    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

I did a week clear liquid, a week full liquids with protein, and now I'm finishing my week of soft foods and proteins. Sweet anything is straight out. I find myself struggling on protein shakes and yogurt.

5 days post op bypass and I ate half a cookie

It means you are five days post-op and ate half a cookie without any physical discomfort or dumping symptoms. If you feel bad about it perhaps you should not do it again, but that's about it. It doesn't say anything about the future, if you dump, or on what. I dump on sugar and fats, often pretty easily. I can eat a cookie or a small piece of candy without dumping. Though, I don't find cookies or candy particularly appealing anymore because on too many occasions one has lead to two or three which then lead to dumping. Good luck, Tek

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Hello! NOVEMBER 9 for me. I was scheduled earlier this year, but illness delayed me for a bit. It was frustrating then, but I'm over it now. As much as I'm going to miss the holiday "norms" I do love this time of year, and have other things to enjoy, so that helps. I'm on a 2 week liquid diet (shakes, broth, jello, popsicles). Day 4 and I feel pretty eh. I made it through a week of the liquid diet last time, so it's not really "new" but I feel more bored with it this time around, if that makes sense. It's all mental games, so I'm trying to remember that and use it as experience for post-op mental games. Super nervous about the actual surgery (never had surgery before), and having somewhat irrational fears about it. But the excitement is also building.

    Three month stall

I had a few stalls. One lasted three weeks and I was worried it was the end of the loss but the loss picked back up and slowly but surely I continue to lose. Just stick to your plan. Oops. Looks like your loss did pick back up. Glad to hear it.
  5. My surgery date is November 12 and i just went to my Pre- Ansesthesia Testing yesterday. I notice when i got weighed that i gained 5 pounds, my surgeon told me that she doesn't want me to gain anymore weight, now I'm stressed out I've been working out and cutting back calories as i was told to do. but instead of loosing I've gained, I don't know if me being on my period for the past month has anything to do with the weight gain either. I just hope this wont postponed my surgery I've worked so hard these past few weeks

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

His surgery twin, im doing ok, each day is different, hormones seem to be all over the place as through fat loss Estrogen surges with fat loss. befire surgery I lost 16lbs and now I’ve lost 16lbs since surgery. I thought it would be faster but grateful all the same as wouldn’t be able to do it without. I had the sleeve done. I had gas pains and shoulder pain and I still suffer with right side stomach when I bend down etc incisions ok though. I find it not to bad getting soft food down. I’ve started a week early with soft foods as soups were going straight through me but I can’t manage more than about 4 tea spoons full. even then it’s a struggle. my main struggle is fluids getting the right amount in so I’ve brought protein juice and it’s definitely helping. how are you doing?

    VLCD

Hello! I'm scheduled for a gastric bypass in the end of November and I've started my pre op diet to lose a few pounds before the surgery. My nutritionist put me on a VLCD with these shakes and soups + some protein and vegetables. Have anyone of you gone through this and have some tips for me? The first few days I was naseous and tired, but now it's kinda ok. What I'm asking is tips and hacks for anyone going through this diet, which is super restrictive and quiet honestly it's gonna be hard to pull this of for the coming 5 weeks. I'm aware that it's also gonna be hard after surgery but I still have the same size stomach so. So do you have any lifesaving tips or recipes or anything? Any October 2021 Surgeries?

Thanks I didn’t know about the BariWise soups. I think I lost weight as my surgeon cleared me to keep taking my Celebrex. II have rheumatoid arthritis and the week before surgery without my Enbrel and Celebrex was painful. If not for my Celebrex I wouldn’t be able to do the daily 2 miles on the treadmill. I know the Celebrex has reduced my stomach inflammation as my restriction got more intense the day I didn’t take it.
  9. Hello! I have KP also, but I'm in the So Cal region. I am unfamiliar with PCOS, but I was referred to the Options program by a PCP I happened to see for something else. Did you go through the 10 week program with the classes and receive the guidebook? If not, you must do it. I was on the fence about surgery but learned SO much and am now convinced it's the right choice for me. While a physician's opinions and recommendations are important, I feel we have to be our own advocate and show up for ourselves. My advice is to dig deep and be honest with yourself, and if you are ready to take this step, I'd seek another opinion. Just because this surgeon isn't encouraging doesn't mean you should call it quits.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

I was on clear liquids for a week and wasn’t hungry. After clear liquids we went straight to soft foods so no liquid phase for me. I’m still not hungry. Savory foods taste better after gastric surgery so focus on broths. Maybe make a red bean soup and blend the peas. Sweet foods are yucky to me too.

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

It’s so interesting to see how different all the post op diets are. I had the surgery two days ago and had clear liquids the day after and now on the liquid diet for two weeks. Yesterday I was starving! Today I am barely eating. Everything tastes super sweet and all my options look “yuck”. How often was everyone eating and drinking at this point?
  12. Boy do I know how you feel...went in for surgery Oct. 25th , 2021 to have the "Sadi" done...I, too, woke up to find it could not be done because of too much scar tissue..the Dr. did remove some of the scar tissue, guess that's good. I knew there was a chance that this may not be able to be a success because of the scar tissue, most of which is from a couple of abdomen surgeries from yrs gone by. I do however still have the sleeve and it hasn't stretched..but just couldn't succeed with it, very little weight loss.. Long story short, they sent me home that night, just as sore nonetheless. This was my last chance at Bariatric anything, already had the Lapland, that was horrible, sick so much...but anyhow thought I would get my 2 cents in....and don't know what I will do now...I just did the 2 week liquid diet....with great anticipation..feeling disappointed in Maine...Donna
  13. Really pretty standard to have some discomfort this close to the surgery. The important thing is to get water in as much as possible by sipping slowly and near constantly. Every day will get better and by the second week the improvement will be very drastic. Hang in there, it gets much better.

