Your doctor will tell you what he wants you to do. They all seem to do something different when it comes to the pre AND post op diets. Mine required 1 week of liquids. I did 2 weeks and I'm glad I did. It detoxed my body of the carbs, sugar, and crap, jump started my weight loss (I lost 14lbs), and just made the transition after surgery so much easier. <O:p Best of luck to you!<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

I've had 3 fills so far. The first 2 he only put in 1cc and I felt no restriction. The 3rd he put in 3cc's for a total of 5cc's and I had great restriction up until a couple of days ago. The hunger is creeping back in and I know I notice I'm eating a little more. I'm scheduled for my 4th fill next week and feel that 1cc might put me at my sweet spot!!

14cc band with 6.5 cc after three fills I definitely have restriction. I'm having to eat slower and with smaller bites but I'm not having to PB or anything so I may actually be at my sweet spot. I find I don't need a ton of restriction to stay on track. Restriction is a very individual thing and some people will achieve their sweet spot with a small amount while others don't get there until they are almost full! I get my next fill the first week in June and my husband and I are taking the motorcycles up to NC next weekend for five days. Our first stop on Thursday afternoon is at a bed in Breakfast that supposedly has wonderful home cooked meals. First day of vacation and I'll be tested right away! It will also be my first time away from the scale since surgery! I'll be going through withdrawals by the time I get back the following Tuesday evening. I can see me now, running in the door, ripping off my clothes and stepping on the scale! LOL Anyway, wish me luck!

14cc band currently 6.5 (have had 3 fills) still hoping for restriction.....had a slight restriction the last fill which lasted about 1 week. Next fill not until mid -June...watch your food, because I may swoop in and steal it!

Hello fellow Michigander! I'm right down the road from you in Pinckney. I moved here from Ann Arbor 2 years ago. I've been banded for a whopping 7 weeks, and I couldn't be happier with my decision. I didn't know Barix performed the lapband surgery, but I have a friend who had a good RNY experience there. Good luck with your surgery!!

Traveling away from home, what do I need?
lsereno replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I recommend sticking with a line about recent tummy troubles for those that don't want to share sleeve stories. Covers why you can't eat pizza and wings. Just throw that line out there and order the most bland soft thing on the menu or if there is truly nothing that will work, sip your drink and chat everyone up. I also recommend a blender ball cup, Protein powder and some flavoring. I used vanilla Protein Powder, starbucks instant decaf and Water when traveling. Mixed with room temp water, it tastes like a latte. I also packed sugar free drink mixes to blend with water. I had a Protein Drink two to three times per day to get me to protein goals while traveling. Easy protein food choices include fish, yogurt, string cheese, and cottage cheese. Enjoy your trip! 18 days post surgery and feelin frustrated..
thinatheart commented on dgarces13's blog entry in Blog 92579
My opinion is that you placed your body into "starvation" mode. Try uping your calories to 1200 and see what happens. I have been staying between 1100 to 1400 and I have lost 12.5 since the day before surgery. I am excercising now and I am 2.5 weeks post op. Good luck! -
Probably normal pain but need reinforcement
snokb04 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I am 2 weeks and 3 days out. My pain has been gone since my 7 day post-op with the exception of some pain with bending and laying in bed. Now that the abdominal swelling is gone, I can feel small knots under some of the incisions which I am sure are from the internal suturing. Here is the issue. The left abdomen incision (the one the stomach came out of and most of the instruments were in) has a much bigger knot than the rest. Maybe the size of 2 mini-cadbury eggs or half a whole cadbury egg. The pain when I bend has gotten a bit worse instead of better (burning and shooting) and sometimes I feel like I'm having muscle spasms or something. Bad enough that I can't bend without crying out in pain so I can't bend. I guess I am concerned about a hernia, although I know the incidence of herniation is extremely low with sleeve. Also, I am supposed to go back to work next week. I am a nurse, so I am unsure how I will go back to work without being able to bend. (Yes, I may be a nurse and a surgical nurse, but not a bariatric surgical nurse so what I know about something this specific to this surgery is what I've researched and what the classes my program offers tell me) I know I could call my doctor's office, but I'd hate to do that with a stupid question. What do you guys think? -
Waiting for Tuesday so my doctors office can send off my paper work to the insurance company. Hope to hear back from them in a few weeks. But until then I will be getting everything all ready for a successful surgery Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had my surgery on August 2010. I got pregnant in November. I am now 9 weeks pregnant. I was not planning but it happened. So far all is good. I am glad that I have the band because it allows me to eat what I crave but also eat in moderation. As of today I lost 10lbs. !

When does constipation ease up
trekker954 replied to Jamieson's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 13 weeks out. Supposedly it should get better once you add vegetables and Fiber back into your diet. I've only just been clear for vegetables, but just a small amount vs Protein. So far I really haven't seen much improvement. It seems I have a teeny tiny BM every five days or so. And that is usually helped with dulcolox. ugh. I almost recjoice afterwards. I can almost guarantee a weight loss the next day. -
Last night I was eating dinner...pork chops and mashed potatoes. I did really well for the first few bites, so I decided to have a little more. BIG mistake! I started getting the feeling that I was too full. It was almost like the feeling where you feel like something is stuck...but if you wait it out it'll pass. No pain, just some burping and a little uncomfortable. 3 hrs later I had a sugar free Popsicle and had trouble getting it down. I drank some liquid and threw that up along with the Popsicle. I thought that would make me feel better, but this morning I still can't even keep liquids down. I'm afraid to call the Dr. Because I don't want them to take any fluid out of my band or stick a tube down my throat. My band is NOT too tight. I'm only on 2nd fill and have been doing very well with it for weeks now. Anyone know what might be going on?

