5 month anniversay
tony031469 replied to tony031469's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Pre op was hard. 2 weeks of following the plan to the T. Lost 16 pounds pre op. I walk alot. I started working out today as a matter of fact. Elliptical and free weights. I'm using a gym in my building. It's free for employees. So I don't have a trainer but they do have posters all around of different exercises. I eat alot of yogurt, Turkey burgers, and Protein bars. I can pretty much eat anything but those are my favorite. Once I have my 6 month follow up I will definitely try other foods. Oh and I like eating Cereal with no milk. Make sure you stick with your plan that your doctor give you. Good luck Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App -

Am I Cheating
♥LovetheNewMe♥ replied to futuresize8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did beef and chicken broth, jello, cranberry and grape juice during my clear liquid stage. It really does not last that long and I did do the lower sodium types during this stage. Full liquids is much easier, cream soups, thin yogurt and some protein shakes makes it a little easier. do not expect to lose weight during this initial phase, you will lose some but you will be eating some foods that later will be considered sliders, cream soups, ice cream, etc I also ate a gew sugarfree popcycles during this stage.. -
I went through that for my first 3 weeks. I would swallow but right when it hit my stomach it would hurt then go away. It only bothered me when it was cold stuff. Hot stuff or room temperature never gave me this problem. I was told by my RN this is normal. It's swollen tissue that has to heal. No medication can treat it. So I started pinching my ear lobe when it would happen to help with the pain. As for the protein shakes if it makes you vomit don't drink it. You need to find something that you can tolerate for now. Try chicken broth, jello, or yogurt if your on full liquids. Oikos Triple Zero yogurt has 15 grams of protein. At least if you can tolerate yogurt you can get your protein in. Listen to your body. If you vomit something it means your stomach can't tolerate it right now.

sugar free yogurtor high protein sugar full greek yogurt?
PGee replied to Heather M's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm sticking with the greek yogurt (per my NUT's instructions) -
I, too, did not care for the Greek yogurt at all. I've heard that smell is 95% of taste ... and this smells awful.

In my last blog I mentioned that I did a trial run of the liquid diet and started it last Monday 7/11. Well, today is day 3 of my official liquid diet and its going well. I'm down 6.8lbs since last Monday which is great. The problem I'm having is the greek yogurt I managed to find that I like is a no no apparently. I like the chobani greek fruit on the bottom and it has 14g of protein but the doc says it has to be plain. Ugh.. the plain tastes like a mouthful of sourcream but worse and I hate cottage cheese. So now I'm wracking my brain for a way to get my 50-70g of protein a day and they say to limit the protein shakes to no more than 3 a day. Anyone have any suggestions?? On a good note, I made it through my bosses party on Saturday without breaking. I admit though, when they fired up the grille 3 hours into it, I was gone faster than you could say chicken. lol Only other thing at this point is my insurance carrier has still not come through with the approval and I'm getting nervous as my surgery is now 7 days a way.

I love greek yogurt...but not the plain yogurt.. plain yogurt in any form is nasty.. LOL I use the Chobani flavored yogurt... it comes in three flavors, peach (YUM) blueberry and strawberry..... I add one packet of splenda to it... try that...

I was sleeved April 27 (5 days ago) and I'm doing good! Thing is, I'm already so tired of the same things. The full liquids stage leaves me fast and leaves me feeling hungry. I've been eating yogurt, Cream of Wheat, soup, broth, sf jello, protein shakes...I need some varieties! Any new ideas?

Besides scrambled I had poached, soft boiled, hard boiled, over easy, sunny side up, deviled, essentially any way I could cook an egg I could have it. In addition, I could have mild steamed or poached fish; canned or packet tuna, salmon and chicken plain or as salad with lowfat mayo; vegetarian soy products; cooked cereal thinned with skim milk; nonfat refried beans; nonfat yogurt without added sugar; low salt V-8 juice; unsweetened apple sauce; mashed ripe banana; skim or lowfat cottage or ricotta cheese; mashed squash, white potato, sweet potato. These were all considered a good consistency so none of it had to be pureed.

