So Disappointed :(
Txpo Chick replied to newlifebeginswithme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am post op 5 weeks, i understand completely how you feel. I get so mad at my self for bad habits coming back. I have read the responses from the others and find them helpful. I get mad and move on. It is a battle I am going to win and you can too. Keep your chin up! -
Yes, you are consuming very few calories and living off of stored fat. That is why people lose so much at first. However, you can't live long at all without Water. That is why you have to force yourself to drink water. Many people get dehydrated and end up back in the hospital. You also need to start getting Protein as soon as you can (well, following your doctor's plan) so people drink Protein drinks, slowly, small sips. For the first couple of weeks people are getting very few calories but then they increase little by little as they add more food.

Surgery on 9 Aug! Yikes!!!
curvygirl68 replied to curvygirl68's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are so lucky only 2 weeks on the pre op diet! They make us do 4 weeks here in the UK. I don't know how well I've done to be honest all the scales I tried said the same thing which I don't believe as I feel different. I'm going with my heart in my mouth that they feel I've lost enough to do the op. I'm around 244lbs so not one of heavier patients I've been told. Have you got stuff for after the op? I don't have much in at all but I think its a good opportunity for me to get some exercise walking to the shops! -

After surgery, I went a week without going. My dr said it was fine. For me, drinking a little hot water or decaf coffee will get things moving. -
Constipation. Tmi!
Brandywine replied to Crystalite's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Someone suggested smooth move tea on my TMI post a week ago.... Almost mth out.... It worked and was pretty mild compared to a laxative , I made that mistake And almost died! Lol anyways I liked it I let my self get a week out and uncomfortable before I use anything. Good luck. -
You both sound great, which is very encouraging when you're still looking ahead. Donny - are you able to swallow a prilosec capsule? I'm a little fuzzy on whether or not you're allowed to take pills, etc., in the first few days/weeks following surgery.

How long did it take to get your surgery?
Vivian19 replied to SigmaChefSpe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my seminar and initial consultation on May 11, nutritionist appt. with metabolic breath test, psych eval, split sleep study all at the end of May. Insurance approval took a little over a week, my surgery date is tomorrow. Thank God.... I am ready to get sleeved. You are almost there, Good luck! -
I am also 3 weeks post op. I am mostly losing in my breasts and stomach, but I am not down a size yet. I definitely still have a stomach, but its smaller. My pants are looser but I tried a smaller size and could not button them comfortably. I also feel frustrated and want a more immediate result, but in the long run I know it will be better to lose it slowly, so it will take longer to go down sizes. Focus on your goal, not how quickly you will get there.

Approved for the 25th.....nervous!!!!
gloeygirl replied to drake1219's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm so excited for you! I just got approved today, but not scheduled until the Christmas holidays. I'm not looking forward to the 2 week liquid diet. Just like you, the nights are the hardest. I lived in SA for 5 years and my BFF from SA is the one who convinced me to have the surgery. She had the lapband and has lost over 100 pounds. Her two gf's had the sleeve and have lost 125 and 90! I can't wait for the all new me. Best of luck to you. Gloey -
I am on the "mushy" diet. I am down 21lbs. I Haven't loss a pound this week and I am ok with that. I am slowly telling family members about my surgery and some are supportive and some are not. I am ok with that too. I can't wait to start back at the gym, and swim in a pool. I am so excited for my new life. I am proud to have patience with this, but by summer my goal is to be a lot smaller, and able to ride on rides with my girls!

God is good! I made it through surgery! I was the first case 7:30 sharp. Woke up at 4:00 am speed dressed woke my hubby up, still going from the mag citrate! Got to the hospital at 5:30 went and registered with admissions. 5:45 up to preop weighed in no Weightloss even with all the crapping! 6:00 Iv in first try yes! bp heart rate.blood sugar normal. 7:00 taken down to surgery, kissed my hubby good bye, waiting for my nurse to see me in surgery. Said a prayer, nurse came over talked to me, surgeon came over talked to me, met anesthesiologist gave me a sedative to relax then wheeled me into surgery. During this time I was strangely calm, this was my first surgery ever! The anesthesiologist places a mask over my face told me to breath deeply 3 times and that's all I remember. I don't remember dreaming, being awakened from surgery, recovery room nada. I remember waking up in my room seeing my friends that I work with fussing over me placing me on telemetry, telling me where my painbutton is. I turned to my hubby asked him if they did the surgery. He said yes the surgeon told him surgery went well. Thank you God. By 3pm I was up walking, pain minimal, Foley catheter uncomfortable, back to bed minimal nausea. 5pm kids.up to see me sat up in the chair for a while quite groggy. Still minimal pain. This entire experience has been good minimal pain, don't feel like I has surgery, very little nausea. only set back my diastolic bp has been through the roof. Saw my regular Dr Friday got put on another bp med. Hopefully that will change soon, I will see the surgeon today. Highest weight 255 preop 242 current weight 229 I've lost 13lbs in a week pretty shocking.

Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since my surgery. My doctor had me on clear liquids for a week. I am supposed to be on liquids, cream soups and protein shakes this week and next week. I cannot drink the protein shakes. I have tried several kinds but they either get stuck going down or they make me nauseous and upset my stomach. I'm worried I won't heal like I should with no protein for 3 weeks. Has anyone been through this or have any advice?

Tomorrow is the BIG DAY! Any last minute advice?
ImWithTheBand13 replied to ImWithTheBand13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks all for the advice. Doing well. Between one week liquid pre op and 6 days post op, I am down 16 pounds. Not really hungry yet so doing what I can to get protein drinks in. Been up and out since 2 days post op walking at least 30 minutes. Even got a law school final in 3 days post op . Very very very sore at port site but it is getting a bit better every day. No regrets - just looking forward to losing the last 53!! Thanks for the support - enjoy your thanksgiving!! -
Yes, at after surgery, I had to sip fluids too. But after a couple of weeks, I was back to drinking larger quantities of Fluid at once. It will get better.
-
Something similar happened to me about 3 weeks after surgery. I couldn't hold anything down and would gag/vomit until my tummy was sore. Yes, I was taking Prilosec. I ended up being hospitalized for a week for dehydration & malnutrition. Worst experience of my entire life!

I am 4 weeks post op and getting light headed any time I look down even if it's to put something in the oven...anyone else have this problem or have any idea why this would be happening?

You mention calories (which seem really low) but not Protein. What is your protein target? Mine is 100 grams and my surgeon's range is 80-100 grams. How are you doing at getting in all of your protein? Are you able to consume at least 80 grams? Stalls are a normal, natural, and necessary part of the process of losing weight. But, if you are eating so little you may not be getting enough nutrition to support your activity level and weight loss. Getting in enough protein and Fluid (at least 64 oz) is critical for health and for weight loss. Embrace the Stall http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351046-Embrace-the-Stall Your calories are relative to your protein. What is your protein target?

Sounds like you are right on track!! Do you go next week for your first fill. Stay positive and try to drink fluids as much as possible to deter those hunger feelings. I wish you the best!!

able to eat anything
mlafentres replied to resintx's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What the others said.... And... don't get your hopes up too much about that first fill. It often takes more than 1 fill before you get restriction. Some doctors are very conservative with fills. My doctor gave me 3cc on my first. 3cc on my second and then 1cc on my third. That is one of the most aggressive fill schedules I've heard based on the other posts I've read. My second fill I felt restriction for about 1.5 weeks then it loosened up. Now with my third fill I'm crossing my fingers that I keep my restriction. It is not uncommon that after the swelling goes down to feel hunger. Hang in there and talk to your doctor about fills. Every doctor seems to have a different take on what the right fill schedule is. -
Need To Get Back On Track.
Tina L replied to Tina L's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know! Depression really plays a huge part of your overall health and I think if I could just get out of this rut I could lose again. At least you are going to the gym. I might get another fill this next week and see if it helps. Thanks for responding. I don't want to be a Debbir downer but I don't know anyone who has had the band done so it help to talk. -
I feel as i am able to down numerous Protein shakes, yogurt, sugar free pudding, sugar free Jello and popcicles, etc... and while i am full for about 5 minutes, it then just goes straight through me. Cottage cheese seems to help hold me over a little longer. It's been about 3 weeks since surgery and my GI doctor told me to experiment with some foods that i may be able to tolerate. Softer foods, but not liquids. I'm really craving oatmeal. I have sugar free oatmeal packets. Does anything think this is a safe food for me at this point? I'd have to measure it out so i don't go overboard (i LOVE oatmeal) but i think it would really hit the spot and take the hunger off for a while. Anyone try oatmeal at 3 weeks out?? Also, are high Fiber foods bad right now? Filling, low calorie foods are supposed to be good, but i don't want anything that will swell too much and get stuck or cause vomiting. Any food suggestions? Sorry for posting so much guys this is just so new to me, and i am damn sick of yogurt and pudding!!!

First STUCK episode!
sparkplug replied to OneYearLater's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost 2 years banded and still occasionally get stuck. Just this last week, twice on turkey!! I refuse to throw it back up, just walked and walked, with chewing papaya enzyme tablets and finally it moved down. I tend to miss meals on weekend and I get so hungry, either I take too big of a bite or don't chew enough. Wouldn't you think I would learn by now. I would hate to see if I had any fill, never had a fill and probably a good thing for that. Hopefully we will learn down the road.... -
