2 monthes post op and have lost no weight since week 5
Roxydoll67 replied to Roxydoll67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink a protein shake for breakfast and the other half for lunch with two scoops of powder and a Greek yogurt which gives me about 48 grams from powder and 13 from yogurt which is nearly 60 grams and only about 320 calories. Each scoop is 24 grams and 130 calories x2 and the yogurt is 13 grams and 80 calories totaling 61 grams of protein and 320 calories. For dinner usually about half of a 5 oz chicken breast or fish. I drink my required water almost every day -
May Sleevers...where are you?
TheRealMeIsHere! replied to bvenegas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try different protein shakes. I, personally, did not like the thicker ones, such as Muscle milk light. My favs have been EAS AdvantEdge rtd, and Designer whey. I mix the chocolate powder with water and crushed ice, then blend till thick and creamy, in a bullet. You can even add PB2. Alot of people, also like the Nectar products, which are not milky and come in TONS of flavors. Other sources of protein include: egg substitute (is pasteurized so can even be added to shakes) fat free cottage chese/ricotta (you can season the ricotta like you would for stuffed shells and heat with low carb sauce or I have a recipe for cannoli cream) ff/sf Greek yogurt I was allowed those things, even in the liquid phase Are you on regular food? If so, i can give you some recipes for protein pancakes, muffins and cookies. Good luck, it DOES get easier. -
How did you get past the liquid stage? Feeling hopeless
All done replied to cuchas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good morning I am just starting day 5 post op. I have never been more excited not to be able to eat. .. My NUT had me start a preop diet about 4 weeks out. Cutting out all my carbs like bread rice pasta etc. ..really worked with me to eat healthy proteins and get into a routine. Then I had clear liquids for 3 days prior to surgery. So I am on my last day of clear liquids and I am finding that with having numerous choices around me, wether it's drinkable yogurt or flavored water my jello or Popsicles. I treat each on like a treat so I feel like I am getting something pretty special. Plus really no dishes and no prep time... I spend my time focusing on how lucky I am to geta ssecond chance and getting healthy with my sleeve buddy and I am treating him right...song what he needs to heal. I don't want to screw this up. I spend a lot of time not focusing on food anymore but on doing what is healthy for my body. My therapist has been amazing at helping me dig out food issues and my NUT has been so hands on with me that I have so much support its hard to believe that I could fail at this. Next stage starts tomorrow I move from clear liquids to the full liquid stage for 2 weeks....I think the month prior to the surgery really helped and also of course the 6 months with my therapist has been a game changer. .. I have about 14 days on the full liquids. New recipes here we come. .. Hope everyone has much success with reaching their goals. Tiny little steps to the finish line May u all be healthy -
Any May 26th Sleevers out there?
scoutmom replied to scoutmom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am also having hard time with the Protein and Water. Really need to double my efforts and make drinking water a part time job. At my two week check up, the nurse practitioner was right to read me the riot act about not getting enough Vitamins and water. Still on mushy foods for another 4 weeks. Refried Beans, cheese and non fat sour cream are my nightly go-to for dinner. Yum. I tried to eat hummus and tummy did not like it. Was able to add yogurt (love greek yogurt) and cottage cheese (this was great with a quarter of a mushed up banana and cinnamon). This is strange - but in the past 2 days I am experiencing super painful swollen gums and headaches. I am assuming due to dehydration. But going to check in the with NUT in the morning as it is not something I've had problems with ever before surgery. Does everyone weigh themselves each day? -
Terrified I can eat to much

