  1. When I feel hungry and it is not time to eat yet, I wait untiI have sipped a 10 oz bottle of Water. Usually the urge goes away. Another option is sugar-free popsicles. My vice has been artificial sweeteners, which I realize now are teasing Miss Tummy for the taste of something sweet. I stopped sweeteners on Sunday and the scale (which has been stuck for six months) has started moving again. Stalls are quite common around the third week post-up. It is like your body is pausing to regroup. In the meantime, eat your Protein first - all of it, before eating other foods. This will help you feel full, and the feeling lasts longer than if you eat something starchy. Starches make you hungry for more starches.
  2. If you call your insurance company, they can tell you if your plan even covers the surgeries at all, and what it will take to MAYBE get them covered. My insurance does cover all skin removal surgeries, however I have to supply documentation of debilitating infection or skin irritation from my PCP for 3-6 months (depending on the area) with photographs, and for my stomach, it also has to have caused a cellulitis infection that required antibiotics. And they won't even consider it until I am at least 6 months out from a stable weight. My bypass is on Monday so I am planning ahead. I am a medical coder, so here are the CPT codes for the most common procedures so you can ask specifically what is covered: 15830 - panniculectomy (this is NOT a tummy tuck, insurance will not cover TT because it is cosmetic. This is only for skin removal, not muscle tightening or changing belly button location) 15832 - thigh lift (inner thigh) 15833 - leg lift (lower leg) 15834 - hip lift (outer thigh/hip) 15835 - buttock lift 15836 - arm lift (upper arm) All of the "lifts" are actually termed "removal of excess skin" in the particular area. For a full lower body lift, your surgeon may combine several of the above procedures for billing. Your insurance may only cover the panniculectomy and not the butt lift, etc. For your purposes you would want to ask about 15832. They should also be able to tell you what the average price in your area is if they do not cover it. Good luck!
  3. When you eat keto (basically high protein, good fats, no carb) your body enters ketosis. Eating carbs will stop ketosis. Your body will retain water again until you re-enter ketosis. That can take a week. One cheat can stall you a week or cause water gain. If you plan a cheat, ditch the scale. For at least 2 weeks.

    Cravings During Preop Diet

This diet is two weeks of no carbs. The last week is liquid only. I have been doing the protein shakes and salads, mixed veggies and chicken and fish. I guess it's head hunger. I think I may look at sugar free jello. I've been chewing a lot of gum. I'm just so excited and I know these two and a half weeks are going to drag on!

    What is restriction anyway?

My doc says restriction is when you are eating 3 small meals daily with no snacks and losing one to two lbs a wk. I am yet to be there I have had three fills but I think I am close

    Hello :)

Are you Seeing your doctor regularly- like at least every 6-8 weeks? Are you working out at all? Is your band filled? Do you feel restricted? If you're cheating the band by eating soft foods and high calorie foods and sweets...You may just BEAT the band, and continue gaining weight.. Its a choice your making.. You have gone through too much and lost alot of weight to let it be for not! Make a tiny change right away for the better. Something do able... Like keeping a food log, and counting your calories, or commiting to some type of excercise.. You know you will feel better! Good luck! You can do this!

    Lab Rats

Well, I have been pretty vocal about my slow weight loss. Im 3 months out and have only lost about 37 lbs. Some days the restriction is full on, other days, like today, I barely feel anything. I dont know why some days are more restricted than others. Most times, more often then not, Im crying over slow weight loss and other days.. well, Im happy about things so far. HIT OR MISS..What helped me was looking at pics of me prior to my weight loss and pics of me now. I had 80lbs to go and I am half way there in three months. Well, not to bad all things considered, but I wanted to lose at least 15 per month so in my opinion, im behind about 8 lbs. But, at least there is loss. I remember for years one month turning into the next, no loss and in fact weight gain. Im done with being negative because whats done is done.. Cant go back.. just gonna think positive and DO MY PART, MEANING Water AND EXERCISE. I realized way in the first few weeks, this really is ONLY TOOL. I watch what I eat more now than ever. Still, I would have to say, no regrets.. In no way, absolutely no way do i feel like a lab rat. Hell, I remember in 2001 wanting and researching LapBand. People didnt have long term clinical studies and it was considered experimental then. Soooo... at the least I am a LAB DIVA!
  11. Hello new me

