    Banded & Studying Abroad?

I was banded about 5 weeks ago, i got banded in my home town but i go to uni at the other end of the country, because i moved away about 2 weeks after surgery iv had to go home for fills because there arent any doctors that do WLS in the city where i go to uni, its totally manageable, im going overseas at the end of the year so about 12 months postop and the Dr said that at that point you should be fine and not needing any fills and if there is an emergency and you need an emergency unfil any doctor can do it as theres lots of instructional videos available, If your worried before you go they can take some fluid out so its not tight it might push you from the green zone to the yellow zone though which is fine for life just not for weight loss. Good luck for surgery

    .1cc removed...

I went in for a slight un-fill because I have not been able to eat hardly any solid food and if I do it is only a few bites. The radiologist had me drink the barium and looked at me under floro before he took any out and said, "You look like you are right where you are suppose to be" "This is where most people want to be at in terms of restriction". I felt like a weany... My first fill was 1.cc and I went in two weeks ago for .6cc making a total of 1.6cc. It was just too tight, thats all there is to it. He removed .1cc and showed it to me. He than had me drink again to see if the barium went down any easier and said it did. I have read that people react different to different fills. He was stereotyping me for sure. He also up that darn needle in and kept moving it around (after it was in) trying to get it in the middle of the port. I would have to get a obsessive compulsive doc! I am bruised and have a big looking hole on my tummy. I was able to eat 1/2c taco Soup on the way home. I will see over the weekend how I do. The doc told me that the whole idea was to cut down on my eatting. I said, "Yes, but not to starve to death"! I told him I had zero energy to do any exercise and had to eat icecream to get 1000 cal per day in me..... GEEZE The good news is that my un-fill was FREE. The policy is you can come back within two weeks for an up or down fill.... and they are cheap too.... YIPPIE I hope I don't have to go back in there for a long, long, long time....

Tomorrow is the day! : )

Hi Chris - Tomorrow is my big day too! I'm getting nervous, not so much of the surgery but about what this means for the rest of my life. I'm sure I'm ready but I think it's probably just normal to have second thoughts at this moment. I don't want to back out; I would just like to be about 6 weeks out and working the band. Good luck to both of us. Simon

    Clarity on "Stats"

Sleeve I counted pre surgery required weight loss. For me it is the point where I started to get my weight off. High weight 254 Surgery weight 234 June 2014 Goal weight 140 December 2015 from surgery to gaol six months 94 pounds first year hit 125 pounds. total of 109 lost from surgery Three years out I got back up in the 140's. Current weight is 136. (working to settle around 130. This is where I feel comfortable) Sizing is weird..Depends on the designer - I'm 5'5" tall - jeans 2-4 Shirts small to a large.
  5. I have been thinking about Lap Band for a while now. I'm 5'4" and before surgery was appoximately 221 lbs. I had just so happen to lose about 15 lbs right before I got pregnant. Anyway, I was talking to my OBGYN and she said it is definitely something that I could start after the baby is born. I thought it would be perfect if I could get it while I'm on my maternity leave. I have 12 weeks off, so I will have plenty of recovery time. I'm having my initial consultation on Wednesday. Before they made the appointment for me they asked the surgeon if this was a possibility. He said it was, of course, I will know more when we actually meet. Has anyone been in this situation? Being pregnant and getting Lab Band so close to delivery? My other concern is that I'm usually weighing in between 225 and 210 lbs (depending on how I'm eating and working out). I don't believe I have any commorbities, so I'm afraid they will say no. Also, at my current weight with the pregnancy 233 my BMI is just over 40. I feel like I'm so close to the NO your insurance won't cover it answer. :cry Sorry for the long novel, but I just wanted to see what input I could find. Thanks!

    Day 6 Hungry

Every one feels hungry when they can't chew. Once you can chew food it will be less. Scientifically you should not have any physical hunger at this point mainly from swelling and nerves being cut. It should basically be impossible to be physically hungry. The person hungry at 5 weeks are you on a PPI? You can still feel hungry on an antacid. Only a PPI is going to stop you from feelings hungry because of acid.

