    Eating on the go

I mixed flavored protein powder with plain Greek yogurt. It's pretty filling, but lots of protein. I also used Fairlife skim milk to make my protein shakes. It has 13g protein in a cup (vs. 8g for regular skim milk.) Good luck!
  2. @@r6malbear mostly I said swap out cottage cheese for yogurt because at least to me, if you are going to swap out fruit for meat, then meat goes better with cottage cheese than it does with yogurt. However, typically cottage cheese is lower calorie and lower carb than yogurt is, for a pretty similar Protein count. shake recipes: Hot chocolate: 4 oz. Water + 4 oz. CarbMaster* milk. Heat in microwave until just under boiling, transfer to blender and blend with hot chocolate Protein powder http://www.nashuanutrition.com/store/hot-drinks/healthsmart-hot-chocolate-7-box-sucralose.html and any Torani SF syrup(s) you want. You can also put a dollop of fat free whipped cream on top for a minimal hit to your daily calorie budget. My favorite ways to make this are a gingerbread mocha (add in gingerbread SF syrup and a couple teaspoons of instant coffee), and a peppermint hot chocolate -- add in peppermint SF syrup. Chocolate peanut butter: 8 oz. CarbMaster* milk blended with 1/2 scoop Syntrax nectar Chocolate Truffle protein powder, 1 shot Torani SF chocolate syrup (or a dropper full of Sweet Leaf Sweet Drops chocolate: http://www.amazon.com/Sweet-Drops-Liquid-Stevia-Chocolate/dp/B00H4HKNA4, and 1.5 T PB2 chocolate http://www.amazon.com/PB2-Powdered-Peanut-Butter-Chocolate/dp/B0043WOANY *CarbMaster milk is available at Kroger supermarkets. If you don't have Kroger near you, I believe Fair Life milk is much more widely available and has a very similar nutritional profile: higher protein, lower calorie, and lower carb than regular nonfat milk. I love marlin jerky! It is just delicious to me and absolutely packed with protein. However, I only recommend it to people who like strong flavored fish like swordfish and mackerel. If you prefer more bland white fish like tilapia or sole, marlin Jerky may not be for you! http://www.amazon.com/Hawaiian-Marlin-Jerky-Onion-Pepper/dp/B00B8XOUX6/
  3. Wow what great advice!!! Thanks @ DJmohr, I have really needed advice in the eating department. It seems they really didn't tell me enough about the food thing. I guess I was told about the 800 calories because I asked calorie wise how much I should be eating and they said around 800 and it stuck in my mind. Recently I had a stall and they said to make sure I was getting between 60 - 80 grams of Protein a day and lots of Water. I wish they would have focused on the protein and knocked it into my head so it would stick. They also said if I had to much protein I might stall also. Thanks @ Bufflehead for the menu idea's. Why do you say switch the yogurt for cottage cheese? And can you give me your recipe for the Protein drinks you listed? Also what is marlin jerky? Thanks for everyone's advice!!!
  4. @@AfitRN2015 I appreciate the tips! I'm doing great today. No more nausea. I'm able to get fluids in easily. I drank an isopure protein drink with no issues. Tomorrow I get to try yogurt.

    Four days post surgery

Today was the first day of a more solid food - cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, Greek yogurt, cream of wheat and applesauce. It was fantastic to feel something in my mouth at breakfast other than a liquid. I've lost 14 lbs to date and I'm 10 days post op

    Favorite unflavored protein?

Correct. I usually put mine in my coffee or tea, or yogurt/cottage cheese. You can also add it to hot food and liquid but it needs to be no hotter than 140F degrees. You can see it, but in my opinion, you can't taste it. I tried other "unflavored" Proteins and it gave my drinks a vitamin/medicine after taste that I couldn't stand.
  7. --switch out the yogurt and fruit for cottage cheese and meat for Breakfast --switch out the Protein bar for 3 oz grilled or baked chicken breast Here is a sample menu from when I was under 800 calories and regularly getting over 75 grams of protein per day: Breakfast: 2 oz chicken wrapped in romaine lettuce leaf (85 calories/12 grams protein) Lunch: 2 oz sliced roast beef, 1/2 oz. roasted edamame (137 calories/19 grams protein) Dinner: refried Beans with an egg baked on top, melted cheese (150 calories/12 grams protein) Snacks: hot chocolate Protein shake (110 calories/ 21 grams protein) chocolate PB2 protein shake (140 calories/26 grams protein) marlin Jerky (80 calories/18 grams protein) totals including various Vitamins etc.: 768 calories, 107 grams protein

