Wednesday I will be 10 weeks out and I felt like I could eat a house today. I had a yogurt, my protein drink, chili, baked lays Cheetos, do I need to go on... YES... Please don't yell at me, Reese's peanut butter cups, a sip of sprite, 4 oz chicken breast and some salad and water. Did my stomach grow back or something. I don't understand. This is by far the WORST day ever for me. Wtf did I do to myself.

I like 8 oz. of Greek yogurt with 5g of sugar-free lemon or pistachio pudding mixed in. I eat that every day for breakfast! If you have a costco near you their Greek yogurt has 10g of carbs and 24g of Protein per serving.

I was banded on May 13th and am doing great. I almost feel like I didn't have surgery. My only issue is that I am 4 days into my full liquid diet and I am starving. I am having 4 protein drinks a day, yogurt, jello, and cream soup. I don't know if I can make the full 10 days. Any suggestions?

Pre Op Low Carb Diet- All Hail Cauliflower!
Fallenangel2904 replied to Fallenangel2904's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Sorry for the late reply- had a sleep study last night and lets just say not much sleep was had lol Slim here are recipies for some of the things I mentioned. I'm a measure by eye girl on most of the things i cook but I'll try to give an estimate. Remember all these things can be adapted, things can be added, substituted and portions can be changed. This is just a guesstimate Califlower rice 1 head of cauliflower Cut into chunks and pulse in the food processor until it has the look and feel of rice. Put in a bowl and microwave for 3-5 minutes (depending on microwave) And voila! chicken coconut curry over 'rice' Boneless skinless chicken breast 1 bell pepper 1 medium onion 1 zuccini Scallion 1 tsp curry powder 1tsp light brown sugar 1tsp cumin 1 can light coconut milk Cut the chicken into bite size pieces. Brown in a pan. Take them out and set aside and saute the onion, scallion and bell pepper (I diced them up into small pieces) when they are slightly translucent add in diced up zuccini. Cook until slightly tender, then add in the cumin and curry powder. Cook for a few minutes until the spices are fragrent then add in the coconut milk. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes or until the milk cooks down enough so it's not so soupy. Add in the tea spoon of brown sugar (optional, it adds a little sweatness to counter the spice of the curry and in a big pot its not much.) Add the browned chicken back in and serve over califlower rice. This was awesome! Fried 'rice' 1 cup of riced cauliflower 2 tsp of low sodium soy sauce 1 egg scallion I sprayed a skillet with a little PAM and added one scrambled egg. Chop it up in the skillet as I went, then added my 'rice'. Let cook for a minute, added soy sauce and let it 'fry'. Added in some chopped scallion before serving. Moc Mashed potato bake 2 cups for riced cauliflower 2 cloved of garlic a few tbs of FF sour cream (you could use greek yogurt I bet for more protein) chopped fresh parsley 1/2 cup for FF shredded mozerella cheese Put cauliflower, garlic, souce cream and parsley in a food processor and pulse until creamy. I mixed with most of the shredded cheese after I was done and put it in a baking dish and sprinkled a bit of the cheese that was left on top. Baked 350 for 10-15 minutes. Bean shrimp and garlic over zuccini 'pasta' 1 can of white Beans 8 shrimp (mine were jumbo) 2 cloves of garlic 2 zuccini Parsley Splash of chicken stock Cook the shrimp till translucent and then take out of pan. Sauteed the beans in a tsp of EVOO, added the garlic and parsley. Let the beans cook down until soft, added the chicken stock so it wasn't so dry. Add the shrimp back in and shut off. Slice the zuccini with a veg pealer, or mandolin (It takes some practice. Google 'zuccini noodles/pasta' and it should help.) Once sliced microwave for a few minutes until 'al dente' Serve the shrimp and bean mixture over the 'pasta' and done! The pizza crust recipie you can find all over online- google low carb pizza crust. It was just riced cauliflower, shredded cheese and Italian seasonings. I made one with a chicken, mushrooms and onions on top and the other I did something different and put slicked fresh mission figs and goat cheese with a drizzle of balsamic vinagar. Also really nice with some arugula on top! -

Pre-Op Diet Suggestions
o2bthin replied to GeorgiaGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used the EAS from Costco mixed with water and it was fine. Also mixed it into smoothies. Yogurt based smoothies are good too. I make my own. Soups are a good alternative. Some have around 50 calories in a cup. Then you can mix some protein in there. I have miso a couple of times on my preop. The sodium count is high though, so it may make you retain water. -
Protein Powder And Yogurt?
Vicki Loichinger replied to eeyoregirl1970's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I am pre op and I have been eating a lot of yogurt and adding one scoop of unflavored protein powder to it. I have had a bad tooth for the past several weeks and got it pulled last week. So I feel like I have had kinda a trial run eating the yogurt and getting the protein in. One of my favorites has been the Dannon greek 2xprotein vanilla yogurt with a scoop of unflavored protein and about a tablespoon of sugar free pudding mix, pistachio yum, but I bet that won't be good to soon after surgery, but banana pudding has been good. It is like eating some fancy desert to me. NOW all this may change after surgery. But this could be a good option for those that can't stand to drink the shakes. -
I took one week vacation time and went back on post op day 10 also. No complications. I was on full liquids the first few days so I just had plain lowfat yogurt for lunch, then threw half of it away because I couldn't eat a full container yet!

