Hi there! I am pretty new to this since I was recently banded, but I have "the rules" fresh in my head, so maybe I can help you. As far as your weight loss stall, have you had a fill at all? If so, how many CC's and how much food are you able to eat? What my doctor wants from me once I start to have fills is to be able to eat 4 ounces of food and be comfortable for 3-4 hours, are you able to do this? Also, do you work out? If you do, maybe it is time to change up your exercises. They say that you should change it up every 8 weeks, so you keep burning as many calories as possible. Hopefully this helps you in some way, let me know how it goes.

Hi Sandi, I'm in Pennsylvania...where are you? I'm not having a problem with wanting to eat anymore, probably because I have been on a 6 month diet (insurance company made me do it  ) But it was a good thing, taught me to eat smaller meals and exercise. My doctor has his patients do a 2 week preop liquid diet. On my last week of that until after my surgery then it's back on for a week or two. But it's so worth it. I'm not the least bit nervous but I've been having weird weird dreams and not about the surgery but after I lose all the weight the skin on my arms is hanging so low it's dragging on the ground. Weird right. Good luck Sandi and congrats 123 Do either of you know how to add the tracker and and all those other things that I see on some other post?

Banding isn't a quick fix like the other WLS's. It requires patience and commitment. It took me 4yrs to lose ~100lbs. I'd requested a slower course of fills because I had to have many (too many) ortho surgeries from a fall ~ a week before my WLS & I wanted to be sure to have enough nutrients to heal well. Then one day, there I was, 100 lbs lighter. I've seen bandsters on here who've lost a significant amount of weight a lot quicker. Others, like me took longer. Everyone's different. You'll get there.

Two part question...need input
2muchfun replied to jennygirl37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, that's technically not totally accurate? 1 lb of fat weights the same as 1 lb of muscle. Muscle is far more dense so 1 lb of muscle will occupy less space than 1 lb of fat. -

Breaking out of a plateau sometimes requires changing something. I know that more than 1200 calories a day would stop me losing weight and those calories had to be good calories, its not just about counting them its about how they are made up, try reducing them by around 200 a day and see if that makes a difference, also change up the exercise, if u are only doing cardio then do some strength training and vice versa, change things till u get results then stick to it. Good luck -

I am struggling with the same things! I haven't quite hit the green zone (hopefully after next fill in May) but late afternoon/ early evening I just want to eat! I started trying to drink more fluids when I feel hungry and sometimes it helps. I have also been on a plateau for 2 1/2 months now. I keeping gaining and losing the same 3 lbs over and over. I started really tracking what I'm eating on an app on my phone and I think I may have been taking in more calories than I thought before. I am still feeling discouraged, but also have a glimmer of hope again that my tracking will help me push past this plateau. Good luck to you! Keep up the good work with your fitness! -
This is probably a good question for the lady veterans out there. Call me vain if you must but I am really worried about what losing a lot of weight over a short time will do to my face. You know every big girl has heard it, what a pretty face, well I don't want to suddenly be smaller with a wrinkled or sagging face? Any tips or products that you could suggest would be greatly appreciated . Thanks Ladies!

