  1. Okay guys. So I was sleeved 6/30/14. I did awesome my first two weeks and lost 23.4 pounds. Now I'm in soft foods and I, haven't lost at all. Actually I gained a pound since my last Dr weight in. Am I doing something wrong? Did anyone else have this problem?

    Cholesterol meds

After surgery, the Doc kept me on the regular dose for a while, watching my labs which were really good. Then she made me take half the pill for 3 months, then retested my labs... They were almost the same after lowering the dose by half. If the problem was genetic rather than weight related, the numbers would have shot up again to some degree. Best of luck with your labs! It feels great to dump the drugs!

1 month post op and kind of disappointed

You are not alone. I am 4 weeks out and have lost 19lbs since surgery. The doctors told me I will lose about 10-14lbs the first week but that didn't happen. I get frustrated occasionally but I am trying to remain focused and trust the process. I really did have this illusion that the weight would start falling off. Not so much!

    So Discouraged ....

there are a lot of great doctors out there that will take the time with you to go over everything that you need to know. I would keep looking....you need to feel comfortable with him. I lucked out and the first doc that I chose was wonderful. you will need to lose some weight with any of the docs that you chose, but that is also the best thing for you to do for the surgery to be safe. I was able to lose 47 pounds before my surgery on slim fast. I just followed the plan that they tell you...2 shakes, a meal under 500 calories, and 3 snacks under 100 calories a day. i did it in 4 months. you can do this! change your life! god bless you and good luck!
  5. Hey Marmite I got banded one day before you. But as to faster isn't always better I really need carbgl to expound on that. The pros and the cons of losing weight too fast because it sounds great to me and I would love to know what you did so I can do the same thing!!!

    Help!!!!! 911

Firstly- I cant eat more than a bit of food (not related to the question beloew because the problem i am having has been occuring before I got my lastest fill), and I am not really loosing weight with eating so little - I just made an aapointment to get my band loosened - anyone else? :help: Secondly and more importantly - I have horrible shoulder pain (left) that comes and goes with no warnings - its not like i am hungry or too full and its not gas like the pain I had after surgery. The scariest thinig is that the only trigger I noticed was when my back is against something it starts to hurt and when I push down on my stomach the pain releaves slightly ------ What do you guys think is going on? My Doc seems to have turned into an idiot and just tells me its things I know its NOT so I was hopeing my fellow bandsters had some insight!!!
  7. Had my Dr. appointment yesterday. I lost a pound since the last visit (5 weeks). It was very busy as they had to fit all the afternoon patients in in the morning because the PA wasn't going to be able to do the pm appointment. Well I talked to the PA in training, and she seemed nice enough but still asked questions that were really odd to me--like if my hypertension was better---umm yup I am fat, but no I don't have hypertension and never had, if anything my BP runs on the low side. Next she asked where I thought I was ...yelllow, green or red. I said yellow as I am always hungry and am eating off of a salad plate rather than a saucer. Shared that I get hungry between meals and that I am getting all my protien in. I asked about hair loss since it is coming out in thick gobs when I wash my hair, She told me that I wasn't really losing that much hair, it was just my imagination...seriously, you can see my scalp:sad:. When she asked about exercise I shared that I walked 2 days per week in the summer plus I go to the gym 3 times per week and do 40 minutes of cardio and about a half hour of free weights. I added that since the weather had turned rather cruddy for walking I had added an extra day of cardio. She told me that the exercise I am doing will only help me to maintain my weight and not to lose any. WTH, I didn't do much of anything before being banded. Next she told me to cut out snacking before bed...again WTH, I never eat after dinner even if I am hungry. I explained all of this and felt like she thought I was lying about what I eat and how much I exercise since there was only a 1 pound loss:mad2:. Next comes in the reg PA. She said add biotin to help with the hair loss and double check to be certain I am getting my 80 grams of protien. Said to keep exercising and add extra gym time if the walking outdoors wont work due to weather. She says lets go with a bigger fill this time, I think you need it. This sounds all good. She however decides to let PA in training do the fill...she missed the port, ok so try again, misses the port but thinks she can root around with the needle to get it in. Now I am saying ouch and have tears streaming down my face:crying:. Reg PA takes a look... umm she is off by an inch and a half, remove needle and reg PA does the fill. It is all good, but I am still hurting 24 hours later. Reg PA tells PA in training that sometimes belly fat and scar tissue can be tricky and make you think it is the port---ok may be true, but my port sticks out and you can feel it pretty easily. Plus hey I 'm right here in the room and do not need to feel like her error is my fault for being fat, heck I am here becasue I am fat! So, now I am being extra careful to do the sequence of food progression so I don't get any stuck episodes to casue extra swelling. I bought the biotin and started taking those, but I still feel like she really thought I was laying around eating twinkies. BTW inches are still melting off rapidly and I had to go out and get all mnew pants for work. Oh well at least my students are seeing a difference..."Wow, Mrs. M, you lost a TON of weight" and I'm thinking thanks, could you call my PA in training!:tt2:
  8. I also didn't lose on the post op liquids. The shock of the surgery causes your body to go into survival mode, conserving every calorie it gets, and it's common not to lose. It's also common to gain a bit when you start eating again while your body gets used to having regular meals again, but I promise it will settle down and you will start losing. I know it's hard to be patient, but give yourself time to heal, you'll be dropping sizes in no time!