    All Inclusive Resorts

I have been to 3 AI resorts in Mexico since my surgery in August. I have really had no issues at all. Plan to drink plenty of water, since it is hot and you can dehydrate much easier than you think. Eating is never a issue. The resorts usually serve smaller portions if there are sit down meals, since the have multiple courses. There is multiple protein options at all meals, so it is easy to find something. Once I get my plate, I portion out what I want to eat (i.e. cut the protein portion in to what I can eat). At first the waiters are concerned the first day that you don't like anything, but after that they get use to you leaving food on your plate and don't say anything. Personally, I get so caught up in the beauty of the place and being able to sit back and relax by the pool that I forget to eat as much as I should. My husband has to remind me that it is time to eat. Go enjoy! Have a great time!
  12. I am 6 weeks out and had 2 pieces of salmon, tolerated it well, but filled up fast. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

    May Sleevers

I'm having my surgery on Monday. I have to stay on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks after surgery, so I won't be having any pureed or mushy foods until the beginning of June. I sure hope I don't have a lot of pain, especially since I'm used to sleeping on my side too!

5 weeks out....exercise now the new goal

I have found tons of energy after losing around 30lbs. Actually energy to burn... I was content to sit still for the longest periods of time before surgery...now am not. My total weightloss with the sleeve should approach about 80 pounds (from roughly 258 to 178ish) and right now I am already at the midpoint of that loss (221 ( 37 lbs lost)). I am finding in my situation that as the weight comes off...it's almost like I can move better, and have a better center of balance....also my joints, my back etc all seem to funtion better.....am I 100% ...ready to run 3 miles? absolutley not... but a one mile walk now dosen't come with aches pains and loss of breath....I actually find it enjoyable. It really is baby steps to a life change... but you have to make that first step... Energy or not KC start with the smallest walk around the block... maybe 2 blocks tomorrow...stick on the headsets and go for a short stroll. I purchased a fitbit to make it more competative but today pedometers can start at as little as $10! A pedometer can get you to beat your step total every day up to the reccomended 10,000 steps a day.... good luck! oh and I am consuming around 800-1000 calories a day
  15. I take the following: multi am/pm D3 am/pm calcium citrate +D am/pm B12 sublingual - once a week I was also taking ompreazole 40mgs 1x a day, but the acid issue seems to have resolved itself. I have't taken a pill for week now. I resumed Water aerobics at week 3, but I was walking 30 minutes a day from day 1. Added weight lifting around week 5. Workout now 5 - 6 days a week.
  16. Thank you both!!! I was impacted two weeks post op and can't imagine the pain you must have gone through with the combination of both kidney stones and that!!! You must have been miserable! I never vomit and to be honest, before going to the hospital, the only relief my body got, if it could be said, was attempting to pee or when I got sick. I think it was because of my body using pressure in other areas which somewhat relieved the pain. If that makes sense. I don't have a UTI very often and don't typically have the symptoms so I feel for you having that!! Sad as its been to be in bed today, Ive caught up on rest (I work two jobs) and am sooo relieved to be out of pain and will be drinking more!

    Botox Treatment

I get Botox a couple times a year and love it. It feels like a sweat bee sting. Just kind of a like annoying poke. No pain really. You have red spots for a few hours and that's pretty much it. The total effect take a about a week. Besides its amazing work on wrinkles it will pretty much resolve any migraine issues too.

    5k 10 days after surgery?

