1. BUMMER! Was to have my Gastric Bypass Surgery on Tuesday, Oct. 6th, but found out I have mild diverticulitis today. Everything is CANCELLED!!! I have to be an antibiotics for 7 days and have a colposcopy BEFORE I can reschedule my bypass. QUESTIONS...do I stay on the Protein drinks that I have now been on for 2 weeks or do I stop and restart for ANOTHER 2 weeks? NEED WORDS OF WISDOM please!!!
2. I was hungry the day after the surgery. I'm a week post op and still on liquids. I just can't wait for solids to come. I am so tired of liquids. LOL!
3. Try Chi ionic 44 three step it cost me 23.00 for the set a coworker with a beautician license purchase it for me at a Beaty supply store and trust me I swear by it the it really does work.

Heartburn

I had my sleeve surgery 11-16-15 and have had severe heartburn starting 3 weeks post op. I also had heartburn pre-op, but meds seemed to help. Part of the problem is I have no desire to eat which allows for acids to build up. Dr. put me on Zantac which does help. The other issue is when I do eat, I am struggling to chew, chew, chew.... Take your time and follow dr. orders. Don't be afraid to ask dr. for help if heartburn does occur. Good luck- You can do this!
5. This is the post I made on last Saturday when I was one month post op. It took awhile to put my feeling to words but it ended up saying what I was feeling so I am going to copy it here. It answers the question for me and what I have received so far from the procedure. The title of the post was One month post op and "The Thing" I am one month post op today. Yay me! Life is so good! Surgery and recovery have been ideal. Did 3 weeks of liquids and 10 days so far of soft foods and learning how to treat my new tiny tummy. I have been good to it thus far by following my post op diet to the T. My new tiny tummy has in return, treated me exceptionally well. I believe we are going to get along just fine. My stats after one month are 13 lost on pre-op and 17 lost since surgery. Again, yay me! 'Now for "the thing" My stats are NOT the most important thing!! WTF?? I didn't see that one coming! At all! I have not lost a single pound in over 10 days. I know by the million and ten OMG! I'm 3 weeks out and hit a major stall what is happening to me my surgery didn't work threads that the chances of my scale getting in on that action was was pretty high and sure enough, my scale is determined to be the life of that party. This too shall pass. What I didn't see coming was "the thing". During this adjustment of not losing weight, my way of thinking has taken on a life of it's own. My brain did not freak out, didn't run for the nearest Taco Bell or Margarita with Mexican food. Every time I stepped on the scale, my brain would say your body is going through a huge adjustment and it will catch up. Be patient. I would step off the scale shrug and think yep, still adjusting. No big deal. Maybe even a good thing? I have made huge changes and I am still adjusting to them, so to be fair, my body needs time to adjust as well. I am listening to my body, giving it what it needs and it won't fail me. I know this now. I have never known this before. When did this happen? I don't know but it is coursing through me and I plan to never let it get away. One month out and I feel different. I physically feel better, I know I look better, but most importantly, my outlook and new knowledge feel so powerful and I know that I am in control. It may take my body longer to get to the healthy weight that it needs to be but "the thing" is, it will get there. I know this to be true now. Finally.
6. This last week I just keep getting headaches. I was told at my 6month apt I did not need my Iron pills but I'm wounding with me not taking them anymore might be why I'm getting them? And I'm my sleepy and dizzy lately. What do u all think? I'm going to call him tomorrow but I thought I'd ask tonight to see what everone says. 7. I agree - don't freak out (I know that's easier said than done). You've hit the dreaded 3-week stall! Just keep to your plan, whatever it is. I was sleeved on Feb. 9 and have 3 stalls since then (I had a 3 week stall beginning at the end of the 2nd week post-op). Then I dropped 5 pounds overnight and the weight kept coming off. Then I had another stall before heading to Germany (one month post-op). I didn't weigh myself during that 10 day trip, but when I came back home I was down 12 pounds. Now I've been stalled for almost 2 weeks, but I know the weight will drop again. My stats are similar to @SalZ - I've lost almost 30 pounds in 2 months post-op, and 50 pounds since I started the pre-op diet. It's working, and it'll work for you.

Dumping

Cream of wheat. I was 3-4 weeks post-op,it was approved, I had about 1/2 a cup, but I hadn't eaten anything else all morning, had no Protein in my system at all and it was just to large of a carb lad for my system. After experimenting, I now know I can eat ream of wheat but I have to have t least 1/2 of a Protein shake first....the protein balances out the carbs and prevents the crash. HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 255, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 219

2 1/2 weeks post op. help!

