    A little motivation

    I can’t read it either - but here’s a list I cut and pasted: 1 lb = 4 sticks of butter 3 lbs = a half gallon of milk 5 lbs = a bag of sugar 7 lbs = an average newborn 10 lbs = a bag of rice 15 lbs = a larger bag of dog food 20 lbs = a car tire 25 lbs = an average tuba 30 lbs = an adult male southern koala 40 lbs = a bag of mulch 50 lbs = a bicycle 60 lbs = a kayak 70 lbs = a mini-fridge 80 lbs = a full 10 gallon aquarium 90 lbs = a jackhammer 100 lbs = a large male deer I’d like to loose 2 large male deers - but would be just fine with 4 bicycles.
  3. 4. So, I have a question for those of you that have already been approved. My surgeon's ask my PCP for 5 years of weight records. Well, I can only come up with 4. I have reached out to the surgeon's office to see if this was a problem. She told me that most companies only actually look at the last 3 years but she would look in to the specifics of my insurance and get back to me. I am a nervous wreck and would hate to have come this far for me not to get approved over 1 year.....I have 2017, 2016, 2015 & 2014....does anybody have any experience with this situation? I have Tricare Reserve (standard). I am suppose to get sleeved in early July....I don't want any set backs now!! Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app

    When do you....

Not to be mean, but you need to follow your dr's diet. The reason you only drink fluids for 1-2 weeks after surgery is to let your stomach heal and not have it work to digest solid food. Your band has been attached to your stomach with stitches and those stitches need to "set" so your band will stay in the correct position. When you eat solids, they may not "hurt" you, but your stomach is working away to digest those solids and could be dislodging the position of the band. You could cause yourself a slip. Don't feel bad about yourself, but please think about why you got banded and all the effort you went through to get here. Is it worth a slip right from the get go over a tiny bit of solid food? I am surprised that your clinic did not provide you with the information to be successful in this journey.

  7. I hope someone out there has an idea as to what im experiencing. i was banded 7 months ago. I was doing fantastic! i had a pb episode with a tortilla chip about 3 months ago. well Ive never been the same after that. Ive felt a soreness in my chest a tighting if you will. The doc said perhaps i irritated soemthign with the torilla chip, and urged me not to worry. However this feeling of soreness still exists. and so she gave me an unfill. She also gave me carafate some form of mylanta. ok i was feelign a little better the soreness comes and goes..random. and now i get my fill and 2nd day of fill i get this soreness when i tried to eat mushies.. and its been 5 days its realllly taking a toll on my life. esophogram came out normal. I dont know how to handle this.. doctor has no idea what this could be at this point. It gets even worse if i get nervous. But bottom line it is non stop chest pain.. Pleaaaassseeee help..

    Before VSG 04/3/2017

  9. I hear ya!! I had .3 removed a month ago and it was a huge difference, too. It's amazing how such a small amount can make a mammoth difference.
  10. Hopefully I can met more people there I am going by myself to get my sleeve surgery with Dr. Diaz, very nervous and excited at the same time, freaking out about those 2 weeks pre op diet, please pray for me!
  11. Tracey, I think everyone stalls in week 3...and female sleevers usually gain a pound or two at that time of the month, whether we still actively have a TOM or not! Have you taken your measurements? Are your clothes getting looser? Do you have more energy? All of these things are NSVs, or non-scale victories. You really should look for them, because there are going to be times where the scale doesn't move for days and weeks as you get further out. It can be very disheartening unless you make it a point to look for the NSVs. I lost my first pants size during a "stall". I hadn't lost any weight in over a week, but my pants fell off me during that stall. Your body sometimes needs a little adjustment period to deal with the rapid weight loss. Don't worry, you WILL lose weight again!

    Maybe Broke My Stall?

Unfortunately, lol, I was the one bringing them in the house. Its weird, because cookies arent really my thing, but I always bought them for my son for a treat, and one pkg would last a really long time. I have been concentrating on proteins, all I've eaten is chicken and cheese and then started adding some salad lately. But I fell into the same problems that have plagued me my whole life, I was depressed when the scale didnt move, so I just started eating anything that was sweet. Even though I dont even really like those cookies Its a mental thing I guess, that we all fight with, this week I lost, but next week I wont! I have been SOOOO discouraged with this 4 week stall, that I was seriously regretting my decision for surgery. Now that its moving again, I feel a little better. That makes sense about the carbs though, being digested faster. Plus, I know that sugar can make you feel hungry faster. I'm definitely back on track now though :)
  13. K, I know, we all go through stalls. Mine started after week two and is still going at week six. I feel like I'm going slowly insane. I have about four lbs in those four weeks. Overall, I've lost 25 lbs in six weeks. My current weight is 220. I track every calorie, and am always between 600-800. I get at least half an hour of exercise a day, a few days a week I get an hour or more. I drink Water - usually 7 glasses, plus one Protein shake. I take my Multivitamin. I get 65-85 grams of protein per day, aiming for the upper end. I keep my carbs around 35-40. And I feel crazy. Obsessed. I've started weighing just once a week so that the daily disappointment isn't too much. But what am I doing wrong!!! I feel like I am doing something terribly wrong for my body to lose almost nothing in a month at these restrictions. And the hunger is not helping. I am not a lucky one who doesn't have hunger. I take Prevacid twice daily for acid control. But I feel so hungry every day that it is overwhelming. I'm not fantasizing about any wonderful foods, I'm fantasizing about not feeling so hungry that I feel physically ill. Does anyone have some advice or supportive words? I'm pretty overwhelmed today! I know this was the right decision, but I'm not sure if things will ever move in the right direction.
  14. Yeah, everyone is different. I walked a lot the first year I had my surgery. Week 1 I lost 12 lbs and then I lost 2-3 lbs a week. Then it went down to 1-2 lbs a week. I had some weeks at 0 lost. But at the end of the year I lost 160 lbs. .... Different situation, my sister also had a gastric bypass and over 1 year has lost 65 lbs. So everyone is different. My advice is to truly have a change of heart with your relationship with food, never ever cheat.. Meaning don't "find out" if you can still eat candy or push for that extra bite... If your brain finds out you can cheat the system You Will. So don't cheat. Last, walking or exercising really does make a giant difference in how much you lose. So don't just sit on the couch waiting for it to fall off. You'll still lose weight but you won't get the results you're looking for...anyway, enough blabbing. Good Luck!! You're a new person now!! So exciting!

