Overeating with Sleeve

As far as getting dizzy goes try to stay as hydrated as possible. I still get dizzy spells and i'm almost at 4 months post op but it doesn't bother me too much, i just pause and hang on to something for 5 seconds and go about my business. 2 weeks post surgery i couldn't even eat an ounce of food. I did a hardcore low carb diet since i've had surgery and my BP the last 4 times i've had it checked was 117/69 and they cut my BP meds in half. So if you had high BP that could also be why your getting dizzy, your body is adjusting. It's all part of the surgery, it will come and go. I would urge you not to try to over eat. 4 months out an appropriate meal size for me is 2 slices of swiss cheese and 2 slices pepperoni's from the deli. I'm not sure what that comes out too but it's not much and fills me up for hours.

Overeating with Sleeve

Milhouse, I'm grateful for your post. I'm 2 weeks out and just started pureed diet and was wondering the same thing. Slightly dizzy, low-energy and I don't seem to have issues with 'overfilling'. I mushed up about half a cup of veggies/broth last night and had no issues wiht the amount, which got me wondering. I'm doing great, lost 30 so far and very happy, but I had the same concerns. Thanks to all who added insight.
3. Ok, so I have been at the "three week stahl" since week 2 and that was 2 1/2 weeks ago, how long does this last!?!! This is ridiculous, I just had major surgery, suffered, eat hardly anything and haven't lost a thing in almost 3 weeks! I guess I am just afraid that I will be the one person this doesn't work for. I mean I know everyone goes through the stahl's, but this is going to work for me right? right?
4. congrats on the progress. I have not had WLS yet, but from what I have seen in my reading is that people lose weight (100 lbs in a year or less) at 1# a week people would never reach that. After 3 months, how is your quality of life? Do you feel normal? I am nervous to do this because I am fearful that I may never be the same again. Obviously that is the point, but I am fearful I will do something that is irreversible with regret.

soon to be bandster

Kitkat - I know exactly how you feel. I think almost everyone is in that same place. Or at least been there. My surgery is next friday. One week from today. I just want it done so I can start my new life. Good luck to you and keep posting.

Surviving Bandster Hell...

I was banded two weeks ago today. At my follow up last week, I was told I could start trying soft foods. Now, one week later, I have tried some other foods and have done well. However, I'm being sure to eat light (liquid or very, soft food) in the morning and at lunch and am starting to try other things. I'm chewing very carefully, eating slow and I've not had any issues so far.
7. Hi, I was banded May 11, and doing quite well so far... I've just been wondering, I read so much about bandster hell, and how hard it can be to curb your eating until you get some fills and start feeling restriction; I am not going to get my first fill until 7 weeks post-op, and I'm pretty worried about that. I'm still not eating (or wanting) more than about 900-1000 calories a day, so I guess I'm still healing, but when can I expect bandster hell to hit? Is there a pretty usual range of time post-op? I like to know what I can expect so I can be prepared. Please share your experience with me. Thanks!

Bandster Hell

The first week after surgery was great - I got filled with very little! This is week 2 and I am hungrier and can easily eat more. I am trying to stick to the diet and I do wait an hour after eating before drinking any water. This is what I would call Bandster Hell. I am not replying on the band to reduce my hunger. basically, I am dieting on my own. I'll get a fill in 4 weeks-that seems like such a long time, but I can do this!! Also, the first fill might not get me to that point-so BH might last a little longer. I think going into surgery you have to realize that for at least the first 55-6 weeks you will be dieting on your own (maybe longer) depending on when you reach that "sweet spot." This time period is all about patience and portion control.

Bandster Hell

I think it varies from person to person. I never really experienced bandster hell. I've not gotten really hungry from the get go, sire i get hungry after 4-5 hours but not like starving unless i go a long time between meals, and had my first fill, a little one, 5 months post op. But from what I've read, it could start a day after surgery, or up to a couple weeks post op.

December Bandster

We should connect! I was banded on December 23rd by Dr. Elli! I am also a low BMI. If you feel like it facebook me at Rachael Schultz Schroeder. I work in Chicagoland during the week, but live in Ohio.
11. So I'm 3 weeks post op and I think I'm experiencing bandster hell. About an hour after I eat I'm hungry again. Like hungry hungry. I've been trying to make sure that I'm eating enough protein but it still doesn't keep me satisfied. I go in for my first fill on Friday. I'm just wondering if this is what bandster hell is. And could this be why my weight loss has slowed down the last few days?

Year out. DON'T want to eat. CAN'T eat.