Hi Everyone, I am 19 days post op and only lost 10lbs. I am so confused as I am meeting my protein and water requirements. I'm on soft foods but usually drink protein, greek yogurt and eggs (starting to hate eggs). Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated.

8Weeks Post Op & So Sick!
diddle106 replied to sweet's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was so just like you around eight weeks. I did well with low sugar oatmeal, and low fat yogurt. I absolutely could not do chicken, tried everyway possible. I still did a lot of protein shakes at this point. Oh ya eggs were my best friend, hard boiled. Key is chew chew chew!! It's hard but if not u end up so sick. Also what I found helped was to take the first bite and then sit for like 2 minutes, it almost "woke" up my tummy. Hope this helps, but really it's all trial and error. Good luck. -
Good for you to realize what's going on and be accountable to yourself! I think once the swelling goes down and food is tolerated better, it takes more effort than it did at first to stick with it. Don't be so hard on yourself, because that is counter productive. I am just under 3 months out, and I'm finding the need to be very fastidious about eating, because I know I could graze all day! (haven't done it, but know I could ) You mentioned you have a hard time with rules, and I have to tell you, I don't like them either, lol, but I follow them. If the day comes that I don't do so well, I hope I'm as brave as you to come here for support. My diet is super simple. I don't want to spend any time focusing on food, either thinking about it, shopping for it, preparing it, etc. Breakfast: Premier protein shake Lunch: lunch meat, chesse, egg, yogurt, etc Dinner: chicken, turkey, other lean meat, veg or fruit Snacks: string cheese, yogurt, hummus/pita chips or veg, fruit I use fitbit to track every bite I eat, and have been eating 800 calories per day. My weight loss slowed in February, so I'm bumping up my calories a little to see how it goes. I decided there is no sense in eating 800 calories a day if I'm only losing 1-2 pounds a week. I could do that on 1200+ before! Good luck!

I am 4 weeks post op...eating soft foods and drinking fine. By Soft I mean...yogurt, cottage cheese, ground meats, fish. I have tried recently - a few bites of chicken breast that was not dry- was fine ...a homemade cheeseburger (was also fine)- no bun of course and ate it for two meals and still tossed some. And I am to eat soft veggies but i dont have room for them most meals...I supplement with one protein shake IF i have not met my protein goals. I also eat string cheese and some other things per my plan. I haven't gone out to a restaurant yet but I could and feel comfortable if i had to right now. Just watch sugars, butters, etc....and customize things. That being said you have to check where you will be on your plan at 4.5 weeks..... I would be totally fine walking around at a park and the beach. I would likely be tired from the amusement park earlier than everyone else but I have no issues drinking water. I get around 100 ounces a day now- but would like to get a bit more. Check with your team but I think you will be fine as long as things are going well. Best of luck!

Hi everyone, I had my surgery in June and just had my second band fill on September 30th. For about a week everything was fine, business as usual. Then after a week I was disgusted by food. Nothing sounds appetizing. The thought of food makes me nauseated. When I do eat something - yogurt, protein shakes, veggies, whatever - it goes down all right so I don't think my band is too tight but I'm not really sure? Is this maybe just a psychological thing? I did have some bread stick for the first time, which freaked me out. Shortly after is when I lost my taste for all food. :/ Thanks in advance for the advice!

