  1. 3 miles a day sounds like a lot to me for 1 week post op, but it’s a great habit that you’re forming if your surgeon is okay with you walking that much so soon. I didn’t walk enough at first. In fact, I didn’t get my exercise groove back on until 10 weeks post op (I was cleared to do so after a month). But still- 3 miles a day sounds like a lot! Regarding eating too much... early on I found myself in that situation more than once! What helped me fix the problem was that I measure thing I think I could eat too much of. At my stage, they say I should be eating half a cup, so I put what I want to eat in a 1/2 cup measuring spoon and then dump that on my plate! At your stage it’s probably closer to 1/4 cup that you should be consuming per meal, but your surgeon can give you the correct amount. Measuring has really cut down on that dreaded “oh no! I ate too much!!!” feeling for me. Good luck! It gets better!
  2. This topic was just reported by a member. I did a google search for Nyeshia Skipwith and just came across this article https://patch.com/new-york/shirley-mastic/pedestrian-struck-shirley-cops SHIRLEY, NY — A pedestrian struck Wednesday afternoon in Shirley has died, police said. Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating the crash that involved Rayvern Matthews, 66, of Shirley, who was crossing the southbound William Floyd Parkway at Brushwood Drive when he was struck by a 2014 Mercedes C300 traveling southbound driven by Nyeshia Skipwith, 31, of Shirley, at 1:10 p.m, police said. Matthews suffered severe head trauma and was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in East Patchogue, where he died from his injuries, police said. Skipwith was not injured and stayed at the scene, police said. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.

A Marine is never " only" Greg! Those are some of the finest and truest young men and young women you could ever hope to meet! That said I shall go out on a "branch"🐵Mine humble opinion: the end of 2018-early 2019. Now just watch, you will either say " My oh My, that Frustr8 is one smart woman" or " That Frustr8, she never gets anything right!" And I feel like recently,I've been a little, bit of both, but welcome, congratulations on making a commitment to future health and hang with us! We are a nice group of,people.👸👨👩👴👵🎁
  4. I just spent my entire day in the ER. I have been feeling so miserable the past week or so. Have not been able to naturally have a bm and even with soemthing it sometimes doesn’t happen. I have absolutely no appetite at all. I’m repulsed by any food. I’m experiencing constant nausea, dehydrated, and severe constipation. I don’t know what to do! I feel so absolutely miserable. I feel worse than I did right after surgery. Horrible pain in the core of my abdomen and such nauseaCat scan, bloodwork came back fine but no one gave me an explanation as to why I feel so miserable! any experiences like this? 😢😢

    40 something sleevers?

I'm 45, 44 at surgery. I had my surgery a year ago tomorrow and yes wish I had done it 10 years ago. The change in my life is just simple amazing. I met my Dr's goal weight at the beginning of June (150lbs). I will admit I've done zero with following anything other than maintaining that goal for 3.5 months. Now I'm back at it because I've adjusted my own goal by 5 lbs. I'm applying all the things I've learned and the weight is falling off again. I have no doubt I'll meet my new goal. But health wise, I feel amazing, I feel 10 years younger. I love how I can buy cute cute clothes now and they fit like a dream. I have energy. Other than occasional heartburn, I have zero issues.

  13. Hi everyone, I keep reading horror stories about Sleevers past 5 or 10 years. I’m wondering if there are any of veteran sleevers with no revisions, major miserable side effects, issues, weight gain from expanded sleeve, that are still thriving and happy with their choice? I’m a week post op and everyone’s horror stories are causing me major regrets and fear.
  14. Sorry for the delay in response, I used to be able to hit quote on cell phone and just respond and now I can't and I must log in each time then thread through the messages, ugh...anywho, back to your question... So it's MUCH easier than I thought! 1 Scoop Gen Pro in Green Smoothie or Coffee = 30g protein! If you use Soy Milk in your smoothie that's an EXTRA 7g protein so 37g just in the morning. Then I like me a solid protien suppliment. So like a PureProtein Silky chocolate Bar (which totally feels like a desert treat to me) is another 21g Protein so that right there is 58g protein. I usually keep it in my purse when going out or shopping and in stressful situations (such as the British festival in Central Market yesterday where they had my favorite Chocolate covered Shortbread cookies available to SAMPLE!!!), I take a bite to take the edge of.f Add a NeuroProtein Water for 10 more G and you are at 68 g for the day! Now if you do even 1 shake like Premier, you are at 98g protein!!! but I don't always go that route. I will do humus or a Crunchy Protein Chip snack for extra 10 - 15 g protein Sometimes for snack I'll have 5 Whole Wheat Crackers and 5 Cashews = A couple more protein grams here and there. Then there are protein substitutes, like Meatless Meatballs, Meatless Crabcake balls, etc that are packed with protein and are a quick cook! So most days I wind up with well over 80g protein! Like they other day I had 106 protein, 58 Net Carbs and 820calories, with 23 sugars (but all the good kind). The fiber in the fruits and veggies helps drive down my Net Carbs, cuz you can subtract those back out. But the most important part of this is that I feel like I'm nourishing my body. I mean yeah the docs would like you to be All Protein, NO Sugar etc etc, but is that sustainable? Is that good for you? And also, Megan, you are loosing weight wonderfully!!! OMG you are doing great, so I would not stress about the exact mix. For me, it's less about loosing weight and more about GAINING health and vitality, and loving and respecting my body enough to nourish and take care of it. The weight loss is a natural byproduct of that. Since yesterday another pound rolled off, but not through food punishment and starvation and a negative relationship with food that has plagued me all my life, but a vibrant positive attitude towards eating coupled with enjoying every morsel of what I eat. I am using Baritastic to track stuff...I don't particularly like tracking. You're a slave to the scale, a slave to the app (I know it's good for accountability etc), but once I am cleared for all foods...which, at this point, I'm at 5 weeks and like I said, I've kinda been doing my own research and carving out a healthy plan I can adhere to, the idea will be to ditch the incessant tracking, weighing, stressing and obsessing, and learn to listen to my body with love and compassion. I know it sounds corny, BUT...this being my 3rd rodeo and all, I know that at first, you are all into the numbers, the digits, the macro nutrients etc etc, and you can really burn yourself out on that and become sick of it, which can derail you and lead to weight gain in the end. No Bueno! A good plan is one you can stick to long term. I also know I don't want to wind up deficient and sick. Like after my Sleeve, I wounded up so Anemic and raggedy and tired, I was going in every 3 weeks for Iron infusions. Sitting there with my Elective mess along with other patients who where there for bonafide serious stuff like Chemo. I was feeling, unhealthy and demoralized. Like I had gotten the whole food thing wrong. A horrible place to be mentally and physically. Anywho, hope this helps. It's just my advice, and of course I'm not a doctor or anything. BUT I also know that I cannot fully trust a doctor or surgeon etc with MY health. The medical system is too disjointed! I cannot trust my OB completely, to them I'm just a Uterus, I cannot trust my Bariatric Surgeon competly, to him my success lies in the Scale numbrer and my health is so much more than a number etc. So all this to say I am a firm believer in you being an informed patient that listens not only to others but to what your body is trying to tell you as well

