Xpost 1 Year Into The Journey And 8 Months Post Op (Long)
MyGastricSleeveLife replied to Terry H.'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Congrats!! Such an awesome story & great NSVs!! -
I started seeing an endocrinologist in August 2004. I was diagnosed as Insulin Resistant Diabetic, type two. Which basically meant I had a real difficult form of diabetes to treat. There are just a few meds that help a Lot. And unfortunately they have awful side effects. And none are pregnancy safe. So when I was pregnant with the twins I was on HUGE doses of insulin to get my sugars down. Thankfully the twins were healthy in that respect. I have been on the shots since the boys were born in 2006. We tried metformin for about 2 months, and I was so sick. So I went on byetta. When I had the band placed they took me off it. I was told to try it. So I did. I have had some days that made me nervous. But I went to my regularly scheduled endocrinology appt. I've dropped 46 pounds (by my scales) since I last saw him. I had my band placed since I last saw him. I was a nervous wreck. I went in, with about a weeks worth of sugars. (I don't write them down that often). I was informed I can stop taking my sugars so often. I was also told I no longer need him. I have been released as a patient. However, if the need arises, he is there for me. But he thinks with all I'm doing, and how well the band is working for me, I will not need him again. So My NSV is I lost weight, and that caused me to loose my endocrinologist... whom I really liked. Teri:thumbup:

So I turned 50 and followed my doctors advice to go get a screening colonoscopy. They did a phone interview and couldn't believe I didn't take any prescription medication (after getting rid of high blood pressure, Water retention pills, etc.). Got to the procedure room and my BP was 115/60 with a resting heart rate of 56 bpm. Gastro doctor comes in and goes over the procedure and then tells me "you are in the best condition of a 50 year old I have seen all year!" If he had only seen me 1 year ago! He would have never said that as I was 130 lbs overweight and couldn't keep my blood pressure under control even with meds. Gotta love the sleeve!

NSV since I haven't posted one in a while
M2G replied to pasquini's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Awesome NSV!!! I am buying jeans and other clothing at goodwill and thrift stores and finding good deals on brand-name stuff! Side note: ARE you planning a tummy tuck? I am just interested on a man's take on this...hubby is sleeved also and about 25lbs away from goal, although I doubt very seriously he would want/need any plastics. His BMI will hover around 27-28 when he is at goal which is he FINE with, to get a 'normal' BMI he would need to go down to around 160lbs and he feels that is too small for his frame/build (I agree!) I see that your BMI will be NORMAL when you hit goal...just curious on the whole plastics discussion from a male view point! -
You know what I'm excited for?

I would always shy away from the camera. Hated the way I looked. Never wanted to be in pictures. Today while on vacation I asked to have my picture taken. We are in beautiful Las Vegas visiting the Red Rock Canyon and I wanted to remember today and the view. So thankful for the change in me.. On both the outside and inside Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Getting the motivation to start working out
igotthis98 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm posting this as a NSV, because for me (and I'm sure I'm not alone on this), motivation to start working out has always been my biggest struggle with weight loss... Today, I signed up with a personal trainer! I am going to be doing the sessions with my best friend, which is great because we are really good at supporting and motivating each other. I have always been scared about starting to work out because I've always told myself that I can't, that I'll do it wrong, I'll end up hurting myself, blah, blah, blah! I am putting my foot down now though, no more fear! I'm putting my big girl panties on (sidenote: must buy smaller big girl panties as the current ones are falling off), sucking it up and refusing to feed into the excuses I've always created for myself. I start next week, wish me luck! -

I am not one to post regularly but just had to share my weekend NSV with folks who may understand my excitement. I had tickets to a baseball game with my husband and in-laws. I went shopping and was able to buy a women's cut team tee for the first time and did not have to wear the men's shirts like before. Then I could actually walk through the turnstile without turning sideways, but by far the best part... I fit in the seats, I was able to cross my legs and did not leave with bruises on my hips from squeezing into my seat like in years gone by! I am loving the new me.. My Consult weight 343, Surgery weight 305, current weight 256..surgery was 2/26!

I'm on day 9 of pre-op diet and I just had my first major NSVs this morning!!! Today, I put on a pair of grey ponte pants that I bought in the middle of February for an interview. They were TIGHT when I bought them, like just this side of fitting, and now they're falling off! I keep having to pull them up, they're loose in the thighs, and I can pull the waist out a good 2-3"! Also, when my fiancee gave me a hug this morning, she put her arms around me and went, "where did you go???" For the first time, she was able to not only completely encircle my waist, but interlace her fingers at the small of my back!! Such a great motivation to continue on this liquid diet and stay focused! So excited!

I think this is a good plan for you. You should Celebrate more NSVs because those are true things about weightloss. Weighing is a tool to help you know if you are on target. Numbers dont make a person. God Bless on the new changes.

My WLS Center (Swedish in Seattle) has reached out to me yesterday to participate in promotional material (web site and flyers) in addition to upcoming TV spot. What a wonderful validation of WLS as a solution for morbid obesity!! It will be so much fun and there is also swag and incentives that come with doing it.
