ER , 10 hours shifts. I rarely get a real break. I'm not sleeved yet, but I do have band currently (which I hope to be revising in June). That is the real hard part for me. I don't get to sit down to eat. My surgeon is like you have to sit down for at least 20 minutes to eat. It's the law. Yeah sure, when we are slammed and pets are crashing, I'll get right on that. Which is I think the problem is why I graze at work. This is something I have to work on.

    Nerves

Yes that is prob my main concern too ! I finally gotten over my fear of being kidnapped by drug cartels or shot by random gunfire lol and I'm more comfortable with the flight though it's not my favorite thing to do but I'm still left worrying about 1) post op complications and 2) I worry it won't work for me since I'm a revision. I don't have anyone set up to follow up with at home so there is that as well. I know they do leak tests and I plan to do an excessive post op diet (with my sleeve I did 4 whole weeks of liquids!) to make sure I heal really well ! I'll prob do that again this time too just so I don't take any chances of eating too soon ! Other than that it's just really playing the odds ! Thankfully only a 1% chance of a leak are pretty good odds ! Lol
  13. My breast implants are Allergan brand and under warranty that is honored here in the US. I am in need of a revision (my drastic weight re-gain and re-loss cause my left implant to become malpositioned) and had a consult with a US doctor who told me that Allergan would replace the implants for free, even though the malpositioning has nothing to do with a defect of any sort! As for my post-op complications, I had swelling of the soft tissue in my lower back. My surgeon and my PCP communicated directly about my treatment. It was my PCP that provided documentation for me to be able to miss additional work, but my surgeon stayed "in the loop" the whole time. I had discussed the surgery with my PCP prior to going to Mexico, so she was prepared to handle any follow-up care. You should definitely do the same. And as for drains, I stayed in Mexico a two full weeks post-op and had my drains removed the morning of my flight home.
  14. This is what worries me as i have developed GERD since being sleeved. It's currently under control via meds, but surgeon advised if it gets worse i will have to have a bypass to rectify it. I so do not want another operation as already i have had a revision - lapband to sleeve. I am just not mentally ready for another surgery. Please keep us posted. Wish you all the best with your weight loss journey.
  15. I love my band and feel successful although I would still like to lose another twenty or so pounds. Exercise, for me, is imparative because of arthritis, etc. I eat two to three healthy meals a day, avoid sliders, chew very well and experience the food rather than wolfing it down as I did before. My surgeon was of the small frequent fills to get me to the correct restriction (wrong word to use but you know what I mean). I have twice gone in for tiny unfills when I felt the first signs of being too tight. For now it's just right. I drink a lot of liquids and can do that without any discomfort (glugging my water). I don't count calories and I eat when I'm hungry and don't eat when I'm not hungry. It's the first one that can be the most difficult as I was a very restrictive professional dieter going into this process. Now I feel hunger and eat until I feel full. My signal is a sigh. I notice, take inventory and I'm done. Sometimes I count off on my fingers 4-5 hours and note the time at which I might feel hungry again. Alcohol certainly hinders weight loss but I indulge for pain relief and enjoyment. Reading through this thread it seems like things got off on the wrong foot. Best wishes with your research. My surgeon is great but he does not discuss the banded life and I suspect has no real idea of how to guide patients in the post-op realm. I got that here when it was Lapband Talk. I found the successful banders and followed them. Now the site is mostly other surgeries and that's a bit discouraging sometimes as the revision folks post so much about their negative band experiences. I love my band.

    Accidental Sip

I was told by the nurses in my pre op class the REAL reason they tell people to stay away from carbonation is because it is a "gateway drug." You have one SMALL sip and next thing you know you've lost all will power. They had recently seen a woman who was coming in for revision from the sleeve to full bypass because she started just the way you did, a sip at a party. She then figured since it didn't have a negative effect she could have it. Fast forward she was drinking a 2 liter a day and had completely undone everything the surgeon had done for her. You need to ask yourself, is it REALLY worth the risk?

    Surgery Scheduled for March

@Karina150: How cool of you to check in. You've done great! How are you feeling? I've had complications with my band, sadly, so I'm not a success story in that I'm not at my goal. But I am pleased with the weight I did lose before my complications set in. I'm now a "traditional dieter" just making sure my lost weight stays lost, but that's ok. I'm not looking to ever revise--that's certain--and will have to take the rest of my weight off the old-fashioned way. Too bad, because when my band worked, it was AMAZING! Anxious to hear from the rest of this cohort.

    Resleeve

Wow! What a crazy situation. Your band doc wants to do a sleeve revision, and your sleeve doc wants mini bypass.... makes my head spin, lol. I really don't know anyone that has had a revision to their sleeve, but I know that it can be done. Did your Sleeve doc give you a reason for making the sleeve so large? I'm not sure I would want to go back to him if I were already dissatisfied with the prior surgery he did. I wonder if you might get some better answers in the Revision section here. I wish I could help you out, Maybe someone will have some solid advice for you.

    Converting from Sleeve to Bypass?

I too am looking at a revision due to gerd. I had a barium swallow and will have an endoscopy In May. I had surgery oct 2013
  20. I hate to alarm you but something is definitely not right. She should be back in the hospital and a doctor who specializes in sleeve surgery should probably do an endoscopy to see what's going on. She should also be hooked up to an IV for fluids as well as an eating tube until they figure this out. Too much time has passed for her not to be getting any better. I would get a different doctor involved. As a mom myself I sympathize what you must be going through. As someone who had the lapband 7 years ago and was revised to the sleeve a few months ago- I'm no doctor but feel very strongly that this is not a normal recovery
  21. The first part of the MGB is actually the sleeve, they just do the second part which is the bypass. You can revise to anything from the sleeve so I'm not sure why your surgeon would say such a thing, from the sleeve you can revise to rny, MGB, DS and even a lapband if you want.

    Mini gastric bypass anyone?

I have long been a fan of the MGB, but had no insurance that would cover it. My dr. told me that after the Sleeve, nothing else could be done. How is it that you can revise to the MGB?

    Need advice:

I had the sleeve in 2012, now looking at revision. I was a slow loser and while a lot of people do great, I was one of the ones on the 50-70 % range for weight loss. I had a baby gained and have not been able to loss since. I also developed a terrible case of acid reflux. I am scheduled for endoscopy in May. Just went through barium swallow...I have seen people do really well with sleeve. I just wasn't one of them. I worked out, tracked went to my scheduled Nut visits. I am disappointed no one wants to have a revision.
  24. Yes, Yes, & Yes. I've had two Lapbands & now in the Pre-Op stage of a Revision (Sleeve).
