  1. What about your activity level? How active were you before the sleeve? What is your calorie intake on average a day? The reason I ask these questions: If you're not active enough, that could be a reason why the stagnation occurred. If you were not active before the sleeve and are now becoming active, you could be trading off some muscle for fat. If your calorie intake is less than it should be, your body could be in starvation mode which causes you to slow down your weight loss.

    Cigna Question

I have Cigna and I started with one bariatric clinic and ended up choosing another. The first told me that Cigna is very strict and to not gain a pound or I would be denied. They also had a chart to fill out that had a box for diet and exercise, and that if both were not filled out, it wouldn’t be approved. The second clinic did not mention a thing to me and even allowed a visit with my primary care doctor to be counted as my first month. We talked about dieting and obesity, but not like I do with the weight loss clinic. I am not sure what was in the notes but I can’t imagine it was much. Cigna approved my claim in 48 hours due to being 37 and already having a knee replacement. Age: 37 Height: 5’6 BMI: 37 VSG scheduled for 4/16/18 GW: 160 MFP: Fit4LifeAR
  3. its been a rough weekend (a lot of personal drama at home) but this morning I hit my tickers halfway point of -58lbs. With 58 still to go to get to my "dream" weight, I know its achievable, but at this moment ~ I don't care. Sorry I need to vent here because I cant at home or out aloud. I walked into work an hour ago crying... not feeling it right now. Adult son has some serious legal issues right now and is probably going "away" for a while. This is my youngest child who lives at home with me and his step-dad - I feel alone.

Help! how do I deal with this?

thank you - you are right Nat , she has a very warped view - I tell you what when she stood there right in front of me and my other overweight work mate and said point blank to my face that she HATES fat people cause " we are disgusting with no self pride " I almost snapped. I have lost nearly 20kgs now and am quite proud of myself , but when someone stands there and says " the only way you can lose weight is to eat good and exercise - which fat people don't do " knowing full well that I have had this surgery I nearly beat the crap out of her!! And shes not skinny either!!! I'm sorry to bore everyone with this but I don't think that I have felt rage like this ever!!!
  5. You're NOT going backwards! Your weight loss has been incredible! To the extent you have been off the wagon, now you gotta get back on the horse!! You know what to do.... Less carbs, more protein, make sure you are getting your water in. Cut out any sugar you're eating. It's just like in the beginning (where I am!!!) - once sugar goes in, cravings start. Once you get the sugar out of the system, the cravings subside. YOU CAN DO THIS! (And, you're doing great! Don't be too hard on yourself!)
  6. for me after 6months my weight drastically slowed down, so I feel what your saying , but every month I loose about 5 or 6 lbs and at a year I am 119 lbs down . started at 338 now I am 219 ,.... be patient keep doing what your doing..... and excercise

    7 Weeks Out.

I feel ya! And my misery loves your company. :-) Sleeved on 10/17. Down 28 pounds. It's been a slow go for me. I've already hit two serious stalls and a couple mini stalls. It is frustrating, but I am keeping the faith that it is working and will continue to work. I will admit, I do compare my weight loss with others and it leads to no good. I've always been a slow loser and it looks like I will continue to be a slow loser. Hang in there! And I will be a hanging in there with you.

    Permanent Stall

A few more questions. You said you had a gastric bypass. Was it a Roex-en-Y or a sleeve or an Omega loop. I know next to nothing about an Omega Loop other than it is popular in Australia and their meal plan and Vitamin requirements are really, really strange. Your profile shows you as a female. Is this a mistake? I only mention this because of Water retention issues that are sometimes experienced by females. Do you have any co-morbidity problems that cause you to take prescription medicine that might interfere with weight loss? Did you experience any bad side effects from the surgery?

That's funny that your best friend's name is Debbie. What a coincidence. A stricture is when scar tissue or inflammation narrows the connection between the stomach and intestine. The opening narrowed so much that food was unable to pass. I had take a Tylenol that I had split in two and I ended up in the ER. The pain was a 10/10, worse pain that I have experienced in my life. I have a high pain threshold and this almost knocked me to my knees. With the pain I was having severe nausea and vomiting, sweating and an overall horrible feeling. The second time it sent me to ER (4 days later), I had tried to eat spaghetti, which I had tolerated before. After 2-3 small swallows, the pain started 15 minutes later. Then it progressed to a 9/10. The surgeon performed an endoscopy and used a balloon to open the opening to more than twice the original size. This was a couple of weeks ago and yesterday was my first pain free day after eating or drinking my Protein...YIPPEE!! The protein that I use is unjury. I did check the ingredients and it does have soy. Since I am just now eating "real" food in very small amounts, I am very hesitant to stop the Protein drinks because I will not be able to consume enough protein for an adequate maintenance. I "WISH" I could drink my protein in three big swigs. lol It takes me 20-30 minutes to drink it because I would either get discomfort or nausea if I consumed it too quickly. I like this protein company since they produce medical grade protein. As for my thyroid, I had problems with it years ago. I may ask for my doc to check it then next time I have blood drawn. My post RNY weight was 203 and I am now at 163. This past week, I have not lost any weight. It has been up and down all week with a result to only equal what I weighed the previous week. Having not been able to tolerate much food for the last three weeks. I thought I would have lost more. A little about me...I live in Wyoming. I have been married for 23 years. I have two wonderful boys, ages 16 & 20. I also have two crazy dogs, a Siberian Husky and a Weimaraner. I am more of a cold weather kinda of gal but I don't mind the beach/hot weather if it is for a vacation. As for your comment about a "standing on your heads, doing jumping jacks while drinking a "kale smoothie"...ummm, no thanks! lol Thanks for all of the input ladies. It makes all of this easier to deal with.

