    New NSV

I just moved down to a size 22 I swear only 10 lbs ago. Today I purchased a size 20 jean. The lady at the store said "those run small" so I am thrilled. Yes, they are snug. But as far as I am concerned if they zip up they fit! Yippeee. I'm under 250 now on the scale.

    No more sweating?

@@tobhappy&healthy - Thanks! And trust me, you will get there! One of my biggest NSVs (Non scale Victories)!

    NSV

The scale has not been so kind to me. I'm losing a lot slower than I thought I would. That being said I went to my pcp on Monday and my BP was too low!! He took me off all my BP meds. So I guess those 20 lbs and eating healthier has been worth it. I'm still happy that I had my sleeve and I know the weight will come off adventually. It is nice to be down 1 pant size and 2 top sizes. Trying to look at the positives!!!
  4. I am around 9-10 weeks out and can eat around 60% of my old capacity. I can eat 12-16 ounces of food with Normal size bites and chewing. I can chug liquids without even thinking about it. I feel like my surgery was a failure. My doctor said "just cause you CAN eat 16 ounces doesn't mean you should" well, no kidding but why did I go through all of this just for a slight reduction! I know surgery is a tool but there's no honeymoon period here! I watch everything I eat to keep at 1200 calories and it's a concerted effort. I do the elliptical for 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Results are so slow and I have been stalled for 4 or 5 weeks straight now. I am having NSVs but still can't help to feel depressed. My doc basically said that he doesn't want to over- restrict so I woud struggle to eat but I feel I have no boundaries, other than my own self imposed restrictions. I don't want to go through it again so I guess I just have to take the desire to loose and work hard...

    Scale victories & NSVs

Great work Darcey! Those are all wonderful NSVs! Not only do they inspire you, they inspire me!
  6. I am so happy! My scale hit under 260 today! Haven't seen those numbers in a very long time. I know my restriction is pretty high right now and changing jobs has made it harder to eat so I eat when I can and whatever I can get down. Some days I just concern myself more with getting my liquids and Water in than anything else. NSVs: 1. My attitude toward food is finally changing. I used to plan and think about what I would eat the next time I had opportunity to eat. Now, food is NOT my main concern with life. Plus I know now that if I feel uncomfortable after only 2 bites, it's OKAY to stop (and definitely is in my best interest). 2. Went to a concert of a friend last Saturday night and was told by several people (including one that doesn't really like me that much) that I looked fantastic. 3. Have had a few guys from my new place flirt with me (and we can't wear makeup or hairspray so I don't look my best when I'm there). 4. Started wearing size 20 jeans (even without elastic waistbands). At my surgery weight of 299, I was wearing 26/28 WITH elastic waists. 5. Employee at a nearby store stopped me to say I had lost a lot of weight how did I do it. Yes, I told her. 6. I can sit on the floor cross-legged now! I have always been limber, but couldn't do this because my stomach was in the way and balance was way off. 7. I can get into my mom's car without having to slide the seat back to accomodate my size. My stomach doesn't rub the steering wheel anymore!! 8. I am now working a job at nights from 6:45 pm to 7:15 am and even though I'm not on my feet all night like some are....I never could have done this kind of work 40 pounds ago. 9. Been doing home improvement stuff and am not afraid to get on step stools anymore. Was afraid of my balance being off and of breaking the darn thing! 10. Feeling so much more confident. I don't walk with my head down anymore. I'm sure there are many more, but these are the ones that really inspire me right now. Thank you! I love my band!

    OMG! I got felt up!

That is fantastic and amazing and kinda weird all at the same time! Great NSV though! Feeling someone's arm muscles is one thing but pecs... AND thighs?! Yeeeks that's a definite feel up for sure.
  9. vinesqueen

    From 53.9 to 29.9 I'm just overweight!

Woot! That is fab! Does this also count as a NSV? Oh sure, you had to loose the one pound to change your BMI, but I think you should also claim a NSV on this. You too Dylansmom, I think that counts as an NSV.
  10. NSV = non-scale victory. For those days when the scale is not moving, you can focus on other things to stay motivated. Mikey & I have been chatting about our NSVs, so I thought I'd start a list. These are the things we've noticed so far (approx 30 pounds lost each): We get up from the couch without help (Mikey used to push me up, then I'd pull him up) We can now "exercise" for 20 minutes at a time (we started at 2 min) Steps at church are easier (we sing on the praise team, so have to walk up steps in front of the congregation **shudder**) We're saving money on food. We're neither at perfect restriction, but we're eating SOOOO much less then we used to! Our wedding rings are fitting better -- our fingers aren't turning blue, heh. Janet: My pants are starting to fall off if I don't use a belt. My eyes almost show now when I smile. My knuckles feel skinny, lol. My knees don't hurt as badly. And they only swell on Sundays now. I can stand for 2 services & hardly notice. Monday's aren't as painful now. (After Sunday, I used to just stay in bed on Monday. Guaranteed sick day, period.) And the kicker.... I got my arms ALL the way around Mikey!! My fingers touched!!! (This is a function of both he & I losing, heh, so there's not as much "girth" in the way, lol.)

    New lingerie.......

I bet you will love shopping the closer you get to goal weight. I've always hated lingerie shopping because my boobs were always kind of floppy whenever I was thin and I have never looked good in underwear. I saw these sexy thongs and even cute little boy short undies, and I'd buy them and put them on, and be like, umm why does my butt not look like the picture?! I had several plastic surgeries, so I guess I cheated a bit, but for the first time in my life I can wear actual cute lingerie, look in the mirror, and not feel ridiculous. So..I can very much appreciate how excited you are. Also, I have the problem with running shoes...how you find the perfect fit or style of something and then they change it. I have been using the same style of Mizuno's for several years and they discontinued them. That is my current problem in that category, lol. Congrats on your NSV!