    Day 6 Hungry

Yes! I'm going to define my hungry then and now. About two weeks after surgery I felt hungry all the time like Christina describes. Cooking, seeing people eat made me feel hungry. Knowing that I just had 80% of my stomach removed which included severing nerves to my stomach and removing most of my grelin hormone didn't change my hunger feeling. Genuine hunger is the body craving nutrition not the head craving something that tastes good. Because of my new physiology I know it isn't empty stomach hunger because my small tummy doesn't know it's empty. Now my first step to hunger is to add real, good nutrition. If I'm still hungry I'm sure it's my head and I clean something in my house or go for a walk Good luck

    Day 6 Hungry

I need advice too!! I'm five weeks out and am hungry all the time....even after I eat. And not only am I hungry all the time but I never feel full. No nausea, no vomiting, no "stuffed feeling, no pain in the chest, and no "I can't eat another bite" feeling at all. I've been sticking to the diet and keeping under 700 calories but I am miserable. I feel like I am on the worst diet of all time!! I was so hoping the Sleeve would help curb my hunger and give me an early sense of fullness! Sometimes I wonder if my doctor did anything to my stomach at all! Help!!
  10. My mom had her surgery one week ago today, so she went from clear liquids to adding a protein shake today. She had horrible diarrhea all day from just one shake. Is this normal? She thinks maybe its because she hasn't had anything heavy in over a week, but I've never heard that before. Thanks!

    private pay search

Centennial Center for the Treatment of Obesity in Nashville, TN offers Lap-Band surgery for $14,400, which is pretty decent for U.S. surgeons. There are three surgeons that work there.

    Scale not moving advice please

I have been going through the same thing and this is what I have done. I decide to stay off the scales except for Mondays and Friday. Mondays to see how "bad" i did over the weekend, to know what I need to work on the up coming week and Fridays to see what I did throughout the week. I have also started keeping a food journel as well. I think you really would be suprised at how many calories you are eating in a day if you truly count everything you drink or put in your mouth. I have also started eating around 90 grams of protein a day and drinking 60 oz of water each day. I take two fiber bill at 9am and 3pm and chromium once a day everyday. I eat everythree hours starting at 7am(Protien Shake) snake (protein Bar) at 10, lunch around 1, snack (bar, cheese,or almonds) at 4 then dinner before 7. I eat the same time everyday. I walk 3 miles at least everyother day. I started this pretty strict a week ago, going on week #2 and I lost 4 pounds last week. I was stressing so much over everything, I decided to relax and do what I was suppose to, choose the right foods and write down everything stay between 1100 and 1200 calories a day and it worked for me. I truly think the protien water and 1200 calories is the key! Good luck and I wish you the best! Carrie

Buy the stool softeners! My first 2 poops were like granite. Worse than childbirth and I had big-headed babies! I'm at almost 6 weeks and I still rotate colace and milk of magnesia and sometimes glycerin suppositories.

    Where are you From?

Yeah, I didn't have any complications either (unless you consider plantar fasciatis (sp?) a complication, lol). I did mess up once and had to throw up but it was when I first started on solids again. You're doing great, my exercise program isn't nearly as dedicated as yours, I'm just doing some strength training 3-4x a week and increasing activity through the day. so go you, lol. I'd love to meet up, maybe after summer....I don't do well with heat at all (even that is improving with surgery - amazing!)

    Noise and Knot in throat

The pain, discomfort and breathing issues stopped around a week post-op. Almost 8 months later and I still can't burp very well but it is not uncomfortable...I hiccup a lot though. Burps are more from the throat rather than from the stomach and I have to force them out.
  16. I understand what you are going thru. I have smoke for 34 years and it is hard to just quit. But I called on the help of my doctor which she gave me Wellbutrin and it has help alot. I have not smoked in 10 weeks. With that said I looked up everything I could on the computer and the trace of nicotine is gone within 48 hours. I'm not sure how they test or what they are testing for but for myself I did not what to take a chance. I was told also I could not smoke within 2 months of surgery. I go 4/21 for my pre op. But I think you you will be okay. Good Luck
  17. Everyone Might Not Be As Stupid As Me But Here Is What Happened:- I asked for and got an extra 1 CC for my second fill. The reason is, the first 3 CC's I got after my operation gave me "restriction" for about 2 weeks then subsided. I thought 2 extra CCs would do it (even though the PA didn't agree). I couldn't keep anything down, so I went back for an "unfill". Sooooooooooooo.............When they say "1 CC".............listen to them! The more fills you have the less it takes...........A Lesson Learned!

