"Behind" program guidelines

TBH, I didn’t once reach my nutritionist’s food goals for me until probably 2-3 months AFTER i reached goal. I just did what I could. You’ll find out in the coming weeks/months what works for you. Probably no need to force something that isn’t doable at your stage. But maybe that’s just me. What have your labs been like? Energy levels? -
Hi! I was cleared to do anything/everything by 1 month post op. With that said, I didn’t do anything besides walking until about 3 months post op, when I went nuts trying anything/everything I could. I was an everyday (sometimes 2-3 times a day exerciser for about a year and a half. Am now at 3 years post and i am down to a 2-3 time a week runner min 5k. I also do a bunch or cardio-based fun stuff - next week im going pole dancing! Lol. I never developed into a strength training lover, but I do it a couple times a week just cuz i know it works (but i hate doing it TBH). I do mean to try cross-fitting…maybe it will stick? We’ll see. Your doc will clear you based on your healing. Who knows, maybe you may be cleared earlier than u think. Listen to ur doc (I didn’t listen to mine after plastics and paid the price) Good Luck! ❤️

I had surgery a week before you and I'm still struggling to pass 200 calories a day. I'm not hungry. I have to force myself to eat. I'm happy with the weight I'm losing, I'm taking a multivitamin, iron, and calcium every day, but I feel sooooo weak all the time. -
I had three sushi rolls and an avocado and crab salad for dinner, with a Hendricks Gin and Tonic for dessert.

Thanksgiving Strategy on Soft Foods
Cookie.Monster replied to Meganator's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Yassss for this thread. I will be on soft foods by thanksgiving and I am currently salivating over what I can eat (still on liquids one week post op) I am planning moist turkey, maybe string beans? A dab of mashed potatoes/baked potatoes? The fact that I’ll be able to chew something has me giddy with excitement. -

It is so hard to give advice when every surgeon has a different plan! 1200 calories a day so soon out from surgery seems high. I think they want you getting your protein to mitigate side effects (hair falling out, no energy, not looking "good"). My surgeon's office had me on pureeds til I was 9 weeks out, and emphasized just doing shakes if meals were too much. Last week, I had my 2 month appointment and was told I should be getting 80g of protein through protein shakes alone, (and the protein HAS to be Bariatric Advantage or Unjury - yuck, no Isopure which I can actually tolerate), and 120g of total protein daily. Well, I frickin hate the protein shakes, and I was doing really good getting in 80g from real food, (and the office was quite pleased with the weight I've lost so far). My nutritionist said 500 to 700 calories a day was good, not to focus on macros, just to focus on getting my protein. Because those shakes are so high in calories and carbs, if I drink protein shakes, my calories are closer to 900 per day and my carbs are close to 100g (which seems very high). So I'm just going back to what I was doing. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -

I'm so jelly that you're not hungry. I've been hungry since the first week. But.... all plans are different. Yes, ideally you should follow your surgery center's plan, but don't freak out if you can't eat as much. Some plans are much more restrictive and say only three meals a day with no snacks, and other want you only eating 800 calories or whatever... I had my surgery a week before you and I'm not eating 1200 calories a day. I'm at 700-900. Of course, my surgery center didn't give me a number of calories to eat, so I'm just eating until I'm full 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day. I usually but not always have a protein drink in there because otherwise it's hard to get my protein goal (I was told 80g to keep from being so hungry). Ugh... it's so hard to know what the right answer is. Please post what your dietician says! -
New Here in Pre-op process - Anxiety & PCOS
Summermoose replied to Denali717's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have generalised anxiety disorder, but it’s no longer severe (not bc of surgery). I got to a place where I only saw my psychologist every couple of months for ‘routine maintenance’, but started seeing her more regularly before my surgery and now see her every three weeks po just to sort through all these feelings. I would really recommend working with a professional for support, ideally if possible someone who you already know and trust. Having someone who you can tell your deepest and darkest thoughts and fears to has lightened my load immensely po. The first week I was too tired to be anxious, but the two weeks after were a little rough. I have always self soothed with food and even though I prepared myself as much as possible beforehand, the reality of that comfort being taken away was difficult. I think I felt more gloomy and sorry for myself than anxious though.. although I do now struggle with some anxiety related to the weight loss (since +- 5 weeks po), but I really don’t think that’s because of any hormones (more me not believing in myself, which leads to a lot of my anxiety in the first place). I’m now 9 weeks po so I couldn’t tell you how it changes when weight loss slows down. Good luck with everything! 😄🌸 -
Alright, y'all, I'm 6 weeks post-op and feel great! I've had a very smooth recovery, and am truly grateful for that. Two weeks ago, I got an update from my dietician about week 4 & 5 phases, including suggested meal schedules and calorie intake. I was a little lower than her goals, but figured I was close enough that over the course of the 2 weeks I would get there. Today I got the week 6 & 7 guidelines and I'm realizing I'm further "behind" than I thought I was. Her guidelines include 3-4 meals a day, 3-4oz each, with an overall 1,200 a day caloric intake (70g protein goal). I'm still sitting at 800-900 calories with 2 meals a day and a protein shake or two, which does allow me to hit my protein goal every day. However, if I try and up my meals to 3 a day, I feel super full and uncomfortable most of the day, and then struggle to get all my fluids in because I'm so full. Then, if I skip the shake to compensate, I don't come close to my protein goal. On top of that, I'm struggling with the mental piece of wanting to "ride the wave" of not being hungry as long as I can. Its so tempting to say, well I'm not hungry so I might as well make the best of it and not eat while I can get away with it! Weight loss will never be easier than it is right now... blah blah blah. I realize that's unhealthy, borderline disordered thinking and I recognize it and I'm working on it. Just adding it in there for context, that this is super freaking hard! I have an email out to my dietician, but would also love some personal experience on how to up intake when you're not hungry and additional/bigger meals is still difficult. Is it even that big of a deal to keep pace with my program, or will it all sort of work out in the end? I do NOT want to slip back into extreme restriction type behaviors, I want to do this properly and in a way that creates a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. Any advice to that end is welcome!