15 yrs into gastric bypass
Darktowerdream replied to Angelbaby1221's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m just starting out but I have read that it helps to do a pouch reset. Having hormone, metabolic and other medical issues I can relate. Try to pinpoint what medication might be affecting your weight and why. For example I needed beta blockers and the generic caused more side effects that included slowing my metabolism. Once I got on the name brand and also adjusted my calories it helped. If you can pinpoint the medication ask the doctor about switching to something with less side effects of weight gain. Also see an endocrinologist to have hormones checked and anything that could be throwing off your weight there. You might try some natural hormone supplements ie. Wild yam, black cohosh, (my head isn’t working to think of them all) 15 years a lot can change and it takes time to re-evaluate and adjust. 2-Week Pouch Reset Diet The 2-Week Pouch Reset Diet can help you if your weight loss stalls after getting gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, lap-band, or another type of weight loss surgery. There may be a time after weight loss surgery when you wonder whether your pouch has stretched, or when you get off track with your eating. The 2-Week Pouch Reset Diet mimics your original post-op diet, but it moves through the stages more quickly. You start with clear liquids, move to full liquids, then progress to pureed foods, semi-soft foods, and solid foods. The 2-Week Pouch Reset Diet can help you: Break the pattern of off-track eating. Remember what it feels like when you feel restriction from your pouch. Practice stopping eating before you feel overly full. Diet Guidelines: When you get to the solid foods diet, this is the time when you will feel that your pouch is working again. Eat slowly and mindfully, and focus on the feeling you have when you stop eating just before you are full. You can continue on the solid foods plan (repeat Days 10-14) for as long as your doctor agrees. Drink plenty of water and other calorie-free or low-calorie liquids to stay hydrated. Only use under the supervision of your doctor. Soft food ideas?
Ladybandito replied to sgnelson22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went the pre-packaged way .. Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, taco bell pintos and cheese. -
I don't wanna! lol. And physically can't because that shite hurrrtttsss like a mofo. Had issues even with yogurt this a.m. Just not gunna cry when the doc says I have another 7 weeks to go. All I'm saying is... if I knew all I had to do to lose weight was eat things I already love all the time, I would have tried this long before surgery. lol! Everyone complaining about the puree stage... what is wrong with shoveling refried beans and squishy cheese in your face? It's awesome! 😛

Yes, I am 5days post-op and had extreme diarrhea since coming home, except for today. I called my RD Friday and she told me to check the "sugar-free" liquids bec many contain sugar alcohols (sorbitol, sucralose, etc) which can promote it. My protein shakes are pea protein based and only have stevia, however it was also giving me loose stool. I also notices that my B-12 quick melts & calcium citrate soft chews have sugar alcohols. My RD suggested that i drink some Pedialyte and then advance to full liquids (hot cereal, cream of wheat/rice, grits) and non-dairy yogurt. Today (Sun), i only ate the Cream of Wheat, Cream of Rice and Grits made with high protein almond milk, non-dairy yogurt and drank water. I have had NO diarreha, but I also have NOT had a bowel movement at all today. Which, Im ok with for now, but I am about to try and drink a protein shake and hopefully my bowels will move w/out giving me diarrhea. I hope this helps a little. I have a restriction problem in the mornings also. At first, I just skipped breakfast and had a Isopure protein drink. But my metabolism wasn't kicking in without food. Now I wake up and take my HBP & asthma meds with a 16oz bottle of water that I drink slowly over 15 minutes. I take my shower and then for breakfast have some Lifeway Lowfat Kefir (pourable yogurt). It turns my stomach and metabolism on. I keep drinking water in the morning, and can eat lunch. (If I pick the right food, I can eat lunch without difficulty).

Nurse - There's not too much you can do about it right now, but it will pass. How long are you on clear liquids? I had clear liquids for a week and then on to full liquids for a 2nd week. The 2nd week helps with the cream soups, yogurt, oatmeal, etc. Before you know it you'll be eating regular food. It's definitely worth the inconvience of the liquid stages.

Yesterday I got the ok from my team to move onto all foods as tolerated but more specifically, raw fruits & veggies, nuts, grains (if I choose) but not potatoes, rice, bread..... So I have had fresh blueberries and a cutie mandarin so far and did fine with both (last night/today). It was heaven! LOL My question is....even though I dream of a huge salad with tons of veggies and a little chicken...(I know that isnt happening)....how did you start incorporating fruit/veggies (mainly raw veggies) and still hit your protein goals. I know protein first for life and I will keep that up but I really want to try having some veggies. I will prob have 5 small meals a day (plus a shake spread out through the day) and I was thinking of trying hummus and carrots tonight for my last meal. I also will have cooked vegs with my meals more if i can fit them. Fruit is pretty easy cuz i can just toss a few berries in my yogurt. TYIA
