11 years post op, have gained 40 lbs, need to get rid of it.
rte837 replied to watterberry's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Consider all the $ you've spent in the past. Consider all the "programs" you've tried in the past. Did it make a difference? If you're Dr. (bariatric surgeon) is still in the area, consider asking him/her first. If you're willing to go on a program, perhaps the original bariatric rules would work just as well and cost less. Just a thought. I myself gained back 60 of the 108 lbs I'd lost. I ended up having a revision. But my Dr. was very supportive and worked with me before we came to that decision. Good luck. -

Revision from Sleeve to Bypass...
oldoneyoungagain replied to missmachine's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Welcome Missmachine. don't know how many will reply who have had sleeve to bypass revision as haven't seen much chatting for a month. If you go to Forum on the upper left hand side and select Forums Home then scoll to the main heading called "main gastric bypass surgery forums" scoll down in that area to sub heading "Band to Gastric Bypass Revisions" and click on that, yes I know you are talking the sleeve. Once that populates scoll down and there is a forum Sleeve to Gastric Bypass revisions or something to close to that. I noticed though most who have had this done are either communating in other forums now or not at all. There is nothing recent but there is some information, or stories that might be helpful. Hopefully someone who has had this done will respond who can answer any questions you might help. Hope this helps. -
I had my lap band and gall bladder out Jan 2015, I am retired Tricare, I have 5 comorbilities and my bariactric surgeon is requesting approval for the bypass now. Does anyone know if Tricare will cover this as a 2 stage revision after the lap band is removed?

Pain & Difficulty after Revision
sherrypep replied to Kristina J.'s topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Had my revision on May 6th and still having trouble getting my liquids/protein in. I can't do protein shakes either but I ordered these very expensive protein shots that are only 2.9 oz and have 25 grams of protein. I use them on days I really need the protein to give me strength. Now that I am on soft foods protein has become easier. I eat 2 80 Cal Greek Yogurts and 2 egg whites each day but I am finding it hard to get my liquids in between trying to remind myself to eat every 3 or 4 hours. Hang in there it will get easier. -
The other thing that I was told by surgeon if that revision patients lose way slower than a person who just got sleeve with no WLS prior

Is this normal after a tummy tuck?
thinatheart replied to BroncosGalAndrea's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had a tt years ago and had 2 drains and still had fluid pooling. I just had a hernia repair and they put in a drain and I still got a hemotoma. Friday I had the lapband placed and the hematoma removed. They put in a drain. I am grateful for the drain. I would be extremely upset and see another surgeon about a revision and get drains put in right away!! Good luck! -
Trying proteins before surgery.

I drank these often with my Lap-Band and my more recent revision to RNY. They are best SUPER cold. I use their powders a lot as well. -
Hit my goal... feeling slightly underwhelmed ...
Indigo1991 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Yesterday, I hit 140lbs for the first time in many years - and because I am still there today, I am claiming it as hitting my target, lol! I have now revised it down by another 5lbs but I think that those will go when I have my cosmetics done in 2014. So I have achieved what I set out to do on 26 April when I was sleeved. Pre and post op, I have lost 83.5lbs, a number I used to look at and never really believe I could lose that. At 5'2", with two comorbidities and others looming, my sleeve was really my last throw of the dice to sort a life long problem and restore my health. But I am surprised that I am not doing the wildly happy dance or calling up everyone I know to tell them. So i've been thinking - why not? Partly, it's because I have had the compliments on the way about my weight loss and don't feel like stating the bleedin' obvious in case it sets off everyone on the "ooh, don't lose any more" commentary (which has started). (Maybe I don't want someone to unwittingly do down what I have achieved with a careless comment...) Partly, it's because it's really the beginning not the end of this journey - now I have to maintain. Partly it's because my doctor told me last week that I was to be applauded for saving my own life. That was quite a statement that drove home to me the significance of what I have done. But the biggest reason why I think I am not leaping around is that I did this for me - and for me alone. No one told me to, for the first time in my life I was selfish, paid for the surgery without discussing it with anyone and put me first. So I know inside what I have achieved because I know the pain, pleasure and the crazy roller coaster ride I have gone through to get here. I know of the doubts, the fear and tears on the way. I know the highs and the lows, the dark days - and the good days. Of the support and friendship on this site that kept my head above the Water even if the people responding didn't realise the good they were doing. My thanks to each and every one of you. I have been fully present every step of the way, I haven't run away, I have lived it and I don't think anyone who hasn't been sleeved can fully appreciate this journey. For the first time in my life, I am going to do something different - I am going to give myself a pat on the back, mean it and accept it graciously. Well done Jacqui, you are a success, the rest of your life lies ahead - and there are now no excuses for not living it to the full :-)))))) Here's to a an amazing 2014 for us all x -
Is it too late to start again or did I totally screw up?