    3 Weeks Out

Wow, that's a lot of weight to lose in so small a time. I was 321 on my surgery day and am 283 right now. So since my surgery 8 weeks ago I've lost 38 pounds. Compared to that your weight is just flying of lol. It'll probably slow down soon though so don't worry so much!

    3 Weeks Out

RNY 02/26/2020 HW: 440+ SW:400 Surgery Day: 373 Discharge Day: 379(Due To IV’s Im Pretty Sure) CW: 328 GW: 145 Height: 5’4 51lbs. Down in 3Weeks And 3 Days Is This Normal??? Still Not Hungry Or Thirsty No Desire To Eat The Thought Of Eating Makes Me Sick When I Force Myself To Eat, Drink A Protein Drink, Or Water It Takes A Hour Sometimes Longer. I’ve Been Dehydrated 4times Now To The Point Where I Felt Very Sick and Like I Was Gonna Faint. The Steam From The Shower Makes Me Dizzy And Lightheaded To The Point Where If I Dont Sit On The Tub For About 5Minutes I Feel Like I’ll Faint. I Tried 1 Medium Egg This Morning Scrambled Lightly To Where It Was Really Wet And Soft. It Didn’t Go Down Well And After A Few Bites It Came Right Back Up Now As I Write This Im Eating Yogurt That Ive Had For At Least 40 Minutes Now And I’ve Only Ate 3 Bites. This Is Harder Than I Thought, I’m Not Giving Up But When Will This Get Easier. I Thought I Was Prepared For This. I’ve Done So Much Research and Gathered As Much Info Over The Last Probably 6 Years Before I Made The Decision Last Year To Go Through With Surgery And Like I Said I Thought I Was Well Prepared. Has Anyone Else Went Through This In The Beginning? Im Happy With My Decision Its Just A Little Tough Right Now. Im Also Happy With The Weight Loss And 1 Non Scale Victory For Me Is How Mentally Strong I’ve Became. ⁉️CAN I SEE BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES OF PEOPLE WHO STARTED OVER 350lbs⁉️

    Can You Feel The Port?

As I've lost weight the port is easier for me to feel if I go looking for it. I still have about 60 pounds to loose (lost 65 so far). I wear a large/xl top. The port does not stick out. I can't feel it from the inside as a matter of course. The only time I notice it's there is if I do intense exercise and the muscles are sensitive. I do a lot of exercise but I don't always get that feeling. Probably has something to do with being somewhat dehydrated.
  12. I was banded back in 2005 and have since had "slippage". I am getting the band replaced along with plication next month. I told everybody about my Lap-band and I sure wish that I had a "do over" about revealing that! Everyone watches what you eat. They will constantly ask you, "are you suppose to eat that". They will question why you couldn't lose weight on your own and not have to rely on an implemented device. They will ask why you haven't lost more weight than you have (even though you have lost "tons"). My opinion......only tell the people that you absolutly trust and love the most.

    how much should you lose?

