5 oz of protein OR 10 cookies

It's so frustrating that the two things I MUST have, water and protein, are the hardest. I ate cheesecake and mac and cheese yesterday. It was so easy. Fortunately, I felt a little sick after a few bites of the CC. im only four weeks out, and I'm horrified at the realization that I had 80% of my HEALTHY stomach removed, yet it won't make a difference if I don't get a mental handle on this. Im still plenty restricted but it's getting easier every day. I'm looking for a therapist this week.
  2. I had my surgery on 04/09/19. Before the surgery I was 265 at my 1 week post op I was 243 but two weeks after when I weighed myself it’s say 250 am not sure what exactly is going on, like am really losing my mind . I had to stop taking my vitamins because they wouldn’t stay down so my doctor asked me to stop taking them until am ready I to take the in 4 weeks. Did anyone going through this.

    My first stuck episode

Hi, I had my second fill last monday, I now have 7cc's in my 14 cc band. I too got stuck and it is the worst feeling ever! Thankfully the pain went away after an hour maybe 2... after approx. 3 days of getting stuck i realized that waiting as long as 10 minutes between bites helped alot. My life was miserable after my second fill, so bad that i wanted to go back in and get an unfill... These past 2 days have been great, i just hope things stay this way >_<. oh! before my second fill i was bale to eat bread and now i can't... have you noticed any changes (aside from restriction) after your second fill? I sometimes "slime" as well but have never had to throw up. I really hope you start feeling better soon! hugs Ps. I know 10 minutes between bites sounds to extreme, but that's what i was told to do.... how long do you wait?

    Extra skin questions

Let me start off by saying I'm pre op. My surgery is in a week. That said, I have a mother's apron from being overweight and having 3 c-sections. I struggled for years with random issues from it. My suggestion is a little unorthodox but it's never failed me and I've never had any sort of issue or infection since then. Keep an open mind... Stick a thin sock between the skin fold. Seriously. It keeps it dry. If you don't trust me just give it a try. My Dr thought it was genius. You're welcome!

    Broke my stall!!!

I too stalled. On track until I saw dietitian, a month ago and at that stage I was loosing too much too quick, then I have just spent the last month loosing very little and four days at a time on same weight. Disappointed. Had my appointment with diabetic specialist this time last week and he gave me a script for refilled pen to take one day, once a week. He said my body hadn’t caught up. One injection and I have started to move again in the right direction. Also I now have to get thyroid checked out. I had heard about stalls but I think we have done the right thing and it just takes time for mind and body to adjust and change our ways. A slow process but well worth it in the long run.
  6. I had "buyer's remorse" the first couple of weeks. It's common - and people usually get over that pretty quickly. a lot of women notice crazy hormones the first few weeks or months of surgery (weird menstrual cycles and emotions all over the place). It's because estrogen is stored in fat cells, and it's released during rapid weight loss. It'll stabilize once your weight loss slows down.

    where's my period?

I just got on the forum to see if I could find out anything about periods and stumbled on this post. I was sleeved on 10/23, and I'm down 50 pounds :-). I'm also in ketosis, but I'm having the opposite problem with my period. I've had three periods in the last month and a half. Any input would be great because I've always had normal monthly periods. It's frustrating because I'm breaking out with pimples on my neck and back, and it stalls my weight loss. Thanks for your help!
  8. Part of this message is me rejoining this community, part of it is seeing what's in my profile signature., I used to have a weigh loss results bar in there. I had my surgery in 2009, almost a year after my wife did. Having a built in support partner helps. I went from around 270 to 195 in well less than a year. A large part of it was this surgery and the nutritional information. Another part of of it was re-discovering my love of running. I still had running a marathon on my bucket list when I had the surgery and I ran it in 2011 in just over 4 hours. I ended up doing six more. Life was good, my wife and I were even used in commercials as sucess stories by the Bariatric Department of The Ohio State University I will mention my wife though I looked too thin at 195, so I did go to 210 during my marathons. But after 2013 my back began to fail and I had spinal fusion surgery. That slowed me down for a year or or more, but my weight crept up about 10 pounds a year until last May 7th, I got back from a 7 day Caribbean cruise. While I only gained 1 pound on that cruise it was a new post surgery high of 244. I imediately scheduled an appointment with my clinic/hospital. Backn in 2009 I had 3ccs put into a 10cc band and never had it changed. On my visit back I had .25cc added and have lost 13 pounds in about 2 weeks. Here we go again.

