  1. Thank you sooooo much for you encouraging words. This isnt the first time my family hasnt supported me in major decisions I have made. About 5 years ago(i'm a therapist) I decided to become a traveling therapist where I would take different assignment for 13 weeks throughout the country and all i had to do was pack my bags and go.. My companies paid for my lodging. My family had a fit. I did that for 2 years and have never regretted it. I'm like the black sheep though, I'm the youngest, but most adventurous! So it really is no surprize they arent supporting me. ASK ME IF I CARE ANYMORE! I have the 2 friends that i've decided to share this with and they support me 100%. They have seen all the times i've tried and failed at losing weight, and yet love me inspite of it. I am getting to the point where I can admit that I use food for comfort, when i'm bored or just cuz i see it! So I'm looking forward to my first consultation on april 7th and looking forward to moving full steam ahead. I hope to be banded by late spring, since I dont have to go through the insurance hoops. Thanks a million. Jennifer

    Pureed Phase

I wasn't allowed crackers until the soft phase (last week) and even then, I was hesistant. I just tried them over the weekend and didn't have any problems. I made refried bean soup on my pureed phase and it was delicious, felt like I struck gold when I found something other than hot cereal! I got the recipe from the lapband.com.

    Extremely Nervous...

I had Medicare, so they didn't require a 6 mth diet. So I had surgery exactly 3 weeks from my seminar. I also didn't have a pre op diet (which is rare). I was just told to eat a lite dinner the night before and nothing after midnight. I went to outback for ribs - thats what I considered lite back then! I stayed 1 nite in the hospital (required by Medicare) - your insurance will tell you whether you have to stay or can do OP. The pain was bearable - I had my liquid Vicodin, which I got refilled once. I don't work, but if I did, I think I would've been ready to go back after 1 week for a sitting job, maybe 2 for a more physical one. My pre op diet sucked. I misread my booklet and thought it said 4 weeks of clear liquids and Protein Shakes. I literally starved the first 2 weeks, till I added tomato Soup (thought I was cheating and didn't ell my dr). Come to find out after many month and after re reading my post op directions, I was sposed to be on full liquids for 4 weeks (to include cream Soups, yogurt, pudding) and I wasn't cheating at all! After 3 weeks of liquids only, I cheated and added mashed potatoes. The best thing I ever had. I could've bought stock in KFC! Please don't make the same mistakes as I did tho - my first "real" food was Burger King cheeseburger. Ate the whole thing and felt nothing. Ate normally (just like pre band) for the first 2 fills and 4 mths. Then came my 3rd fill - it was "MAGIC". That's when I really started losing weight. I eat everything, including bread, rice, Pasta. Alot of people can't tolerate them or are on a low carb diet. The only things my band won't tolerate is pizza crust, pineapple chunks, and pancakes (all the P's!) I just eat very little of it. When I go out for a meal (about 3x a week), I can eat about 1/4 - 1/3 of my meal and the rest comes home with me. I just got my restaurant card in the mail today (make sure you get one from your dr) (I've lost the last 2 I've had) which asks restaurants to serve you smaller portions or the kids menu. They charge you the kids price at buffet - it's really nice since I don't eat $12.00 worth of food - ever! The kids menu isn't very healthy, though, so you really have to be careful. I still go to buffets occasionally, only filling my plate once, taking a couple bites of everything. You'll be fine. We're all anxious before surgery. The pain really isn't all that bad. The worst thing is the liquid diet, but if I can do it, anyone can! Good luck! Marci
  4. Roja, my dr just said for me to drink liquids on sunday but nothing after midnight. But im going to do some drinks anyway and no red meat this week. i seen on youtube of a girl that suffered lots of pain and didn't know why after a couple of days she vomited which she said it could of been stool that was possibly trapped. once she threw it up she was fine. its important to follow the diets before and after so we keep our suffering to a minimum. i am excited for both of us. what hospital r u having ur surgery?
  5. i'm only a few days away from being a month out. i am able to eat and drink without any problems. i've been doing quite well since surgery and have been pain free since about a week after surgery. until now. i've had a normal day.... it's been like any other day for me. i did do some house cleaning, but nothing to major and i took breaks when i felt like i was getting to tired since i know my body is still healing. i finished my house cleaning about 4 hrs ago. however, i just ate a piece of small cheese and about 2-3 mins later, i started to feel this "new" pain. it's on my right side, right under my right breast at the incision site. i dont think that it's the food no agreeing with me - i know that feeling and it's not it. i'm not sure what this is. i'm not in enough pain to call my doctor or go to the ER, but it's uncomfortable. does anyone have an idea of what this could be? i just find it strange that it started within a few mins of eating something small. the piece of cheese was less than 1 oz.

