Working out and eating too much
catwoman7 replied to MaureenA's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm definitely hungrier when I've been doing intense exercise - and Crossfit is intense! Your body is burning up a ton of calories with that - so you'll have to find the balance where your body is getting what it needs - and you continue to lose weight. I agree with the person who suggested you have a chat with your dietitian. I don't think 1600-1700/cal a day for someone doing CrossFit 4x a week is too much, though. Are you still losing weight? If so, this may not be a problem. But talk with your dietitian. -
September Surgery Buddies!!
Squidgy101 replied to happilylacey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my op 15 Sept - and was doing so well for the first 3 months. Weight loss slowed in Dec and on a stall since Jan. I started at 93Kg - and sat at 73Kg. So lost around 44lbs. I have at least another 10Kg to go - but am also worried about the length. Feel like it just stopped working. Other seems to have lost double and who started at same weight so a bit disheartened ☹️Will need to see dietician. -
Bypass revision after sleeve? 8 years post op Sleeve
GreenTealael replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi! I was sleeved in 2017 and converted to bypass in 2019. 1) Your reasons for conversion from the sleeve to bypass. I wish I did the revision as soon as my symptoms started (GERD) Instead of waiting couple years but I didn’t understand that I was actually experiencing GERD. I just kept trying to rework my diet to see if the symptoms never occurred to me it was something that I could not fit without surgical intervention. 2) What was the post op period like compared with sleeve? It was a easier than when I was sleeved, I don’t know why but I’m grateful 3) What is the best and worst part of having the bypass? To me the bypass is almost exactly like having sleeved, I can’t tell the difference Until I remember the difference in restrictive feelings during eating. With a slave restriction was high in my chest almost near my throat. With the bypass I feel the heaviness disinterest in food. Some days if I eat and dryer proteins source (like grilled chicken breast) I can feel both types of restrictions. 4) Any dumping issues? Yes I do experience dumping although it’s well managed now. I do have a few additional food restrictions than I did it with the sleeve. I cannot eat really sweet things. Or if I do it is literally one bite and I’m done. I rather not feel terrible over food if I can prevent it. -
20 pounds in two months
Zerofuckstogive70 replied to vania's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OMG me too 8 weeks post op and 22 pounds down I’m so confused. HW: 275 pre-surg w: 257 CW: 235 shouldn’t I have lost more weight by now? I’ve been exercising and working with a personal trainer everyday for the last 3 weeks. I’m really more sure if I’ve stalled? If the sleeve has failed or if I’m right on track. So frustrating. Please help. -
Bypass revision after sleeve? 8 years post op Sleeve
Tufflaw replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was sleeved in Dec. 2016 and did extremely well at first - I dropped about 120 lbs in about 6 months, reaching my goal weight. I had some personal/professional issues including losing my job, starting and losing my business, health issues with my kids, etc. and I slacked off and just started eating like crap again and gained almost all the weight back. I had GERD both before and after the surgery but was maintaining it with esomeprazole. I got the revision to bypass in Nov, 2021 and as of today am down a little over 65 lbs. and the GERD is gone. As for your questions: 1) Your reasons for conversion from the sleeve to bypass. - My doctor said I was eligible for a second surgery and that he needed to do an endoscopy to see if the sleeve was dilatated (enlarged). If it was, I could resleeve or switch to bypass. If it wasn't, I'd have to go with bypass. They checked and it was enlarged so I could get either one but he recommended the bypass due to the GERD and potential future complications with long term use of the medication or effects to my esophagus from the GERD. 2) What was the post op period like compared with sleeve? - About the same. I think I felt a little worse right after the surgery because it was longer. My sleeve surgery was 26 minutes, the bypass was about 3 hours. It was supposed to be a little over an hour but there was an issue with one of the stapling devices not being able to reach a certain area so the doctor had to suture by hand which took longer. I believe I felt much groggier and a little more nauseous, but after the first day it was pretty much the same as the first time. 3) What is the best and worst part of having the bypass? - Best part is losing weight again and feeling healthier. Worst part was having to go through the surgery again due to my own screw up. Also this time they put a drain in my stomach for a week which wasn't fun. 4) Any dumping issues? - Not even once. -
If you had had surgery in my program, and we assume you're a woman, you would've been recommended to go from 1200/day to 1600/day at the 6-month mark. And that's with mild, 30 min a day, exercise. They do this to make sure your metabolism doesn't get used to living on nothing (the Harvard Health Biggest Loser Study does confirm our metabolism has the ability to get a lot more efficient, aka able to live on little). So maybe you're doing it exactly right! Edit: I eat on average 2600-2800 a day with daily light exercise + lifting and HIIT training 2-3x week on top of that, and I'm adding to the higher end of that right now because I don't want to lose anymore. Just to give some perspective.

