  1. Well since my last Dr. appt. I was told to increase my Protein. So now it consists of one Protein Drink in the morning/some kind of meat at work (depends on what crap they make)/ Cottage cheese and peaches for snack/ Soup of the day at work for dinner. When I get home it is another Protein shake and a yogurt. I am still having a hard time eating meat, I honestly would become a Vegetarian if I wanted to put that much effort into it. But that is why I am at two shakes a day. That pretty much sums up my typical meal plan for a day.

    I'm hungry!

I was really hungry the first couple of weeks post surgery while on liquids. Not sure of your plan but it helped me to not be so hungry to have creamy Soups, thinned yogurt and keeping up on my Protein shakes. I've moved up to purees now and that helps even more. Make sure you're getting in all you're supposed to. You will make it through.
  3. I have been eating the quest bars to help me with snacking and getting protein in for breakfast. I also have been eating power crunch protein bars. The only thing they are 200 calories , but the carbs are so low and the protein is 14. They really help when I am craving something sweet. The different Greek yogurt flavors that are 80-100 calories. They have 12-14 grams of protein. Sometimes, I freeze them and they taste just like frozen yogurt.

Will we have to low carb for ever?

I eat carbs, but I also exercise quite heavily. I'm training for a half marathon, which is 4 runs a week, and I strength train 3-4 days a week and have gotten into lifting pretty heavy. If I don't eat enough and if I don't have carbs, my body doesn't have any energy and I get lightheaded. Which is dangerous when you're lifting heavy weights or out on a run outdoors. Do I eat white bread and potatoes and cake? No. I get my carbs from fruit, yogurts, granola and Quest bars. The occasional whole wheat tortilla or wrap, but mostly I don't eat "carby" stuff because it fills up my pouch and I don't have room for my Protein. And I get a general "I don't feel so good" feeling if I overload on carbs, especially not the good kind. WLS aside, a low carb, moderate fat, high protein diet has been proven to be the most effective for weight loss and weight maintenance. I plan to maintain a LC/MF/HP diet as much as possible until my doctor or nutritionist tells me otherwise because it's what's working for me.
  5. Now that I'm on the pureed/strained stage, I use yogurt, as some of you suggested. It is Sooo much better that way! Thanks!!!
  6. Hey, I had my sleeve May 26 as well. I'm allowed to eat a lot more now, but I just don't want to. My sample meal plan said 2 oz tuna and 1/4 cup green Beans for lunch, and I'll tell you after 2 oz tuna (tuna salad really) I don't want the green beans. The tuna is enough. I really like cheese sticks, cottage cheese, and the fortified instant oatmeal. And hot dogs and bologna. Though I know I'm not supposed to be eating the bologna but it's so good and it doesn't give me heartburn! I can't eat eggs, and I'm sick of yogurt. I'm still too scared to try a lot of other stuff.

Preop Diet Week 1 in the books

a tiny portion occasionally, no more than a few bites, no more than 1 or 2 times a month, won't kill you, but be prepared for cravings. Maybe you could recreate some of your favorite sweets. I make cannoli cream, flourless protein pancakes, pizza, protein cookies & muffins. Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt is amazing and comes in great flavors. Quest bars have many great flavors, and you can also cook with them. The chocolate chip one, bakes up into yummy cookies. Just cut one up, bake a t 350, watch closely as it only take a few minutes.
  8. Well how I eat now is WAY different than at 8 weeks. Back then I still got stuffed on a couple tablespoons of food, so I was shooting for as much Protein as I could in every bite. I didn't feel "normal" until 4 months out. That's when I could eat a little more, started mixing in more veggies and fruit, and didn't have to struggle each day just to meet goals. At 6 months I could eat a small plate of whatever everyone else was eating ....heavy on the protein dishes, less of the carbs. At 10 months my restriction loosened even more and I found I could eat more and still maintain. Thats pretty much where I still am. Yesterday was a weekend so I did a lot of snacking. Here's what I had..... 1 egg omelet with cheese and sausage; 2 16oz cups of decaf coffee with 1/2 and 1/2. leftover Chinese BBQ pork, raw cauliflower, broccoli and carrots dipped in spinach dip, peanuts, blueberries, plain Greek yogurt flavored with vanilla Protein powder and flax seed added for Fiber, a slice of braunschweiger, 12oz can of V8 juice, elk sausage with a couple bagel crisps, 32oz Water, white chocolate raspberry Quest bar, cottage cheese and fresh peaches. I know it sounds like a lot, but the portions were small and that's typically how I eat on the weekends if I'm home. But in general I eat whatever I want whenever I'm hungry. On work days I don't get a lunch break but I always have a large protein smoothie and a quest bar at some point in the day so I'm free to eat veggies, fruit and grains at mealtimes, rather than just protein.

Post op & eating in public!