    Entering the Mushy Zone

Sounds like you are doing really well. Congrats. You got protein in 3 times today so that is fabulous. Keep up the good work. Mushy stage is okay. Just keep with the soft proteins and chew chew chew.
  10. Hi Cocoa, Yep, I've checked with my insurance. They require a BMI of 40 or 35 with co morbidities, of which I have high blood pressure, poor joints and some emotional affects of the poor self image (those are their "insurance" terms). I've battled my weight for almost 15 years with a long history of Weight Watchers, Atkins, South Beach, Optifast etc. I'm also required to have a 6 month medically supervised diet which I officially started last week. I'm hoping they take my weight on Wednesday as my insurance qualifiying weight. I'm also hoping I measure 5'2" instead of 5'3". Re-reading my words here almost makes me chuckle because it all seems so comical just to become healthy and happy. The one thing I'm certain of is that no stress will hinder my appetite so I'm gonna give it my all over the next couple of days. I've been told to drink alot of Water prior to my appointment and wear the heavy clothes. Keep your fingers crossed!
  11. Hi I am also having the gas pain you are. It is so uncomfortable and hard some times to pass. I've had those oops moments too. I am also 3 days post op. Walking helps me but so does laying down some times. Then the gas comes from burping which makes my stomach feel tons better. I hope you the best of luck on your journey, the one thing I miss is FLAVOR...
  12. Hi! Haven’t made any personal posts in some time… I’m one week shy of my bandiversary, 5/19/11. I went from 349 pounds down to 202.8 (-146.2). I arrived at my lowest in December and haven’t lost anymore. I have maintained or stayed between the same 5 pounds since that time. My ultimate goal is to get to 165 and maintain and I know I’ll get there… Here’s my dilemma…I’ve been bingeing on slider foods for the past few weeks and I put on 10 pounds!!! It’s always been really easy for me to gain or lose weight…. Since losing weight and for the most part, ceased from abusing food (until recently) I’ve had to deal with my problems like a normal person. If I don’t drown my issues with food then I have to feel/deal with them and they hurt L…I guess it’s new for me because I never dealt with these issues in the past, I just kept eating them away. Being super obese made me invisible from the opposite sex and now that I’m visible – I’ve been putting myself out there…but with that comes a lot of self esteem issues…I think a lot of bad thoughts about myself if a guy doesn’t reciprocate feelings or attraction to me…this sucks but I’m trying to deal with it… In the meantime I’m over here stuffing my face and getting depressed… Please, if anyone understands and can over any words of encouragement I really need something to click for me… Thanks…. Rebecca (feeling lost and alone)

    Needing Encouragement

Rebecca, let me start off by saying....WOW. That is amazing!! It takes alot of effort, work, determination and motivation to get where you are now. I think you have hit a plateau with your band and a fill for you would be the ideal thing. Since you will be getting your fill in a couple of weeks, I am sure that will jumpstart your weight loss again. I am sure you are a beautiful person inside, and now you're showing it on the outside. Heck, I'm sure you were a beautiful person on the outside even as the former-lap band you! Don't be depressed...as for the opposite sex, it's tough as it is to get to know guys and you'll have to face dilemmas with feelings and emotions regardless of size. You have come this far...and you can pick it right up with a smile on your face and some motivation. You are so close to your ultimate goal. I know you can do it!!

    Sleeve or Band??