I don't even know how to post given the iPad system is so disjointed, but I hope you read this. I love the people here, but I hate the Internet site on my iPad and the app sucks. I it her get too many notifications or none. I'm giving it a week to be fixed and then I'll find another site. -
GM Everyone, I am almost 3 weeks post op and I'm ready to go back to work. I really feel it's because I lost my spouse on 11/28/12 and my grief is still very raw. Being home all day is a 24/7 constant reminder that I don't have him by my side. When I looked to the left, he was always there, he was my rocked when I faltered and it's a constant, unbearable hurt. I MISS HIM!!! At least while I was at work that was 8hrs of my day that I needed to concentrate on something other than my grief. And although that was hard as hell, being home all dayum day is harder, I'm 21.5 pds down and on the soft stage phase 2, I stepped on the scale and noticed I gained like a pd 1/2 back. How is that possible? I thought the meaning of being sleeved was to lose, not gain. Anyway, lot's of mixed emotions going on this morning, I'm going to pray on them and let my mind get back to continued success at this life changing decision. Blessings, MzO

Hello Fellow Sleevers! Feeling good this morning! Stepped on the scaled and I'm down 3 more pounds! Fist pumps! One thing I don't do is continuously weigh myself. That would drive me crazy because as I have found out, even though it's early, my body likes to retain water if I eat the slightest thing salty. Hence seeing three pounds creep back on me the first week I was on creamed chicken soup. I'm was pissed and annoyed to see that because the purpose of the surgery is to lose, not gain. Of course after I exploded on my dietitian, she casually said it was because of the cream of chicken soup being salty. I think a clue for 100 Alex would have been better, it should have been discussed in the beginning when we started that stage that some things may or may not make you retain water and also constipate you since you wouldn't being eating a lot of fiber. You can't get all that water down that they ask you to do in the beginning. Realistically it's just not possible, but you work towards trying. Fast forward to this morning, me jumping on the scale and seeing the 3 pounds lost. I still haven't incorporated daily exercise into my life. I know I have too. I enjoy walking and have done it a couple of times but not with consistency. That's the next phase I have to ease into... Well, that's my exciting news for today. I am really happy about that! Continued success to all whom are traveling on this journey. Blessings, MzO

Wow! Ebby, I am super jealous! I only wish that my husband would do the surgery. He claims to have gained 10 lbs in 1 week. He has super slow metabolism, and he has finally started to try a liquid diet. But, he doesn't eat much, he is just a major couch potato. He has lots of co-mortibities, so he would be great candidate . I wish you and your hubby luck, you sound like the two of you will have much success. Good luck, Karen

Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor 2010 Goal Challenge: Let's do this!!
Sandyjean replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I too have struggled for several months now. I have even avoided my doc b/c I know I will hear him fuss and complain about "what I'm doing wrong". I know I am doing some things right but there are some things I need to work on. I am in for this challenge! I teach at the local High School and Summer is almost here. Since I do work 2 jobs, when Summer comes around....it's really gonna be on!!! I try to get to the gym 3-4 times a week now, but hopefully when I don't have to worry about job#1, I will have everyday to devote to working out more. My eating habits are getting better as well. Being so busy, I have a hard time eating slow and eating healthy foods. I eat on the go and I know that is something I need to try not to do. So like I said....I am in! My short term goal is to loose 50 more pounds before August 15, 2010!!!!! That is about 10 lbs a month. My long term goal is to loose 115-120 more. WE CAN DO IT!!   -
I had mine removed years ago (haven't had WLS yet). It's similar in terms of the gas in your abdomen and incisions. I was done on an emergency basis so the pain before surgery was so horrific that I don't even remember pain after being an issue. I was out of work for 2-3 weeks I believe.

are you happy with the decision to have the sleeve procedure done, what has changed in your life and why you would do it again? Please rant.
swimmom replied to sittingpretty64's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am VERY glad I had it done, and yes, even though I am only 3 weeks post-op, I believe I'd have it done again. It has changed my life very dramatically already - it is forcing me into a much healthier eating pattern and lifestyle. I have had to re-learn how to eat and drink all over again. There is no gorging on anything without getting sick. And the weight loss so far has been phenomenal! However, I would caution anyone considering this to DO YOUR RESEARCH. This is not a magic bullet - it takes lots of work, and requires commitment. Fortunately, I attended a support group BEFORE having this done, and heard from a lot of post-op people about the hurdles they faced. I am sometimes shocked when I hear people on this forum talk about how unprepared they were. As long as you are committed to changing your lifestyle post-op (and maintaining that new lifestyle longterm), this is a GREAT option!!!! -
I was told because of the air you swallow just as you do when drinking from a straw. Other than the first few days postop, I've had no issues with gas. I've been chewing gum and drinking from a straw almost daily since a week or so postop. I'm now 4 weeks postop and still have no issues with either.