Thanks you KayKay, it really isn't that wonderful, I have rosacia and if I take a drink (wine for eg) I turn quite red. Also still get bumps when I eat lots of carbs. Am fortunate that I don't have many wrinkles for my age (71) and attribute some of that to being a non-smoker all my life and not a sun-seeker. Living so far north helps with that aspect of course, wear a cap when fishing or full helmet when motorcycling, so the face is somewhat protected in the summer. I don't do sunscreen tho, so go figure! LOL! I only hope the face will be somewhat toned with the weight loss and not go all lwrinkly and saggy baggy! will find our soon enough I guess, sleeve day in 9 days now!

    NSV Speculations ....

I don't own a scale. The only time I get myself weighed is when I am in a doc's office. This means that I have been relying entirely on NSVs throughout my weight loss journey. There have been many and almost of them have been fun. Finding that you can easily fit into clothes which you were formerly too fat to wear is great. Finding that those same pants will no longer stay up is pretty amazing, too. I once walked right out of a pair of capris. Having friends and family make a fuss over your fabulous weight loss is pretty nice. Realising that you can shop in normoLand is a real gas, too. Wearing nicer, hipper clothes is fabulous.
  12. Hello everyone, I am pre op however I am excited to hear about the increased fertility that comes with being sleeved! My Husband wantes to use Condoms for the first several months before I am Cleared by my Physican to begin trying to have a baby. Note that this will be our first child, I have been on birth control for over 10 years and this is thee first time I will be going without BC. To add to that My Hubby who is Military will be returning around the time I will be having surgery which is SCARY! For the first time in my life I am excited about the possibility of having a baby~ I am 29 years young and have been married for nearly 6 years~Birth control has also resulted in me gaining extra weight or other complication~~~~I know he wants to use condoms and not traditional birth controls but I don't wanna get preggos too soon and have complications~ What has been YOUR experience with Pregnancy Post op? When did you begin trying? How long after Surgery did you get pregnant? Thanks in advance~ T~

    NSV Speculations ....

Ok, so I have been sitting here pondering what my first NSV will be. My DH pipped up, well your pants could fall off (this is via email as he is deployed). I was like, well they do that already if I don't have a belt. I am cursed with a obnoxiously small waist and a HUGE bottom half (read as over a 20in difference). So with out my belt or a tailor I could literally slide my pants on and off with out unzipping them (it actually sucks). So that one is out for a first NSV. Then I started thinking about the things I liked doing when I was a kid that I don't do anymore. Running, I think I am going to work my first NSV to try and be a 9min mile again. I used to love running, then my knees went out (no lasting damage, just enough to take me off the track for a long time) and the weight started piling on. Or, or getting back in the pool and trying to beat my old swim records. Nothing like Olympic times, just beating my old personal bests from swim meets and such. So, if you could plan your first NSV what would it be??

    Recovery after workouts

Yea, I'm scaling it back. The P90X, I knew it was going to be tough. I have done it in the past, but after my first workout, my numbers were almost cut in half. I also have a herniated disc in my neck, and a bad lower back. I now have the mindset to take all workouts a little easier and focus more on form rather than lifting more and more. So I stopped with the P90X. Bought some Bowflex dumbbells and a bench, and now that's my weight training along with a pull up/dip station.
  15. What a wunderful new period in your life! My surgeons practice actually asks all female patients to use 2 types of birth control during the first 18-24 months post surgery. There are a number of reasons why, even with a sleeve, there is malnutrition that you suffer when losing the weight, the high amount of Protein is very hard on your kidneys and anemia is common as are vit B, A, D and Calcium deficiencies. hair loss is a big complaint due to the shock to the system and malnutrtion. When you become pregnant the fetus requires nutrition that you're body may not be able to provide without detriment to you or the baby. What leads to infertility for so many women is the excess estrogen stored in all the extra fat we carry, therefore, drop the fat and boom fertility increases! I can tell you about my closest friend who suffered from PCOS and was unable to get pregnant until she had Gastric Bypass. She had open surgery nearly 10 years ago and lost a good 50 lbs when she began actively trying to get pregnant (against medical advice). She was blessed with a healthy bohy and relatively few complications despite being 12 months out from surgery when she delivered! Since then she has had 2 other sons but has gained some weight back and recently lost a pregnancy. The surgery was a success for her and she was able to get pregnant right away, she would tell you she doesn't regret any of it! I'm so happy for you and your husband, I pray your surgery is also a success and that many babies are in your future! Please keep us posted on your journey! :-)
  16. I had lap band surgery in May 2017. I have a full band, no restriction, and have lost no weight since the procedure. I switched to a new doctor who seems to think the band has slipped and we have discussed revision to the bypass or sleeve. I am just wondering if I will have to go through the 6 months of nutritional visits, psych exam, etc...again since I just completed all of those requirements about a year ago. I just hate the idea of starting over with all of that. I have Molina Medicaid in Ohio. Any input would be appreciated!. Thanks! Sent from my Pixel XL using BariatricPal mobile app