They gave me the ok for veggies/fruit but if they have a tough skin to skip. So I am told no apple peels but just to add a new food every day and see how I tolerate it. So far nothing has bothered me but I am not even to try things like nuts, popcorn or stuff like that. Mostly because I am trying to make low carb choices. Nuts like almonds are a love if mine. i know they are low carb but I don't want to eat too many so I just stay away from them. Before surgery I did low carb for years just to maintain my weight. When I didn't the scale kept rising. So the healthy food/low carb thing us a breeze to me. I have been doing it forever. I can actually eat more kinds of food after surgery. It was kind of exciting to eat whole wheat bread again and yogurt.

is something wrong with me?
MegaBob replied to Simpley_ke's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on the day for me. Some days I can eat little and don't care what it is. I fill up quickly. Other days I do feel some hunger. I started to pay attention on these days and have found that if I have not had any solid food I am more likely to be hungry. For instance, on day where I have cottage cheese for Breakfast and a greek yogurt for mid-morning snack, I will feel some hunger. If, on the other hand, I have a Protein bar for breakfast and deli meat or string cheese for a snack I won't be hungry and fill up quickly. It also depends on my activity level. If I do cardio and lift a little I will have some hunger because the metabolism is kicking in. Another thing I noticed is if I eat more than normal, ie have some snack at night, the next day I will be more likely to be hungry. I think it is my body going out of starvation mode because of the additional calories. -
Puree/soft Food Suggestions.....
Felicia replied to mchez1986's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm really liking yogurt right now. I eat the yoplait light and the carbmasters from kroger. The carbmasters have 8g of protein which is really awesome since I don't like greek yogurt. I also made some broccolli and cheese soup, it was super yummy but I could only eat 3 bites lol. -
My First Week On The Road At 4 Weeks Post Gastric Sleeve Op.....an Eye Opener.
Rev Me Up! replied to Queen of Crop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Holy Moly, I can't imagine an aggressive Europe schedule that soon after surgery, but it looks like you are making the best of it!! I was dead-exhasted for 8 weeks after surgery - no way I would have been a good travel companion. The best thing in Europe are the breakfasts, no? All the cheese, meat, and yogurt a new sleever could ask for!! I did a work trip to the UK at about 3 months post op and I would raid the Breakfast offerings and stuff them in my purse for later. I took a yogurt for breakfast, a spare yogurt for later, and a packet of hot Cereal that I would make with hot milk in the office. Peel the meat off a sandwich, toppings off of a pizza, or order a tapas plate and I was good to go. String cheese was another purse-staple. BTW - oatmeal, hot meusli, or whatever you can find may help your constipation issues. I religiously ate at least one meal of whole grain hot cereal a day in the first few months. Bon chance! -
You really don't have to puree your food for the mushy stage, as there are a lot of foods that are pretty darn close to that already. The only thing that I'd watch out for with a lot of the recommendations here is that foods like oatmeal, mashed potatoes, creamy Soups, etc. are not going to help you lose during this period. If you're not shooting to lose weight until after you're back on full solids, then disregard. I ate a lot of bean soups, made low-fat and without cream. Fat-free refried Beans, split pea or red beans made with a touch of liquid smoke and a well-cleaned ham bone for flavor. Chana masala, daal. Etc. If the beans didn't cook down on their own like the split peas or lentils, then I would toss the Soup in the blender. All high in Protein and Fiber. Fat-free ricotta cheese, seasoned with italian seasoning, topped with marinara sauce and baked. Like others said, cottage cheese and greek yogurts were favorites too, also high in protein and no blending required. I also stuck with at least 1 shake per day in that period too to make sure I kept up my protein intake. It went by before I knew it and neither pureeds or mushies was that big of a deal. I still use the recipes on days when my band feels tight, any day after a bad stuck episode, or for the day after I get a fill!

I say up your Protein. your Snacks should be high in protein if possible. I try to eat greek yogurt or Protein Bars for extra protein if I didn't meet my goal for the day. I also use Myfitness pal to track my calories. If all else fails have a long talk with your surgeon and explain that you don't feel comfortable with the difference in advise given. I am a fighter when it comes to my health and my husband's as well. If you don't like what they are doing for you, contact another Dr. I've done that before and have had good results.

