  1. HAVE YOU GAINED WEIGHT AFTER YOUR SLEEVE. Hello everyone. I haven been on this forum for quite a while. I was sleeved back in June 2012. I had the lapband revision to sleeve. So far I've lost 45lbs give or take. My starting weight was 216. I lost my first 20 very quickly but from there on its was like pulling teeth.LOL. Anyhow a year to the day I had emergency gallbladder surgery and had to stop working out for a few month, gained a couple of pounds I was able to loose them again. For the past year and half I had endured Iron infusion for my low iron and hemoglobin. In December my OB/GYN decided I needed a total hysterectomy had the surgery done December 19 again had to stop working out and again gained roughly about 10 this lbs I haven't been able to loose it. I'm very worried and upset that I will be gaining more and more. I'm back working out and I'm very careful with what I eat and nothing scale won't move I know I haven't lost inches either because my clothes still fit tight. Everyone keeps telling it's because of the last surgery and that I look fine. It's sad because I don't like what I see in the mirror. And upsetting because I've put my body through so much and I don't want to be I vain.

    What did I wait for?

@Brigiter Sending prayers and positive thoughts your way. I focused on "getting my stomach cut" also, and it was a big part of my fear. The surgery was not as bad as I had imagined. Just an FYI, I know someone who recently had the revision from lapband to sleeve and she told me the lapband was worse than the sleeve surgery! Good luck! I am sure you will do fine. 2 days to go. I will be thinking of you and sending prayers on 5/5!
  3. Thank you all for sharing, my surgery is scheduled May 5th I can't believe it's happening I already have a Lapband, it has given me some problems so going in to revision to sleeve, I am panicking, Lapband surgery was much easier, I guess the fact of getting my stomach cut escalates the panic to another level. I'm praying for strength to not chicken out, my Wheight is currently out of control due to the Lapband had to be unfilled, gain 20 pounds in 5 month... Trying hard not to and working out a lot I still gained them! Reading this thread made me realize my feelings & fears are more common than what I thought, I am fearful to have a nervous breakdown this Tuesday and not follow through with the surgery, but if I do I will never forgive myself! I am finding comfort in prayers and positive thoughts! Thank you again for sharing and being supportive through your own experiences.

Why did you choose gastric by pass instead of sleeve? I'm having revision to sleeve, just curious about why you chose bypass

    Fluids and Food ... Questions!

What's a revision? I just came out the hospital from being sleeved today and this liquid diet is not doing it for me. Neither are the protein shakes. I am super hungry and wonder what I'm doing wrong. I shouldn't be this hungry. I also have no issues getting liquid down.
  7. I had my revision on April 16th. I have seen a lot of comments about individuals not being able to get their fluids in. I have had no problem getting my fluids in from the beginning and have started on soft (pureed) foods and am feeling good. I have not ate much when I do, but am having no problems (except some stomach acid). Is there anyone else who is feeling this good and not having problems with Fluid or food? I seem to read all about the problems and wonder if something is wrong that I am not having any???

7weeks out, feeling down, weight stopped

Is there anything on the can eat list you like? I am currently looking at a revision for similar issue and I know that from what I have been reading the losses can be a bit slower. Just remember the RNY is so different than sleeve. I am typing this as my heart is burning.. Hoping for relief soon. I can be emotional as well. Going through surgery twice sucks!

Welcome to the VIP Member Lounge!

Thank you for this forum. I was one that was very active and left the boards due to the amount of negativity at certain times and unrealistic expectations of some. I came back because I am considering revision surgery due to gerd, hernia, and lack of weightloss post pregnancy. I am looking for others that have had revision surgery. I had my VSG done in Bogota, CB by an amazing team and had great follow up care. We are now back in the US and I will most likely have surgery with Dr. Halmi.

    Last minute surgery change

I had the sleeve in October 2012. I have since had a baby and gained weight during pregnancy that is not moving. My upper gi shows extreme gerd and a distended sleeve. Now looking at a revision. I am a bit disappointed to go through this all again and I know many of people that did really well with Sleeve. I also now those that did well with RNY. I like the fact there is more long term info with RNY and with the sleeve not so much. My surgeon informed me he has seen sleeve distention post pregnancy and I can't find any data......i worked my butt of to lose 53lbs and it is frustrating be dealing with gerd and no weight loss...

    Advice please band to sleeve

Sleeve, sleeve, sleeve!!! The band, is implanted in you, which has parts that can erode, come apart, deteriorate!!! I ended having 5 surgeries before I was revised to a sleeve. It's just more normal. Good luck to you in whatever you choose!!!

  14. Hi. Yes, I will be having a revision from band to sleeve. I can't wait for this useless foreign object to come off! My biggest fear is that the sleeve fails too but I have to stay optimistic. How are you doing w your preop diet?