Dense proteins are protein that is heavier and will stay in your sleeve longer. Such as chicken or fish as opposed to say yogurt. -
Ok. WTF am I doing wrong?
thecakewasalie replied to thecakewasalie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
15 pounds in 7 days is a huge amount of loss. There might be some yogurts with less carbs but look at your total for the day. It seems like everyone everywhere has a different idea of what is the right way to eat. I eat 30 or less a day and I am still not losing. I gave up yogurt and pretty much anything else like it and I am just barely losing .2 pounds a week. Hang in there love. -
Ugh I'm messing up already
BackSpin81 replied to bb3586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Refried beans are amazing! Unsweetened apple sauce, fat free/sugar free pudding, tuna in water in the can or pouch, salmon in a can/pouch, chicken salad, Greek yogurt, Baby Bel cheese reg or light, Laughing cow cheese, baby food, wet scrambled egg whites are things that I lived on in week 3 through 5. -
Hunger, Cravings, etc. Post-Op
Spiceyfrog replied to sarahbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@ejones8979 when I went to my post-op appointment last Friday, the doctor told me I could transition this Tuesday, which will be two weeks exactly. I am looking forward to it, but more for a change of pace, not that I am craving food. I went shopping today and stocked up on Soup, yogurt, pudding and cottage cheese :-) -
HUNGER - is it really reduced?
missheidi47 replied to bhopeful's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm almost 3 months out and I get hungry, but it's usually when it's probably time to eat. It's really hot in Charlotte right now, and my appetite is reduced because of the heat. I've been eating Greek yogurt for dinner, and I'm full after 5 ounces. I agree that the hunger is not as bothersome as it was before surgery. Also, because Water fills me up, I can drink water to stave off the hunger for a bit. -
Post sleeved Group Question
missheidi47 replied to AJ cowgirl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm almost 3 months out. I did not have a problem getting my liquids or Protein, really from the beginning. I've also had almost no nausea. I've lost 47 pounds (including the pre-op diet.) Even though I had no trouble getting in my liquids, I'm full after eating 5 ounces of Greek yogurt even now. My sleeve is definitely working for me. I think I was just blessed with a relatively easy postop course. Sounds like you were too. The weight will come off. It seemed slow to me in the beginning, but losing 47 pounds since mid-March is not really slow, so I'm not complaining. Good luck! -
1 week out, not losing weight?
Katie Loesch-Meyer posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost weight on the pre-op diet, but a week out from surgery I've only lost a few more. I'm down 17lbs, 13 of which was on the pre-op diet. 4 since surgery a week ago. And honestly I lost more than that the first few days (dehydration I imagine) and gained a pound or tow in the last two days. Should I assume this is just my body reacting to surgery, swelling, etc? In the first few days I was home my rings fit perfectly for the first time in a long time, but now they are tight again. I had a hernia repair too and had a lot of trouble getting fluids down do to swelling in the esophogus...they put me on some medication that helped and today is the first day I'm going to hit my 65oz of Fluid. The last two days it was around 40-45oz, and before that under 30oz. I got 60 grams of Protein the last two days, 40 the day before that, and less before that. Was on clear fluids the first 3 days. Now on full fluids, including cream Soups, yogurt, sugar free pudding, and of course shakes (they don't go down so well) and Protein powder added to things. Carbs have been between 39 and 65. Calories have been around 350-500, today I'm higher though, around 650. I was losing well on 800-1000 a day in pre-op, it seems crazy that I'm losing less now while eating less. -
HELP! what are the amounts of things you are suppose to eat post op?
JamieLogical replied to tiarowley's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree with all the others who say to try to get a detailed plan from your surgeon/nutritionist. In my very early days post-op (within the first week) I was encouraged to get as much Water as possible, but I was also allowed to drink decaf tea, 50/50 fruit juice and water, Vitamin water, and G2. I was told to cut out the caloric beverages ASAP, but if I needed them to get in all my fluids in the first week, it was okay. I was allowed my Protein shakes two days post-op and drinkable yogurt at 4 days post-op. -

Eight days post surgery!
likelike replied to LynRey70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was at 8 days they had me on soft foods, meaning yogurt and a few other items. That stage sucked for me. But I did try grits with a little bit of cheese on it. Real good and helped me with cravings. -
Sad about missing food
michellemartin961 replied to Mcgann320's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree...I can't take in more than 1-1.5oz of soft protein at 4 weeks without it coming back up in most cases regardless of how slow I eat or chew. It hasn't helped that I'm going through a breakup either. Now food isn't my comforting friend (thank goodness!) but instead is only a have too for nutritional means only! Food commercials actually disgust me now! I live alone so don't have to worry about watching others eat or having to cook for other people which does help. Greek yogurt with added Protein powder is my mainstay at this point for between 35-40g protein dependent on the protein powder each serving. My daughter and friend tell me this is temporary (the inability to tolerate soft proteins). Like you, I have no regrets about surgery just worries about nutrition and getting my fluids in! Michelle -
To the newly sleeved..... What does your daily diet look like so far.