Post op, swelling and large weight gain
Briswife15 replied to kstein01's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi! I hear ya! Had RNY last Wednesday and gained 10 pounds of fluid in the hospital! I have just about gotten down to my surgery weight. I have a severe pain on the left side under my ribcage that really hurts when I breathe. However, I'm doing better than I expected, am hitting 90 ounces of fluids a day, taking vitamins, and trying to walk every day. I'm pretty excited I had it done, too! Beaking all the rules!
JaxBandster replied to Pinklady's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Food/carb addiction is as devious as any other addiction. You are off the wagon and need to get back on. I think Jane had good advice. Find an OA or other support group to help you get back on track. Trust me, I have lost a large amount of weight only to put it back on and felt the lack of self esteem and dissappointment that comes along with it. Don't waste all the time, energy and money you have spent to lose such a large amount of weight. Time to get re-determined and re-motivated. You don't want to feel the way you used to when you had that 100 lbs on your body. If you have kept a journal, go back and read it. Remember the pain and sadness of being obese. Sometimes you have to go back to go forward. I really wish you the very best. Good luck. -
Knee's Hurt Bad, Advice
honk replied to ☠carolinagirl☠'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I personally avoid NSAIDs like the plague. I was on a perscription strength for over a year and had a STROKE at 39. Research has since showed high levels of NSAID usage can lead to higher likelyhood of blood clots. My first Ortho while an A!@#)^% was correct when he said "Your knee won't stop hurting until you loose the weight." After my stroke I went to another doctor who ended up perscribing a product called Synvisc which is a series of 3 injections which is like this gel that expands within the knee joint. If my first doctor had given me those shots instead of the NSAID maybe I would'nt have had a stroke. Now that I've lost quite a bit of weight I have very limited knee pain and don't need the injections. -
Knee's Hurt Bad, Advice
icestorm12132008 replied to ☠carolinagirl☠'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
as the weight comes off the pressure on the knee joint should be reduced. Until then I would suggest doing water aerobics if you can? -
Please someone help me!

Do some research on hypothyroidism on the internet. You'll find that those of us whose thyroids don't work correctly are frequently overweight, depressed, and have fuzzy thinking. I started taking synthroid several years before being sleeved, and continue to take it now. I'm not a Dr. but I think it will make losing weight easier than without it. Synthroid definitely helps with your energy level, but it does take a long time of frequent blood testing to get the proper dosage dialed in so prepare. -
Do you still enjoy food after lapband...
NJGirl32 replied to Band. James Band.'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If I am being honest I would have to say I don't enjoy it as much, but still to some degree! Now I have o be careful of what I order and worry how it might go down. Food is now a deliberate choice I make instead of mindless eating-which is good. I am so intuned with my body-I can feel the food go down and when it goes into my stomache. I can tell when I lose weight even if it's only a pound. The lapband has taken some of the joy out of eating-but I am grateful for that. -
I love hearing stories like yours! It's not only the weight it's all of the other little things that come along with it. All of the excess weight really took its toll on my body and I know it does for a lot of other people. I realize that more every single day as I keep losing weight. The more I lose the more I notice that every pound improves another aspect of my life. I need to remind myself of all the benefits other than weight/size when I get down but it can be hard in those moments. I'm sticking it out and trying to have open conversations with friends about it but I think I'll also be moving forward with seeing a counselor to wrap my head around everything I'm feeling.

YES!!! I have!! Like you I had tried many many different diets and would always gain back even more than I had lost. I had my RNY July 2, 2013. I had problems starting like right after my surgery but...I thought it was normal. I had 5 Endoscopes with 4 dilations. I lost 132#'s in 6 months. I had a small gain. And then I maintained my weight of 125-129 for 3 and 1/2 years. I was on insulin 2 times a day 100units and Metformin for my Diabetes. Also, I took 12 different medication. Now I am off all diabetic meds and I only take 4 meds now plus my vitamins. My health has improved so much it is almost like day and night. I can now exercise, I walk 3 to 4 miles 3 to 4 times a week. I no way had the problems you've had for sure. Thank Goodness it is in your past. May you get everything your heart desires. Hang tight!!

14 days out and I feel...
mb20mom replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good to hear! And it's great that you posted that because it just reinforces to the newbies that it DOES get better. I think it's so important that everyone hears that message. It's amazing that so many of us felt the exact same way early out. You are going to be looking great in no time! I just got a call from Dr. Zane's office for a follow up appt. next month. I'm still so surprised at how organized they are with seeing so many patients...somehow I didn't expect to hear from them again with all that I've heard about the volume of cases they've had. I feel like bringing him a gift of appreciation for changing people's lives! This experience has been a dream come true for me. I still have a feeling of expecting the weight to come back but it never does. It's odd getting used to "normal". Keep us posted on your success! Congrats! -
Your body is going through the changes of an intense work out.. you weren't losing because your muscles were building to burn more fat, this is a GREAT thing! I was expecting your post to say "I gained weight!" - which is very typical in this type of situation with intense workouts like boxing. (I kickbox myself.) I would recommend using protein smoothies to supplement your protein..you can make the same smoothie with as much protein as you want without altering the taste too much, especially if you're using greek yogurt like Fage 0% as base, which has 20 grams of protein, mixed with some protein powder (mine is 20 per scoop) add 2 scoops and you're already at 60 grams, plus 8 from the skim milk, etc.. it's a very easy and delicious way to boost your protein, stay full and stay cool during the summer time as well. Overall the chances are you probably weren't eating enough and/or your body was adjusting to the new routine, without seeing your food journal or what you've been eating, its hard to say. But I hope that helped, all the best to you!