    Any March 2018 Sleevers?

I'm down 56 lbs. which seems low to me but my surgeon says that my results are exceptional. I'm 4' 11". I started at a size 16/XL almost 18 and I'm now a 8/10/Medium. I have about 20 lbs. more to lose based on the goal given to me by my nutritionist. It's interesting because I had originally selected a goal of 135 lbs. but I guess in looking at my body composition and muscle tone she felt I could be heavier. I do have muscular legs and I wanted to keep my curves. I've been in the gym strength training since 6-weeks post-op. I feel stronger, definitely much lighter. My main goal is to continue to reduce the fat around my waist and inner thigh (I'm hoping this is where the rest of the 20 lbs. will come from because I really don't have fat anywhere else), build muscles and shape my body.

    October 2018 Sleevers

Just wondering about two things here. Has anyone’s doctor said they are sending them home with no pain meds? I had my pre op yesterday and the nurse told me that and I asked why and she said I’ll only need Tylenol. Also, on my upper GI showed a moderate amount of reflux so doctor asked me if I wanted to switch to having the bypass. I do not want to switch but they said reflux could get worse. I am praying not. Feeling a little uncertain today. I am on day 8 of liquids. I lost 10 pounds. I am starving to death and just scraped I’m going to come home In toms of pain and having worse reflux than I do. Ugh so much to worry about

  21. Ha! Ok, so will we ever get over our love/hate with the scale? I'm sicker than a dog. Am not eating cuz I feel like total poop. Didn't get my protein in yesterday. Basically drank hot tea and decaff coffee black all day, had some popcorn at the game last night (very salty). Choked down about 3oz of protein drink and that's all I could handle. Had sf cough drops and about 5g of coconut oil in my coffee as an antiviral. And exercised VERY well. Today I'm up a couple of pounds to 160.8lbs. GAH!!!! No fair, no fair, NO FAIR!!!! LOL. I had a stellar fasting day yesterday despite being sick. Only minor hunger at 3pm. We were supposed to go to dinner after the game but it went 13 innings. We didn't get home until midnight and by then I sure as hell wasn't gonna eat. So I fell into bed and slept. Then woke this morning feeling pretty bad. Will not fast beyond the 14/10 or 16/8, then will eat soup and greens all day. But I just think, I still do this. Daily. Stress about my weight and the scale and non-compliance of my weight in conjunction with pure heart and actions. LOL! Makes me want to run out and pound down some contraband food! So silly!
  22. Okay so long story as short as I can get it...I had a lapband surg in Dec 2012. Within a year and 6 months I had lost 210lbs. About a week after hitting my goal weight I started getting sick, couldn't keep nothing down (not even water) and noticed I started swelling. I went to the hospital got my band let out and was able to start drinking and eating again. Well within 2 wks I had put on 50lbs (I know this is crazy and I was told that there was no way but I went from a size 10 in pants to a 16) Well here we are 2018 I have since put back on all the weight that I had lost but I still have restriction in my band. There are some days that I can't get anything down. I can't find any doctor to help with my band since the doc who did it has moved. I don't know what to do but I really want to get back on track. I have a one year old that I want to run around with! Any suggestions on what I could do? I have done different diets but I can't get the same results I did from the band.

    October 2018 Sleevers

We've got this gang! So wonderful to have such a community to rely on! My surgery has been moved, one day, to 10/23. I've announced my medical leave at work (although I just said major surgery, not gastric sleeve. I think they all think I'm getting a hysterectomy!) Coffee and sodas are long gone. Start the (mainly) liquid diet on Oct 8, but have been substituting in protein shakes at breakfast already. We'll see. Giving up wine 10/1. It's so heartening to read your posts and to feel like we're in this together!