    Post-op Meal Phases

It really does vary a lot. My plan was: four weeks full liquids -- protein shakes, milk, strained or cream soups, G2, Powerade Zero, SF popsicles, SF jello four weeks purees -- poached or scrambled eggs, various forms of dairy (yogurt, cottage cheese, melted cheese), pureed meats or beans, nut butters, soft tofu, refried beans -- ONLY high protein foods, no fruits, vegetables, or grains four months of soft foods -- food soft enough to cut easily with a fork. No grains, starchy veggies, or sweets permitted. As you can see from the variety of responses here, you'll need to get detailed information, including lists of permitted and forbidden foods, from your dietician directly. It's really pretty irrelevant what other surgical practices do -- you should only care about your own.

    Shelly's ricotta bake- OMG

I ate that every day for a week! I also loved the black bean puree with greek yogurt on top! Yum!!
  10. I am at 5 months out and I notice that I do not stay under the recommended 800 calories per day put keeping my Protein between 60 -80 grams. What do others eat throughout the day to stay where you need to be. I usually eat yogurt and a fruit for breakfast, tuna fish and salad for lunch, a snack in the afternoon of a Protein Bar and dinner is meat (fish, chicken, pork) and a veggie and a protein snack at night. I have been stalled for about 4 -5 weeks now and need help. And yes I do exercise 5 days a week walking for about 40 minutes at a fast pace.

    Post-op Meal Phases

My post-op diet was: Week 1 clear liquids- sugar free (broth, Jello, popsicles, Fruit drinks, sherbert, Water, decaf coffee and tea, skim milk, Protein shakes) Week 2 full liquids- (all the same as above but can add low fat or fat free yogurt and cottage cheese) Weeks 3 & 4 pureed foods- ( food pureed with liquid to applesauce consistency, can add spices) Weeks 5 & 6 soft foods - (soft cooked moist meats and veggies, soft fruit, ground lean meat) After week 6 I can have pretty much anything I can tolerate with the exception of alcohol and salad. I have to wait until 6 months post op to add those things. From what I have learned on here, doctors vary greatly on their post op diets so ask any and all questions so you fully understand yours. I emailed my poor NUT several times a week in the beginning but she was great!

    Post-op Meal Phases

Every doctor has a different plan so it's hard to break it down like that. My doctor progresses on the more rapid size. I had one week of liquids only (full liquids not just clear) then a week of puréed (thicker soups without chinks, cottage cheese, yogurt, ricotta, retried beans all worked fine too) then a week of soft which was anything I could cut/mash with a fork (soft fish, deli meats, cooked vegetables, eric) then I was cleared to introduce anything and continue as tolerated.

    My Journey

Which surgery did you have. I'm kind of at a similar place-- I'm 8 weeks out RNY, and am bored with eating/have no appetite. Outside of eggs for Breakfast i'll eat turkey sausage, oatmeal or cold Cereal. I don't do the cereals often, but do have then occasionally in small amounts just to offer variety. I don't like yogurt so breakfast get boring fast for me. lunch I'll eat tuna fish over spinach, with a baby bell cheese; or sometimes I buy a grilled chicken/pepper/avocado wrap and just eat the insides of the wrap. Lunch meat/cheese & tomato.Or a turkey burger w/cheese (no bun) and sliced peppers and tomato on the side. dinner I'll have whatever Protein I'm cooking for the family, pork chop, chicken, etc. I just usually leave out the starch (rice etc) from my plate. I'll also eat spaghetti [meat] sauce, w/ no Pasta, but add ricotta to it. Tonight I'm baking chicken fingers for dinner. I don't snack much, but unsweetened apple sauce or canned peaches are my go to's. Hope that gives you some ideas.

    Grazing

I actuall graze quiet a bit during the day. Some days are just all grazing. But it's never on junk. I will have sliced turkey and cheese to nibble on, hummus and crackers, hard boiled eggs, Peanut Butter on banana slices, beef Jerky, high Protein Cereal & milk, string cheese, greek yogurt w/ granola (that's more like a meal), a leftover meatball or two, ect.... When my kids are here at home I cook and we eat meals. When theyre at their dad's I usually just graze on whatever leftovers are in the refrigerator. I still try to track my grazing but as long as it's protein first and pretty healthy food, I don't worry too much about it.
  16. I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op and started feeling nausea and vomiting about 4-5 days ago. Has been constant if I try to eat anything (yogurt, Water, tea, etc) Not from over-eating since it usually occurs after one or two small sips or bites.
  17. I was sleeved April 20 and am doing great. I still eat a lot of cottage cheese, yogurt, fish, turkey, cheese, and refried Beans.