Just by coming on here and spilling your guts, so to speak, you know you want to solve this. You took the first step, now take the second one - you know what to do. Action precedes motivation. Do something, change something - #1 stop going to DD!!! Make your own coffee w caramel premier protein, #2 - track your food intake, even the bad stuff, #3 - protein first, then veg, #4 - vitamins, #5 - water. Counseling might be a good idea, or group support at least, or appt with a NUT. Come on here to vent. Go look at your before pictures, and now - pat yourself on the back - you did this! And you can revise and get back at it. Go did out your before jeans and try them on - do you want to go back to that? -
Thanks for your post! This really gives me something to look forward to! My revision is scheduled for April 8.

Denied for Conversion - Slipped Band
Fixerupper replied to Bkhuffman292's topic in Insurance & Financing
Hi. I'm sorry you are having such a frustrating experience. We tend to think of reflux problems as merely annoying but they are much more than that. I was throwing up multiple times a day for five years. I did go to my lap band doctor but when he couldn't or wouldn't do anything I just gave up. Finally, after five years of misery I decided to pursue a conversion with a different surgeon through a different program. They had me scoped. Turns out the constant reflux was irritating my stomach and esophageal lining to the point of causing esophagitis and gastritis. They tried completely un-filling my band and putting me on meds to heal the stomach lining and reduce acid. It didn't work. The reflux persisted. Docs told me I could develop a precancerous condition and also lose my gag reflex which could lead to pneumonia infections and even possibly death. They also sent me for barium swallows (I had had at least 4 before) this time they found a hiatal hernia that needed repair as well. Once we had this information my surgeon wrote it up as medically necessary and my insurance approved me almost immediately. I don't say any of this to scare you. Just to make the point that the process can be long and tedious (lots of appointments and tests). But, don't give up. I figured out that my lap band doctor was invested in me keeping that thing in. he just couldn't admit for some reason that it didn't work for me. When I found the right surgeon he wrote it up correctly and presented to insurance correctly. He is experienced with revisions and knew what to say. My band did not slip although the doc suspected it had and then just slipped back into place prior to the x-ray. But, can't a slipped band erode into the stomach. I just can't understand how they are saying it is not medically necessary. Hang in there and keep pushing! My conversion was actually based on "band intolerance" not a mechanical malfunction. -
Thanks once again for the lovely comments my fellow Lappies and Soon-to-be Lappers. Remarkable that my most popular entry was the one about my under used under carriage! A sign that this site is mainly frequented by ladies...? Maybe I need to revise my dating profile to include such things on Match as no one seems to pay any attention to that! Andi - no need for fear - it's a culture shock for sure, but you will find something else to do because when you hit the right fill, you simply won't be interested in eating. I imagine a wave of new hobbies started cropping up around the world when this procedure became popular. Maybe there has been a recent global resurgence of knitting and stamp collecting...?

Cigna OAP has denied me conversion from slipped lap band to sleeve because I haven't seen a bariatric doctor in 3 years. I moved away from my surgeon and just got insurance that has bariatric coverage. From Feb of this year to current I started gaining weight - in excess of 40lbs which lead me to believe something wasn't right. They won't even take out the band unless it is emergent surgery. I'm having problems, not life threatening, just uncomfortable, but I need help either getting a sleeve or revision for this band as my weight is climbing and the problems of reflux, gas, pulling in abdominal area, etc. are not easy to deal with regularly. The PA put me on a 100g Protein, 30g Carb diet and wants me to come back in 3 weeks. They are submitting one more time to see if the insurance MIGHT consider letting them fix this band. Thoughts - tired, frustrated and kinda PISSED off at this point.

