kinda gotta lie!?!?!?

You know what, I really have to say how impressed I am at everyone's support. Thanku all for taking time to reply to my post.. I really would love to tell my family. But the truth is, its not worth it trying to have to defend urself to an army.. I will no longer be judged for being obese but ill be judged for choosing to have wls.. which I'm sure most of u have seen this happen because a lot of people view as the easy way out(which we all know it isn't) and that " your just gonna gain the weight back" comment. These people try to set u up for failure. They don't like that you are taking control and doing something about it. People get used to us being big and they get threatened by the future skinny us..

    Biggest Loser?

Jim,

I'm a big fan of the show. I've watched each season. Recently they had a "Did they keep the weight off reunion". I'm here to tell you that I don't believe any of them kept off everything that they lost. The guy that won last year put back on 30-40lbs. You could see it in his face. Overall though, they did look good and none of the ones that were on the reunion show went back to their beginning weight. I don't know about the ones that didn't appear...hmmmm???

Shontay

    Freaking out a little bit

I have also been losing at a slower pace. But every pound is a drop in the bucket. Now friendly advice: please weigh and measure yourself only once a week. You will only make yourself mad. Also, since you were on the lower end of the weight scale we (I am including myself) know not to expect to drop those pounds easily. The only thing we can do is work hard and eat right and hope for the best results. But please give the scale a break. 🙂

    R You Hungry?

I lost 100 over a year but first 65 was diet before surgery and last 40 post surgery at 2 1/2 months. I don't know about feeling hungry versus just wanting to eat "normal" junk food at times, I have ice cream once in awhile and still losing weight. I still get cravings for the junk foods and find it tempting now that I am near goal to say "it is only few extra calories."
  6. Lex, it will change for the rest of your life You are feeling less restriction now because your swelling is going down. You are healing from a pretty major surgery. Your insides are super pissed at you right now. so they tried to battle you from within. Your insides have just realized it was a losing battle so they are retreating and unswelling. So you will feel less restriction now. Let your body heal. Show it some mercy. But in a few weeks you will crush their spirits yet again with your first fill!! ( insert evil laugh here) ( p.s. it would look so evil and cool if you were petting a white cat here as well ala any evil genius in a james bond movie). Your body will gather forces again and rebel ( swelling up but really just a futile show of force.). You will be restricted again for a bit but this too shall pass. And than the trick is to find the right amount of fills to produce some serious weight loss. Remember this though. This has now become a life long battle. You will gain a little some days, lose alot others. I often say this, the worst thing we do to our selves is weigh ourselves. It leads to too much worry. Let your body tell you how you are doing. Are your clothes getting a little too loose to be walking around a mall without security stopping you? Are you less out of breathe trying to run away from said security? Let those be your deciding factors for now. And remember- give it time!! you didnt gain weight over night ( although somehow I'm sure I actually did!!!) so you will not lose it all over night ( no matter how many times you write santa, again and again and again and again. I think he read those letters petting his white cat!!) You will do great!!!!
  7. I told my coworkers a tale that is 90% true. Told them I had surgery to remove a portion of my stomach. I didn't say it was for weight loss, I said it was because I had benign polyps forming that were creating scar tissue on one side of my stomach so they removed it. Hence the liquids to mushy to soft to solid food transition. It also explains way I'm eating such small portions. They didn't doubt it for a second because its only a little bit lie and mostly truth. Makes talking about it really easy lol
  8. Gained 2 pounds is this normal!? I am 4 weeks post op. I am wondering if I did something wrong????

    4.20 cc's in my 4 cc Band

Yep. He doesn't seem to be concerned at all. I've read before on other Bandster boards where somepeople have to be filled this high and the band can actually hold more then 4 cc's. I just happen to be the unusual one. I'm sure it is not crimping my stomach as I have no problem eating and the doc would have seen the tightness in the video esophogram. I don't have a big stomach when you look at me so maybe my weight loss was from my innerds and that's why the band needs to be so full. LOL Just a thought!
  10. Hello Everyone, I am a fairly new member to this site. Like many others I have been heavy all my life. I have tried many diets such as Atkins, Weight Watchers, Slim Fast and those weight lose pills. On a couple of occasions I have been able to lose as much as 30 pounds. However, over time I have gained all the weight back. Today I had my consultation with Dr. Abkin in Florham Park NJ. I must say that I instantly likes the surgeon, he was very through at explaining the procedure an answered all of my questions. His office is also absolutely beautiful, clean and can accommodate larger people. His staff were also very friendly and professional. Dr. Abkin is also one of the well known doctors in NJ for bariatric surgery. He has many accolades as well and was one of the first doctors to do lapband surgery in NJ. After my consultation was over, I was so excited. I came home and scheduled my Psych Eval, Nutritional Assessment, Labwork, and will be going to my doctor this Saturday for my medical clearance and necessity letters. I have Horizon BC & BS (NJ Direct). I was also able to schedule a Tentative surgery date for Sept. 24th. I had to schedule it far out because I wanted it to be during a time when I didn't have classes. I also wanted to wait until after the summer because I am scheduled to take a vacation. I am 5'5 and my Pre Op weight is 284. I am hoping to get down to an ideal weight for my height which is between 145-155.

    Weight loss in mushie stage???