How many fills did it take till everything felt just right?
ellendeette replied to Heatherooni's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you for your response. I really enjoyed your description of the "ideal restriction." I feel the verysame way. I have not seen it described the way you have described it. I had my first fill a month or so ago and I felt even less restriction. I cannot get my second fill until September 4 because my surgeon is going on vacation in August. My surgeon told our support group that he believes restriction from the lap band begins on the second fill. I weighed myself last night at the gym and I GAINED 5 pounds! I cannot believe it. I thought I was eating somewhat more in volume but 5 POUNDS! My surgeon also said at that support meeting that the lap band takes time to really kick in with restriction and fullness. I had my appetite taken away at the time of the surgery and placement of the band but I notice that the fills are the tools that restrict you later. I had my friend at work calculate your weight loss from kilograms to pounds. Excellent loss! You obviously are doing things right and I will watch out for your future posts. I need all the help and support I can get. -
How many fills did it take till everything felt just right?
ellendeette replied to Heatherooni's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with Julie. I felt pressured to have my first fill despite that I was losing weight. After my first fill, I have not lost ANY WEIGHT. In fact, I gained a few pounds. My bariatric surgeon said at a support group meeting (weeks after my first fill) that he doesn't not expect any restriction of food until the second fill! My second fill is in a couple of weeks and I'm looking forward to it and to start losing weight again. I would suggest not having a fill until you start slowing down with losing weight or stop losing weight. If I had to do it all over again. That is what I would do. I am not craving food but I have little to none restriction on the amount of food. To succeed with weight loss, we need the added tool of restriction with a fill. -
How many fills did it take till everything felt just right?
ellendeette replied to Heatherooni's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My bariatric surgeon spoke at our support group last week and he says that it takes the second fill before we feel any restriction. I did not feel absolutely no difference with my first fill. I have my second fill in September. Hang in there! Please let me know if and when you feel any restriction. My surgery appears to make me feel full and took away cravings. I am hopeful that the fills will give us restriction and allow us to eat smaller amounts of food and lose weight. -
I am very interested in getting the lapband surgery as soon as I can get my finances in place. I live in Canada and will have to pay $16000. I also have convinced my husband that he needs to do it with me. We can get some money back on income tax and a bit of a discount for two of us. I have a consultation appointment at Toronto Lapband Surgery Centre, TLBC, on Nov. 27. I want to book surgery immediately after that. The burning question in my mind is "Is this the solution that will work forever?" I have dieted so many times and gained it back again. I have also spent so much money on diet plans, pills, etc. It seems like a miracle that lapband will finally get me to the weight I need to be and be able to maintain it. I am ready to focus all my energy on the diet and exercise part of lapband. I just am worried that I can hijack my own efforts if I start eating unwisely again. :phanvan

So I just joined FitnessPal.com. One of my friends recommended it in order to help me get out of my stall. She told me that maybe I am not getting enough protein and this app will tell me exactly how much protein I am getting. Anyways I notice that a lot of people here have joined FitnessPal so I had a question. Does the app give predictions on how much weight u will loose following your food plan? Or do I have to upgrade to premium for that? I use to do food diary.com a few years ago and what I liked about that website is that it would give me a prediction on how much weight I would loose after a certain amount of time. Also is there anyway that I can change the recommended calorie intake? Obviously I cannot eat the recommended 1500 calories that they say I have to eat. Every time I input my food log it tells gives me a warning that I am not eating enough calories. Or is there another bariatric friendly app I can use?