    First target reached

Thanks again for all the posts - it's great to read them. I know it's an old expression, but really, if I can do it, anyone can. If you're going through a slow or demoralising patch, keep with it and the weight will move in time - probably sooner than you think. Take strength from NSVs and don't get too hung up on scales. Give yourself a reasonable time scale to lose the weight. I gave myself a year. I'm very fortunate to have a great support network, including all my family and friends. Above all stay positive and have fun losing weight.
  13. Happy Belated Birthday! While I do like reading everyone's numbers and nsv's, I really appreciate it when people write about their emotions! My emotions run high and I think I will have the "fat brain, skinny body" issue as well. Congrats on living life and getting back on track!

  15. chicken was and still is one of the hardest things for Frankensleeve to digest. At 5 weeks, I was still eating Cream of Mushroom Soup for most of my meals. I ate Peanut Butter as well, but because of the calories in it, I limited myself to 2 tablespoons of peanut butter a day. But for the most part, I didn't eat anything else. It was months before I could really tolerate real food. After I graduated from soup, the next thing I found tolerable was refried Beans and turkey hamburger - and I ate it as my primary food for weeks and weeks. Here's my recipe: http://www.bariatricpal.com/blog/9018/entry-31168-my-favorite-mexican-food/ I've never lifted weights, but I did set a walking goal of 10,000 steps a day - starting the month after surgery. It took me a few months to reach that goal. Now I try speed walking - 3 miles a day @ 3.8 (or better) mph. http://www.bariatricpal.com/blog/9018/entry-31216-nsv-2-you-best-step-off-b-hatch/
  16. That's wonderful to read...and you should be happy to share! This is a wonderful NSV milestone for you have achieved. I have needed my sister at times to force me to look in the misses sizes for clothes...as my "head" has not caught up with my weight loss. It still takes alot of will power for me to stay away from the plus size department. Wise choice to save some money for fall clothes; I just purchased a light weight jacket for the cooler weather, as nothing I wore from last year fits me now. Congratulations on your progress!

    I've quit losing

What is an NSV? I suspect I may be secreting cortisol since Mother has been in the hospital twice in one week and the dog still has mange and people in my department are seriously upset about the unwonted changes to the M.A. program so now I have to have a meeting where everyone will be irritated. My clothes do seem to be bigger. In fact, I'm going to the clothes sales this week to get some in a smaller size. I got a size 18 Leslie Fay knit suit and it fits perfectly. Size 20 is way too big and I used to wear a 22. So I'm gaining on the weight, but I would like to see some improvement now. I don't exercise enough because I'm nearly 60 and it hurts. I suspect if I was 35, it would be easier to exercise. But I walk at school since I have to hike to my building and hike back up a hill. I still am trying to dance a little, but the last time I did it, I ended up sitting on a heating pad for days. Maybe if I know what an NSV is, it will help me psychologically. Thanks for the help.

    Loving exercising!

@@msjg46 fantastic! Congrats to you on your success and that you have exercise you love. What a great NSV for you!
  19. I asked Santa for a size 4 jeans so I could use them as my "goal" jeans. Well I must have been a really good girl this year because they fit perfectly! Merry Christmas everyone! May all your NSV's come true

    Question for the banded...

I'm with Capt'n Jack. I didn't feel so much depressed as the "oh my gawd, what have I done!!!???" I don't know that it helped that my body was freaking out as well. ("what is this thing?????? Ahhhh!!!" ) Things have to shift to accomidate the new port and tubing and band. But very soon I started to feel ever so much better, and the NSVs started to roll in. I did get depressed because I was a turtle, but I'm working on that. (well, the turtleness was only part of my depression.)

    My first NSV

So, today I was looking for a pair of jeans only to realize that they were all in the wash. So, I dug in my closet and pulled out all my 'next size down' jeans to find a pair I can squeeze myself into just for a short bit while I went and got my weekly coffee treat (its FF/SF so no worries). First pair I pulled on .. well I'll be damned they fit ... to big in the waist but that is my curse being small waisted big butted ( that word makes me giggle). So, I tried on another pair, same... then the other two .. same!!!!!!! YAY!! Not even 20lbs down and already I have slinked down to another size!! *dances around insanely*:w00t::ohmy::thumbup:

How many calories did you eat?

Vines, I ditto the answer above! I think if you have to go down to 800 to lose you should try to lose, but also bringing the exersize level up can help (grimmace - exersize sucks!!! ot at least I think it does). Anyways, most likely you will have no problems with your band and have it forever so you won't have to worry about weight gain if you ever had the band out. I just worry b/c I am only 26 and I haven't had kids yet so I would rather eat the 1200 calories now, lose weight slowly, have healthy babies, and then at that point I can weigh weigh loss v. metabolic slow down. Also, about the exersize - the basic thing to remeber is that if you burn more calories than you eat you will lose. Simple as that (unless you have a medical metabolic problem). So if you eat 1200 but move around enough to burn 1300 you'll lose, or eat 800 and move around enought to burn 900 you'll lose. I wasn't trying to scare anyone w/ the 1200 comment - I am just being proactive b/c unlike some people who think thier band will last forever, I have 60-70 years left in this lifetime (hopefully) and I don't see my band lasting that long -- I wish it would but I don't think it's realistic to expect it to (I know alot of people would argue with me on this but it's just my opinion). Anyways, I'm totally rambling on here, but the metabolic study Melissa suggested is an interesting idea. I would like to have that done too b/c my metablolism seems awfully slow! Anyways, good luck and even though you are a turtle I think you are doing great and I think your NSV list is really inspiring!!