Hi Lexi, Your weight will bounce around considerably during the healing phases and post op diet. It's also really important to remember that the 4-6 weeks after surgery are for healing not losing. Right now it's important to follow your doctor's instructions and give your stomach time to recover. Weight loss will come once you're back on solid food and healed up. Best wishes
  12. Don't know what you guys are talking about but I'd like details Im gaining here. What's a reset or rebot Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App

NSV - need to get back on track

If we were good at diets........ If you like eating and your not putting on weight if you added exercise I bet you would lose heaps.
  14. So I am really PO'd right now and need to vent! I just got a bill from the dr that gave me my 2nd fill for $274.32! When I called to set up an appointment I asked how much I would be charged. Now, just to be clear I called more than once to make sure I was getting the real price and not just because I was banded out of state. They told me the fill was $150. And there was a new patient fee of 100 (which they didn't ask for then, but i figured they would bill me). So I was looking at about $250 total right? Apparently they lied every time I called because now on top of the $150 ALREADY paid, they want the 274.32. If I knew they were charging $425 I would have gone back to Dr K and stayed overnight!!! AND I would have had one painless poke instead of the 5 minutes of digging that Dr.Cottam did!! Please tell me it's not just me!!
  15. I lost pretty quick the first 2 weeks, then hit a wall. So, I killed my scale. It is not my friend, it's my enemy. There's no reason for me to fret each day I step on the scale and get pissed off and want to kick my dog. So, in light of resetting everything, my emotions and attitude, I'm not going to let that piece of glass and plastic decide how I feel today. I started weighing only once a week, sometimes not even that. I honestly don't care anymore about weighing. I do what I'm supposed to. I get my calories in, my Protein in, Vitamins, etc and I bust my ass in the gym and during workouts. I know I'm getting healthier, I don't need a number on the scale to tell me that. Congrats on the weight loss and the beginning of your new life. It's exciting!

    Sleeve Vs Rny

Thanks! I was wondering because most weight gain stories I've heard are those who have had the RNY. Glad I got the sleeve!
  17. Rootman

Can I Opt For A Bigger Sleeve?

In actuality I don't think that there is a whole lot of difference and the amount removed has more to do with the shape of the stomach rather than the size of the bougie. Also, if you get TOO big a sleeve then the old nemesis hunger will play a larger part in your diet than it would with a smaller one. You could always eat more often with a smaller sleeve but having to diet severely and put up with hunger may sabotage your weight loss. I also would not worry about eating. After a year, year and a half you can eat just about anything you want and it is quite easy for most to simply NOT eat as much and maintain the weight level. The LAST thing you want to do is lose a bunch and then gain a lot back, that would be discouraging and detrimental to your health. I'd go with what the doc recommends.
  18. This will happen. ALOT. You have to remember this, your body is an amazing machine that has the ability to adapt and change to meet its needs. We are like terminators ( which i think is totally cool cause i want to be bad ass like arnold in leather pants.... ummm... i digress). Anyway, our bodies adapt to changes we make. So after a while your body will realize you are eating less, and it will hold on to more of what you put in. Thus causing a weight loss stall. But over time you will start to lose again. Food choice is a productive thing. But eat the same thing every day and your body will realize it and be ready for it. Change it up a bit. Have fun (in moderation) and your body will burn through the fat much like the insides of my thighs burn through jeans!!! Best of luck!!!
  19. thanks- btw i'm NOT doing the 2 day as planned, I'm going to do the 5 day from kaye bailey. Kaye offers some great supportive videos on youtube AND her plan is much more similar to the post op phases (allows more eating of actual foods, 2 day then BOT plan advocates shakes all day and only one meal at night for dinner). hopefully this is Do-able because my eating is crazy. I work nights and afternoons (work 4 shifts a week and i have variable start and finish times- this is a nursing job but is flexible to allow me to finish NP school) and i find myself eating during the day THEN eating during the night to help me stay awake. I have to get out of this cycle, and I have about 24 months left in this job before i'm done with school. I really love the job so I don't want to go looking for a new one during the hardest part of my schooling. but, gaining weight all through these 24 months isn't an option...
  20. well that says it all! I'm starting a reset tomorrow because I'm once again off track. It just seems so easy for me to derail these days. I'm working SUCH a terrible schedule right now and my sleep is totally disordered. I find myself eating around the clock some days just to stay awake at work, and am sleeping terribly because of the weight gain. I thought I was getting back on track pretty well but i'm rolling down the hill once again! Going to just get a tight grasp on my entire situation before I find myself back at my staring weight!!! Wish me luck- BTW i'm doing the 2 day reset and then the BOT scenario from Bariatric Eating.

Will I need a Tummy Tuck?

It just depends...everyone is different. A lot of factors go into it: How long you have been heavy, how fast you gained the weight, how much weight you loose, how fast you loose it, etc..

    Lap Band vs VSG

GO WITH VSG. I'm a college student, so I'm all about convenience, and the lap band fills/unfills/underfills/overfills have been HORRIBLE. I actually just called my doctor yesterday and I'm going to get a revision to the VSG. With the lap band, I was doing well in the beginning, but 6 months out, I started gaining weight again. I have PCOS, and that's what happens with PCOS, but after WLS it shouldn't happen at all. I eat correctly and exercise - I'm doing p90x right now - and since the band doesn't allow me to eat some things, I'm not getting enough nutrition because I can't get a lot of food THROUGH the band, my body is rebelling and I'm gaining weight again. Please save yourself the trouble and money and go with the VSG.

Fills - FInding the Port & Pain?

I wish mine were that easy - every fill I get is worse. Yesterday I had my 7th fill and the worst. The Dr. just couldn't find the center of the port. I am sure mine must be tilted. I had 3 shots of novacane?? and It took LOTS of probing and 3 times before he got it. Right, normally it doesn't hurt ---just a pressure, but the last 2 times it has been painful! I finally do feel restriction now so hope I won't need another fill for awhile! I have 2.5cc in a 4 cc band. I am loosing real slow and of course we all know that it has nothing to do with me and what I am eating and drinking ---but I am not gaining and it is slow but sure!
  24. Counting down the days until surgery. I am excited and nervous all at the same time. I have been ready to start my weight loss journey for quite some time and am ecstatic that I've only 4 more days to go! Woohoo!