Weight loss can be slow with bandsters who have a low BMI however I started with a BMI of 33 ( but didnt do a pre op diet). After I was banded I lost 20 lbs in my first post op month. Within 4 months I had lost about 55 lbs. It is the last 15 pounds that are killing me, not the first. Don't worry if you don't lost a lot before being banded. As long as you follow your doctors orders, have a good diet and exercise you will lose your weight. Also don't be discouraged if you weight loss is slow. We all lose differently but get the end result that we are hoping for. You can do this
  14. Hello! I had by pass on the 5th, 18 days ago. I did 7 days post op of just liquids, 7 days purees and now I am on soft food. On the 4th I was 239 and after 1 week after I went down to 226. It was the 12th. Since then I didn't lose a single pound. It is a little depressing also because for me it's difficult to reach 1000 kcal a day as my surgeon told me to do.... I am pretty active and i walk every day: I don't feel like going to the gym doing cardio unless I hit those 1000 calories. Is this normal???
  15. Unless you have some type of medical issue, there are pluses and minuses to each surgery. While lapband is the simplest surgery there is a significant number of persons who have the band slip or have major issues with it which requires another surgery to remove the band. The bypass reroutes digestion, however, is effective for resolving diabetes. The VSG leaves digestion intact and reduces the size of the stomach. VSG has fewer complications overall compared to the bypass. For me, the sleeve was an obvious choice as I ate very healthy foods, however, portion control was my biggest issue. I also am not open to the idea of another surgery. Once is enough! In short, depending on your current health, any of the 3 surgeries could be appropriate. I would suggest you go to some different weight loss seminars and determine what you are comfortable with. Good luck.

    Freaking out about hairloss

I had the sleeve in March 2014 and have lost 62 lbs. I have always had excessively thick hair and it was my best feature. I have lost 2/3 of it in the past month. Everytime I wash my hair it looks like a small rodent has died in my shower. I just saw my doctor last week and all my labs are very good. I get enough Protein, Vitamins, and Water. I did lose weight fast so that may be the problem. I'm going to do the Biotin, Super B Complex, and Acai juice in hopes my hair will grow back.

    Honest

So, now that I'm almost 3 months out and down 37 lbs since surgery, 61 lbs total since i started in April, ppl have started to really notice my weight loss. So many people ask me how I'm doing it, and I hate that I feel so weird being honest that I had weight loss surgery. I always feel like they are judging me. I know I shouldn't care, but it bothers me that I do! Does anyone else feel this way?

    Liquid Diet a Question

The NUT said no liquids. It wasn't until I talked to my surgeon about how to make it through two weeks of liquid diet...that's when he told me to have a grilled chicken breast & veggies on Fri/Sat to help me out. He said I would still lose weight just fine.

    HUNGER question- help!

I wasn’t able to eat much at a month out but every journey is different. Are you hitting your protein goals? Are you losing weight? Drinking enough liquids?
  22. On the bus going to my last Dr. supervised weight loss appointment. Tuesday is my pysch eval (hopefully my Dr. will do it) and then I get to send everything to my Dr. for insurance approval. I'm so excited right now and really hoping everything turns out the way I want it to. Fingers crossed that BCBS Fed approves me. :-)
  23. Magicmuffin i know what you mean about struggling with your weight after the birth of your kids. Good abdominal exercises???

Planks are excellent cause they work the entire core - front, back, chest, and hips/legs. Any kind of core work is a fantastic idea. There are a ton of options. I also really like the mountain climber (if you do look it up - I do a slower, more controlled version, keeping my body in a straight line - don't lift the hips up and curve the back or you negate most core work). If you do decide to go with sit-ups, studies have shown that quicker reps work your abs harder than a slow, controlled movement. :frown: To add...about the underarms. Two very good workouts are either the close-grip bench press or push-ups with the hands closer together. Two options, there - so whether or not you have access to a weight room, you can go either direction.
  25. I hope to God people are still taking Vitamins a year out! That's a lifelong thing. You'd be crazy to stop! You don't suddenly stop needing vitamins and minerals just because you reach your goal weight.... Here's what I take daily. Many of these things I took for years pre-op as well: 2x Bariatric Multivitamin - I use the brand recommended by my nutritionist, Vitaleph. The recommendation is to take 3 per day at different times, but I cut down to two a day one I was confident I was getting a reasonable amount of nutrients from my food. 1x Probiotic - Also recommended by my nutritionist. I take Insync brand. 1000mg Vitamin C - Been taking this for years, but I was told it can also help with skin elasticity as we lose weight. 200mg coq10 - Been taking this for years, as recommended by my PCP, for my carpel tunnel. 1000mg Omega 3 - Been taking this for years because I don't eat fish. 1000iu Vitamin D - Been taking this for years because I live in Rochester, NY where it's cloudy and cold like 90% of the time. 2x Citrical Maximum - Started this post-op at the direction of my nutritionist. Used to take 2x Tums daily, but my nutritionist recommended calcium citrate (Citrical) over Calcium Carbonate (Tums). She also explained that I should take my calcium separate from my Multivitamin, because Iron and calcium compete for absorption. So I take my Calcium at night and my multivitamin in the morning and afternoon. Edit: Forgot to list my 500mcg liquid B12 spray, which I use daily.
