    Salad?

It's a variable depending upon the doc's program and how one tolerates different things. I was playing around with small salads after 3-4 weeks, using chopped spinach instead of lettuce for its' little better nutritional profile, along with tomato, avo, bell pepper, green onion, etc. along with a couple ounces of meat for protein.
  2. I am seeing Dr next week to see if it is a stricture. I am hoping it resolves itself. Honestly, it is helping me with weight loss but I know whatever is happening ain't supposed to, so Dr. visit is warranted.

  4. Welcome to the Week 3 Stall. 90% of WLS patients experience it. Now it's your turn! Trust in the program. Continue to follow your plan, get your protein and water in, take your vitamins, advance through your food stages, and walk as much as possible. You will lose weight.

    Psych eval =done

I just did mine yesterday. It was awful. About 2 hours of interview, taking with the guy, him asking about my past (childhood, education, relationships, drugs/alcohol, hospitalizations, eating disorders, diets I've tried, family history, etc, etc) and then another 2 hours doing standardized tests: the MMPI (567 questions) and three other ones (one about values and satisfaction with life, one about eating habits, and one about depression) that had about 50-60 questions between the three. Basically, I lied and worked to keep my lies consistent. I truly don't think that drug use years ago affects whether I will be a good candidate for surgery at 40 years old. So I told him I had never used drugs, never had any problems with the police. I said I probably drank too much in college, but definitely downplayed the amount of drinking I've done in my life. I'll find out in 2 weeks if I was convincing! Sent from my Nexus 5X using the BariatricPal App
  6. I reached out to my bariatric care team, who was made aware of my visit to the ER last Tuesday and said the normal oral tablet medication would be fine. Here is my communication to them today, and their reply. Me: So, the response was lacking, since a number of my concerns (medication absorption, weight stall, not being able to hit my nutrient goals) were not addressed. I will assume positive intent and say they have probably dealt with dozens upon dozens of people with concerns/fears/complaints post-op that do not amount to anything, so perhaps I've been lumped in that category. We'll see what the doctor says today (he's a rheumatologist) although he may just refer me back to my PCP or the ER (in which case you all have permission to say "I told you so!") I'm going to ask for blood work too just to ensure I'm not septic, and to see where my WBC is.
  7. I've looked through some other past posts, mostly 3-5+ years ago, and Googled to my fingers were numb, so I'm going to post this here and see if anyone has thoughts/suggestions. I'm just about 6-weeks post op, great weight loss, and was cruising right along until last Tuesday 9/7/21. I ended up in the ER for what I thought was a blood clot in my right leg. After a sonar, they assured me I had no clot, but I did have moderate cellulitis. The doctor put me on generic Bactrim 800 2x/day, and Cefalexin 500 x4/day, for 7 days. I have had cellulitis once before pre-op, in the opposite leg, and was on a much smaller treatment of antibiotics (just the Bactrim), and within 3 days (out of the 7 day treatment) it was practically gone! So, when this past Friday rolls around and my right leg isn't better at all I start to freak out b/c it's been 4 days of double the amount of antibiotics I've had for the same issue in the past, and when I put my sock on it still cause me to "yelp" in pain, not to mention the entire shin/left calf in hot and swollen. I call my PCP and he graciously humors me and puts me on the Oral Liquid version of Bactrim, for 10 days b/c I think the tablets aren't being absorbed. So, I've now had 6 doses of the Bactrim Liquid antibiotic, and I'm on my last day of Cefalexin, but really only feel like the leg is maybe, 10-15% better than it was a week ago? I will say that I do not have a fever, so I don't think I'm septic or anything, but it's getting in the way of my exercise and weight loss during the peak period of time when I should be working towards losing as much as possible. Should it still be this bad? Has anyone else had this issue? Any suggestions or things I should talk to my PCP or bariatric surgeon about? Do you think it will just take longer and I should hold my horses and take a chill pill? 😅 Thanks for your time and thoughts everyone. -Josh
  8. I was hospitalized for three weeks for a bout of cellulitis and had to go through a long course of "nuke it from orbit, it's the only way to be sure" antibiotics. If it is hot and swollen, go to the ER.

