    1st stuck episode....

My doc told me no pasta or breads for 6 months because of that very issue. I guess he wants me to get use to chewing first. He said if anything is going to get stuck it's bread and pasta. Scary. I don't have any restriction yet either. Only 2 weeks out of surgery.

  5. Hi Carla K. I have had quite a bit of trouble with this. Not just where my port is. I had my gallbladder out Jan 8th. I had lapband surgery Feb 8th. It seemed I had trouble with all my incisions. I tried to wear a bra 3 weeks after gallbladder surgery. This really irritated two of my puncture wounds. Then I tried using Neosporin on them and bandaids. Wrong. They wouldn't heal because they stayed moist. My doc was not pleased. He said they had to breath to dry up. However, when I woke from being banded I had thick layers of gauze over one wound. I guess he didn't think it neede to breath all the time. Anyway, after having to wash the blood out of my gowns constantly for the last two months this is what I found helpful. When showering I wash my tummy with Soft Soap using my hand. For me Neosporin has been helpful. I just put a thin layer over my wounds. If I need to have them covered because of needing to wear clothes and such silly things, I use a thick layer of gauze taped on with the tape that is used for that. I still have oozing 2 months out but not so much from infections. It has been an interesting road. Good luck with this. I appreciate it that this can be very frustrating.
  6. Can somebody please help me….I’m reading so many different things on revision wls and I’m so confused! I know weight- loss is slower, but it’s been coming off pretty good for me so far (55lbs dwn) since Nov.8th. I’m stalling now for the 2nd week! (Frustrating, but expected). Where the confusing part is how much weight I should expect to loose, my doctor told me I should loose a 100lbs, but my research is stating something in the area of about 60-70lbs, but it’s also stating something about my weight-loss from my previous surgery(btw it was the sleeve). So if I’m to understand correctly I’m only going to loose a total of 100lbs ,including my weight-loss from previous wls? I’m so confused…
  7. So I went today for my final pre-op appointment. Everything is looking good and down 16lbs from 2 weeks of protein shakes and healthy choice dinners. My surgeon didn't mention, and I forgot to ask, about the day before surgery. Is it supposed to be all liquids? Also, I was going to go out tomorrow night for dinner to Texas Roadhouse. Nothing really crazy, just the smallest steak they have and some veggies and mashed potatoes. Would that be acceptable. No bread, fries, nothing like that and not drinks of course. Any input is welcome.

    Exercise! :(

I've been walking around the house. I started doing some walk away the pounds. Next week I'm hopefully can just take daily walks to the mailbox and back. (my box is not in front of my apartment). I'm looking forward to lifting weights again.

    Approved!

Saw my surgeon and dietician yesterday. I have to be on a two week pre-op diet but it isn't horrible ... I get to have real food once a day. Thank goodness! I was dreading the possibility of all Protein Meal Replacements for two weeks. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  10. Hi everyone, I just wanted to share that I just had surgery with dr. Ponce de leon in Tijuana Mexico one week ago today! I am doing awesome!!! no pain, no vomiting, no anything! I had no gas pains after surgery and no pain on my surgical site or drain (the only pain I had was my lower back because of a back injury I had years ago and the laying down did not helped it any!) I am working on putting my surgery as well as other pre-op and post-op videos on youtube (BeautyVGSJourney) this weekend (there are three of them there already) if anyone is interested in watching them. I went by myself and Trish was my coordinator and I could not be happier with my experience. Feel free to comment and/or ask any questions! Good luck in your journeys!
  11. My husband was just denied additional life insurance through my company's spouse coverage because he had the gastric sleeve. I was denied additional insurance because of morbid obesity, I'm 3 weeks out from having surgery and now, I'm uninsurable because of my surgery???? You just can't win. We have two kids. Life Insurance is pretty important, at least until they are through college. It didn't occur to me that having a surgery like this would affect my ability to get life insurance. . This bites

    Heaven today

I think it's pretty normal to have sleep disturbances for the first couple of weeks. I know I slept very poorly for about the first month. So, not only are we dealing with surgical recovery but sleep deprivation! Best of luck and congrats on the soup!
  13. I had this exact pain yesterday and was woken up by it a week or so ago. Yesterday, I thought I was dying it was so bad. I phoned my fill doctor and he said to come right in. Of course by the time I got there the pain was completely gone, but he said it sounded like gallbladder so is sending me for an ultrasound. The only way I could describe it was it was like really bad indigestion right below the sternum, but I couldn't get relief with tums. Anyway, he said it wasn't my band and proceeded to give me a 1.5cc fill (my first, I am only 5 weeks out). So, if he's not worried then I'm not worried - I think it's the not knowing that is so scarry. Hope it doesn't happen again - to you or me!