I was sleeved on June 8th so today is my 14th day/ I have a Premier shake for breakfast (30g protein/140 cals) lunch is a protein shake made in my water bottle w/ 1-1/2 scoop natural protein powder, 2 individual Crystal Lite packets and 24oz of water (30 g protein, 145 cals) snack is Dannon Lite & Fit Greek Yogurt (12g protein, 80 cals) Dinner is another water bottle shake for 145 cals/ 30 g protein. Getting 80+ oz of water and over 100g protein. -
I can speak to the second part of your question. I've been eating 800-1000 calories per day for two years now -- actually more like 500-800 for the first year. I'm down over 180 lbs and am perfectly healthy. I take my Vitamins and eat a diet focused on lean meats, healthy fats, and green veggies. I also eat fruit, tree nuts, and dairy (mostly just yogurt) sparingly. I have my blood work done regularly and it always looks great. I have tons of energy, and do serious exercise (running, HIIT, etc.) for at least 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week. The idea that you have to eat at least 1200 calories a day in order to be healthy is a myth. I'm almost convinced it's perpetrated by the diet/weight loss industry (Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, etc.) in order to keep people fat and ignorant. If we actually succeeded at weight loss, we wouldn't keep going back to them and paying them more and more money. eta: I don't want to sound like I am discouraging anyone from the sleeve surgery -- I love my sleeve! But unless there is a medical reason not to, I would encourage you to also discuss the gastric bypass with your surgeon. It is a great surgery, and I know lots of people who have had it with terrific results. Since restricted calories alone has not worked for you in the past, the extra mileage you get from malabsorption might be what you really need for the greatest success. Just something to think about!

Sugar free or low sugar frozen yogurt?

I love the Chobani tubes- they sell them in the regular yogurt section but they freeze really well and are high in protein and low in sugar. -

Daisy Girl replied to mandaroo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hopefulmom76 I agree with you. I am 11 days out and I can only get half a Protein shake down at a time. I have been concentrating on that rather than to have Soup because I don't want to fill up on soup and have no room for the protein. I try to get 1/2 protein shake for each Breakfast lunch and dinner with water in between and some times a protein/yogurt drink. I have a hard time remembering just to sip everything. If I don't sip, it either comes out the other end (sorry) or I get a stomach ache. Anybody else have this problem? -
It really isn't so much about the pain as it is about getting used to the new food plan which sounds easy buy it initially makes you feel very tired and lethargic. I had an excellent recovery with absolutely no complications at all. I was off all pain medications the day after I got home from the hospital. I was very tired and lethargic everyday for the first 4 weeks. I could have gone back to work at two weeks but would have wanted to sleep under my desk every afternoon! LOL! I was also on a very strict diet compared to some others I have read about. Week 1 Clear liquids only - focus was to stay hydrated Week 2 full liquids - this is where we added Protein shakes back in but I could barely get a whole shake down in one day Week 3 and 4 - puréed foods (my least favorite part of the plan) I lived on cottage cheese, yogurt, protein shakes) After week 4 I was allowed soft foods - this is when my energy level started to really pick up and could make it through a whole day without napping Week 6 I went to Las Vegas for 10 whole days and was actually back to my normal self. My nutritionist, surgeon and Bariatric nurse felt that I had sailed through my recovery. Not sure about others but just trying to give you a real picture. By the way, I have an extremely high tolerance for pain. 5 spine surgeries made this surgery look like having a tooth filled. I wish you all the best, please don't rush yourself! Allow your body and mind time to get used to this whole new world! You deserve it and the outcomes are so incredible. I am down 110lbs in just 8.5 months and feel fantastic. All comorbitities are in remission! Good luck!

I am like B52, what shape is your band in? have you had a fill lately have you had barium swallow to see if it's okay? otherwise, I eat Protein (major part of my meal) some veg, little fruit. Breakfast I eat eggbeaters or eggs, some kind of sausage or bacon usually turkey, no bread, no rice, no potatoes. lunch is usually either homemade chili, chicken salad, tuna salad, homemade Soups . dinner is meat, veg's. I do snack occasionally on sugar free pudding or yogurt. The band is my tool and I had mine done in 2013. I have had 3 fills and listen to the signals, like a burp, hiccup or nose running . I have gotten stuck because I didn't listen so it's still a process. If your band is in good shape you should be able to get back on track . If you did it once you can do it again.

I am using Champion Nutrition Ulramet. 42g Protein / pkg, 280 cal, 24 carb, 4 sugar. I love it! During this first two weeks to keep it thinner I am using 1/2 a pkg w/ 15 oz of Water plus a container of plain Greek yogurt and some mio flavoring. 39g protein. Great start to my day! I just have the vanilla now, waiting on the chocolate. Also....Yesterday I made soup using a cup of veg broth and a cup of V8- delicious! End the day with another Protein shake and lots of water, an occasional Jello in between and I'm good! Good luck everyone!

Losing the pre-op weight
xxjosettexx replied to Sleevie.Nicks's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I started my pre-op on the 9th of June, mine consisted of 2-3 protein shakes and one non fat Greek yogurt + unlimited sugar free jello, Popsicles and drinks. I started at 347, and I just weighed myself and I am 328, and I still have two days until surgery! With the diets they put you on its almost impossible to not lose weight! Good luck! You'll do great!