    Exercise question

Those first couple of weeks I didn't exercise either. I started out slowly adding exercise about week 3. I was tired but I knew I needed to exercise so I just did it. Don't give your self an option, make exercise mandatory like showering. It's just something you gotta do and if you find something you like doing then it won't seem so bad. I have fallen in love with running but I mix my workout up with spinning, Zumba, DVD's, running and lifting weights.
  7. Well I started going to the gym and I mean within 24 hours I seen a big decrease in blood sugar levels normally I am around 95 now Im in the 70's. basically I do at least thirty minutes aerobic including swimming. Im just starting out with the gym I hope to eventually go 5 days a week. mainly bicycle machine for 20 minutes then the elliptical machine for only 3 minutes my legs still need a lot of work. Then 4 laps in the pool which is roughly 15 minutes. I am in no rush with exercising because this is part of my lifetime lifestyle change. Basically Ill have some carbs and Protein before I workout then a Protein shake with some carbs for recovery. then almost 1 1/2 hours later I eat protein and veggies. I am still getting this routine down. Are there others just starting out at the gym with any good feedback is very appreciated. Thanks.

    Exercise -- Honest Answers...

At 2 weeks all I was allowed was walking. I would one mile around the track at my gym. Fitness trainer said no machines.

    Surgery 4/13/07 any advice?

I think at some point we have all had the "what have I done" thought but it is by far the best decision I have ever made for myself. The weight loss is slow for me, but I can tell you that I don't think about food like I used to and I feel ten thousand times better than I did pre-surgery. I am 48 lbs lighter and for the first time in years, I am actually looking forward to getting out my summer clothes from last year and not worrying about not being able to fit in them! Good luck .....the first week will be hard but you will get thru it.

    Surgery

mine was in the US and my surgery was at 12 noon and required an overnight stay in the hospital. I am one week post op tomorrow and I feel FANTASTIC! I can't wait until I can see the results....I already feel different!
  11. I felt like sh#t the first month. I am amazed you are on a treadmill already, good for you! That said, do what you can and don't over-do it so that you won't keep it up. 15 minutes is fine. Keep it up and add a little more every week. By 3 months you will be feeling so much better and will be amazed at how much you can do.
  12. I'm excited today because I attended my first information meeting about bariatric surgery at Kiaser. It was informative however I must say a lot of the information I knew because I been researching on this every time a question pops up in my mind. I go tomorrow to my body analysis appointment where they take a picture and weight you prior to beginning the 12 week options program. I can't believe this is all about to get in motion. As a requirement I have to loose 10% of body weight prior to surgery (29lbs) I actually think that will be the most weight I ever lost. Well just wanted to share my journey so far.
  13. Good Luck! It was my original surgery date (and date I wanted for months and months) my surgeon is taking a much needed vacation (I am guessing he he) so I am letting him do that to be completely refreshed when he comes back to me in two weeks!

