  1. Thanks for the details! I want so badly to be in "onederland". I only lost about 50% of my extra weight in 2009 from my band and gained that and more back.....currently 277.....I am stressing about cutting my stomach "off" and not being able to lose quickly.....well, it will be better than now, I know, but Im nervous! Dec 16th is coming up fast! Sent from my SM-J700P using the BariatricPal App
  2. 1) No, I kept the majority of the weight I lost off. I think I gained about a fourth of what I lost in total. The first 3 or 4 days after the unfill, I gained 17 lbs of just Water alone. Bleh. My average calories was similar to what it's been it's for 7 years (~1200 to 1500 calories). I was told this was normal due to being malnourished and dehydrated by having a too tight band for too long. 2) I had the band removal to sleeve in one step surgery. I was still in onederland when they suggested that I get a revision. They unfilled me that day. I remained unfilled for several months to let my esophagus and stomach rest before the surgery, which was done as an outpatient. (Easy recovery, btw) 3) Not much lost during 3 weeks pre-op, for the same reason I gained some of my weight back. My body was still adjusting and hung onto everything. Even on 800 cal pre-op, my body wouldn't budge! grrrr 4) 11 weeks post op revision: 36 lbs. lost
  3. 1) I gained all my weight back plus 15. My band worked initially but I could never get a fill I could live with. Even the slightest fill caused food to get stuck. I gave up on fills within the first year. Even unfilled I struggled to eat right. Protein first meant I was throwing up. I learned to eat around the band rather than go back to surgeon and deal with it immediately. 2) I waited 10 yrs from band to revision 3) I started pre op for sleeve 3 months before surgery by choice. I was mentally ready even if I had to jump through all the hoops first. I lost 35 lbs. 4) I've lost 46 lbs. I am 2 weeks post op Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  4. I want to know the truth about this. As a teacher my health insurance is awesome. However when I retire I will have to deal with getting insurance. Yes, it's probably about ten years away but I think it's a concern. First I read a post here about it (someone denied) and I have googled the subject and found info. from some years ago about how difficult it is to be insured after the surgery. Assuming you're at goal weight and an insurance company funded the surgery wouldn't it stand to reason that they would see you as healthier?? Does anyone here work for an insurance company or know the deal about it?
  5. Hi, I'm new to the forum and am a little desperate. If anyone can help I would appreciate it so much. I had my surgery last July. It's been almost 8 months and I've only lost 45 lbs. I haven't lost hardly anything in about three months. Even with increased Protein. I was told that I would probably only lose weight for 1 year...that means I only have have about 4 months to lose A LOT more. YIKES!!!!! I've had five fills. The last one was a month ago and I've been a little miserable since. I think it may be a little too full. I've been hoping that it would loosen up some by itself because I'm self pay and it will cost me 150.00 to have some taken out. I can eat just fine but liquids are a problem. It feels as if whatever I drink stays in my throat. It tries to come back out hours later when I lay down, which causes me to choke and cough sometimes. My throat burns - gerd, I guess. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!!!!! T

    WOW!! I did it!!

Congrats! I can't wait until I reach that weight either! I'm so happy for you!:biggrin:
  7. So - I am scheduled for banding on 3/11/11. I am reading all the information I can get my hands on and think your reply is very interesting. Since you can feel the port heat up because of your weight loss, does the same go for if you were to have a day in the sauna/day at the hot springs?? Thanks!
  8. Cool, thanks! And I am not doing any strenuous activity yet by any means, so there's not really a way for me to tear anything just by doing simple moves right? I guess if I knew the pain wasn't anything bad happening I could totally relax bout it and it probably wouldn't hurt AS bad. Anyway, thanks for the heating pad on the back tip. Better than not using it at all! quote name='stateofzen' timestamp='1299592338' post='1583232'] This is completely normal. It will go away, though I had port pain longer than any other kind (not constant though-- like you said, when I moved a certain way or when I tried to lay on my stomach). If you put the heating pad on your back you should still get some help in the stomach area-- at least I always did/do. One thing about heating pads-- recently I've found that I can't put one on my stomach over my port because I've lost enough weight that it heats my port up (the metal parts) and youch! Putting it at my back still works great though.
  9. Weight-Loss, I will Go Through It!! Not To It!!! I Hope You Understand That!!! (Today, I Did Not Eat Cake At The Office Baby Shower!!!) Go Me!!! Strength and Power Comes In Numbers!! Not Members!!!
  10. <p>I have to eat 1000 calories a day to keep my weight lose steady. Some days it's pretty hard. I eat mostly dairy, eggs and tuna. I don't buy low fat cheese because if I cut all the fat out I can't reach my calorie goal. I add a little reduced fat mayo made with olive oil to my tuna to add calories. I cook my eggs in olive oil to add calories and good fat. When you're able to eat nuts, an oz. of nuts will give you calories plus protein and good fats. You can also add peanut butter to your protein shakes. Good luck
  11. Hi all - I've been banded since 2009 and I lost close to 100lb, gained back almost 30. I've stopped exercising, I can eat anything, haven't seen a Doc in 3+ years because I moved away from my surgeon. I need to establish a new doc, cash patient I presume, with new insurance and all, I also need to find a support group and get back on track before I "hurt" myself with a slip or other issue. I CAN EAT ANYTHING...I choose bad things - cookies, ice cream, candy, etc. I COULD drink a protein shake, eat a healthy salad for lunch and another shake for dinner and feel full and satisfied, but I don't - I eat, eat, eat - out of boredom, stupidity and I've gotten very lazy - I don't exercise anymore. Zero support from home and just moved to new area so I haven't made friends yet. I'm searching out Dr. in my area - Daytona Beach, FL area and going to get myself on track - please feel free to offer advise and motivation - I love to hear from people that are doing well, or that have experienced the same. I feel "fat" again and I'm really beginning to dislike myself again. The "rolls" are re-appearing. I was a gym-junkie for a couple of years so I know that girl is inside somewhere, but she's hiding under a blanket eating a strip of frozen thin mints. HELP!
  12. Hi everyone - I was banded on 8/22 and go back to see my MD tomorrow after 2 weeks of liquid/puree food. Can't wait to see what the dietician allows me to have and how the MD thinks I'm doing. I know I've lost weight because my belt is tighter I won't get my first fill until October 1st. Still working on drinking all 64 oz. every day. It is a conscious decision to drink, not something I "just do" and that's really hard for me. Also really really want to CHEW something I'll keep you posted.
  13. My apnea seems to have resolved (I still need a sleep study to confirm, but I'm not snoring and my symptoms have subsided), my blood pressure is normal without medication, and my auto-immune arthritis is slightly better with my inflammatory factors slightly down. My rheumatologist suggested the VSG because the stomach tissue that is removed is responsible for large amounts of inflammatory hormones, as are the fat stores that are lost as we lose weight. You'll probably already know this, but high Protein diets are the norm post WLS with people pushing VERY high protein goals at you. With pre-existing kidney damage, you're going to be a special case, and will need to work with your medical team to determine what the right protein goal for you is, and don't listen to anyone other than your team. But my health is definitely better after surgery, and it's continuing to improve. There's a really good chance yours will too Best of luck!!
  14. Since losing my weight all of my blood test ranges have come back into the normal range. I am completely off my blood pressure medication as well - 120/80 now. And also, no more heal spurs. One negative though - my bum has shrunk alot so there isn't much padding there anymore, so I really feel hard chairs. LOL