I think this is going to be tough for anyone to answer for you. It will largely depend on how you feel. I had my surgery on Sept. 11, I also feel great now with no real pain, and I am walking 5000 steps a day, which for me is about 2 miles a day. I could probably push myself a little more too. A 5K is a little over 3 miles. Personally, I think this would be too much for me all at one time just yet (I have walked 5Ks no problem in the past). If I were able to take a rest along the way it would work, but all at once would be difficult. YMMV. Only person who can really answer this is you.

Tired of eating the same foods

Mary, didn't you have your surgery in January? What's to stop you from a few crackers with tuna salad or chicken salad in them? Key word here. ...few...lol! 3 or 4 small crackers.
  20. During my first consultation with the surgeon, he asked me a bunch of questions regarding my past efforts with trying to lose weight. He asked about my support system, my reasons for wanting the surgery, and he asked my ideal weight. We also discussed my goal weight based on my body type. The bulk of the session was the opportunity for me to ask questions. Here are some of the things i asked the doctor that may be good to bring up. 1. How soon after the surgery would I be able to start trying to get pregnant? 2. What are the risks/complications and the chances of them occurring? 3. What are the stages of the approval process and what classes/doctors appointments will i need for approval? 4. What is the average amount of weight a person my size would lose in 6 months after the surgery? 5. Why is gastric sleeve better/worse than other procedures...lap band/gastric bypass/etc? 6. What is the recommended goal weight that I should ultimately reach based on my body type? 7. What exactly happens during the procedure and how long will it last? 8. How many years experience does the surgeon have and how many patients has he lost during the operation and why? (this is a pretty hard question to ask, but i did so that i would at least know. My doctor has lost 2 patients but they were almost 500 pounds, high risk, and had multiple commorbidies and were going to die if they did not have the surgery). Since I am a low risk patient, he assured me that he had done thousands of surgeries and that i would be fine. Good luck to you!!

  22. Today I am 3 months post op. Time sure does fly!! Sometimes I feel like I am losing so slow, but then I look back over only 3 months, its going by so fast and the pounds are just melting off. I cannot wait to get to my half way point! I will have to think of something very special to do for myself when I get there. I lost another 4 pounds this week... I seem to average that amount a week still. Sometimes I get upset that its not more, but then I tell myself at least its not 0. "Fingers crossed" I have never had a stall yet. Hopefully I am one of the few lucky ones that never does! I lost 2 pounds one week, that was my lowest week, but I was very constipated. If anyone is curious, here is my weight loss in pounds per week since surgery. Starting weight: 369 Surgery weight: 356 Today's weight: 282 Week 1: 17 Week 2: 6 Week 3: 7 Week 4: 4 Week 5: 7 Week 6: 6 Week 7: 2 Week 8: 5 Week 9: 4 Week 10: 5 Week 11: 3 Week 12: 4 Week 13: 4 Just thought it was kind of cool looking at it that way. I have been doing pretty well. Feeling great. I have been walking some, but need to workout more. My hair started falling out last week and its getting so thin. But thats okay! Here is a slideshow of my weight loss so far. http://smilebox.com/...a&blogview=true

    Question about 1st fill 2morrow

I went last week to my first fill and ask my nurse about eating right before the fill. She said that you want something on your stomach before a fill as long as you don't overindulge. Happy fill!!
  24. My post op diet liquid diet is only one to two weeks. I don't technically have that much longer if on day 7 I want to try to add some mushy. I just need to get through three more days and I am having a very hard time. I got the family a rotissarie chicken and ended up taking a tiny sliver, I mean tiny, chewed it to nothing and swallowed it down with water. Just for the taste of something other then chocolate, strawberry or berry. I never thought I would ever be sick of those flavors. LOL Once this is done I am sure I will not eat chocolate for a few months. Which is good because you are not supposed to. LOL

    4 days post-op..

Don't worry too much about Protein, especially in the first week or two. You're not going to become seriously ill even if you're protein deficient for days on end. The only thing to be really careful about, especially in the first week, is Water. THAT can get you into trouble rapidly. If you were just sleeved on 8/9, focus on sipping water and walking as much as you can. The rest will take care of itself, trust me.