Frustrated with surgeons office already
Pinkgirl1234 replied to seaniepoohbear's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There must be another dr.but I am going to tell you that you must be patient.I had to wait 6 weeks to see my surgeon because I was a first time patient transferring my records to him(revision from lapband to bypass). At this time it is beyond busy.I doubt surgeons are even seeing new patients because there are so many people seeking to have surgery before the end of the year.I have a pre op appointment...if I miss that then they are too busy and I will not have surgery.I am scheduled for ne date...There are so many people it's maddening. There must be another surgeon as names were given. No matter who you call now it is going to be crazy...in the meantime you should connect with your primary and all doctors you currently see and get them to write letters of recommendation for WLS.It will help with the insurance approval down the road. Also see your PCP and have him/her start to document your weight and diet attempts on a month to month basis because some insurances want a record of attempted weight loss.Get yourself ready....insurance approvals are not a piece of cake these days. I can imagine you won't see a doctor until January 2016.In the meantime be proactive. -
I am officially sleeved!
kimaly replied to Keshajo1's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Are you having a revision? I'm scheduled for revision on Sept. 7 with Dr. A. Looking forward to following your progress. -
I think that the band slip rate is much higher than the doctors tell you. I have connected with many bandsters via YouTube and FaceBook, and way too many of us have had lap band slips and needed revision surgery. I had a slip that required revision surgery, and I am pretty good at following the rules. However, I kept my band after the slip (and simply had it repositioned) because I love my lap band. The one thing that has helped tremendously is having a doctor that does fills under fluroscopy - that way you have a better chance of not being too tight (band filled too much), which can lead to a slip. My doctor got a fluro machine after my first slip, and I no longer get fills without fluro. Good luck!

1st Post- I have questions
stI24nger replied to falcon66's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just wanted to throw this out there--didn't seem to be covered at all in this thread so far. Regarding the liver thing and the "diet." Like Restless said, the diet isn't necessarily to lose weight before banding, but more to shrink your liver. The specifics of that diet are LOW CARB. That way, your liver does not have to produce as much glucose to process the simple or complex sugars. Because the liver is not producing those fluids, it shrinks. When it is smaller, it is easier for the doc to go in laproscopically, move around the liver, and work on the stomach. A knicked liver could be DISASTROUS, so they will opt to not do the surgery at all. So, whatever preop diet you're given, just follow it to the letter and you won't have to have 2 surgeries or revisions or anything else. Good luck! -
1st Post- I have questions
RestlessMonkey replied to falcon66's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I LOVE Dr. Cavazos. I think he's the bee's knees. You'll do well in his capable hands. Just follow his instructions (whatever they are!) for preop and post op! You may tell your coworkers that you are having abdominal surgery or hernia repair (if you wish) or you may just say...nothing. Each person is different about what they want to share. Some say "abdominal surgery" and keep it vague; they feel that can help explain any modified eating patterns. too. Don't know about the revisions; are you anticipating that the band won't work for you? You know it's placed to be permanent; people who have them removed, statistically, most often gain everything back. Or did you mean revision to a different type of bariatric surgery? Either way, the band works if you work it, for most of us. Good luck. Dr. C is wonderful and the staff at Northeast Baptist is excellent, top to bottom! -
So in 2006 I made the decision to get the lap band. I lost a total of 75 lbs... and over the years gained almost all of it back. On July 26, 2017 I am officially did the revision to the sleeve! Perfectly Imperfect

New here...scheduled for my revision on 9/1
msjenni posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Hello everyone! I am so glad I have found this place. I have been having so many questions about my revision and how other people have dealt with their band to sleeve. Just to give you a little bit of background. I was originally banded back in 2004, I had a slip of my band in late 2005. Got my slip fixed and my band replaced and then another slip in 2007. I have been living with a slipped band for the last 3 years due to my insurance refusing to cover any surgeries related to WLS. I finally switched insurance and have been hot on the trail to get my band taken out and get my sleeve. I am now scheduled to get my band removed on Sept. 1st and get sleeved at the same time. One of my main concerns is that when I met with the doctor originally he was stating that I would need to have my band removed if I wanted my band fixed due to inflammation and dilation of my esophagus. Why now would he be okay to remove the band and do a sleeve? Have any of you had this issue or ran into any of this? I'm already nervous about the surgery and I am starting my pre-op diet tomorrow. Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch! -Jen -
Gastric Bypass Revision
catwoman7 replied to Ljthatguy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
are you on purees now? If so, that could explain it. I'm have a "virgin" bypass, not a revision, but i didn't start feeling restriction until I moved on to solid food. Also, they likely cut some nerves when they were in there - it takes awhile for them to regenerate. -
So sorry, this has happened again! My port is slightly tilted and has been since surgery but I did not need to have it revised. I can only imagine how frustrating this must be for you. I hope your wrong and they can fix it will minimal surgery.