First, please fill in your profile so we can know you and help you better? As the other comments pointed out, this is normal and should not be of any concern. I lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks and then nothing the next 3.5 months. Plateaus can last weeks or even months. Although, you are not far out enough to even experience a plateau. BTW-If you don't know this already, throwing up is a huge no-no. Your stomach will wretch and convulse to eject whatever is in it and this can tear apart the sutures holding your band to your stomach. Remember, you have a very small upper pouch and still a large lower stomach. So when you vomit, both will be gyrating to force whatever is in there out. tmf
10. It's gonna be okay. I lost 170 lbs and it took 2 years. I went thru many months of non losing. Just keep getting back on track. Make sure you get your Protein. I used a lot of the low carb Protein shakes. Just keep going. I didn't do a lot of exercising but I did walk regularly 3 or 4 times a week. Good luck! You are getting it done! 11. I love the GNC lean protein shakes....they have 26 grams of protein and they taste unreal! I am 4 weeks post op and I have 2 per day.

Not having a bad day, just an plain old same day. I have tried to keep busy. I have made up serveral packets for my scrapbooking weekend coming up. I need to make a plan for that weekend. Food of course, so that I don't get taken by surprise with the food. We have a suite I think, but don't know if it has refrig or anything like that. If I eat out I will need to figure out when to go and what to eat before I get there. I know bread is out, so won't be going to any hamburger joints. Need to find some place with good protien sources. Need to find if the hotel has a refrig first, guess I should call the place. If the have a refrig I will just take some stuff to make a salad with chicken or roast beef, or may ham. I don't like breakfast so could take my smoothie maker and have protien shake for breakfast. I really hadn't given this any thought till now. This is the first time that I will be away for the weekend. Really looking forward to that. I go next week for another fill I hope this is the one that really makes a difference. I have 2.5 cc in a 4 cc band. They are so expensive I really want to have the restriction I need. I will try to eat more protien and try to stay away from cheese. I did have a couple of pieces of chocolate last night. No other junk food yesterday. I did peddle yesterday for 11 minutes, I think I will try for 15 tonight. Stay strong, live long.
13. 1 week since surgery. I SLEPT ON MY SIDE LASTNIGHT FOR 8 HOURS STRAIGHT! Can you imagine?!?!?!? Yes, it was that good! The gas pains in my left shoulder are almost unmanagable but who cares? I SLEPT ON MY SIDE LASTNIGHT!!!!! The liquid diet is getting easier to manage too. The protien minimum my dietician wants me hitting daily is 67g. I had not complied until yesterday and it was my first day back to work. Here's the food journal: 0700 - 1/2 c oatmeal protien smoothie w. soy milk and skim milk powder. 0800 - 1.2 c water 0900 - 1.2 c peppermint tea 1000 - 1400 EVERY HOUR - 1/2 c split pea soup w. soy milk and 2 Tbsp skim milk powder (in my coffee travel mug 1 c at a time) 1500 - 1/2 c water 1600 - 1//2 c veggie chili w. tomatoe juice 1645 - 1/2 c veggie chili w. tomatoe juice 1800 - 1/2 c greek yogurt w. 3 TBSP blueberry puree 1900 - 1/2 c peppermint tea 2000 - 1/2 c water 2100 - 1/2 c water 2200 - 1/2 c greek yogurt w. pear puree. HELLS YES! Not so bad huh? I didnt slosh at all. My eyeballs werent floating. Maybe because you wouldnt consider these things to be liquids.... Well, I dont really care what YOU (not really you) think! It worked for me! The first 6 days of post-op were spent forcing myself to eat these liquids that were full of protien but sickeningly sweet or actually kind of tasty without even 0.2 g of the magical stuff. I did discover GREEK YOGURT - with 14.7 g of protien per 1/2 delightfully sour cup and a little bit of fruit puree on top - ITS BETTER THAN ICECREAM!! Also, had an appointment with Dr. Love lastnight. Lol. It had been way too long! Perhaps the appointment is the only reason for my fantastic attitude? I dont care... whatever it is, Im holding on tight and ready to keep movin on! KEEP ON TRUCKIN!
14. My surgeon had me start the 2 protein meal replacements shakes and one meal a day. I can have small snack in between IF I feel hungry. Okay so first week was great I was on track doing fab. Now sometimes I feel like I'm starving. I've got 2 more months before surgery and feel like I'm failing more and more each day. I knew going into this it wasn't going to be easy. Hoping after the surgery I don't have that hunger. Side note.... Only need to lose 10 lbs. I have! I drink drink drink water thinking that would help with hunger and does a little but I'm struggling. Can anyone relate to this? Any suggestions for me?

Beach Time? Or Not?