    Post VSG Regrets?

Zero regrets. None. In hindsight, I had nothing to be nervous about. Rest for the first few day/week, go easy for a few weeks & you’ll be amazed at how good you feel. Honestly, I’ve had dental work that was more of a struggle. Good luck!
  15. I've lost just over 20 lbs in just over 6 weeks, and I'm very happy about it! The people who lose a ton of weight the first few months are likely much larger than you. You started out at a lower BMI than many who had surgery. I had surgery just about your weight and same height. I don't think you're losing slowly at all!

    Male Tummy Tuck Thread

4 week Post-Op Update Continuing to heal well and the muscle pain is largely gone now. I am back in the office working full time days. Biggest challenge has been getting the compression garments to work with my work clothing (pants like to slide down the slick compression bands). 2 more weeks of compression bands, then I get to transition to regular compression shirts or shorts. Would be interested to hear from the guys what products worked well for them. Below are some pics showing the healing progress. I see the doctor again at 3 months PO, so we should be able to see the final results by then.

    Thoughts about slowish loss

You've lost 31.8% of your excess weight in 7 weeks. 1/3 of your excess weight in less than 2 months. I lost about 13% of my excess weight in my first 2 months. I made it to goal and past goal, and am still at a normal BMI. You've convinced yourself you are not doing well when, in fact, you are doing extraordinarily well. Get off the scale. It's the devil. Continued success and good luck. Tek

    Sharing a huge NSV 😊

In a semi related and semi non scale victory....I am going on vacation this week so I have been packing. I usually try to get as much in my checked luggage as possible, right up to my 50 pounds allowed. I stuffed my bag full and tried to weight in on the scale but could not get it balanced enough. I decided to step on the scale, weight myself then pick up the bag and weigh again to be able to get the bags weight. I was incredibly awe struck when I realized that the combined weight of the bag and me were much less than the weight of just me 2 months ago! Yes, scale, but not really in the traditional sense so I call it a non scale victory.

Had my VSG October 25,2021 ... yikes 😳

I am on liquid Tylenol 🤢 I have been walking a lot still trying to drink baby sips and even drove down the block ( big mistake lol I won't be doing that again for a week or so) . I am hoping it gets a little better. I did make the protein shake and was able to easily take 4-5 sips, 1 every 10 minutes . Today I'll try again . It's been so rough ! Thank you for your kind words !🥰
  21. By 6 weeks @Cindy51, you should be moving on from soft foods & starting to add more dense foods. Think slow cooked meats, minced meats, thick meat soups, flaky fish, eggs, rolled oats, cheese, yoghurt, etc. Start adding more vegetables (well cooked mushy not coarse nor fibrous) now too. I didn’t have a single shake after the first two weeks & I started on purées. My surgeon was happy if I was close to reaching my protein goal those first few weeks. It can be a struggle if you’re not eating much like me at that time: barely 3 meals a day & only about 300 calories in weeks 3 & 4. I’d have a high protein yoghurt drink every second day mid afternoon - it counted as protein & fluids - double win! You may find the calories (carbs & sugar) in the canned fruit too high at this stage @Cindy51. Of course how much you eat will influence what percentage of your daily diet the canned fruit contributes. I wasn’t allowed any fruit for a couple of months then fresh only. Fruit is still the only non protein meal/snack I have. I was adding vegetables by then (non fibrous not coarse). A little steamed cabbage, a small cauliflower floret, a green bean or two. I would add carrots, celery, onions, tomatoes, capsicum to any soups or stews/casseroles I made - nice & mushy. Two things you can rely on while you’re losing: stalls happen & we all lose at our own rate. Celebrate every one of those pounds you’ve lost so far.
  22. Congratulations on your surgery! You must be ready for that next phase of the diet. I know I couldn't wait for my soft food stage after 2 weeks of liquids. I hope you are healing well & that you are able to incorporate more foods soon. Good luck!
  23. I’m a slowish loser (around 21 lbs in 7 weeks since surgery) and even though it is frustrating at times I’m trying to stay positive. I wanted to share my recent thoughts around the subject. No matter whether I lose only a pound in a week it is still one pound gone hopefully forever from my body. I also kind of like the idea of losing slowly as it gives my mind and body time to adjust to the loss, and for some reason, I believe the pounds are more likely to stay off when I shed them slowly. Naturally, it took me decades to pile on the weight so there is no way it will be gone in a few months. And finally despite how quickly or slowly I’m losing I would never regret the surgery because without it I would probably have gained at least as much weight as I have now lost. The weekend is approaching so have a great one!

    Any October 2021 Surgeries?

I totally understand this thread! I’m 4 weeks post op and that first week it was so painful to drink. Like fluids would hit my stomach and my abdomen would seize and scream in pain. I actually ended up getting readmitted a week later because of dehydration. I just couldn’t get enough in and take the pain.