I am only 3 weeks post-op, and I can only handle yogurt (4oz), Protein shakes (sip throughout day), cup of soup (about 2/3 cup), and once I ate 1 grilled chicken strip. If I try anything else, it does not stay down. Some people have said refried Beans were good, I tried yesterday and it was miserable. I know I have to be patient, it is getting hard. I agree that eating out is near impossible. I have had to excuse myself and get sick in the bathroom. It is not how I pictured my post op life to be. However on the good side, I am still losing 5 pounds a week and have not yet changed my exercise routine. I figured once I stall, I will pick up the exercise. I keep reading about those that are 5 1/2 weeks out and eating wonderful things....I can only hope I will be brave enough to try.
  10. I am also struggling with trying to get enough fluids, but I am doing two 6 oz Protein shakes per day at 23 grams protein each. Then I will blend a nonfat greek yogurt (18 grams protein) with less than half a scoop (about 10 grams protein) of Jay Robs vanilla egg white protein powder, and a tbsp of unsweetened almond milk. So all three have a combined total of about 75 grams of protein per day and total approx. 550 calories. Yes, your Protein drinks count as fluids. I also think it is very important in the beginning to focus on getting your protein in which may increase your calories, but you are healing from surgery and trying to maintain your energy
  11. I've been off the boards a bit simply because I'm so busy. Surgery was 11-4-2014. Highest weight 348..surgery date 312--and today 245....... And now I've hit a brick wall. I have been stalled out here for months. I need to add I've had some issues... In Jan I was bitten by a dog and spent 4 days in the hospital with a bone infection after surgery, the. The bone didn't set so I was back in surgery 2-20... Shortly after I developed siatica and was unable to walk at all and only went to dr office and bed I was very depressed and unable to do anything, I recovered from siatica after about 3-4 weeks treatment. The arm however isn't yet healed. My concern is that I feel I've been lingering at this weight literally for months now. And it's depressing. Once I got back to walking I average a few miles up to 5 miles per day. I then found I have an abnormal curve to my neck which causes my arm to feel "asleep" most of the time. This has all played a huge part in my exercise plan. I took on a second job which included great physical demands. Today alone between 2-8 I got in my 10000 steps plus even more. I built myself up and took part in a 5k walk for obesity. My eating is minimal. I start with one cup of coffee in the am and then no more. I typically had about 2-3 oz of chicken or tuna salad about 9am. Then at 12 I might have yogurt or cheese. And the evenings I have a little less than 1/2 of a frozen meal such as Atkins or smart choice and focus in high Protein. If the meal has Pasta or bread I only have a small amount. I really don't do well with either so mostly I'm getting the protein and veggies. I am seeking advise on how to break a stall?? I go back to my dr in August and had hoped to loose another 50lbs before then but not sure if that is possible. Any advise?? Please I'm depressed that I'll be here forever and I certainly want to be a more healthy weight. Presurgery I wore 28--today I'm more 16-18 pants Thanks in advance!! I am not getting in 1000 calories per day. I also fight to get in my water!
  12. At 5:30 I hooved a cup of split pea soup at 6:30 I ate an entire Yoplait yogurt and at 7:40 a string cheese. Crazy.
  13. I was sleeved on 6/10 and am now on soft foods. I try to do a greek yogurt in the morning followed by cantaloupe or honeydew. Then I drink crystal light sweet tea. For a snack I do string cheese and found it very easy to snack on tuna with light mayo. For dinner I have had success with Talapia and very soft green beans but today I had snow crab and OMG it was wonderful. If you prep plan your food it certainly helps.... Just remember to chew, chew, chew. I had fish stick 1x and oh please, never again! Doing good, down 22lbs.

    I finally decided

Wow. I was on Clear liquids (with the exception of premier protein) for one week, full liquids (including yogurt and cottage cheese) for week two, soft foods week three, soft foods with the addition of tuna, soft fish and canned chicken for week four, etc. My plan is very detailed and is based on texture. Hard, crunchy things like nuts weren't allowed until much later. Does your surgeon not have a NUT on staff?
  15. Sleeved 5/21. Eat about 700 calories and a minimum of 55 or 60 g protein. Trying to get all my protein from food because the protein drinks go right through me and the diarrhea is awful. So I use Greek yogurt, eggs, cheese and beans. There is a new protein vegetable steamer I plan to try today. I use Myfitnesspal to track. Down about 30 pounds in 5 weeks.

    CAN'T WAIT!

I am almost where you are. I completed all my requirements last week, but am waiting for my Dr. to receive my psych evaluation so they can submit to insurance for approval. I am hoping to get approval very soon so I can get a surgery date. I am nervous about the pre-op diet too. I will have to do 1 week of clear liquids+ protein shakes. Then after surgery my surgeon has the first meal be clear liquids then switches you to full liquids for 2 weeks. Since there full liquids includes cream of wheat and low fat yogurt I think I will be fine on that.

    July sleevers?