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. Weight loss is achieved after surgery through volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein shakes. I lost my hunger after surgery and it was not difficult to lose weight when you are not hungry. But the hunger returned about a year later but by that time I had lost a significant amount of weight. @ said I am a year out from my RNY. I was non compliant all that time. I did not gain any weight but I also did not lose. I have NO appetite. This is rather strange and it seems to me that something is wrong unrelated to your surgery. After I gained my appetite back, I had an experience of getting a stomach flu that lasted for a week. During that week, I was not hungry and ate very little and lost weight quickly. So if you continue to want to lose weight; restrict the volume of your meals, and make sure that you are meeting your daily protein, fluid and vitamin requirements. Also try to get in around 30 minutes of walking exercise per day [or equivalent].
13. Hello everyone, My name is Joyce. I was banded November 15, 2007. I live on the east coast. I completing my fourth week and I have lost 10 lbs. I have maintained the weight since I lost. I have not had a fill as of yet. I will see the surgeon the first week of January 2008. I am thinking I will probably need a fill. My weight fluctuates everyday. It seems I am losing then I gain it right back. I initially exercised, but my incisions are bothering me. I am getting sharp pains and a pulling sensation when I am standing and walking. My stomach is drooping a little, maybe that is the reason for the pulling?? Anyway, I am getting my Protein requirements in everyday and I am keeping good records of my diet. Oh, well. I do feel a lot better and my friends are complimenting me on my initial weight loss, especially those who didn't know I had surgery. I just want to get the ball rolling though. I am new to this site and look forward to everyone's comments.
14. Sorry about the lost of your god mother. Actually I went to my 2 week post op appointment today. The nutritionist said these symptoms can be that you are not getting enough fluids. Hope everything works out
15. I'm 6 days post op. Have no problem getting all my Water down, but still getting just 30-40 grams of Protein. How about everyone else? HW(9/3/13)- 284,
DOS(9/11/13)-269,
CW-265(9/15/13),
GW-155(by 9/21/14...my 26th birthday!)

Pills

So tomorrow I’ll be four weeks post op, or we’ll one month. And the pains on my left side have gotten sorta worse so I contacted my dr who decided I should take muscle relaxers. Well they called as they were closing and just said to start taking them tonight. I forgot to ask if I should crush them or just take them whole. The pharmacist wasn’t help either nor was the on call nurse who “can’t answer questions unless it’s an emergancy”. I have an apt tomorrow and I will be asking them them about the rest of my meds like my blood pressure, anxiety, and vitamins. Do you think I can take it whole? My body just doesn’t handle crushed pills well, it results in puking it all up within five minutes haven’t even been able to take my vitamins(so I was told to just take it easy and try to drink stuff that has it in it already)or my anxiety meds.

Stalls

Hello! I'm 2 months out and I'm experiencing the same thing! I was bypassed 04/04/2019 and since then i've lost lots of weight but the pounds seem to drop all at once for a week or even less and then stall for two or three weeks, then drop a bunch in a week and then stall again for 2-3 weeks. I feel like all the weight i've dropped was in like 2 weeks total and the rest of the 2 months was just stalls. I think it's normal though, as long as we're losing weight in the end. I feel you, though, it's very frustrating. I'm 21 so yeah it may be our age too. Good luck!

Sweets

I find sweets are addictive. I used to love them and crave them. Once I stopped eating them (while I was dieting before surgery) I stopped craving them. That made it much easier to avoid them. I’m only 6 weeks post surgery but so far no desire for sweets!! Good luck to you!!

Eating

I'm only two weeks out and just started the pureed phase, but I feel like I can eat my meals pretty fast. I actually have to take my time and go slow on purpose. Today for Breakfast, I had 1/2 an egg, some soyrizo, and an oz of refried Beans all mixed together. Eating with a baby spoon, I had to force myself to eat slow and it took me about 20 mins. HW: 437 SW: 376 RNY on 5/16/16

Stalls..

i lost 100lbs in the first 6 months. but i’ve been stalled for a month straight now since. talked to my surgeon yesterday, he said i will start to lose again for sure. he said i have been a fast loser the first 6 months, and a lot of times that means the 6-month stall will be longer than usual bc your body has a lot to adjust to. he said slower losers have a much shorter 6-month stall, or none at all.
21. Hi there, I am an Occupational Therapist in an acute care hospital. Needless to say, my job is fast paced and requires heavy lifting of patients. I had to be out of work (per MD order) for 2 weeks but I felt physically well enough to go back after 1 week. My recommendation is to take the time off your doctor recommends and take care of yourself. This is a big change in lifestyle and takes some time to get used to. The other thing is to listen to your body...when you go back to work you will be a little on the tired side from not being as active (at least I was). Ease into it and don't overcommit yourself if you can help it! Katie
22. Good luck. I start my 2 week pre-op next wednesday. Surgery Nov. 6.

Pre Op Diet....

I just went today to get my protein powder and some supplements. I went to GNC first and, OMG, way expensive! Hubby and I then went to Walmart and got for $20 what GNC was charging $36. Anyhoo, I just want to encourage you because, a week from today, I will be starting my pre-op diet. I am already warning my kids and hubby that I am probably going to be a psycho-hose beast for at least a week as my body slowly breaks up with my lifelong love affair for all things food-like. This website has helped so much in answering my questions and giving me support. I think we all have a common goal and we need to remember that and be there for each other. Good luck!
24. I meet with the NUT on Tuesday 10/23. Their literature says its a 2 week Protein liquid diet - so I'm not sure if it's 100% liquid or if I get 1 regular meal with chicken & veggies. I'm going to assume the worst (100% liquid) so if I do actually get a meal I'll be thrilled.