IRRITATION FROM BEING STUCK QUESTION
bluegudren replied to Susan58's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me about 6 months to learn what foods I cannot eat. Scrambled eggs where ok in the first months, then after I had my 5th fill and hit the green zone, they get stuck. So they are marked off my list now. Yogurt is a good breakfast for me now. Fried and baked fish goes down fairly easily. Hamburger is a big no. Steak has to be filet mignon. Nothing else. Once something gets stuck, you know you have to be very careful with that food choice again. And I have to chew everything until it is the consistency of soup in my mouth, or else! -

Long term post-op hydration difficulties
angelstwo replied to angelstwo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for your responses. Mistie - Before surgery I also drank a lot with my meals. I could drink well over 20 oz with each meal. It was quite an adjustment getting away from drinking with my meals. Are you saying you are only getting in 17 oz fluids total or 17 oz of Water? You really need to watch out for dehydration. Unfortunately dehydration actually makes it harder to drink which I found out the hard way. If you are only getting in a total of 17 oz daily from water, Protein shakes, broths, Soups, yogurt, Jello and/or pudding please contact your surgeon as you may need IV hydration. -
7 weeks out and can barely eat anything!
JennyBeth posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 7 weeks out (on Wednesday) and I still have so much restriction that I can barely eat anything! I am cleared for regular food at this point, but I still stick with soft foods because many foods don't always agree with me. I'm lactose intolerant (which has gotten worse since surgery) so I can't do milk, yogurt or ice cream and had a very difficult time finding a protein drink in the beginning that didn't make me sick. I had no idea whey protein is milk protein. Isopure was the only thing I could somewhat tolerate and now it makes me gag. Even drinking can be difficult. Last night I took one too many sips of my Gatorade G2 and threw it all up. I'm drained all the time because my calories are too low. I work full-time and eating makes me nervous now because I never know if it will make me sick. My surgeon said this is normal for the first few months. I had hoped it would get easier at this point, but I feel stuck where I'm at. -
Confused About Proper Restriction Level
pink dahlia replied to indyhandmade's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i try to listen to my bodys wants and needs, as what works for one may not work for another. I 'm in the green zone, but finding my band tighter in the am ,so i able to eat less in the morning and more in the late afternoon and evening. if i want a snack 3 hrs after a lite lunch , i have one because my body is telling me to eat something, so i eat some healthy like yogurt, almonds or, today a morning glory muffin. (a bran muffin with chopped apple, banana, and sunflower seeds. ) try to be a little understanding of what your band is telling you, it may be a different than what someone else's band is telling them. -
Soft Food Recommendations/Recipes?
Stephen2 replied to mgigi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was in 2017. I have settled into a few core go-to nutritional solutions. I always have Premier Protein shakes on hand in chocolate (30g Protein, 1g sugar) or Apple + Oat (20g Protein, 1g sugar). Reasonable pricing by the case at Costco. Having a dependable, easy to count and carry protein source allows me to relax on what else I'm eating during the day. You're not back to veg and fruit yet (especially salads!), but that'll come. In the soft food category, two favorites for me are Siggi's yogurt (12g Protein, 5g sugar), or cottage cheese with (home made) no-sugar applesauce or (home made) low-sugar jam. I've moved away from the yogurt and more toward the cottage cheese, since I can take more control of the flavorings and because cottage cheese is more protein-dense than yogurt. The biggest challenge for me in the liquid and soft food stages was getting something savory into the mix. Bone broth and organic chicken stock worked well for me, sometimes with an egg mixed in. Other soft foods I rotate are egg salad and a mix of tuna and chicken. I use two cans of tuna with one can of chicken (both packed in water, both purchased at a reasonable price at Costco). I add a bunch of horseradish mustard and some mayo. You can reduce the amount of mayo by adding back some of the water that the cans are packed with. Also, an immersion blender makes the tuna/chicken salad more like a restaurant and less like a parent with a fork. Good luck on the path, MGigi and everyone else! -
Soft Food Recommendations/Recipes?
catwoman7 replied to mgigi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember things like eating tuna, egg salad (although warning - a lot of people can't tolerate eggs early out) - can't remember what else, but I also continued to eat some of stuff I ate during pureed stage, iike hummus, refried beans, and Greek yogurt. Ricotta bake is good, too - there should be a lot of recipes out there for it. check out the blog "World According to Eggface". She has recipes on there for all the stages -
Help---- how do I even start quitting things ....
scarletwitch19 replied to urukugal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would try substituting healthier options for your current ones. Try drinking Water instead of diet coke. Or crystal light. Maybe try herbal tea instead of coffee. I found that it wasn't the caffeine I needed in the morning, I just liked a hot drink. It's not easy, and I agree with everyone else, you can't change them all at once. But boosting your water intake and going to the gym regularly are so important post surgery and getting in the habit now will make it a much easier transition. As for sugars, now could be a good time to start checking out healthier sweet tooth foods. sugar free Popsicles are a favorite of mine, and sugar free pudding. I also found healthy choice makes 100 calorie frozen greek yogurts (little bit higher in sugar and carbs than my normal foods, but everyone needs a treat once in awhile!). Most important thing I found pre-surgery is record everything!!! Journal what time you eat and how much. Record how much water you're drinking, and how much you exercise. It can be really helpful to look back and reflect on what you did good and what you can improve on. Good luck!!! You can do this -
I am scheduled for surgery on Thursday, I am just wondering for those of you who have had surgery what kind of yogurt did you get? I am able to have some on the 3rd day I was going to get stuff on Wednesday just to be prepared.

Dannon fit and light greek has flavored yogurts that are smooth without chunks like key lime or banana cream. There are other brands of flavored yogurts as well. At the beginning you just want to stay away from anything with "bits" in it. You can of course add flavorings like Tirani syrup and sweeteners to plain yogurts if you prefer.