Member Spotlight in the Newsletter – Meet Djmohr! This month, we are pleased to feature Djmohr from Pewaukee, Wisconsin in our Member Spotlight section! Djmohr says she had been struggling with her weight since the birth of her second child…32 years ago! “That is a lot of yo yo dieting!” Djmohr had watched her mother die at age 66 from diabetes and sleep apnea complications. She herself was struggling with life-threatening health issues, including psoriatic arthritis, degenerative spine disease, Severe GERD, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, hypothyroidism, high cholesterol, and severe migraines. The final straw was her diagnosis of stage 3 kidney disease. She got her roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in September of 2014. Djmohr considers herself lucky, since her family has been supportive. Her highest weight was 310 pounds. Since surgery, she has lost nearly 100 lb., and she has a goal of 165 lb. Things have gone so well she says her biggest challenge has been to occasionally stop talking about her surgery with other people! Her health has improved dramatically, with diabetes, high cholesterol, and kidney disease all resolved! She’s sleeping better, and is off pain, cholesterol and diabetes medications. She still has arthritis, but pushes through the pain and gets her workouts in. Djmohr says she feels better afterwards when she does get her exercise in, but doesn’t always hit her goals. She loves being able to keep up with family, and not be the one to hold them back anymore. She’s traveled with them to Las Vegas, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico since her surgery. Shopping is a pleasure now. Djmohr is grateful to have BariatricPal to visit every day to give and receive support. As she hits the 7-month post-op mark, she’s ready to put more effort into helping others the way she was helped before. She’s still focused on meeting the challenges of maintenance, though. Djmohr’s advice is to follow your doctor’s plan. It will help avoid complications, which will make the journey easier and will help you lose weight. Thanks, Djmohr, for being in our member spotlight! It is a pleasure to see the success of people like you who are positive and eager to give back! Good luck as you approach goal weight and maintenance! Let us know if you want to be in the Member Spotlight in the newsletter. Nominate yourself or someone else in the member spotlight forum or by sending a private message to Alex Brecher. We want to hear from you! Summer Fun, Summer Food: Are You Ready? Summer is around the corner, and summer activities are coming up fast. There may be trips to the beach, days at the mall, hikes, and vacations in your future. This could be your most active summer yet if you’ve lost weight recently and gotten into better shape. Are you ready to keep up the healthy habits to match the hard work you’ve already put in? Pack a Picnic For a family picnic, include plenty of high-protein, low-calorie options. The whole family can enjoy foods like hard-boiled eggs, celery with Peanut Butter, tuna salad made with Greek yogurt, or coleslaw made with Asian vinaigrette. Include in your picnic basket fruits and vegetables to munch on, whether it’s carrot sticks, grapes, or oranges. For a barbecue, include some turkey burgers or veggie burgers, and skip the bun. Fend for Yourself If you’re going on a day-long outing, make sure you think about your food ahead of time. There will be times when the family has lunch somewhere that does not have great options for your weight loss surgery diet. Think about the hot dog vendor on the beach or the snack stand at the fair…nope, fried anything-on-a-stick is not on your WLS diet! That’s when you whip out your beef Jerky, a low-fat cheese stick (string cheese), or your pre-measured serving of trail mix. Hope you’re getting ready to enjoy your healthiest summer yet! 4 Weeks out!

Hello everyone, my name is Free. I had gastric bypass surgery April 6th. So far I've lost 31lbs & I'm feeling pretty good. My surgery was actually a revision from lapband surgery that I had back in 2009. My band slipped and I had it removed back in February. It's good to be able to join this group. Glad to meet, share and support you all on this journey. Good luck and congrats to you all.
  18. Obviously you know your surgeon and trust his judgment. I'm not trying to question your doc. BUT........My understanding is that generally just having any sugery and going under anethesia is often the most dangerous part of any surgery. So two surgeries with recovery would be a much higher risk that just one. For me, there was no way I was going to have my band removed, then recover and then do the sleeve. Two surgeries, two periods to recover. I had already had 2 band surgeries because of a slip. Every time they go into the stomach for surgery, scar tissue is developed and it makes it harder to have additional surgeries. My Doc said he used to do the revision in 2 surgeries but then it seemed much harder on the patients so now if at all possible, he does it in one. Just another side to the story. Doctors only practice and do it their way.
  19. My doc used to do band removal and then wait for healing and do sleeve. Now if at all possible he does the removal of the band and the sleeve in the same surgery. He said it seems easier on the patient then 2 surgeries and he can usually get the band out pretty fast. My surgery was 3 hours. There is no way I was going to have it in two surgeries. I was only wiling for them to do their best to do the revision in one. And thankfully that is how it went.
  20. My surgeon does a ton of revisions and is at a "center of excellence". He told me that the band removal is extremely low risk out patient. The sleeve is relatively low risk like .1%. If you do both together the risk doubled to like .2% and although is still low he doesn't like to increase on a very low risk procedure even slightly. I am ok with this and agree. I have 2 very young children at home who depend on me and want the most conservative plan. Also I think the band removal is the most painful part and it is nice to separate out the painful from the nausea/restriction issues.
  21. I also have a low BMI.... Dr. had no problem revising to sleeve (May 21, 2015...in 21 days). Actually he said he does so many of these due to the problems. He doesn't so the band anymore. Can't wait.
  22. I've had the band 1.9 yrs.....been throwing up for 1.5 of that time. Having the revision on 21st of MAY! So glad to hear everyone's story. This gives me hope..... ready to do it!
  23. My revision is May 21st..... happy to have a buddy! Lisa

    Bypass or sleeve

I'm on the fence with this as well. On one hand, the sleeve is very appealing to me because I can eat more "normal" foods after surgery. However, there are significant cons: me going back to old habits, lack of long-term studies on its effectiveness, and potential revision to a full bypass later on (read that about 10% of people who do sleeve eventually get full bypass). On the other is the full bypass. This would force me to make permanent healthy changes in my life- and that to me is what this surgery/journey is about (like what @@TLW said). There's long-term data available to show its effectiveness and risks/complications are well documented. Your surgeon should also be able to help give you guidance as to what you choose based on their expertise. Then there's the insurance too- they may only cover 1 or 2 of the potential surgeries!

    Lap Band Revison NO RESTRICTION!

@@Stacy Warner I don't blame you for wanting better restriction, but you're only a couple months post op ( for the revision ). Having the restriction you describe immediately after surgery the first time isn't the norm I read/see on here. Possibly that could have been a reason for the slip? Maybe you could ask your doctor to give you a fill using fluoroscopy if they have it available. That way he can SEE what your restriction looks like, instead of just guessing. Much, MUCH better than blind fills....and in the end, probably cheaper. Best wishes!