    Gassy after surgery - Help!

Interested in an answer too. My gas is horrendous. But I mostly burp and burp a lot. One of my office mates has been on vacation so I've just been burping away at my desk. My other office mate does it when he wants so I knew I wouldn't offend him. But I'm worried for this week. These burps are hard to stifle and it's painful if I try to hold them in.

    Good Sources of Carbs

my program was a balanced one vs one of the ultra-low-carb ones, but regardless, we were told to focus on protein and fluids during the early weeks, since those are important for healing.

    Brain tired

I know you are . I just get a b12 once every 2 weeks and it seem to drain after a couple days . Think I will try the b12 sub daily but when I use to take them they did not seem to work as good as the shots . Think also try the testosterone soon to see if that helps .
  18. I will be soooo happy when I get my 2nd fill come Monday. lol I have never looked to forward to having a needle poked in my tummy. The past 3 wks have been so emotional and stressful for me after loosing my sister and I really tried to wait it out but the weight just isn't dropping and at a stand still. This week I have been getting hungry when I'm not supposed to. So Monday will be a new day and a new chapter and I am so looking forward to it.
  19. I am not lactose intolerant, but the same happened to me post surgery. I could not tolerate any diary. I sufered for 4 weeks. During that time, I was on soy milk, which went down fine. Then, once I hit thar one month mark, I was fine..I went back to milk and diary!
  20. Thanks for the responses, all. And thanks, Jack, for that vision of "old putrified and fermenting products" - that is something that is going to stick with me for a while! (Or hopefully not, as the case may be!) Jachut, fortunately coffee isn't one of my vices, so I'll take your word that's it's the strong stuff that may be setting you off. Interestingly, I saw my doc yesterday for the one-week followup, he's moved me to soft foods, and I've had a couple of yogurts and some cottage cheese since then. No gas today, but yesterday was really bad - keep me up at night, bad. Who the frell knows what it means, but I'm guessing it's another point toward Jack's putrifying remains. Hee, sorry Jack, couldn't resist. PS Jachut - you look awesome and are an inspiration. My excuse is that I'm six years older and I'll never wear a bikini like that!
  21. So just a quick back story. Banded 12/20. Had restriction for the first 4 months or so, decided to get my first fill in may. I was still losing but feeling hungrier. Though I did not give in and eat more. The fill was only 0.75 cc. Initially I felt good back to where I had been. That only lasted a week or two. I've been hungry again, again not giving in. I'm still losing, in fact last couple weeks have been really god. I've discovered if I mix a day or two of eating less than 1000 calories in during the week I lose a lot better. So my question is do I get a fill? I'm not looking for the band to tell me I can't have a piece of bread (though I don't eat it often). I want opinions if I should get it just to control the hunger. Though usually drinking a bunch of Water calms it down. And like I said even though it is there I stay within my calories.
  22. My surgery date was 9/30/14 SW: 281 CW: 179 I am not "cured", let me start by saying that. My old eating habits are coming back. A chip there, a bit of a cookie there. I tell myself that I'll run later and I always do, but it's got me in a stall of 175-183 for about a month now. It's the first month that I've lost very little. I am incredibly proud of all I've accomplished, but am so scared of "replasing" with my food addiction. My question is this.. I have a lot of willpower when it comes to knowing I need to make a change and was very curious if anyone had tried a "pouch reset". I'm just wondering if going back as if I just had surgery would be what I needed to get over the hump. I found this website http://obesitycoverage.com/the-pouch-reset-losing-weight-after-weight-regain/ and thought maybe it would give me a boost toward my goal. I would feel much better about slipping some with my eating habits once I'm at my goal, not 30 or 40 lbs from it. One big thing I can pat myself on the back for is continuing to exercise. I typically exercise 60-75 minutes 5 to 6 days a week. I just have to get this eating thing down!!!!!!

    I don’t think am losing

From week 4 to week 8 I lost zero. I gained 3 pounds. I've now lost 5 pounds the last 2 weeks. You are very early on and it looks like you lost a lot if weight pre-op, as I did. I think your body is taking a break. You will start losing again. Best wishes!

5 oz of protein OR 10 cookies

Well, I had my first "slip" a few days ago. We had company or went out every night this week plus house if full to the rafters with chocolate but I managed through to the 7th night of Hanukkah when I ate six pieces of chocolate, I promised myself it was a one off and I was DONE, then had two Lindor truffles. About 15 minutes later I was in the shower getting ready for bed and burped and up came most of not all the chocolate. Gross.