Any May 26th Sleevers out there?

My NUT told me my goals are 1000-1100 calories daily. Carbs at 550 calories = 137.5 g Protein 330 calories = 82.5 g Fat 220 calories = 24g Water 64oz daily I hit my protein goals pretty consistently and part of that is adding a scoop of chocolate flavored protein to either Dannon Fit & Light Greek yogurt 80 calories or Yoplait 100 calorie Greek yogurt. Both are in vanilla no fruit added. Gives me a whopping 35-38g protein in one sitting! Now I'm on soft foods the remaining protein comes from seafood or chicken as well as legumes. Water is harder because of the 30/30 rule which in my case is more like 30/90 because I don't seem to digest very well and 30 minutes after a meal is guaranteed to make it come back up. I can only safely get in 1/8-1/4 cup of meat in each meal (I measure each meal with real meat in it because more comes back up ????). Funny, the yogurt never comes back up so that has become my go to staple when I have rough days! Hope this helps. Michelle
  19. Change it up a bit. Buy different flavor yogurts ( I love Dannon light and fit Greek yogurt) and soups

    What does full feel like?

I've researched the digestive process and understand now why my hunger isn't there. I'm 9 weeks out and have had to set 5 timers on my phone to remind me to eat or snack. There is a hormone called Grehlin in your stomach that secretes more as you get hungry. Once you eat it stops secreting. In a sleeve you have 80% of your stomach removed. It totally throws off the production of Grehlin. Not only is your stomach healing from the surgery (which drinking your Protein to 60-70 gms a day is important. Not just for healing but also for stabalizing your whole system.) I've read that there is a risk at 6-9 months out that you could start losing your hair (it does grow back) I also read that if you take a lot of protein in from the beginning that your hair won't be affected. I'm hoping that's the case. I'm up to eating about 700-800 calories a day. I read labels and shoot for food low in carbs and sugar. My only vice is yogurt (which I never used to like). It has good protein and even with the "light" yogurt there are still 11 gms of sugar. I've discovered my "ate too much" button a couple of times and it wasn't pretty. It does change as you heal. I started out being able to drink 1 oz. and now i'm up to 4oz of solid food. If you are eating/drinking like they say to then your body should signal you before you get too full. The expression "your eyes are bigger than your stomach" is very true in this surgery lol.

    Shelly's ricotta bake- OMG

Omg I actually feel normal again. I feel like im eating normal food. If you like Italian food, you need to make this. After eating yogurt, refried beans and cottage cheese for the past week and a half I finally feel like I'm eating a real dinner! :-D

Got all my protein in today

I do watch my calories and I keep a journal. I typically find just a few things that I like and eat them over and over. I read all the labels when I buy something. At 9 weeks out i'm probably getting around 800 calories a day. My day usually looks like this: morning I have premier Protein with my meds (160 cal). at snack time I have a light yogurt (90 cal) at lunch I'll eat my lettuce wraps or something similar (2 leaves at mix 160 cal) snack is another yogurt or blueberries as light cool whip (90 cal) and then for dinner maybe 3tbl of refried Beans with cheese and 4-5 scoop chips (maybe 100 cal) then at night I have another Protein Drink with meds. (160 cal) (approx 760/day) sometimes I might snack on things like edamame or wasabi peas but I usually stick to the same diet. Only change is if I go over to my mother's....then i'll eat something different but it's usually only a few bites. She made cabbage rolls the other night and my eyes were bigger than my stomach lol I took 2 small ones and could still only eat 1. It's been an interesting journey so far. take care
  24. I ate yogurt, cream of wheat, got homemade Soups from the grocery store, applesauce, drank 2 Protein drinks a day (Premier Protein 30gms) SF pudding, at that phase I wasn't really hungry. A little bit goes a long way. I spoiled myself with mashed potato and gravy from KFC. I couldn't deal with mashing things that have texture. I looked at baby food but it is so high in calories, carbs, sugars it's not worth it. Best of luck on your journey!