Thanksgiving Strategy on Soft Foods
ShoppGirl replied to Meganator's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You can always tell others that you have to eat another thanksgiving dinner so you are trying not to overdo it. I used to have to go three places with my ex and I actually had to eat smaller portions at each place. People seemed to understand that. -
So all my life I have had period issues. When I was a teen and into my early 20's I was on birth control pills to give me more normal and regular periods. Was also told that it would help my PCOS, Endometriosis and Adenomyosis . My GYN really wanted me to get a hysterectomy saying that was really the only thing that would cure that stuff but I wasn't ready. I was also young and not sure if I wanted another kid or not. So I didn't get it and stuck to the pills. And the BC pills worked for a while. Until about 10 years ago when I was diagnosed with high BP. Then the doc took me off of them. I was back to square one with the monster migraines, heavy, clotty periods, the periods coming whenever they felt and staying as long as they wanted sometimes lasting like 14 days at a time, etc. Right around the time I was diagnosed with high BP and taken off, I was also diagnosed with Insulin Resistance. So my endocrinologist put me on Metformin and said that would help the IR and PCOS/Endometriosis/Adenomyosis issues and help me becomes regular again without BC pills. And it did!! I would get my period like clockwork within a few days time (usually every 28-33 days). And it usually only lasted like 4 days. So I get the sleeve surgery and was told that my periods could be irregular to start. It was kinda heavy the first few times after surgery and lasted a lil longer than normal but nothing nuts. One of my main goals for getting surgery was to get off of my medication or at least have it cut down. Well on September 13th I had my Metformin cut in half by my regular doc! Needles to say I was very happy! However I now think it's the reason my period is 47 days into my cycle today, 16 days late!! Like I said, I had gone to the doc Sept 13th and got my last period on Sept 17th. I've yet to have one since!! I swear weeks ago I felt like I was gonna get it. I had the aches, the tenderness down there and in my breasts, etc. so I'm not sure why it hasn't come. Has anyone experienced this? I do believe it's due to the Metformin being cut in half. Otherwise it would be very coincidental it was anything else like me going through the change/menopause suddenly when I've had no other signs or symptoms thus far. Has anyone gone through something similar? And no, no chance of being pregnant. Hubby was fixed years ago. Don't really wanna have to go on the pill again just to be regular. And especially not now since my BP meds have also been cut down and I'm doing great BP-wise.

When I started losing weight on my own, my shoe size went down (from a 16W to a 14W). It was actually great, because my feet didn't hurt anymore. And so I dutifully bought all new shoes. When I consulted with my surgeon, I asked if it was likely that my shoe size would change again, and he said no, I had arches now and it's not like arches just randomly re-establish themselves to where they were. Don't worry about it, he said. Last week I was exercising and noticed I had a blister on each foot. I went to a shoe store and measured my feet—size 12, and no longer wide. I love the way I feel but my poor wallet! I had to buy new work boots, too, (11.5—those always run big) and those are NOT cheap. I still have 70 lbs. to lose... am I gonna end up doing this all again in six months or a year? I guess we'll find out.