    REGRETS

I am glad to be rid of the band after suffering with it for over a decade. I would have removed even if I had not had the sleeve. Glad I had the sleeve though. Four weeks out today and not really hungry. I have been able to stick to my limited diet without issues and have lost 18 pounds in 4 weeks.

  21. StormWarning

    Scared.

Your feelings are completely natural. I went through the same emotions. I was on liquids for 18 days. After I seen the weight start coming off I asked hubby if I could do this on my own-even though I knew it would not last. I chalked it up to fear of subconsciously being scared of the what if's. I was so worried and so sure that this surgery would fail me, and I just didn't want to see failure again. As far as the sleep, that happens to allot of us. I didn't sleep well for a few months. From the time I made up my decision, to the time I sat down and told my hubby what I wanted, sleep seemed to become sporadic. Once I had a date, I pretty much kissed sleep good-bye. I didn't worry so much, since I caught up on sleep after my surgery. The first few days was great, but then your body grows worn out so to speak. Your limited at first what you can have, in my instance a week of clears only. So I found my energy levels being non-existent after noon and a nap was much needed. Remember to keep your head high, and only you can decide what is best for yourself. But if you have come this far, don't let fear or stress turn you away. Everything gets better and greater once on the other side.

2 weeks post op and back to work

Ok, I've read about people going back to work as soon as the next day. My doctor even said most people go back in a week. Well, I returned to work after 2 weeks in part at the insistance of my bosses one who is a urologic surgeon the other a Pharm D. I had alot of trouble the first weeking getting out of bed or a chair but I have a back problem and with the adomen cut I needed someone or something to pull up on. Plus I was very weak. Apparently even a little pain med holds on to me for a while and makes my mind very cloudy. I spoke like a drunk. Anyway, I went back on July 14, and left about 30 minutes early. I was so tired I couldn't sleep. I did much better today and I made sure I started my day with a protein drink to help with my energy. I had an abnormal liver biopsy with my band and I saw the liver specialist on Monday. He ran some additional blood tests so I will know more later. Overall I feel good. I still need a nap about 2 pm everyday but I'm thinking it may be due to low sugar so today I drank some juice and I didn't get sleepy. Before the band I was always hungry and was embarrased to eat until I was full. It is absolutely liberating not to be a slave to hunger anymore. I love not ever feeling hunger! I do feel thirst but hunger is gone, and without the hunger, I can lose the weight. I wish I had done this years ago!

    Need a Little Support

I just want you to know, that i'm right there with you. My surgery is in a week, and my emotions change every 5 minutes. Sometimes i'm happy, sometimes i'm nervous, sometimes i'm calm and sure, other times i'm completley ready to chicken out. Usually when i'm feeling down and scared, I will look at the before and after pictures on this board, and read everyones NSV, and i know i'm doing the right thing REALLY deep down.

    anyone had knee surgery?

I had knee surgery over 6 years ago. I had a little tear in my anterior cruciate ligament about 12 years ago. My knee started giving me more problems than normal, so I found a surgeon who agreed with me something was wrong with it. He had to totally replace the whole ligament, it was gone. They did have to shave some bone away, something about women having a narrower path for the ligament. He did it with a scope and he let me stay awake so I could watch. It was so cool. It definately helped with the problems I was having. But I did have to go through 4 months of physical therapy. Luckily I was young and healed much faster than they anticipated. I was walking without crutches only a week after surgery instead of the normal 3-4 weeks. I decided to have the spinal block instead of general anesthesia because 1) I really wanted to watch, but more importantly 2) I didn't want them to put me under and not wake up. But it was fine, and all is still well. Cynthia