With my doctor it all depends on your BMI. If it's 45 or under you go on the pre-op diet for one week. If it's 46 or over you need to follow it for 2 weeks. I'm lucky compared to some of the other pre-ops I see on here. I'm allowed to have some food: 6-8 servings of chicken, fish, FF SF Greek yogurt, SF applesauce, SF Jell-o, oatmeal, & 1 cup raw veggies (lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, tomato etc). My NUT doesn't care if I eat all the food, but I have to drink 64 oz of water and 4 protein shakes a day (whey protein isolate only), plus multi vitamin and calcium citrate.
  18. I lost 90 lbs total by the time I was 6 months post-op. I haven't lost an ounce since then. I just celebrated my first year and am doing everything right. I was called the model patient for so many reasons, but the numbers are not budging. I am a super-disciplined person, I eat very slowly, have no emotional relationship with food, and cook everything myself. I am really at a loss. I moved away from my doctor's office after 7 months, and lost all support. No dietitian, no post-op appointments, no blood-work, nothing. Mostly, I mourn the feedback. As my pouch adjusted, I have been able to easily get an entire yogurt down without much effort. I have started adding 5 cherries to my Breakfast yogurts... I am obsessing over my food intake, worrying if I am eating too much (no weight loss) or too little (body in starvation mode). I have no way of knowing unless I get real answers from real professionals. I am tired of researching and doctoring myself. I am tired of putting together advice from people who have been through it. I really need to shake up my system. I feel like I'm losing time, and that I have only 6 more months to lose weight for real. I am 30 lbs from my goal, and have no hope. I'm not sure if I'm looking for more advice right now. I just need some feedback from long timers. I think I want to hear about people who lost weight way after their surgery. Maybe I'll be able to stop pressuring myself to catch only this train before it leaves the station.
  19. I am 10 weeks post-op. I was trucking along and enjoying introducing new foods regularly. In the past two weeks or so, almost everything I've enjoyed previously has started getting this metallic taste. chicken is the worst, but Peanut Butter, beef, etc. all taste bad. So I've been living on yogurt, Protein shakes (which I had stopped previously), cheese sticks and tuna pretty much. food and non-food things also smell disgusting. I feel like my skin and hair smell sickly sweet, metallic, too. I don't even want to think about seriously greasy, fattening foods I used to love, like movie theater popcorn and fried chicken. They literally make me ill now. Not a bad thing, but it makes going to the movies or out socially difficult. I asked the NP about it at my two month follow-up, and she did not seem worried. Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea what's causing it? How long did it last? I appreciate any input.

    July sleevers?

Mine is the 14th of July start my pre-op on July 4th - this should be interesting! I can have protein shakes, sf jello, sf Popsicle, broths, small curd cottage cheese, yogurt (Greek is best), water, crystal light and very low sugar oatmeal. I think I'm one of the lucky ones! I have to do this for 10 days! I am prepared, a little anxious and scared, but I know I'm doing the right thing!!

    Artificial sweetners?!?

Not sure if you're saying you are or are not okay with stevia but that was the only "not sugar" sugar that I have done since surgery. For my 2 week pre and post op I made my own Popsicles using vitamin water zero. I also made my own jello using Kool Aid packets and Stevia. Google Kool aid jello and then just substitute stevia for however much sugar the recipe calls for. I also made my own pudding using Greek yogurt (check what sweeteners in ingredients) and unsweetened cocoa powder. It's more work than just buying everything pre made but it was worth it for me. Plus it's only a few weeks and then you should never have to do it again

    protein shake suggestions?

I'll try the pudding pop idea! I've been mixing my unflavored powder into my yogurt and puddings, but a pudding or yogurt pop sounds great!
  23. Slow and steady is just fine. If she cannot tolerate any of the Protein supplements, she will just have to get more creative with eating high protein foods. My favorite id FAGE 0% greek yogurt. I mix it with fruit or even use it instead of sour cream. Another thing I have found I can tolerate are the Isopure Protein Drinks. However I can only tolerate the teas and the coconut flavors. Each bottle is 40 grams of protein. I actually divide it up and do 1/3 Isopure to 2/3 Water. It's especially refreshing during these hot summer days. Glad she is doing well! Thanks for checking in.
  24. Hi! I was just sleeved on June 23rd, and My surgeon requires a month of liquids post op (shakes, yogurt, pudding, broth) before moving into soft foods. Well it takes me about an hour to finish a Protein shake now and they all taste so bad (warm) after about 15 minutes! Here's what I've tried so far: Premier Protein Fit frappe chocolate Fit frappe vanilla Any other suggestions?? Ways to get in protein that has worked for you?? Thanks (:

    Artificial sweetners?!?

You don't have to eat the jello or any of the artificial food subs. It's more challenging but you can do it. I don't eat jello. I am allergic to several things and vegetarian. Besides the fact that I dislike jello, the artificial food coloring is also an allergy trigger for me. However, you have to have a frank discussion with the nutritionist about alternatives. Post op I was give ProSource no carb, I was also allowed tea and veg broth. I also used Isopure unflavored whey Protein powder and added that to veg broth and greek yogurt. One of the few flavored protein powders I could tolerate was CVS brand whey protein. It comes in vanilla, chocolate canisters and also Cookies n' creme and strawberry packets. Additonally I drank Kefir (a yogurt drink). It was 2 long weeks but I made it. Thankfully I didn't have a pre-op diet.