March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I definitely understand how you feel my friends and family eat regular foods around me and it makes me sad sometimes because i have to be on liquid diet for 2 weeks but just know eventually you will get to eat the same things they eat . Keep trying to find food that you can. Tolerate that make you full that’s what i was told certain light food might not fill you up but meat and cheese dishes might or something similar . So keep trying until you find something and know that we all are going through the same thing it’s very difficult but it’s so worth it. -

Isn’t that weird? I find it very strange. My dr said I should be on soups until next week, then soft Solids. I swear, I’ve been told 2 different not things by my dr. Office. I made puréed chili and cheese, was able to sip 6 oz, and finally felt full. That felt amazing. -
Bypass revision after sleeve? 8 years post op Sleeve
Tink22-sleeve posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi All, I am about 8 years out from a sleeve. Overall, happy. But often in the middle of the night I wake up, literally chocking on acid from GERD that developed immediately after the sleeve surgery. I am looking to talk to people who have had a sleeve and then converted to bypass. Would you please share with me: 1) Your reasons for conversion from the sleeve to bypass. 2) What was the post op period like compared with sleeve? 3) What is the best and worst part of having the bypass? 4) Any dumping issues? Thanks so much! -

Hello, any veterens around?
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
No mostly just GERD. I never made it to my goal weight with the band, so hoping to lose more weight with the revision. I just had my first appointment about a month ago to start the process, and I have one more visit with the dietician next week and then I see the surgeon for a pre op visit and I'll get my date then. We're thinking it might work out for the end of April tho. -

Hi everyone, I was sleeved 3/1/2022…. Which makes me 8 days out. Any 3/1 people? I got some funny stuff going on with my situation. I was told after day 3 I could go on soft solid. So far, pureeing stuff is my favorite thing to do. Love it so much, but I still feel hungry. I’ve tried chicken so far, and it didn’t go down well. amd sometimes I still feel hungry, and I have yet to know what feeling “full” feels like. Ughhh…. Can’t eat ice because I got braces 4 days before surgery. So literally, my food choices are limited. -
Why am I craving this particular food? (Food mention trigger warning)

Dang it! I've given up sodas and margaritas!! No problem hijacking the thread. It's nice to have some friendly banter. I hope my body is not decided it's done losing. I'm like 2 lbs from Onderland. I'd be happy with another 15 lb loss. I could be at peace there I think. I see my doctor in another 2 weeks for the one year visit. I'll ask him. He'll tell me it's head hunger, I bet. Prob is. Thanks, everyone! -

3. The hormonal/metabolic intervention from cutting out a major part of the stomach, but not otherwise altering the gut hormones, may mean some people's weight set point creeps back up and then you have regain. Keep in mind, statistically we will gain weight back from our lowest point, I'm very mindful of that clocking in at 192 today. But it does seem sleevers on average gain more weight back, faster. -

1 week away from changing my life
wendyrlandry replied to wendyrlandry's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I got the isopure unflavored powder and the premier protein peach water. Both make me gag and the powder mixed with water made me throw up. I don't know what i am going to do for the next week. I am sitting in my office with the door closed crying because i am so hungry and the only think i have is that protein water & powder, 1 can of broth, and 1 small thing of jello. This is going to be the longest week if i have to live off of broth and jello only. I'm already super weak, i can only imagine how much weaker ill get not having the right amount of protein. -

Me! March 1, I’m one week out today -
Hey, so I am in the early process of the getting the sleeve done. I have two more "supervised weight loss" appointments and my anxiety is through the roof. As a requirement for my insurance, I cannot gain any weight. I go next week for my weigh in and obsessing over it. I was down 8 pounds, and now I am down 5 pounds, but I still have six days to go. And then I cannot gain any weight from the previous weigh in. Anyone else feel stressed about this requirement? The whole point of the surgery is because we cannot lose weight easily or even maintain the weight. Any advice?

Its been 14 weeks since my surgery and I have finally been able to eat chicken. I feel overjoyed and empowered. I wanted to do a lap around my living room. I could cry, its been soul destroying to keep trying it and failing. I made a mild Thai broth for the family with chicken drumsticks and peppers, mushrooms, potato and beansprouts. They had it with noodles. I just had a drumstick and some broth it was heavenly. The old woman is catching up Whoop Whoop