    Me Two weeks post Op

    From the album: progress

  10. Almost every single WLS patient has a stall somewhere around the 3 week mark. It's known as the "Dreaded Week 3 Stall" and can last anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. Just focus on your program. Meet your protein and water goals. Take your vitamins. And move around as much as possible. Put the scale away for a while.
  11. If you eat too much, does it feel "stuck" or do you feel nauseated? Almost everything I eat for about a week now feels painful after a little bit, no matter what it is. Not sure if I'm not chewing well, eating too fast, or if my band is too tight? He put in 5 cc's for my first fill. I'm uncomfortable even after a couple of bites regardless of what it is. I hate not knowing if something is normal or I'm doing something to cause it, etc. etc.

    Whats happening

I'm just now 1 month post, so 4 weeks and 2 days... I've had that same plateau for about a week and a half, but this morning I weighed and dropped 2 more pounds! So hopefully I will continue to go down. Total I'm 24 pounds down, which includes pre-op. I was discouraged when I stayed the same for so long, but don't worry, it will go down.

    Whats happening

Happened to me too. At 4 weeks to 6 weeks post op gained 2 pounds and kept them for 2 weeks and then got my first full an lost 5 pounds. So normal to gain!

    Whats happening

Total normal. I am 2.5 years post op at restriction and do at least an hour cardio 7 days a week and am in a major stall.
  15. Actually, I think this is a good question for the nurse or doc. I know with cholesterol tests it definitely plays havoc. Why not have the "last supper" a week before surgery?
  16. I am anticipating insurance approval in the next week. How long after approval was your surgery scheduled? I have already started my two week liquid diet in anticipation so that should speed up the process. Just curious. Thanks. Christi

    Cottage Cheese Thighs

Hi all!! I'm 4 1/2 weeks post op. SW 322 Surgery day 311 CW 288. I'm just beginning working out more that a couple of small walks a day. Any suggestions for helping Cottage Cheese Thighs?? My stomach has some too, but I also carried Twins...I'm guessing only surgery will help that. Any exercise suggestions would be great. Thanks!!!

    sooo worried

Guys, remember that the "squeaky wheel" gets the attention. You notice the negative stuff. AND for every negative poster on this or any other forum, there are hundreds of people who never, ever post on any forum on any subject; they are happily living their lives and enjoying the results of their surgeries. Most common problems related to the band (PBing, getting stuck) are operator error. Remember to cut your food into bites about the size of a nickel, take a bite, put your fork down and chew it well, swallow and then pick up your fork and take another bite. While the SOUND of an aggressive fill is good, the REALITY is that a very aggressive fill can likely mean that you will end up too tight and need an unfill. Go with your doctor's plan, make your regular appointments for fills and you'll get to your sweet spot soon enough. There was one poster on this forum who had to have his band removed after just six weeks because he ended up being allergic to something in his band. How often does that happen? Even less than once in a very blue moon. And, I hate to say it, some people got their bands expecting that they were basically buying weight loss. That they wouldn't have to change anything, just merrily go on along the road they were heading down before surgery and the weight would just magically disappear. They are very disappointed in their decisions about getting banded. If you follow your doctor's instructions and accept that you will have to modify your bad behaviors, and regard your band as an awesome tool, you will more than likely do fine.
  19. Hello, I'm on day 4 of soft foods and just want to get some input, since some of you report very small stomach capacity. I know there is a bit of a learning curve here. For Breakfast the last couple days I have been having egg salad. 1 - 1/2 eggs (1 yoke) and 1 ts of light mayo. It makes about 3.5 ounces of egg salad. When I finish, I'm just starting to get the "Pressure" just under my ribcage that was described to me as full. for lunch and dinner I have been having about 2 ounces of lean hamburg meat, a little broccoli (maybe 4-5 small pieces) , and maybe a bite or two of re-fried Beans. There was one time where I had that constant pressure under my ribcage, it disapated after about 10-15 minutes when the food started moving. I just want to know from everybody whom as been through the mush stage what they think cause I really don't want to start any bad habits.. I am feeling hunger, but it's quickly gone as soon as I eat something. I am sticking to 3 small meals a day, no Snacks. When I drink fluids I can pretty much drink unrestricted.