My instructions was no swimming (immersion in water) until my incisions had completely healed over -- no scabs or holes. That happened by my fourth week. Now if only the weather would cooperate I am cleared to swim.
16. Hi Everyone! I am Joelle. I had surgery 9/13/12! I am down 134 pounds!! I would like to maintain my weight now but have no idea how!! Help me!! I am on Myfitnesspal.com and eat between 1k-1300 cals a day with over 100 grams of Protein. I walk 4-5 days a week and burn 6-800 cals when I do so. How do I maintain my weight? How many cals/carbs work for you? Thanks!!

heartburn

I see him in two days. I hope it does not cause complications. I'd hate to have issues in my first week. Maybe it's not heartburn. I've never had it before.

STALL!

Stalls are no fun, but with hitting the gym you are probably building muscle and your body stalls to adapt. I always noticed I lost inches, not pounds during a stall. Just stick with it and the stall will pass. Plus the week after a stall I would lose about double what my average was.
19. This morning I weighed in at 195.6lbs. Up .2lbs. After the 3 meals out last week, 1 night at the bar (including dinner of nachos) with the Besties at the Donnie Dumphy concert, out again Saturday night for an old friends Bday (more drinks) and 3 missed workouts, I assumed that I would have gained more. NOPE! Thank the friggen stars! With all of the habits that I have changed, BOOZE is not going anywhere soon! I do miss beer and cider and gin and tonic but Ive replaced those relationships with gin and diet cran and red wine. I am a red wine WHORE! I love to drink, I love to socialize and I LOVE to have fun! I know, I know, some people would say that you don't need to drink to have fun..... I DO! I am 28 (for another month) and have no children. I want to live it up while I can! I know people talk about the "last supper" allot. This is how I feel about booze. I am going to drink all that I can before I get into MOM mode. The day after my 30th Birthday we will start trying for munchkins. Until then, I will continue to work my ass off, eat well and hope that this continues to balance off my love of liquor and the weight loss! A girl can dream right? Still happy that all I gained was .2lbs!!!! We shall see how this week goes. EASTER is here and that means the 3rd annual BESTIES trip to the cabin! I can not wait! After the stressful last few weeks at work, I need this! I need an afternoon in the sunshine with my gals, walking around on the trails, blaring the tunes while having a few drinks and pretending like I never have to return to the city and to working for a living! AND TO FOLLOW THE CROWD: the workout sweaty mess glow from yesterday. The elliptical kicked my ass after 2 days off and an upped by 10min program. I had sweat in places that I never knew could sweat! Cheers!
20. This morning I weighed in at 193lbs. Not a budge from last week. I am a little dissappointed I have to admit BUT I did not gain. I'll take it.... I guess. I'm hoping that I really did lose a few pounds but the stress is weighing me down. Stress gone = POOF - 3 lbs?!?!? Let's keep our fingers crossed. I've been fighting the mental fight these days. My meal choices have been decent in most cases BUT I just seem to be hungry late at night allot lately. I am using my herbal tea and novelty water bottle to combat the late night troll that wants me to snack on the Mister's chips and snacks. I have been successful so far but I feel like I may cave at any moment! I keep telling myself that it isn't worth it. That my sunnyboy breakfast will be waiting for me in the morning. That I am not REALLY hungry. Thing is, I think that I am! I purchased a soy based chocolate protien powder yesterday. I am hoping that, at 140 cal and 19g of protien per serving, that one of these bad boys might help me feel fuller through the evening. I have been struggling with my protien, especially on the road and the extra help couldn't hurt! Yesterday was my first crack at it but I worked until 10pm and couldn't tell you if hunger was one of the things swirling around in my brain! I will try again today and see how it goes. It seems that anytime that I think that I may be in control and getting the hang of this, the signs tell me that I need to work harder! More exercise, less waivering and this too shall pass... right?! This week the sun is here and the temps will stay in the 20's !!! We are off to my hometown on Saturday to celebrate my Grandparent's 65th anniversary! Grandpa is 90 and Grams is only a year behind! Sunshine, Family and Country Roads!!! Next week, Sparms Bestie (we work together too) are on our way to Jasper for a meeting! HELLS YES! ROADTRIP to PARADISE! Take Care All,

BCBS of Alabama

@ Connie Y . Yes they do give you the run around ,I didnt think that 3 yrs ago when I was sick would affect how my weight is now ,now im waiting again becasue the Dr.office called me Monday and was a little confused when she got her c.c. and BCBS is saying now it was denied becasue she never sent over the physical paper from the surgeon and that she has to resubmit it .So know its a wait and see game for a couple of weeks
24. I was banded a week ago and today have some mild heartburn should I be concerned ? Following all of the doctors pre op and I contacted the clinic but they haven't got back to me just curious
25. I need to get my teeth cleaned & I am 3 weeks post-op. I read somewhere about if we get our teeth cleaned or any work on our teeth we should have antibiotics first? Is that true & if so why? If I do need antibiotics then who do I go to for them... my PCP or the dentist?