    glued incisions

I had my surgery on June 30th and earlier this week, I finally picked the glue off because I was tired of looking at it. Now I am not having as much itching as before, but occassionally will have a clear drainage from my port site incision. Was concerned with an infection, but doing great. I do have to watch out with my incisions though because I am a healthcare worker and my surgeon said I am at greater risk for infection and if I were to get one, it could cause early erosion of my band. So I am always scrubbing my skin when I get home from work and occassionally will clean around the site when I am at work. He said even after they healed sometimes infections could still get in. WOW!!!!
  15. Great Post! I only experienced the grief of loss of my comfort in food one time. I am about 6 weeks post op and had my first fill about 2 weeks ago. One day we got a new grill and my husband requested that we make some good hamburgers. He formed and shapped them and I cooked them. He made me my own little pattie which was quite a bit smaller than theirs. Then he made him and my son each 2 big ones. As I was putting their condiments on their bread and looking at how much bigger their portions where than mine, I felt really great about how far I had come in my own eating. My husband and son are both pretty tall and naturally thin. I'm 5'1". As I fixed my own burger, I left off the bread and smeared a small amount of mayo and mustard, a tomatoe, and 2 dill pickles on my burger. When I sat down to eat, the taste was so good. That was the first time I had not had mushies or a Protein shake, but some real solid food. I had been so happy with my band preventing me from eating much but as I ate on my burger, I took a few bites and was full. Eating the muchies was fine and gave me pleasure in my new found ability to be satisfied on such a small amount but when I tasted how good the burger was, I realized how I just wanted to keep taking one more little bite to savor the flavor. That was probably the only time I have grieved over not being able to eat as much. I realized that I really miss chewing and the zone I used to get into when I ate. That is when I kind of took my break from the world and really let my self go to enjoy something. We watched a movie shortly after supper so my grief was brief but it was still there. Yesterday I was kind of depressed and couldn't really put my finger on it. There had been a big dog lose in the neighborhood and I couldn't get out for my morning walk. My husband was home sleeping during the day so I didn't want to go to our work out room and walk on my treadmill because I didn't want to wake him up. I kind of just walked around the house depressed and when he finally woke up and I went in to walk on the treadmill finally, I realized that I had gotten so used to walking every day that that was my time to let go of everything in my world and just enjoy the music and walking. It's during that time now that I enjoy being sort of out of reality and that is really strange for me because I have never liked to exercise. How great it feels to be aware of the changes that occuring in me besides just the weight loss. I love the awareness I feel in how good I am feeling, even if I am having to give up some of the things I thought I could not live without and am replacing them with things I never thought I would do. Thank you for sharing your journey as well.

    time off

Marcy I have read that a lot of people go back to work after 3 days depending on the type of work they do - no heavy lifting for about 4 - 6 weeks - you are on your feet all day and moving so that will be good for the gas pains (gas trapped in abdominal cavity following surgery). I arranged my surgery to coincide with 2 weeks vacation and it is the best thing I could have done. I have felt no pressure to keep at it and could rest when I needed to - the one thing that I am not doing very well is walking. My knee is acting up and that is creating some challenges, but I am doing more around the house at a leisurely rate. Worthwhile looking at if you can afford the time off. Cindy

    Chest Pains!

Yup, that desribes me pretty well. I was sleeved one week ago and it's gotten a lot better. I have trouble tolerating plain water and cold drinks so I've used a lot of crystal light and Mio and G2 Gatorade. It's kind of a learning curve to figuring out your new stomach, try small sips and if it hurts, breath through it and try something else! Today I was able to drink plain water without pain, it does get better!!

    How many incisions?

I just joined this site. As for your first question: how many incisions? I had the single incision procedure (though the incision extended just above and below the belly button so it is NOT hidden in the belly button). It took about 6 weeks for the incision to completely heal. The base of my belly button seemed to ooze for weeks but the surgeon was "happy" with the healing. I just packed my belly button with guaze to absorb the ooze and keep my clothing clean. Now my scar is small and healed. I am glad I only have the one incision.

    Emotional Roller Coaster

PS...just remember why you started this process to begin with....and everyone has a different pre op. I have to do clear liquids for three days prior, my friend did the protien optifast shakes for two weeks...all inended to do the same thing...shrink your liver for surgery. no worries.

    Work

Your post made me think of something. I think a lot of this has to do with your surgeon's eating plan for after surgery. Mine had me on one week of clear fluids, including 50-100 grams of carbs per day in diluted juice (diluted in half with water). Today I'm 11 days out from surgery, and I feel perfectly normal, not tired or anything. I think I would have been more tired if I wasn't getting in those calories every day.

    5 weeks out and pregnant

Yeah i know but i had sex the day before my period , and they calculate it from your last period so therefore a woman is really 38 weeks pregnant not 40 but they say 40 but thats where the 2 weeks come from But they tested me before surgery and it was negative

    9 days post op rash

I also have it, I believe it is a reaction to the glue that they used as a dressing. Better now but I am almost 2 weeks out

    after the fill

Hi Tellie - Your theory may not be that far off. My third fill was similar to your experience - a few days before my third fill I starting to have some pains in my back where I imagined the band to be, a pinching like feeling. I couldn't really imagine how much worse it would be going even tighter, but decided not to cancel the fill. I can't tell you the relief I felt as soon as all the saline was drained out - it was like suddenly being able to breathe again, not realizing I hadn't been breathing before. Third fill was given, and I felt much more comfortable than at the end of my second fill, but definitely tighter. My fills don't usually kick in for about 4 weeks. I have only heard a few others comment that they seem to be on that same delayed schedule. As far as why they take time to kick in at all, perhaps the sudden release of pressure relaxes the stomach, and it takes a few days for it to react again to the renewed pressure. (I love making up my own theories - lol) As far as whether you need a tweak now, or not... You really have to use your best judgment. If you're not losing and not having any problems with this fill, you may want to get readjusted. Just promise yourself that if you end up too tight you'll take the time and expense to have some fill removed. Good luck!