This was the pic that made me decide to pursue weight loss surgery.

    Motherf&*^%$

I have gained weight 3 days in a row. I am up 1.6 pounds without changing anything diet wise. My body is a jerk. I know it is just normal fluctuations and I shouldn't be on the scale everyday but DAMN, WTF?!?! Just when I learn to breathe through my stalls and be all zen with the process, BAM! I told my husband to hide the scale because I am about to murder someone. That is all. Stupid, jerk body.
  18. I was banded on 3-31-2008 and lost 42 lbs by 9-11-2008. Yet I noticed last month that I had gained some wait plus my port had came a loose and was giving my some problems. Now after my surgery on 11-21-2008 I looked like I haven't lost any weight. My question is.....Is this normal?
  19. Pre-op ... tell them you're experimenting with a "quick start" diet. LOTS of people go on short-term liquid or partly liquid diets to lose some pounds quickly and then go to a more normal diet plan. Post-op? Let's be real, here. They're going to see the results, you'll be past the surgery itself. If they are rude enough to ask why you're drinking your meals instead of eating them, tell them whatever you want! Be funny or be rude back...whatever works for you. I chose to be honest. "well, you see, I got tired of losing and gaining. I knew I wasn't doing my body any favors. So I got the lap band. In another week, I'll be moving on to more solid food and then on to a full diet." Then you can just leave them in the dust. I work with two women who are the size I was, and since I have dropped one whole dress size and most of the next one, I gave them all the biggest clothes already. Now, one of them has been diagnosed with PCOS and has been put on South Beach by her doctor. So, she tells me "you just keep losing and I'm right behind you. Anything you shrink out of you just bring to me." In truth, there may be some people in your life who are a little jealous, but most will be in your corner so just answer them as the questions inevitably come. This is nothing to be ashamed of or whatever. You didn't take the easy way out. You had surgery, for crying out loud. It says you are DETERMINED to use the tools available to you to succeed.
  20. VSsupermodel my adult daughter and grandkids (out of state) are the only ones that have seen me since weight loss daughter was so excited - she has only seen me overweight, and then some my eldest grand-daughter Morgan is 12 - daughter asked her if she noticed that grammy had lost weight? she said "yes, i did, but i didn't want to be RUDE " - how silly is that will see my 4 siblings, and mom (all out of different states) in january - they all excited to see my weight loss, pretty excited to be seen too kathy
  21. I have been banded since 8/15/13 and have lost 53 lbs. so far. But for the past 2 weeks, I haven't lost any weight at all. I am having a hard time getting in allot of protein and not as many ounces of water as I should. Any suggestions how to increase both??? What does everyone else do? How many ounces of water and grams of protein does your DR/NUT recommended daily?

    out of control.

I put on 10 lbs before surgery-and then had to loose 18 lbs before they would perform the surgery My Dr counted the weight I had on the day I first saw him, the weight I had to loose was initially 8 lbs but because it takes a while to do all the testing and getting approval I gained 10 more lbs. In April I had to start dieting I had 5 weeks to loose the weight by my pre op check in-or surgery would be cancelled. I did manage to loose it thank goodness

    Support

My husband is scared, too. He supports me, but he's been avoidant because of fear. I wanted him to go to support group with me, but I think he just couldn't deal yet. He did mention my RNY to a coworker and the coworker told him that his wife also had weight loss surgery by my doctor and that the doctor was great and came highly recommended. When he told me this, I could tell it was something that gave him some relief. I think the support groups would do our spouses all some good.
  24. Short answer is no, at least not permanently. Stomached are made of flexible tissues. Longer answer herehttp://obesitycoverage.com/weight-loss-surgeries/gastric-sleeve/gastric-sleeve-will-my-stomach-stretch