it is very difficult to answer this question, remember you are on a sleeve board. wls is very personal. never go to a surgeon that only does one or 2 surgery types as they will sway you the way of the surgeries they perform, example rny and band. also remember that information you recieve really should be of 5+ years as before that it is really the honeymoon phase, those experiences are very different as I had no issue with the band before 6+ years. The band has excellent short term results but the worse long term complications of all wls (band, sleeve, rny, and DS) I had the band going on 8 years, got down to 125lbs, excellent results no issues whatsoever but in my 7th year it was like a snowball no matter what the surgeon or I did there was jsut no fixing it, so permanent band explantation last week. I believe the band is great for short term only there should be a time limit on it like 2 years or whatever that time limit is, the allergan rx for drs specifically states it is not a permanent implant. I am waiting insurance info for my sleeve, found out wednesday they denied me, i was expecting that, now just have to wait to see why the denied me as they would not tell me on the phone, investigationa/experimental is an oldie but goodie for bcbs, but i will appeal. keep researching and talk to both sides that have been out 5+ years, for the sleeve talking to DS patients that were stagged is a good start. So your question is not easy to answer. hope that helps....good luck in your choice it is not an easy one to make when you take everything into consideration. Mila
  15. Well, I have been on full liquids for one week and have two more to go (Oct 5 is my next app. when they will switch me to mushies) and I have to tell you, I now HATE chocolate shakes! Someone replied to a previous post about adding SF FF pudding mix to your shake to thicken it up a little (I can't drink watery shakes) so today I added SF FF Cheesecake flavored pudding to my shake and I am saved. Chocolate cheesecake - Yum. 1 Scoop 100% whey protien powder in chocolate 1 to 1 1/2 tsp SF FF Cheesecake flavored pudding (Jello) 1 cup Carb Countdown Fat Free Milk Blend and enjoy! Does anyone else have any good ideas on how to make these things drinkable? recipes would be appreciated. Thanks,
  16. Barbiegirl . I have similar story . Banded in 2011 and band slipped in dec2014 . Got liquid out and was waiting for insurance to remove band but then the complications got worst .I had emergency surgery in end of jan2015 . He left port in and he told me I can re-do in 90 days .if I decide not to do it anymore he will just remove port it's a 20 min procedure . As for insurance he said they should cover because it's a complication and its a continuation of a surgery . The question is do I want to do the surgery again? Since the removal I have been at gym 5 days a week and with a trainer 4 of those days . Eating good but my weight is going up . My trainer is baffled he thinks am cheating but I am not .
  17. I just drank alot of protein shakes and apple juice cut with water up up to the 3 week mark. I feel the same way you do. I am cautious of what I eat and the amount of what I eat. Plus I dont chug any fluids either cause the better I let it heal the better off in the long run its going to be. I totally took my time with my progression
  18. Hello Lisa, First of all I'm going to suggest you don't get a fill to a 5 , only because you have a hard time at a 5. Start at a 4 wait your 6 weeks and see how you do. You are not suppose to throw up and you should still be able to eat just not as much. You know 5 does not work for you so why put yourself through this again. Your only going to keep flip flopping over and over again. Even now I have days I can eat more than other days. Sometimes the band is swollen especially on those monthly monster days. Am I mentally hungry or physically hungry. Thats the question you need to ask yourself. When you know Its mental you need to have a plan set in, have something you enjoy and go do that 1 thing. Everyday is a new day, old habits can become just that old...make efforts to change them bad habits into good habits. Its not a one day process but keep trying them until you accomplish them. You can do this!!! You are beautiful and you deserve a healthy life!!!!
  19. The goal is 1- pounds a week so you are on track we all want more so I undestand but that's a great loss! With the fill my Dr. started with 2 cc then added 2 more going from 0 to 5 cc isnt the right way to do it I had one overfill and it was awful o ask them to increase 1 cc at a time a .5 cc makes a world of difference!

    Crazy gases!

it will go away i promise - mine came about day 3 after surgery and finally left about day 8 - worse 5 days ever - definitely the worst part of the whole thing - the surgery was a breeze compared to the pain of the gas after. Best of luck.

    Crazy gases!

Hello all!! I too was banded July 13th and this is what has helped me : -gas x strips (NO) didn't work for me, but may for u. One reason is because these strips are meant to move gas trapped INSIDE the intestines, well our gas isn't trapped in the intestines -after I took pain medicine, I would pull my knees up to my chest as far as they would go! This got things moving! -fetal position and rocked-this too got things moving -just sit on the toilet and move around ...think "channeling the poot" lol!! -massage your stomach and surrounding areas! -HEATING PAD! (Now this one, especially with my back was GOD SENT! lol) After day 3-4 Im still having a small amount, but my stomach isn't as bloated! Good luck to u!
  23. So, I've been banded about 2 weeks and a few days. I've been doing all the Protein shakes blah blah.. But I'm sick of starving myself! It's time to eat. Who's going to eat with me? I need a support buddy. - ahaha.. Seriously, I'm suppose to go until Jan 1st until my first fill?? I'm told.. that I will still be hungry even after that! I'm going to enjoy Christmas. - Gotta go... It's time for a hambooger and dr pepper, chocoate cake for dessert. Mmmmmmm Frustrated and no more patience!
  24. Thanks everyone. I really appreciate your help. I ended up going to sleep last night not feeling well. I felt slightly better when I woke up but quickly turned back to what I was experiencing last night. Has anyone ever had maybe eggs mushed up or cream of wheat watered down before the end of the first week? Im also hypoglycemic so I have no idea if that is whats going on as well. Its frustrating but I know it will get better.
  25. It's officially done! Day 1 was a little rough till I got rid of the gas then the only painful area were the 2 largest incisions and they aren't all that bad. That being said, I was served Breakfast, lunch and dinner. All containing broth, Jello, tea,and crystal light. I had no idea how much to eat- I couldn't tell between the incisions, the pain from th gas or hunger/thirst. So I had only 3 spoons of broth, 2 of jello and a few sips of crystals light. It took me 2 minutes to do that because I was so cautious. So I'm wondering- how did you guys handle your first few meals and how much did you have?