    Bandster Heck

I refuse to call it 'Bandster Hell' because its really not that bad. Heck, its just like I'm trying to diet like normal (pre-band). I refuse to journal, weigh, and calculate all my food and activity because it gives me bad flashbacks from Weight Watchers. But, I do keep a pretty keen mental awareness of how many grams of protein I am getting in, water, and calories. And, am being diligent about following the band rules. I'm trying to stay under 1500 calories per day and 70+ grams of protein. I've been doing pretty good for the past couple days since NYE and all the holidays are over now. I woke up feeling like I had lost weight this morning so I got on the scale and found that I lost ONE more pound! YAY!!! OK, I was trying not to get on the scale more than once/week and Thursday was gonna be my weigh-in day so I certainly didn't do too well w/that seeing as today is Sunday. Maybe I better go find the SWA group now. LOL :smile2: Oh, I also had an interesting conversation w/the cashier checking me out at the grocery store yesterday. She told me that this year she is going to climb Camelback Mountain... that she's lived here so long and its so beautiful and its about time she did it. Now, this is a short, but strenuous hike (very steep). The beautiful skinny people of Scottsdale run up and down this trail for a workout. I would probably die of cardiac arrest if I tried to even walk up it right now. But, as she said this to me, I quickly replied, 'You know, I think I should do that too.' And, it got me thinking about how much I used to like hiking and how I miss it. I even started looking up trails on the internet. I think I will pick out some easier trails first and work my way up to Camelback Mountain. And, then later this year maybe I can hike Camelback Mountain. And, if I can't make it, then the beautiful skinny people will have to carry me down!
  15. Hi everyone. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on Wednesday, 12/19/12. I came home from the hospital on Friday, 12/21/12. So far, I am still on liquids but I feel soooo full all the time. It's really uncomfortable. I have to force myself to get my Water and Protein in. I am doing my best. My follow-up appointment isn't until 01/03/13 due to the holidays. I live in Cleveland, Ohio and had my surgery done at the Cleveland Clinic. My diet is "self-advancing." So, basically, I have some guidelines and I move along as I feel I am able. I am supposed to stay with liquids for 1-2 weeks and then move on to pureed foods for another 1-2 weeks and then on to soft foods. I really enjoy reading about the menu/food options on this forum because they offer more detail than my guidelines do. Thank you, in advance, for that. So, just a couple of questions... Did anyone else here have surgery on 12/19/12? Did anyone else have surgery at the Cleveland Clinic? Did anyone else experience this fullness I am having? If so, how long does it last? Also, I have a blog where I have been writing about my journey leading up to surgery. Feel free to check it out if you would like... losercoop.blogspot.com Merry Christmas everyone!
  16. So I was sleeved on the 26th am home recovering now (at my moms Who is a nurse from heaven). She's been helping me with EVERYTHING I definitely suggest having someone around for a week after as you will definitely be sore and moving around is rough (even shifting in bed). Have been taking pain Meds to help with the pain and also have not BM'ed since the morning of the day of surgery. Tried a few times but my belly is too sore to push hard enough. Used wind miralax today and still nothing. Anyone have this happen to them also?
  17. So, my surgery is in four hours. 5:30 am 14 May. I really should be resting, but I can't. First, I got up 2:00am 13 May for the nine hour to the hospital. I slept for three hours, and been up since then. I been trying relax, but I can't do it. I'm a little anxious, because of excessive scare tissue, it might not be done. However, I'm sure what to expect if it is. Like, why I'm I really doing this? I fought for over a year w/insurance and being in compliance, now it's here and I'm questioning myself. Has anyone else had these random thoughts prior to surgery? Guess I'll try to rest for four hours, please post any comments. Thank you, VAMP
  18. I also had problems with taking in air when I drink or eat. The first two weeks were hard for me. Lots of pain/discomfort. Now I'm about 2 1/2 mos out from surgery and this rarely happens. Just hang in there. It will get better!
  19. Can anyone help me? I am 6 weeks out and down 50 pounds! I would love to celebrate it, but I am miserable. I am literally on the brink of the worst hunger pains I have ever felt, all day, everyday. My sad attempts to eat just make me feel nauseated. Starving, nauseated, starving again...-all day! This can't go on forever can it? Will I ever turn the corner ? What's wrong with me?

    Finally Have a Date

Congrats. I thought I was going to go insane after waiting three months. You have mighty stamina. I am soooo happy for you.
  22. Well I've been stalling the last couple of weeks, and was a little dissappointed to have missed my march 5th goal, by a whopping 7lb! However upped my Protein again, and today I finally got to onderland, and even if I sound a little self absorbed, it feels sooo good, and I am a little proud of self for getting there. Next Mini goal is 195lb, which is simply "overweight", well I never thought I'd be so excited by the prospect of being overweight, but it sounds so much better than being clinicaly obese, and on the road to morbidly obese, which is where I was until 5th January. I LOVE MY SLEEVE!!!!!!!!

    Another Lurker ~ Newbie!

When I made my ticker, I put in the highest weight I have been, which was at the end of last year. Which was when, I started doing Zumba twice a week and eating lower carbs. In February, I saw my doctor to start my diet/weight monitoring (insurance requirement) and he recommended a reduce calorie diet. Then in March, I started a 6 week course with a Nutritionist (again, part of the insurance requirement) and it just ended last week. SO, long story short, I have lost weight REALLY trying with exercise, reduce calorie/carb intake, and tips/counseling from a Nutritionist. I have done this many times before, but as with everyone else, my weight loss is not sustainable.

    Another Lurker ~ Newbie!

I am excited to say, I am approved for surgery! I really thought BCBSNJ (Direct 10) would write back asking for the full 6 months of diet/nutrition physician counseling since I only did 3 months and corresponding 6 week nutrition class. Of course, I sent them every weight history I could find in a nice little spreadsheet with what diet I was on for each date. Plus a copy of the CURVES diet and their whole exercise schedule for the 2006 year. I am so shocked and surprised! My surgery date is scheduled for 07/06/09 (since I have so much going on in the month of June). I cannot wait!!!!!!!

    Recently banded....

A fill will help if portion size or staying satisfied for less than 3-4 hours is the problem. Unfortunately, if the problem is poor food choices, it won't. If you haven't had a fill at all, but are satisfied with the correct portion size, discuss that with your surgeon's staff. They may tell you that a fill isn't needed or give you a small fill. Do you journal your food intake? It may give you an idea why you aren't losing weight this week. I like to use fitday.com and many people use dailyplate.com. It makes it easy.