My boyfriend and I just started dating he had gastric bypass surgery 3 months ago. I have a degree in culinary arts and am trying to develop new recipes/ideas for us. I too want to transition to his diet so we both live healthier lives. Any recipes, suggestions, or comments would be greatly appreciated.
  21. First, I am not a believer in BMI's....my only concern is Body Fat, and how much of my weight is comprised of it... And I had a lot of it..very high %, so much so it was clogging up my arteries, which resulted in some very serious cardiac conditions. So yes, I had WLS because I could not control my hunger, cravings and appetite..... Then, I went to the gym between 5-6am 5 days a week and worked out doing cardio, on an empty stomach...the thinking is to burn energy stored away as body fat opposed to what was recently eaten. All I can say, from first hand experience, it worked...my body fat% is as low as a healthy person would venture to go...in the "Athletic" range. So, in spite of what you may read, what has made you 100% successful??? Did you do it without exercising??
  22. I have 17 herniated discs, with a three level cervical spine repair last year. My spine was literally collapsing under my excess weight. Although I still have sciatica and need a full lumbar fusion, my orthopedist is expecting considerable relief from my weight loss. To an extent that has been true. For the last four years, I had been getting a spinal epidural every three months. Last October, I got a radio-frequency nerve ablation done, and the relief from that lasted until a couple of weeks ago. I have another one scheduled in July. During the time that I was experiencing relief, I did not need to take the Lyrica that I had been taking at 300 mg a day. As soon as I started back up, I gained almost eight pounds in one week. Also, I have noticed that when I take my Hydrocodone for pain relief, I get constipated and have to take stool softeners. Also, it makes me horribly sick to my stomach. So, right now while I am waiting for my July treatment, I am getting by on Lidocaine Patches. So, my biggest problem is the Lyrica. My bariatrician took me off my blood pressure meds, because she felt that a couple of them contributed to slow post-op weight loss. But my primary put me back on them. I had some good labs last week, so I am hoping at today's appointment that my primary will let me drop the BP meds. If I can drop that three-med cocktail, I will be down all nine pre-op meds and just need supplements.
  23. If you are already in pain the surgery will bring much more with it. Imho I would wait until a couple of weeks after your surgery date to do anything drastic.

    Am I going crazy?

I take Zoloft for clinical depression and anxiety. I took it for years before surgery and am still taking it. I also take birth control pills(yes even at 50) or I will have trouble with cysts. I have lost weight maybe slower than others but I am 50. if you do not mind what antidepressant are you on? Some can cause weight gain. I gained 40 lbs. on Paxil over a 4 month period. It takes at least a month up to 6 weeks for them to kick in and you really feel a difference. You might also consider this. if you are an emotional eater and food was your friend and now it is not there to comfort you . . . it can make you feel crazy, looking for something to make you feel like you do when you can eat for comfort. I do not know you so you may not be an emotional eater but if you are that might be your problem and if you are stressed and depressed it is a tough road to go down without food. If you think that is you go see a therapist and learn some coping skills. That is what I have to rely on. Cheri

    Am I going crazy?

ive only lost 10lbs since surgery(about 3 weeks ago). so that upsets me. im on meds also. depakote and pristiq. im bi-polar so i DEFINITELY know what you mean about roller coaster and it affecting your life. i dont have much advice for the weight loss cause im still trying to figure my own out. but with the moods. try and keep a mood diary with you, like what days you felt what. i had to do that for awhile. its annoying but it helped. take it to your doctor and see what they say. also i cant take birth control because it makes me go insane (more then i already am) haha. sorry im not too good with advice. good luck though! im here if you need to vent.