    How much

Everyone is different, if you have more weight to begin with you will lose more in the first couple months.

    No pastas or breads?

If you are only 5 weeks out, after you eat your protein and some veggies how would you have any room for bread? I didn't start eating anything starchy; bread, pasta or potatoes until I reached my goal weight and even now I rarely have pasta or potatoes but do like to have tortillas, whole grain crackers and sometimes toast.

    No pastas or breads?

I know I had a very hard time tolerating any Pasta or bread until I was 3-4 months post op. My nutritionist said I could eat toasted bread if I wanted something earlier on but I didn't miss it. I used this to my advantage, because the truth of the matter is, the most effective diet for significant weight loss is a low carb diet. You want your body to be in a state of ketosis (look it up), that's how pound upon pound gets shed. Loading up on simple carbs (bread, rice, pasta) won't do you any favors with the scale. I'd say your focus should be on meeting Protein goals and eating some veggies and fruit if the protein alone doesn't fill you up. There will always be time for grains later. But for the sake of throwing ideas out there, my go-to lower carb side dishes are: cauliflower rice, spaghetti squash, and zoodles (julienne zucchini). I hope this helps!

    No pastas or breads?

There are things you "shouldn't" eat for optimal weight loss, and there are things you "can't" eat because they'll mess you up (sticking, puking and such). I can eat bread and pasta if I take super small bites, but I really try not to eat them. Pasta and sauce in particular really make me gurglely and uncomfortable. Cauliflower crust pizza is pretty good (you can google it and find different recipes for the crust, then do what you'd like with the topping). Using zucchini or spaghetti squash in place of pasta works (though they're not absorbent the way pasta is). You didn't mention potatoes, but I love smashed cauliflower in place of mashed potatoes. And honestly, I've done stuff like make tuna pasta salad without the pasta (tuna, mayo, chopped veggies), and it's pretty good stuff.

I just wanted to share a NSV with you all...Summer clothes shopping is my least favorite thing to do in the world. At least buying winter clothes, I am able to buy big sweaters and stuff. But shopping for summer clothes (especially bathing suits) has always been so depressing to me....until now!!! I went to Target the other day and found myself in the clothing department (not even plus size department) and I tried on some swimsuits and some summer dresses. They all fit me and I actually liked the way they looked on me!!! My only problem was deciding which to buy because I liked them all. That hasn't happened to me in a long time!!!! I came home so excited and called my mom right away to tell her that not only was I able to shop in the juniors department, but I also liked the clothes I tried on!!!!! It has been a long, slow weight loss for me, but now it is paying off. I've had my band now for a year and a half and finally I'm feeling good about myself. So for all of you who are struggling, hang in there....it might take longer than you expected, but it will be soooooo worth it!!!!!
  23. I stalled weeks 2 and 3 post-op. During week 4, I dropped six lbs. As djmohr said, just stick to the program - the stall will end and you'll start dropping weight again
  24. I have been lurking on here for the past month & thought its time to join!!! I like reading all the encouraging helpful posts. I started my appointments back in December & all my documentation was sent in to the ins company last Thursday! My date is set for March 28 BUT I could possibly reschedule for Mar 21 IF I get my final approval this week..needless to say Im really stressed:( I left a message for am & I hope she still calls today. My last apt I had gained 4lbs so Im kicking myself & I hope & pray they don't get finicky! Im so ready, I have been doing the liquid portion here & there....not full speed ahead until I get the day in stone but today Im having a hard time & just want to eat eat eat. My reasons for doing the surgery beside the weight which has been a struggle all my adult life..the usual, I lose 20 lbs, gain it back etc.....I am an avid exerciser, I LOVE working out!! I tend to get obsessed with it at times. BUT I have a knee issue, I have had 4 surgeries & I will be faced with a replacement some day if I don't lose weight & keep it off. Also, I have high blood pressure (1 med), high cholesterol (2 meds) & I am borderline diabetic. I really hoping for a complete lifestyle change & I cannot weight!! In fact, I haven't bought any clothes in months because I want to buy a smaller size:) Anyway, I think you will see me here, asking questions, seeking advice & sharing my progress etc. Im excited to be a part of this group!!!