New Here in Pre-op process - Anxiety & PCOS
pintsizedmallrat replied to Denali717's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have PCOS and C-PTSD which results in a lot of anxiety--I didn't really have issues with feeling anxious following my surgery but I did go through a couple weeks right after the surgery where EVERYTHING (and I mean EVERYTHING) was making me cry (even things that made me happy!). The tea tastes really good? Cry. My fiance has been gone for five minutes longer than he said? Cry. I see a cute dog on YouTube? Cry. It's resolved itself pretty quickly, but your system is kind of going to be all over the place and it's probably important to make sure the people surrounding you the first couple weeks know that's normal, and you're not really losing it. -
Constipated HELP!!
Soon2bFit21 replied to TeeNeg12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe you’re mentioning my post so I’m responding: I don’t take exlax daily, it’s every week to week and a half. I do take magnesium daily. Miralax does not work even with daily use. My surgeon has been absolutely useless with any help or answers post surgery and getting a call back isn’t going to happen . As per my PCP I “fired” my surgery center due to the issues I’ve had from the very start with them and incredibly rude, condescending, and unhelpful replies if I even get one at all. My PCP doesn’t have any answers outside of things we’ve already covered. I’ve even tried mega dosing on vitamin C and that doesn’t work as well. -
Anyone with a traveling job?
lizonaplane replied to lizonaplane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks, I'll look out for restaurants that have those options (I did sashimi two weeks ago in LA, it was great. I usually get low quality fish that needs a lot of other stuff, but this restaurant was very fancy and the fish was like buttery soft and delicious). -
Almost 3 weeks out.. am I doing something wrong?
Splenda replied to Prisci1608's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Catwoman is right. You are in the dreaded 3 week stall. It is incredibly frustrating because you went through all of the work for surgery and then ... nothing. I lost 24 pounds in the first 2 weeks. I lost 6 pounds over the next 18 days. Lost 36 pounds in the last 44 days. For the next 2 weeks, either don't step on the scale or step on it expecting no weight loss. Go only by what you feel (energy levels, etc.) and if your clothes start to fit better. -

Anyone with a traveling job?
lizonaplane replied to lizonaplane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I need protein. I'm only 7 weeks out. I used to love just getting veggies and salads. I had my first salad (with chicken and egg) yesterday, and the lettuce did not sit well. -
Anyone with a traveling job?
lizonaplane replied to lizonaplane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks. I was eating in restaurants and leaving most of the food (I'm not ashamed to throw out food), but restaurant food isn't healthy, so that's what I'm worried about. I carry a water bottle with me and usually don't have trouble getting in more than 80 oz of water a day. I often go to grocery stores, but I don't like to eat things cold that are meant to be hot (like the salmon with green beans that you mentioned, which sounds great!). I bought a salad at Publix yesterday, but the lettuce didn't sit well (I'm only 7 weeks out). Thank you for chiming in. I've followed your success and I'm glad it's possible to do! -

Miralax, on a regular schedule in the beginning helped a lot. I think I did every other day for a while, then went to every third day, now it is as needed (maybe 2x a week). -
Hey everyone I had the switch in September of 2020. I was 419 pounds and got to the lowest point on October 14 where I was 172 pounds. However in the last 3 weeks I am back to 179. I’m getting all in my head and trying to figure out if I’m doing something wrong or is there going to be weight gain regardless. I just figured I had more time. Any feedback would be super amazing.

Any October 2021 Surgeries?
Shrinkingvee replied to devotion's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You are spot on with what you say, I’m 3 weeks post op and it’s been the toughest journey I’ve ever walked and I’ve been up and down throughout these 3 weeks. it’s not easy. I know it will get easier but I’ve been down every other day as apparently with fat loss your estrogen levels rise and that causes feeling down so that sucks. Im still finding it hard to get my fluid intake in and in turn now today have a migraine probably due to dehydration. im eating soft food and cracker crisp bread with a little cheese or chicken with avocado or yeast extract. Ive gone off eggs, that’s a shame. my sense of smell and taste seems so different, I don’t know if anyone else’s has changed? I’ve lost a total of 17lbs since my op and lost 16 with pre op diet. I feel like it’s slow this week like a quarter of a pound but I’ve been told there is a 3 week stall. I’m really fed up with the down days. Ive not gone back to work yet. Took another week off. Im really struggling today. I’m sorry to be so negative but when I read your insert and though you are so right, people need to know complications can arise as issues and to know you will need support. -
November Surgery Buddies!!!
You Are My Sunshine replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Today was weirdly hard because I just wasn't hungry. Had to kind of force myself to drink and eat some stuff. Probably could use another shake, but I'm tired and want to go to bed. Jello has been good. One more week... then another couple weeks, lol.
